great advice! talks are no longer at 3pm but the owner is happy to give great advice to anyone who stops by
Bill was amazing! Gave us a great briefing for the O circuit, we just stopped by and he was so helpful. Great insights and tips on how to approach this hike. If you ever need equipment for the hike with a side of great advice, come here! He is genuine just nice and wants to help with no pressure to buy or rent anything, such a nice experience.
One of the coolest places we stayed at in South America.
Bill and his friends made it an absolute pleasure to stay. By far the best hostel I have used in Patagonia. The amenities are always clean and the warm welcoming common areas are an amazing place to spend your days planning your trip. The staff are extraordinarily knowledgeable and helpful.
Excellent place, close to the center, clean bathrooms and bedrooms, fully equipped clean kitchen, super helpful and nice staff. Also organizing a very helpful free 3 pm daily briefing for the Trekking in the National Park. Plus, its one of the best places to rent gear for the hike in the whole town.Full recommendation!
I didnt stay here but just wanted to add an updated review to their 3pm TdP orientation talk, they have now moved the talk to their new gear shop called Day Zero which is just another 5 minutes up the road. The talk itself is quite basic and brief, but the staff are more than happy to answer more specific questions.
I did not actually stay the night here, but the 3 oclock talk is VERY useful if you are planning on hiking in Torres del Paine. The talk gives an overview of the park, the trail, and everything you can expect and will need for your trek. They also have a box of free stuff left behind by previous hikers such as half full fuel canisters, plastic bags, etc. They also have a bunch of gear available for rental if you need. My friend and I rented some hiking poles and had no problem with them at all. The staff is very friendly and willing to answer any individual questions you may have and give recommendations. Definitely worth stopping by even if you arent staying!
Great place and awesome staff really helpful in everything and the 3 oclock talk is really helpful
Love, loved the place . Bill, the owner is extremely helpful.,and very knowledgeable. Homemade bread and jam ,delish. Friendly workers. Clean room, hot showers.
Incredibly friendly, helpful, and knowledgeable staff regarded hiking Torres del Paine, with quality gear available at very reasonable prices. We came in looking to rent additional gear, but were dissuaded by the staff, and the recommendation that we would not need it turned out to be accurate.
Cool rental shop/hostel that offers an excellent daily talk on hiking the W/Q Circuits in Torres Del Paine. The staff all seem to be genuine enthusiasts and are great resources for local outdoor info.
Amazing 3 oclock talk on all info Patagonia by Rustin.
Love the family feel and helpful staff. Rooms are comfortable and clean, and the showers are hot in shared bathrooms. Fun to meet other travelers here too! Walking distance to the bus station (10-15 minand a great location overall.
Staff and owner are great people. Very clean, ton of information for the W or O treks and right next door to a cool pub. Very cozy and best hostel in Puerto Natales.
If you plan on hiking in Torres Del Paine, you should absolutely go their free daily info session at 3pm. I learned a lot during this talk, and I have had plenty of experience backpacking in other regions, but this talk informed me about the specifics of Torres Del Paine and what to be prepared for. You can also rent your gear from them right after the talk. This is also a great way to meet people who will be on the trail at the same time as you and may want to split some supplies (plastic bags, boxes of oatmeal).
Cannot say enough good things about this hostel. Their staff are all amazingly friendly, helpful, kind people. Bill, the owner, is a delight to see every morning as he served a delicious breakfast of homemade bread (made dailyand omelettes (cereal, a variety of jams, yogurt, and juice are all available). The atmosphere around the place is great—the hostel feels cozy and welcoming. I made many friends during my stay. Everything is well cleaned and maintained, beds are nice, and the hot water and WiFi work super well.
I chose this place based on their supposed knowledge of and experience with the Torres del Paine as we were interested in doing the W trekking tour. Basically they ruined our experience by their incapacity to provide us with good and correct information. The owner advised us to get at least one reservation and to just go to Torres, which we did. Eventually at the park we did the Chileno tour and we tried going to another camping site. We were sent back because we did not have any other reservations. As we had limited time, we were not able to do any other tours on the Torres. We did not sleep as there was a concert right next to the place. We were warned, however we accepted given they would provide us with info on doing the Torres. In addition, the top bunk bed is so high, it almost reaches the ceiling, which is not practical at all. This place is also relatively more expensive than other hostels. I would recommend other hostels that can inform you better as the main raison of staying in Puerto Natales is the Torres del Paine.
Very nice guys, we went to their information session and they suggested us tons of ideas according to our plan, thanks !
fantastic hostel with friendly staff! delicious breakfast.amazing collection of old VHS movies.enjoyed our time there.
We stayed there for one night in a 4 bed dorms room. The room was clean and tidy. A really nice and cozy place with a great breakfast included in the price. Bill, the owner of the hostel, was very nice and helpful.
Awesome free informative infosession! Super friendly crew and clearly knowledgeable about the area and the tracks!
Met a wonderful and helpful gentleman named Bill there who is in charge. We arrived and pretty much needing directions for touring the area. He pointed us in the right direction with regards to changing money and even offered to change it personally if the shops were closed. 2 days later, I showed up asking for suggestions to spend the bonus day in the city. There were a bunch of hikers sitting around having coffee when I went in and it appeared to be a family like atmosphere. Next time we go to Puerto Natales and actually muster up the courage to hike, we will ask erratic rock and Bill to help us.
We did the 5-days W trekking; perfect organisation by Koen; the guide (Anitaand the porters (Juan & Mauroare lovely, helpful and prepared for everything. Awesome 5 days! The hostel is cozy, clean and well organized, and Bill cooks an excellent omelette for breakfast! Totally recommended!!
Their 3 oclock session is not to be missed. They happily tell you everything you need to know about Torres del Paine AND give you coffee/tea.
Amazing place, amazing people. Great stop for gringos and will help you get everything set up for Torres del Paine.
Nice staff, good atmosphere, variety of beers and delicious food!
Great people who offer amazing and free information regarding Torres del Paine.
Get a Torres del Paine map here, the version they sell is the best map I found so far. I saw it hanging on the wall at Camp Dickson and they sell it cheaper here than at Hotel Grey. They also open late if you need fuel canister.
Great vibe, clean place, welcoming... They got the hostel thing down pat. Great breakfast will set you up for the bus to Paine Del Torres.
Superb place to stay, helpful, friendly great staff. Really good breakfast, comfy beds!
Very helpful with the free orientation for the Torres Del Paine. Highly recommend.
Dropped in last-minute to check availability for the night after getting back from Torres del Paine. The manager was friendly, and offered 3 beds, but in separate rooms for 16000CLP each - a bit steep for bunk beds, so we went to Hostal la Base instead & got a private room for 50000CLP total; 2000CLP more for better sleep. Were I traveling solo, Id definitely consider Erratic Rock otherwise. Seems like a nice hostel.
Tiny rooms with very thin walls. Good community vibe but dont expect a good nights sleep with the typical hostel ins and outs plus early buses.
Good shop that has solid gear by appearances and offers great info for Torres del Paine hikers but prices are a bit higher than other, less publicised rental shops in town.
Comfortable common-spaces, clean-rooms, shared-bathrooms, great food and atmosphere at the bar next door. Unfortunately the wifi barely works and while some of the staff are very cool others are just plain rude.
Great renting services. We borrowed tent and mats for 8 days. The staff were very friendly and helpful.
A home away from home! Its so strange to find an oasis of lovely Americans in South America but thats what Erratic Rock is. The breakfast is delicious, the wifi is fast, the beds are comfy the three oclock talk is informative. Would definitely recommend to anyone coming to Puerto Natales.
Great place for TDP information. You have to go to the 3PM talk. Please give the Dutch guy giving the lecture a nice tip!
The staff here are fantastic. The free 3pm talk for anyone trekking in Torres del Paine is a must. Rented all our trekking gear here, quality was good and staff helped us with everything we needed.
They provide very useful talk for the treks, do attend it. They do hire out good quality gear as well and I love the idea of providing means for people to leave stuff for others to use after the end of their trekking
Free information. Good quality information. Welcoming and trusting staff. Excellent prices. Free VHS hire. Gear hire. All round pleasant stay. We switched hostels purely because we felt these guys went above and beyond and really enjoyed what they did. Highly recommended.
Very good rental service. The presentation about walking was also very nice and useful. Too bad we couldnt get a drink the other day...
Love this place, friendly, supportive of local community and green initiatives. The breakfast is fantastic, the 3 oclock at Base Camp really useful, tips and friends. You can also rent stuff there at very convenient prices. The owners are the best of all. Thank you for everything guys.
The place to visit before your Torres Del Paine tracking. Keep in mind that their info talk is how they preferably do the track.Place is a little to noisy for a good dinner but nice to drink a beer.
At 3pm, they offer an incredibly informational talk about the W trek for Torres del Paine. Oh, and its free!
We stayed at Erractic Rock 2, a few blocks up the road, and the hosts there were excellent. The breakfast was great, the bed was comfy (especially after travelling for 24 hours), and the shower felt amazing. The Torres del Paine talk at Erratic Rock is invaluable and not to be missed.
This review is for Base Camp, which is right next door to the hostel and is where you can rent gear. They also sell backpacking meals in bags. The staff are very friendly and helpful, fluent in English and Spanish (a lot of them are Americans). It can take a while (45 minsto check in or check out gear when they are busy (leave yourself enough time to return gear before you catch a bus or something). There is an adjoining cafe where they sell decent thin-crust pizza, tacos, and beer. Also seems like a good spot to meet other backpackers.
The best hostel I stayed in Patagonia. The great and helpful staff that speak English. The location in the center. The amazing breakfast includes 2 yogurts, cerial, and eggs made by the host according to your request. The big comfortable beds (stayed both in double room and dorms, the great atmosphere, the TV in the living room with Netflix and VCR with hundreds of films. The sweet cat that you can pet, the big and equipped kitchen that you can cook until 23:00. All the rooms, kitchen and bathrooms were cleaned each morning by the cleaning lady. I really recommend this hostel.
If you are going to trek in Torres del Paine national park, pass by the shop at 3pm they have a great free talk where they explain the different routes - very informative. You can also rent camping gear there.
Even if you dont stay here go for the hike discussion, even if youre an expert experienced hiker its informative. Im a guide elsewhere and I found some bits useful.
