eightyeight Cafe in Tauranga

Its starting to become a habit coming here after walking around the Mt. Coffee is always hot and to my liking.

You just cant beat this breakie, had the 88 breakfast. A perfect ensemble of just what you need to start the day. Service was great and the cappuccino was perfect. Thanks for accommodating me by swopping out the shrooms for bacon. Best breakie Ive had so far in NZ!

Excellent brunch, great value and attractive presentation. Even though they were very busy, service was good and time estimates accurate.

Food and drinks pretty poor but the most disappointing thing was the service. Tables were all dirty and covered with food, no social distancing and as I am currently on crutches there was no consideration whatsoever. They wouldn’t even try to give me space to get past so I was having to try and manoeuvre around them. Will not be returning or recommending.

1200 noon 22/01/2022 Had been looking forward to eating here as it was recommended. However. The place was a little bit of a shambles. Almost didnt buy a drink because i couldnt see a fridge. When we asked about the menu and taking a seat. We were rudely spoken to as if we should have known the place already...We were at the counter about to order. The man who served us had hands on the counter and head facing in another direction as if we were taking his precious time. (We were just confused as the system of the place didnt really flow). As we were ordering, the impatience of the man was very obvious and we were close to walking out. We went to grab cutlery. And 3 out of 10 tins were dirty.Quite disappointed about the service. And the food was ok

My 13yo son, who is coeliac, went up to the counter and asked if the iced chocolate is gluten-free. The two girls behind the counter laughed at him and ridiculed him for asking - asking him if he was "feeling funky" - AND did not check to see if it was, saying were pretty sure chocolate is fine. We will not be back.

Great food and good coffee can be had here. However when visiting between Christmas and New Year the place was packed, and social distancing was completely being ignored. It didnt feel safe so I left.

There was no one at the door informing of table availability and no room to move inside, so the only way we could find out if we could be served was to line up and take a gamble. 20 minutes later we get to the front and there still isn’t a single staff member who can tell us if we can have a table. Might I add that was 20 minutes squashed in with other patrons like sardines, without our vaccine pass being scanned. Fortuitously someone left at that moment and we were able to order. Our woes didn’t end there though as we were told there was 45 minute wait on all food, including cabinet food??? I just wanted a sausage roll heated up, I even offered to eat it cold. Feel really bad for the staff because there’s clearly no management presence. The owners need to either hire more staff or have the foresight to know their capacity and when to turn people away. In one finds twist of the knife, the flat white I ended up ordering was burned and had more foam than was building at the corners of my mouth after such an atrocious experience.

Eightyeight Cafe is really worth a visit, great food and drink options for breakfast, lunch or a quick bite. Well worth hunting out and giving it a try, highly recommended.

Good food. Something for vegetarian and vegan as well as for meat eaters. Good sized meals so bring a good appetite. Very busy. Good service.

Absolutely delicious. Only thing was I ordered the pancakes that were meant to come with poached and pureed apples - which it didnt, no mention. When I asked I was told theyd run out. I would expect this to be mentioned. Wouldnt be happy to have ordered eggs bene and it just arrive with no eggs... But was offered more fruit once I asked. Passion fruit mascapone was actually just plain mascapone as well.But even with that meals were decent sized and yum.

What an amazing array of homemade baked goods! I chose the Hummingbird Cake - which was a HUGE cake and meant that the slices were also huge! Cream cheese icing covered in large coconut shreds garnished a lovely moist cake...which went so well with 2 x long blacks, also delicious! (Please dont tell anyone that this was my breakfast!😉

I ordered a Grilled chicken burger, it took over 30 minutes to get to my table after I asked how long it would be I came out promptly (I think they forgot to make it.. It came out with a very burnt bun and chicken, absolutely no flavour, do not recommend the burger however they have plenty of other nice tasting food

GF and vegan raw slices. But best of all good sweet treats. Lemon meringue slice, sweet and savoury muffins the list goes on. Great coffee and a nice courtyard out back.

Way too busy, waited 20min in queue to order a coffee then told 15min wait for a coffee. 35min for a $4 coffee is ridiculous. Wont go back to try the food in the future, better to go to a different cafe in mount maunganui.

The staff friendly and the snacks were outstanding. The chicken wraps were full of tender moist chicken. The carrot cake was something to dye for. I dont know if they do their own baking but it was very good.

It s great to go have breakfast and lunch. They have yummy pastries cakes sandwiches and coffees and more. It s often busy. I recommend to go there. The location is really good as well not far from Mt mounghanui and the beach.

Havent visited for a while and nice to see that the food is still good. Unfortunately the same cant be said for the cleanliness....its pretty revolting to sit down at a table with bird poo all over it, and when I asked a staff member if he could wipe the table down, he walked off and didnt return. You really need to get the bird situation sorted.

Absolutely our favorite cafe in the Mt. Nice staff, reasonable pricing, good coffee and delicious food. The Blueberry caramel slabs were the best thing EVER!! 10/10 would recommend 👍

Arrived around 11am, very busy! We were wondering why there were so many tables with plates that were left half full.. 30min wait for our food, baby cockroach on the highchair, considering how full and busy this place always is maybe a bigger location would be better? So jam packed inside could feel the next people touching u while waiting in line and so close to the people trying to enjoy their meals. The food was average.

Coffee was really nice! And the food too! A lot of delicious vegetarian options, nice place, beautiful garden with plants

This is my favorite cafe, the food is great, staff are awesome and you get alot on your plate for a very reasonable price ! Highly recommend this place!

The food here is really good, the portions are really big. If you going there, I recommend getting the French toast,ypu wont regret.

After a diabolical customer service experience at Sidetrack Cafe near the mount we were recommended this place for breakfast and thank God because this was divine. The staff are wonderful the service perfect. We had a chat with the lovely Ann the baker at the cafe who nearly had us in tears. A serendipitous encounter which brightened up my morning, erased bad experiance and loved meeting people. Thats before I bit into the bacon cream cheese with cranberry sauce brioche that is phenomenal. If you imagine taste of heaven this is it. What are you waiting for....GO!

Good quality food from the kitchen. Loads of healthy options and decadent treats. Friendly staff and a garden bar at the back

Everyone loved the brunch and desserts so much that we had to come back again the next morning before leaving Tauranga. Really beautifully presented (and definitely instagram worthy). A really wide range of pantry desserts to choose from but itll be good to go early as they really are snatched up fast! Drinks are amazing too, especially the hot chocolate and the smoothies.

Great coffees and gourmet food, with a lovely asthetically pleasing atmosphere. Has a very good vibe about it.

A gem that is adored by the locals and tourists altogether! We come here everytime we are down at the Mount and absolutely love spending our morning here! Coffee is great but moreover, there baked goods over the counter is phenomenal! Try their date scone and life will not be the same! Super friendly service and great atmosphere!

Love this place, went every morning for breakfast. Food is super fresh including the fruit. Superb coffee.

A world class gastronomical experience. Been to Cafe 88 several times when we visit Mount Maunganui. My favourite for breakfast is the Granola. Lolly cake for morning tea. Lunch is the Paleo chicken salad. This cafe is out of this world and the best in New Zealand.We cant wait to be back.

I love everything in this cozy place. My fav in The Mount.Great juices, coffee and food. Smash avo and the salmon are my fav.Outside seating, I dores and a outdoor patio inside. It’s a small place but with lots of character.I would only improve the WiFi. That works inside but not in the outdoor patio.

Coconut brioche French toast was off the scale 👍 Great service too from very friendly staff. Nice decor, laid back beach vibes.

Good range of food/coffee on offer and plenty of rear seating. Looks small from the outside. For better coffee, Luca offer Supreme (highly regarded as one of the best in NZ, from the coffee capital).

Monster carrot cake great vegan options too. Great coffee. Another good cafe at the Mount. Try their hot chocolate, very clever and so decadent.

I love Eightyeight Cafe! Very nice and friendly staff and cakes are absolutely yummy. We tried many of them and we were always satisfied. Especially carrot cake is the best one I ever tried before. Coffee is strong and full of taste. We will definitely come back. Highly recommended!!

Ive been here twice and both times it was amazing. The selection and quality of the baked goods here is unreal. Absolutely loved the stuffed scone and caramel slice I had. The coffee was also amazing. Good service, lovely location, looking forward to my next visit!

🌱 vegan friendly - not zero waste!Healthy, gf and vegan options. Would love to see a better and more sustainable solution to the food drying out - instead of covering it in loads of single use plastic.

Superb cafe. Food is extremely well presented and tastes as good as it looks. Very good coffee. Large selection of menu items, as well as cabinet food. There is no table service but ordering at the counter is fast and efficient. Im sure this would be a strong contender for best cafe at the mount.

Went again today for lunch and it was as awesome as our first time when we went for breakfast last week. I really like that they have options for all tastes. Mix of flavors was so rich and amazing. Loved it!!

I can recommend this establishment, they have Gravity Coffee, a beautiful roast. The latte is creamy, strong and has that delicous burnt flavour, usually I have two glasses when I go in. Comfortable and relaxing inside, tables are cleaned regularily. Great Baristas, have a wide selection of snacks and freshly cooked food. The staff are friendly, efficient and look after you well. As your local google guide I can recommend, try this cafe and enjoy, it is my port of call when over at the Mount.

Portion was really big and the taste was brilliant too.Coffee was great too.Quite busy and vibrant. :)

Awesome food. Great presentation. Food cam out quick and lovely service. Would def recommend and come again. Nice warm wee eating garden out that back.

An excellent breakfast spot in the Mt. Very busy on a Saturday morning, but all places this great are, and its well worth the wait.

#6 here now as reviewing.. staff seemed stressed at 10am.. Management : guy on till prob shouldnt be posted at point of sale at busy time as seemed not ready for it.. person on coffee machine seemed unhappy and frustrated.. person who delivered my order was only one with smile and offered basic service.. otherwise food was good coffee was ok.
