Well-known zoo featuring nearly 2,000 animals, including giant pandas & others that are endangered.
A zoo far superior to any I have ever been to. Animals every step of the way! Easy, shaded walk! Clear signs for animals, bathrooms, exits, attractions. Highlights are the panda, the black panther, and the assortment of primates. Highly recommended for a day trip! Loved every second of it! Also, it is TOTALLY free.
Being inside of a giant park, I honestly didnt expect much. But there ended up being a good variety vot animals including some more rare ones such as bison, moose, and a panda bear.
Great variety of species. Enclosure partly not species-appropriate. Totally overcrowded on weekends. Admission free.
We visited in the week after going to the castle nearby and were surprised that we didn’t need to pay any admission and entrance appears to be freeWhilst there you can pay extra for things like pictures with animals or special areas/experiences like the snakes I think - but there was enough to see just walking around what is a large, well kept site. Toilets are 6 pesos if you need to use them and there is a food court which has a range of food which is convenient and average priced for onsite facilities. There are sections like safari, aviary, jungle with different types on animals - we particularly liked the hippos and giraffesThe zoo does get really busy after the morning - we did go at a weekend though and went earlier leaving when it got busier as it’s then harder to see the animals and wasn’t as pleasant. So go earlier if able
The saddest zoo I have ever visited. I would have gladly paid an entrance fee if this resulted in better habitats for the animals. I would not recommend going here.
For free admission we thought the zoo was great. Many of the animals were very active. We were sad that the axolotl exhibit was closed though.
Family friendly and very amazing animals. The entrance is free. You can also rent a push car for your infants for 80-120 pesos
Great place to visit with family
Beautiful, beautiful zoo! Insane to think that this place charges no entry fee. It is the best zoo I’ve ever been to. As others have stated, when you first get to the entry there is an announcer and signs stating you have to check certain baggage, this isn’t true. You can kindly ignore and make your way into the zoo. While the zoo itself is FREE, there are a few extras that the zoo offers for $70-$130 pesos to look closer at certain types of animals (insects, butterflies, and snakes). We skipped it & still had a phenomenal time. So many different and lively animals! They really put on a show. The zoo has food for purchase (Domino’s, burger joint, traditional Mexican food, ice cream, snacks etchowever, since you are allowed to bring bags I’m sure bringing food in wouldn’t be a problem, as our bags were not checked. The zoo is in the midst of beautiful Chapultepec park grounds and there is also PLENTY to do upon exiting the zoo itself, including but not limited to an awesome playground, a carousel, etc. Bring spending money & WAIT to buy as there are vendors waiting with beautiful & fun items, all reasonably priced! You could easily spend a whole day there - we did!
Its free, its big, and its fun. But its in need of some maintenance and upgrading. It is the same as the last time I visited, almost 20 years ago. Now its free, so no reason to not go.
This zoo was so disappointing. They don’t have all the animals on display. And they don’t take good care of their animals. The animals cages were full of trash.
Very good zoo with lots of animals. They seem to be well taken care of. I give 4 stars because a few of the enclosures were empty. You can go in for free.
I cant believe this zoo was free it was so clean great animals a peacefulness comes to you while your there if in mexico its a must
Such a great free zoo!! So many animals and beautiful exhibits. Highly recommend making a visit.
The animals didnt really come out so there wasnt much too see. It was still fun in the end though.
Always great to come back!!
Free zoo! Clean, lots of animals. Ive never animals so active in any other zoo. Lots of good food options at reasonable prices. Go before 1pm on weekends since it got very crowded after that. Some of the enclosures seemed a bit small but overall they seemed good.
This has the POTENTIAL to be a world-class zoo... Great location, good size, nice exhibit structures, free admission. But sadly, it needs help. Many (actually mostexhibits have no animals and very few staff. Mexico could make this zoo incredible with some attention and funds, even if it means charging a reasonable entrance fee for adults or foreigners.
Awesome place to walk around. The animals are out and about. There’s so much to see because this zoo is huge. Free admission. Connected to Chapultepec Park. You get to see the Panda from China which was pretty cool. There’s also other exhibits that cost extra like to see the butterflies or the snakes. Highly recommend this place if you have kids, for a casual date, or just have fun with family.
Nice park, many interesting animals… unfortunately very small cages for animals and many of theme empty. No tickets, only for few entrances… in my personal opinion, not worth…
Excellent experience for everyone. Both those of us we live nearby as well as those who don’t. You get to see a wide variety of animals and for FREE. The park-meters are used to share money (coinsto support the animals; but it would be great if they got emptied every day.
I came from North Carolina to see a capybara, unfortunately that habit was closed for renovations 😔, but I did see my favorite of them all. A whole habitat of monkeys ☺️. I will be back.
Free admission for all, minus a 20 peso charge to check your bag before you enter. There are some amazing animals here, giant pandas, giraffes, lions etc etc. It should have been really exciting however for the most part I just felt sad. The enclosures were in no way big enough for the type of amount of animals they had in there. the enclosures were also sparsely decorated, without much if any enrichment objects.I think it’s great for people to be able to see and learn about so many amazing animals for free. Personally, I would have preferred to pay a little (a foreigner only fee?and have the living conditions of the animals be better. Would be hard to redesign the entire zoo though.
Great zoo to visit, lots of animals and situated in one of the most beautiful parks in the city. The land was granted to the city and there are many things to see around the area. There is also a place to leave bags if you don’t want to carry them for $20 pesos, and a rental for cute themed kid strollers. The only draw back is the exit to the zoo is quiet a distance from where you dropped your bags.
One of the best zoo I have been to. Lots of animals and very clean. Im very surprised at how well it was maintained considering it is free admission. I hope more people would donate when they visit to help out. Every little bit from each visitor will go a long way. This is not a revenue generating zoo. Thank you very much.
Great variety of animals, it can get very crowded on Sunday. We saw giant panda, animals are very well taken care of and are in lots of action. There is no admission. We did counterclockwise tour and beat the crowd. Lots of street vendors outside and provide great selection of snacks and toys. Had lots of fun.
Nice free zoo, its really huge with a variety of animals. Although Im not a big fan of zoos, my son enjoyed seeing it all. Wear comfortable shoes and be prepared to get lots of walking in. We had lunch at 1 of the cafes in the zoo along the way. The pay bathrooms that you cant get a stroller into are my main complaint. There should be family restrooms that you can pay & roll into bc if youre alone theres no one to leave stroller with to go through bathroom turnstiles. I asked to use the handicap restroom so I could bring my son in with me but the lady said no. I can spend a whole day at Bosque Chapultepec but I need to be able to use the restroom and take my 2 yo with me without leaving stroller outside unattended. Youll see alot of moms just change kids diapers on a bench due to this. We went on a Friday and it wasnt overcrowded.
It is quite frustrating, the place is in decline and the animals are neglected, too many vendors, street clowns and the whole area feels insecure, everything in the place is extremely expensive$$$$ The users are quite unpleasant, absolutely ordinary people and have a mixture with deluded foreigners. Everything looks terrible to show off or recommend goingThe exhibition of Insecta was disregarded with so much informal trade and current nefarious users Free synonym of nasty people So 😭
Its to good to be true!!Is pretty, is awesome, there are many different animals. Its a good place to know more about animals!
Nice and clean, be ready to walk the mile. Dont miss the beautiful Panda Bears exhibition.
This place is full of beautiful animals that you can see. I hundred percent recommend coming here. We got to see pandas, giraffe and many more. There were many people and we had a wonderful experience.
Everybody loves free admission.Seriously, its great when public places are freely accessible for everyone. The zoo is really big and features a wide range of animals of all kinds.Unfortunately though, the compounds were anything but nice. Very dry or even concrete grounds and many of the animals were even suffering skin issues. It seems the animals do not get the best attention and are not necessarily held in a suitable environment.Snow leopards & penguins may not like 30°C as much as the giraffes or antelopes...Even the camels appeared in a poor condition.Weirdly, about a third of all compounds were simply empty: no lions, no tigers, not even goats... Hope they were cared for in the meantime.Overall its a nice zoo to visit that even tries to advocate about ocean pollution, but if you visit, be aware that not even a panda can disguise the debatable conditions.Maybe we cann all speak more about ideal surroundings for the animals who call this planet home, just like we do!
Our intent was to go to the anthropology museum on a Sunday but we ended up being to the this zoo as the museum was closed. Had a good time strolling around and check out the gigantic zoo. Looks like there are all sorts of animals and many breeds in them too. Very few of the enclosures are closed, we got to glimpse most of them. Monkeys were the most active one’s, some of them have even put up a show attracting a lot of crowd with their acts. Pandas were lazing, may be it’s time around lunch and all of them are sleeping. Missed checking out the giraffes.Be prepared to walk a lot as the zoo is super huge. Don’t forget to get water bottles. Admission is free for most part of it. Only to watch the butterfly and insect enclosures, we have to pay. Also, to use the restrooms. Generally maintained clean, most of the animals looked healthy. Must visit if you’re in the city.
The biggest attraction is the panda. Thats why its a good idea to choose a tour early in the morning, when hes not resting after eating :The walk in the zoo is pleasant and sometimes you will see some animals (bear, monkeys, jaguars, tiger etc).
the zoo is now open!!!!! its free, well-designed, and you get to see some amazing stuff 💛make sure to check out the rest of the forest when you go, too!
They had a lot of different animal species, spread across a wide area in the Chapultepec Park. However, most of the animals looked really depressed and not very well cared for. So it was a little bit sad to see them like that. I hope they improve their conditions in the near future.
I’m so glad we had the chance to visit this zoo during our trip to Mexico City. It’s a beautiful zoo!! Free Admission but dont forget to bring pesos for the use of the restroom. 😄 We could have watched the little baby giraffes for hours!
Spent about 3 hours wandering around the zoo. Some enclosures were a little sadder than others but over all they seemed pretty happy. Not a lot of fences to block your view. The monkeys all sat against the glass which made it nice and easy to see them. A lot of tigers!
Not as bad as many reviewers have reported. I do believe the experience by visitors could be better if only the staff would clearly mark that a certain exhibit is closed permanently or temporarily. For instance, is there ever a "Grande Panda" at this zoo? There were signs but no panda. Was it hiding :So, basically you have no clue, so you stand there and wait for an animal to come out if hiding or wonder if theres even one there. That was my only problem. And yes, the camels look tired but Ive been to many countries where camels are native creatures and they dont look any better there either. But my overall experience is 4 stars, especially for no entry charge. But, I feel everyone should donate something which they have a lockbox at each exhibit.
The Chapultepec zoo is one of the most beautiful I have ever seen. There is free entry to all. Some animals are only placed in display specific days and hours. The zoo has been facing a hard time with economic issues therefore it has been deteriorating its overall quality. People love the Bengal tigers and the capuchin monkeys.
This park is 100% FREEEEEEEE! YOU DONT NEED TO PAY ANYTHING TO GET IN. This place is very large with lots of things to do. You can go check out the animal exhibit that is completely free however backpacks and food is not allowed inside the animal park. There is also a castle you can check out very famous with lots of history and a lake with little pedal boats you can rent for cheap. Come see this beautiful place that is family friendly and has lots of things to do and see and of course, EAT.
Such an amazing experience! The zoo is giant and is free to everyone, it has so many animals!! Theres many people selling food, toys, and souvenirs in the park! If youre visiting Mexico City I highly recommend coming to Chapultepec park and zoo, if you can I would recommend coming between Mon-Fri because it gets packed on the weekend...
Fantastic!!!! This zoo is very big and the best, its for FREE!!!, I have visited some zoos, included the one in London and it has far more species of animals than any other I have been too, the animals are in great condition and some of the are very close that you can take a look at the properly and admire the beauty of mother nature and its beautiful creates, they children just simply love it!!!! this is a must if you are visiting Mexico City.
Its free to visit but honestly, its kind of depressing. The whole place is falling apart, the food vendors are all closed. But worst of all, the animals are kept in inadequate conditions, often completely isolated and they all appeared severely depressed. It seems like they are about to maybe close down? Apparently they have already moved some animals to other places and other than one young giraffe I didnt see any signs of attempting to continue breeding...Anyways, Id rather pay to visit a zoo that actually takes care of the animals well.
Half of the animal spaces are empty but you get to see cool jaguars, spider monkeys and one or too panda bear. Avoid the butterfly sanctuary, you have to pay to get in and there are very few butterflies inside.
There is a place to store your bags before you enter. There is no food allowed inside so that helps with keeping it clean. There was no charge to get in but they charge for the bathrooms. Its awesome to see so many different animals!I was able to see almost all of the animals I visited. There is a lot of other things to do right next to the zoo too.I was glad I went.
GREAT VISIBILITY of many different animals, FREE, well kept, clean, pretty quiet also both times i was there. The surrounding park area outside the zoo is expansive and beautiful and great for walking with your girlfriend/boyfriend or family. Neat little shops in the surrounding area also in designated pathways. Honestly, this "area" to include the surrounding area outside the park reminds me of Central Park in New York with its massive size and beauty. We walked past a small lake and rented a little boat for an hour. Really, you cant go wrong with this. Use the zoo as your destination for wandering around and then explore the surrounding area as well. Youll hit it out of the park on this one!!!
Its somewhat a nice place to bring kids and walk around I feel the animals are bid abandoned. I feel they can give the place more life they have a nice selection of animals. Get ready for a long walk. But if you dont want to pay for a museum and want to enjoy a day looking at animal this is your place.
Good place, however must continue with the maintenance of the place and take better care of the animals. In many cases, some are empty habitats, I think they should include some advertisement explaining why.
From what I was able to see in an hour I really enjoyed it and would love to some day reture and see the rest of it. The entrance is free, but you do have to pay in order enter and see the butterflies and smaller insects.
