Small, bustling public square surrounded by restaurants, vendors & historic buildings.
Everybody that goes to Oaxaca should stop at the zocalo and look around. There are a ton of restaurants a ton of Street vendors and just so many things to look at while you are here.
A very lively central square laid out like most Mexican central squares. There is a large church, a municipal building and a park in between the two. The square is very lively with a large number of street vendors, mariachi musicians as well as restaurants and street food stalls. A nice place to hang out in the evening as it seems to bustle even more at night than during the day, in my experience, the Zocalo of Oaxaca is always bus
Beautiful, a must in your visit to Oaxaca. Full of restaurants, coffee shops and a colourful market.
Nice place to watch people passing by and some having a seat to relax. Several places to have a drink and/or meal within two blocks. Band playing on Wednesday evening bringing out many dancers. Views of church and from some points a nearby mountain.
Beautiful place they even have tours in your interested. Many shops around
Great place to pick up the usual gifts or local gear! Also great eating along the west side of the square. Pick up a hat for yourself, some shaved ice to stay cool mid day, and just about any other kind of clothing, accessory, or hand made novelty.
Hub of the city. Great place to people watch
Beautiful, music and the best food
It’s basically the city center for me, it has everything from shops, to food to touristy things to choose from. Music, churches and so much more , this place has it all.
Wonderful place! Lots of things to see and buy around! Super delicious food in restaurants around and also snacks!Just be careful not to have your cellphone on your hands. Keep your cellphone INSIDE your bag or backpack. Keep your backpack on your stomach at all times! Do not wear valuable jewelry! Exercise common sense and enjoy your stay!
The area is beautiful. Unfortunately it was closed and the attendants are very rude when asked questions. We were not able to see it.
Great place next to the big local markets. Zócalo has everything!
El Zócalo is the heart beat of the city. You get historically iconic architecture with some amazing restaurants and everything imaginable for the tourist in all of us. Make sure you bring plenty of pesos. Safe travels.
Need some work... Green spaces. Put fountains to work. Is not so clean and also need some restaurations ... Trees are dying and there are some nosive fauna I mean rats.
I am so in love with this place. OAXACA is so beautiful and so peaceful. I want to call this my forever home some day. Go visit..
A nice historic square in Oaxaca. One of the more touristy spots in Oaxaca with vendors and more brand name shops. Still nice to walk through on your way to other places.
Like always, The Zocalo (downtown squarein Oaxaca City is Magical, I can say it with certainty it has some kind of spiritual ambience not offered anywhere else around...I will see you soon my beloved city... THE CITY OF MY YOUTH...
100% recommended. Tons of amazing flavours and a nice open-air market to visit.
Very pretty area with nice architecture. If in the area you must visit. Nice night life with live music, dancing, and other entertainment.
Always something going on in or around the Zócalo. Today it was an impromptu parade with music and dancers to promote mescal. The Cathedral has been open. Dont miss the acid etched angels on the entry doors.
Peaceful, beautiful, people watching, markets and art museums close by, chillin.
Buildings are beautiful. Dwellers are retarded and rude left as quickly as I could
We enjoy drinking up the energy here each time we visit, including that of the protestors and political graffiti always present. This time, however, the police presence was too strong.
Great place to people watch with loads of restaurants and markets nearby
Pleasant to walk around. I like it in the evening, having lived in SE Asia it is incredibly quiet with no traffic at all.Christmas decorations are going upI didnt like the numerous overflowing large rubbish containers, which attract vagrants. Very out of place in the center of Oaxaca.
This central place in Oaxaca City is so lovely and really you can spend the whole day just sitting on a bench absorbing at all. We ate at a few restaurant surrounding the Zocalo but really they weren’t the best places to eat in the city. There are many things to buy and see there is an active protest going on and lots of shops. There are churches and cobblestones and I bet during celebrations this park really comes alive.
it was pretty Amazing, everything seemed to be happy and everybody was so nice to us.also the sky looked so beautiful
A very nice place to go for a walk. There are a lot of neat things to buy here.
Clean and fun! We were here on Independence Day for the fireworks!
Very lovely sculptures and lots of painting inside. Some work is under going to maintain the property but other than that really nice.
Place with a lote of movement from food, clothes and souvenirs all typical of Oaxaca. This is one of the best places to buy because it has some of the best prices. Theres lot do around Zocalo Oaxaca.
A great city to visit. Lots of shops, cafes and restaurants to try. Although the best food is sold by the street sellers.
You will be here. But there are so many street vendors that for me it is not a place to be in. The vendors sell more or less the same and the restaurants are not very good.
Fantastic town in the mountains. Spanish architecture. Colorful and peaceful
Very lively area thats a must see in Oaxaca, with the Cathedral Metropolitan right off to the side...
One of the best zócalos in Mexico. With mix of rustic buildings and colorful vendors it is magical. It is a great meeting place for vendors from across different regions of the state to show off their goods.
This Zocalo is fantastic you have to stroll in the evenings or seat in one of the restaurants to listen the mariachi band or the marimba who will play Oaxaca’s music which is very simpatico, locals love it and start dancing. The music starts around 8:00 pm every night. Sip a good mezcal while you watch the dancers. You will enjoy it.
Went to the Zocalo for the "noche de rabanos" the festival of the night of the radish. You can see many sculptures made out of radishes, flowers, and corn husks.
Nice place to walk around, sit and relax. Many places to have breakfast, lunch and dinner. A must visit once youre in Oaxaca.
Great place to come and people watch, but souvenirs, walk around or even sit down for a meal. We walked through here many times during our time in Oaxaca and picked up some cheap souvenirs from vendors in the surrounding area.
¡Hermoso lugar! Its also very safe and touristy but of course excersie caution. At night they have a market where youll find many souvenirs at a cheaper price than you will at any of the historic sites. There are a few restaurants around too. There were musical bands and mariachis playing the night I went and it was very entertaining.
Around 7 pm it can get very crowded. I was told they do a celebration every night Im not sure that was my first visit there it was really nice and beautiful they had music and there was a lot of people selling miscellaneous items like toys, food, art and clothes. I would go again if I had the money and time it was one of the funnest experience I really had.
What a gorgeous place. People in this town know how to have fun.... At all hours. Colorful is an understatement...
Place is very nice, there are a lot historical places, many restaurants where you can eat the typical food, also we found many stores and couple markets that sell hand made souvenirs, others stores sell typical colorfull clothes. During day and most in the night we walk on the streets exclusively for pedestrians and enjoy to watch all the commercial area, also we take a ride in the turibus around the city for just $20 dlls.
The tourist area is much bigger than just downtown in Oaxaca City. Most of it is in awesome conditions, very clean, lots of beautiful truly old buildings and houses as well as safe.
This is where all the restaurants, shops and artists show their products and of course, people watching. We were here for El día de los 💀 muertos or the day of the dead. Excellent experience. This area had the altars, parades, face painting and children getting candies. This is where EVERYTHING happens! Do not miss it!
This is a great spot to come hang out, shop, or have a drink. There are restaurants as well as street food vendors around the whole area. A popular item to purchase is a hand woven scarf or bag. Beautiful work done by the artists in this area. Also popular and also famous in this area....Mezcal!The days and evenings can be spent here. I felt perfectly safe walking around alone as well
Great ambience. Beautiful and historic. Foods and street vendors. Its a must when you visit Oaxaca.
Indescribably wonderful. This Market is vibrant and exciting and crowded enough to be thrilling but not so crowded to be annoying. If you are looking for a relaxing experience in a crowd with a tremendous variety of color and flowers and foods and smells and wonderful Sensations this is absolutely the place for you I hardly recommended. There are many families. Their many children. There are many many elderly people and young people and everyone making space for one another and simply enjoying the evening I cannot recommend this highly enough.
The Zocalo may be one of my favorite places on earth. The old-world charm and the most pleasant weather makes it a must-see when in Oaxaca. There are several places to enjoy a good meal outside. This is paradise if you love people-watching.
