Italian chain restaurant for pizza and calzone on wooden boards, plus traditional pastas.
Zizzi in Reading
Description
Privilege
Pros:- good food (most of our meals were tasteful, presentation was nice, and the meals were evenly spaced so we had a bit of a breather),- Garlic Bread w/ Mozzarella is out of this world good,- very friendly staff (dont remember our waiters name, but he was great),- a lot of space,- no crowds around noon midweek,- discounts for Buzz Gym members (at least that was the case in November 2016),- Deliveroo delivers their food in case you want to eat at home and avoid the crowds/people in general.Cons:- Arancini and Classic Margherita were nothing special (I should have tried the rustic version),- pricey for what they offer. All in all a good experience, will definitely come again if not order via Deliveroo.
MoreTook 20 minutes just for them to serve drinks. Very slow service. If they were any slower I would think Im travelling back in time.It took over 45 mins for us to get our food and the restaurant wasnt busy. If you treasure the minutes and hours in your day, avoid at all costs.
MoreStarters came out cold so we sent them back. They were sent back out to us but they had obviously just been microwaved because the food was back with us within minutes and soggy. We ordered bread with a cheese for dipping in which tasted like a cheap mac and cheese sauce. All round the food wasnt very nice.
MoreGood service from the staffs and great food served at the right temperature at one lunch time on Wednesday for a party of us three persons. The prices looked reasonable but the pasta portions were too small as compared with other competitors in town. The pizza was perfectly cooked and served. The restaurant lacks ambience and is in great need of redecorating with contemporary interior design that would be inviting and pleasing to the customers. The table tops were sticky to touch and furniture and decor too dated and drab!
MoreLunchtime visit. Only four others customers but food took 25 mins to arrive. Chose fish, a higher priced dish, but two extremely thin pieces which were very overcooked, dry and ruined. No fish taste left at all. Veg, sauce and potatoes were OK but fish left unpleasant feel later. There was a slight burning fat smell in the air so we had to leave a bit early. Servjng staff were very pleasant and helpful. The other main was good Im told.
MoreI am deliveroo rider, i came to pick up 2 orders & the orders were already half n hour late. When i get in & asked the chef he misbehaved with me. I didnt even ask about the order & he said 30-45 minutes if you cant wait go. He complaint to the manager but she didnt bother either.. thats totally unfair.
MoreDisappointing. Table booking was for 6pm. Seated straightaway but had to wait nearly one and a half hours for food by which time children including a birthday girl were getting irritable and upset. Starters came out incorrect and a side order was missing although charged for on the bill. Was also charged for a dessert which should have been included as part of a set menu. The food we did get tasted nice enough but the long delays meant no one left happy and its an experience we wont be repeating.
MoreWaited 1h30 to be served. The pasta had too much oil. The food and drinks are overpriced for the quality. The portions are small. Disappointing. Will not return or recommend if given a choice.
MoreTook my son for lunch. Starter arrived quickly and we both enjoyed. Then 30 minutes wait for main and the restaurant was not busy. Nearly walked out but stuck with it. Then the main course arrived. Salmon burnt. Pizza pretty poor quality. Ordered a side of green beans. Seriously, I think there we 12 beans. I mentioned to the waitress who said she would check with the kitchen. Came back in a different bowl but same portion and was advised that is the portion. Really poor given green beans are one of the cheapest veggies available, everywhere. The waitress tried and I felt a bit sorry for her as she knew how bad things were. I will never go to Zizi on Kings Road in Reading again. One of the poorest restaurant experiences ever. And I quite like Zizi.
MoreAlways have amazing high quality food and service. There are lots of tasty options for people with dietary requirements and theres student discount. Perfect!! ♥️
MoreLooks like we were unlucky as majority of the reviews are good, staff (two of them and running like headless chickenswere nice, although had to wait for ages for them to take order and they got it wrong. Risotto looked like snot. Generally the food was way too expensive. I will not go again.
MoreOkay so i really loved the food here. There was a little mix up in our reservation tho so sadly we had to go to the zizzi a bit farther from the "Oracle mall" but as tourists and with no plan B we did the walk of maybe 10min max to the other Zizzi where they were happily awaiting us. They are very family friendly and have amazing food with fresh ingredients and a large number of options.
MoreSix family members spent just under £200 at Zizzis for a birthday celebration last night. We had a fun evening, but that was down to our own party spirit rather than the dining experience. The whole evening was a catalogue of errors – most of which were down to completely inadequate training. Even the most basic of restaurant service rules were broken by the kitchen and the waitress. Our starters were not all served together – 2 of our party had to wait an extra 10 minutes for their soup to arrive, so the rest of us had to either start without them or let our food get cold. We all received our main courses on stone cold plates. Most annoying of all was that the waitress did not wait until we had all finished before removing our plates. She cleared throughout the meal as and when individuals finished. So rude! She even started handing out dessert menus to those who had finished, while some of our party were still eating. Not exactly conducive to a relaxing meal! I ordered a cup of English breakfast tea at the end. This was served with boiling milk! I had to ask them to replace it with cold milk. Finally, we paid our bill in cash, but the waitress never came back with our change. Tips are at the customer’s discretion – staff can’t just decide how much they’re going to take and walk off with your money! When you visit a large chain restaurant such as Zizzis, you expect a consistent standard of service based on a company-wide training programme. Zizzis Reading falls very short, I’m afraid. We will try the Oracle branch next time.
MoreDisappointing tonight. After 10 years+ of great service and meals, tonight was the exception. Vegan meal unavailable, 1 meal mostly fat not meat, 1 meal far too spicy. The 3 scoop ice cream served as only 2 scoops. 2 half hours to serve 4 of us and they were not full by any means. Waitress was apologetic and reduced bill.
MoreThe food was amazing, same as the service.Definitely will come again.
The food was really good, but cant say the same about the service unfortunately. The waitress had quite an attitude on her, when I asked a question, which the waitress didnt hear properly, she responded with "what?"...She was also circulating around our table, and when she noticed somebody was done using the bottle from their drink, she would reach out to grab it (literally reaching over the person).Another thing was the fact that she didnt wait for everyone to finish their food before taking the plates away (the restaurant was not busy at all - we were the only ones there), rather she would reach over people to take their plates away? Not sure if shes not happy with her job, or if she simply didnt receive adequate training, but it was not a pleasant experience - when going to a restaurant you partly pay for the service you receive, so it should be a positive one rather than having to deal with rude waitress.
MorePreviously tried to come here just for dessert. Only one table was there, but we were told we couldnt do that. Luckily I walked to the nearby Zizzi in the Oracle and got dessert there.Came back to this restaurant last night. The front door was ajar the whole time and it was quite cold.My father asked if he could have chillies on his pizza, the server effectively said no. I told him that he could add chillies, so he asked to pay for chillies and the server said, it costs extra. When he first asked the server should have said, thats going to be an extra pound is that okay instead of telling him he couldnt. Then, I got the wrong starter. I ended up eating it because I didnt want to waste the food.Because three members of the party ordered from a set menu they ordered their desserts at the beginning of the meal. We assumed (wronglythat the server would ask the rest of us if we wanted to order dessert after our mains. In addition, despite ordering vegan meals all night and asking for black americanos, we were also served a small jug of cows milk on the side. This was quite upsetting to me, as Im making a conscious effort in my daily life to avoid products to vote with my money, but the milk was going to be thrown away despite me specifying I didnt want it.Go to the Zizzi in the Oracle.
MoreRestaurant was nice with good food, the wait wasnt too long and staff were Lovley. However, the restaurant was looking a but run down in areas, and only 2/3 of the ladies toilets were working at the time.Overall I would reccomend, maybe consider the other Zizis if your looking for a finer dining experience.
MorePizza was delicious. Im gluten and dairy intolerant which can sometimes be difficult but Zizzis had a good choice for me. I even had a sweet which was a lovely treat. Great evening for our daughters birthday.
MoreGenerally cant go wrong but slow with drinks orders. Food is always goods but as with other reviews of zizzi in different locations the pizza toppings on certain pizzas are declining in volume.
MoreA bit chilly (we visited on a day when it was 2 degrees outside, it didnt feel a lot warmer inside). Offers advertised outside the door were not available when we visited, which was very irritating. However staff were kind & helpful and food was good. Not my first choice, but not disappointing either; and many of my trips to Zizzi have been just that.
MoreHavent been to this branch in a while. Came here as we couldnt get a table in the one near oracle. I am guessing as the oracle one has come up there are hardly any people here now and hence I was a bit skeptical to start. But the service was really good and the food was great too! Lovely meat ball starters and the pasta dish was good too. The chocolate brownie with salted caramel was absolutely divine!!
MoreWhat on earth is a curry coloured carbonara, with a slice of fried prosciutto on top?I guess they fried the prosciutto and poured the cream on that. The waitress never checked that everything was ok with the food ordered and she was wandering around the restaurant which was practically empty. We could finally get her attention and she got the manager who was not able to explain what had happened to the brownish carbonara. He offered another dish or a dessert to my wife but she was already put off her appetite. We used to like the place some time ago, but they must have change their chef. A pity
MorePerfect for family dinner .
I visited this place with my friends and portion was very small. I tried lamb stake and it costs 15.50 pounds and it was too small. I dont eat a lot but it was way smaller than I think. So I went to have a burger after eating my lamb stake.
MoreI normally really enjoy Zizzis food. This branch, however, has awful service. Last year I booked my birthday meal for 20 people on Saturday 11th November 2017. After booking, I called a few days before the meal to ensure the booking was still in place. Everything seemed fine. When we turned up on the Satruday, they told us that the booking was made for the Friday, and not the Saturday, which really was not the case. Instead of giving us a seat, they suggested we walk to the Zizzis by the Oracle and make sure we hadnt booked there instead. We walked, I hadnt booked there, and so we came back to this Zizzis. It was now nearly 45 minutes after the time I booked for, and I had 20 people with me. After some discussion, they said theyd be able to seat us. Once we had ordered, we waitied over two hours until our food arrived. There was no apology or anything. We missed our booking at the bar I had booked because of this.I wanted to give them a few more chances before deciding to write this review. I visited last week, on a Sunday around 5pm. In the entire resturant there was only me, my partner and one other couple. Despite this, it still took far too long for our order to be taken and for our food to be served. We waited nearly 40 minutes. After our pizza had arrived we noticed that they had missed one of the toppings. I told the waiter, and he brought our pizzas back to the kitchen to be rectified. The chef stared at me from behind the kitchen as this happened. Usually Id put this down to human error (which it likely wasand had this been a first offence, I honestly would have not cared at all, but after such repeated shoddy service, I cant. I wont be returning to this Zizzis again.
MoreHad to wait for over 40 min to get my food. When it finally arrived not only was the lamb overcooked but the portion was tiny. Certainly not going to go there ever again.
MoreFood was great but had to wait a while for the starters even though there was not many people in the restaurant. Great vibe in there very relaxed. Would recommend.
MoreNeed to improve on their vegan option. Not much there. Spend butt loads of money for nth. Bread and tomatoes. Staffs were nice though. And no vegan hot drinks.
MoreWe (familywent for a meal, very slow service. Drinks and starters arrived after 30 mins, followed by main meal after 30 mins, overall the food didn’t taste nice at all. This would be the last time we go there.
MoreGood place for a large table meal
Ordered the antipasto sharer with different kind of cured meat/salamis as a home delivery. Arrived without "mixed olives", no "mini balsamic onions", no "fresh figs", no "bursting balsamic pearls". I cant be bothered with people sending out half of dish to customer, so I just wont order again. The only positive is, that whatever leftovers from this dish actually managed to reach me were fresh. Still, to say I am dissapointed is an understatement, theres no excuse to be this undersold. Its just beyond me how you dare to send out something so incomplete out of kitchen.
MoreLoved the pizza! Kids loved it too
Clean, good choice of food, friendly staff, food.arrives promptly. Can get super loud inside as its a small zizzi - went there a few weeks ago and a company was in there celebrating something - it was loud but what do you expect. The restaurant cant do anything about it and the food still good. Highly recommend signing up to their newsletter as often can get a decent discount code
MoreHad garlic cheese bread as a starter to share. All the cheese was in the middle of the bread and nothing on the sides . the main meal was so salty we couldnt eat it and forget paying with a gift card as they couldnt process it on their machine which was very embarrassing as people thought our bank card had been declined ...in the end after 4 attempts we had to pay cash . will never return !!!!
MoreA bit noisy and theyll ensure that they shove you out of the restaurant to serve other customers, which is most un-Italian about Zizzi. Otherwise good is okay, nothing close to real Italian, but eatable. Bill. Ciuld easily goto £40 for 2, do a bit on the expensive side.
MoreDidnt have two of the dishes we tried to order. They had also run out of a number of soft drinks. The waiter tried his best. The food was pretty poor, which for a chain restaurant is impressive. Used to find zizzis a fairly reliable go to place...but i think its a struggling chain.
MoreVery noisy during peak hours to the point where its difficult to hear other people at your table.Off-peak the lunch menu is great and the options for GF and other allergies are wide-ranging, so its a good choice if you have someone in your group with one. And the allergy dishes are actually tasty and versions of the main menu!Food is excellent and fresh with generous pizza portions. Desserts are small but rich and thats all you need. Drinks are a little on the pricey side for what they are but food is reasonably priced.
MoreWe booked a table of eight here at 8.15 on a Friday night for our work Christmas do. We were left hanging around in the doorway for 20 minutes while they waited for a table to appear, even though theyd actually called us earlier in the day to confirm the booking. When we finally sat down, it took another half hour for anyone to take our orders (we had to get the menus ourselves). The drinks didnt turn up until 9.45; still no sign of the food. We left. No apologies, explanation and not even half a damn was given by the staff. Save your money and go elsewhere - especially if youre considering a Christmas meal, because it will look and feel like any other meal you could have there. (If it even turns up.)
MoreNice meal and great staff. I have to addmit i ordered something that i just didnt like. Completely my fault. When asked if I was enjoying it I admited I wasnt. The survey was very good and insisted I close another dish and had it ready very quickly. He was very appologetic even though there was nothing wrong with the food except my taste. Thank you :)
MoreNothing special...far below average. I had the seafood dish that the mussels were a bit off- when the shells were shut they would not be safe to be consumed but they were still put into the plate. The company dont care, do they?
MoreI love their vegan cuisine❤️❤️
I love this place. A really chilled atmosphere where you never feel rushed to eat and leave. The only place I know I can get vegan cheesy pizza in Reading! They often have offers if you check their website. LOVE!!!!
MoreNice quiet Sunday lunch with kids after getting smashed watching Goldie at Henley Festival. Decent food, warm bottle of overpriced Peroni was not what the doctor ordered.. maybe a bit too quiet, not much atmosphere..
MoreNot a nice atmosphere, been waiting ages for our food, no apologies no interest. My pizza was burn and my friends main chicken to. Rude staff, no smiling just generally not a pleasant place. A shame because the food used to be nice.
MoreHad a bad experience here with a vegan pizza being bought out with dairy cheese on, despite a "vegan" sticker being placed on the plate. Very dangerous for a dairy allergy sufferer. Oh and normal pasta instead of gluten free pasta for another dish. That was 2 out of 3 meals wrong.Basically, if you have special dietary needs, you might want to be extra vigilant at this branch and double check what is served up.
MoreZizzi Reading, its a little far out from the town centre but dont let that fool you its worth the walk for the food. The food had been great, we had started with the calamari which was cooked perfect! The mains were just as good ham and cheese pizza, and lasagna. We never felt rushed unlike some places around Reading. The waiter Anxheco had been friendly and cracked a few good jokes.Overall the visit to Zizzi was pleasant and will return again.
MoreThe food was average but the service was appalling, we waited about an hour for ice cream and had to ask multiple times for water! The restaurant wasnt even busy, as we were the only people there, so there was no reason for the poor service. In addition we could hear the staff smashing multiple glasses during our stay. We are outraged and would not recommend this restaurant, we are never going back.
MoreThe service was friendly and good. The atmosphere of the restaurant at the time that I went was very good with many other people inside the restaurant adding to the atmosphere. The food was of a good quality as well and I had no qualms with the food.
MoreWent there midweek for an afternoon lunch date with my wife :Lucky to find parking right outside its door. The place was half full so the staff were quick to seat us and take order. The food (as many before have pointed outis GREAT. Its slightly on the pricey side but the ambiance and food quality make it worth the price tag.I have no doubt I will go there again. Would highly recommend it especially if youve never been before.
