Modern take on Russian street food with a vast vodka lineup, served up in a homey basement.
It was my first true experience in a Russian restaurant and I absolutely loved it. Polina, our fantastic waitress, gave me the absolute best tips for my experience and gave us all the help and services one expects from a highly valued restaurants. Fully deservant of the 5 stars for service, food and price.
Very tasty and home made traditional russian.Thank you Polina for your kindness during my lunch !
Lovely food and really friendly service by Liza K👏🏻
This is my favourite place to eat in Soho. From the moment you are greeted on entering to leaving, its a great experience. Ambience is perfect and food is exceptional, as is the service. My most recent visit was on Saturday night, a small birthday celebration, as usual the food was delicious and service (provided by Laurawas faultless. There was an unexpected bonus after dinner where my friend and I were led into their Karaoke bar in the basement where I was presented with a little birthday surprise cake! Had a great time in the bar singing to the classics and learning some Russian classics too! Thanks Zima!
Visited for lunch and had a thoroughly enjoyable afternoon. The beef stroganoff is delicious and Im so glad I chose the honeycake for dessert.Service was efficient and friendly and I loved the atmosphere in the restaurant. Will definitely visit again.
Authentic russian food with good service! But some of the items like Olivier salad and syrniki was not good :( i can understand olivier salad (every family has their own recipebut syrniki (cheese cake pancakeswere not sweet at all :(But pirozhki and shuba were like my grandma used to make them!! I wish we had place like that in Los Angeles.
Amazing food and beautiful interior. This is not a cheap restaurant but the food is so well prepared that you wont mind paying the little extra. The beetroot soup was great and so the mushroom and potato dumplings
Highly recommend! We had the most delicious Russian dinner. Also, we’ve been served by amazing girl, her name is Elizaveta. She was kind and attentive to all details. Thank you very much! Definitely will come back with friends for more experience.
We had such a lovely evening here at Zima. Friendly atmosphere and fantastic food! Liza K was lovely 😊
Very disappointing experience. I’ve booked this place for my friends Birthday celebration as it was recommended by friends few months ago. I don’t think it was authentic russian food. Portions were small, very long waiting time, nearly two hours in restaurant And we managed to have soup and main course. Service disappointing. It was very hard to get attention from the staff. And we were one of 3 tables in restaurant. No one asked if we need more drinks, water… Would never recommend, and come back.
Great experience. Very authentic. Loved the atmosphere and the server Sophia was terrific. The desserts were amazing - highly recommend! The honey cake and the apple cake (seasonal favoritewere wonderful. The best of the meal were Olivier salad, the pickles, the aubergine, and beef stroganoff. Lovely place and we had a great time.
Had a lovely dinner at Zima. Many thanks to Polina for being so attentive to us, explaining everything on the menu, and offering a great dessert recommendation. And for putting up with me trying by beginners Russian. The food was excellent. We tried the seasonal herring fillet (the rye bread is delicious, reminds me a lot of Danish rugbrod), the borsch was on the sweeter side and made a great pairing with the salted salo it was served with, the meat pirozhki were fluffy and flavorful. The dessert I had was the condensed milk blinis, which tasted lovely and not overly sweet but looked more like crepes than blinis. By far, my favorite was the black fish pelmeni. Not overly fishy, good ratio of dough to filling, and a nice sauce to dip them in. One thing to note is that all of these are relatively small platters.I dont usually drink, but I did try the seabuckthorn flavored vodka and it tasted surprisingly nice. All in all, a great experience and I look forward to going back again.
I was second time in this really nice restaurant with my friendsHere you can try very tasty mealsI recommend this place
Set of 10 shots is amazing! Pozarsky cutlets recipe was not the one I expected. Dish was made from minced meat, rather than chopped small meat pieces, moreover it was oversalted, hence no taste.
Authentic Russian/Ukrainian cuisine. The bortsch was incredible, the pelmenis and Olivier salad were very good too. Attentive service. It’s better to book, because it can get very busy
My wife and I have been visiting Zima for years now. Their borsch is incredibly delicious so we definitely recommend having a bowl with your meal. They also offer a series of tasty vodka cocktails, including a Zima Sour that I cant recommend enough. If you love good Russian food I highly recommend eating here.
Went with my international friend to ZIMA just for the cultural experience and the feeling of nostalgia. The food was great, cocktails were as well. But service… service is just terrible. Left with nasty feeling that we overpaid despite the fact that food and a place itself is beautiful. Absolutely no desire to come back!
My husband took me to Zima for my birthday. It was a delightful experience. We were nestled in among beautiful pieces of Russian art, adding to the very special experience. Laura our waitress was great at making suggestions for us. The vereniki (Russian dumplingsand the Piroshki (filled bunswere really delicious. Advertised as feeding our soul, indeed you have; chef Alexi Zimin, it was a very wholesome experience. Thanks you- I loved it and can’t wait to go again ❤️
We were pleased with tidiness and warm welcome. Amazing quality food fromfresh ingredients. Plenty of room for each table. Special regards to Laura for taking care about us!
The food was absolutely delicious! Ill definitely be back.
I had a lovely dinner here with a Polish friend, who was able to verify to me the authenticity of these dishes.I thoroughly enjoyed the dumplings, but the highlight for me was the cottage cheese pancakes. The dinner was topped of by the lovely waitress Poliuer, who was wonderfully attentive and introduced the dishes to us.
I have very unfortunately, received absolutely awful service at this restaurant by one of their "hostesses" tonight which is such a shame as Zima has been one of my favourite restaurants and go to for Russian food in London. The actual food and table service was very good and the service is always great having visited this restaurant many times as a loyal customer who made a reservation when this incident occurred. There was one young female with dark hair who was a "hostess" who was extremely rude and gave service I have never experienced before living in London. We reserved a table at their shisha lounge for after dinner which was a one hour gap by the time we had finished our dinner. To help kill time, we ordered cocktails as we waited for our table at the shisha lounge, the hostess then demanded that we had to pay now and not together with our shisha. Having been to this restaurant and lounge many times, I know this is not true, however myself and my partner still paid as the hostess wanted us to pay now rather than all together. She then escorted us to our table, having got comfortable and seated, she later arrived with a smirk in her face apologising that we had to move tables because that particular shisha spot was "reserved" which I know is not true (againas the lounge does not reserve the actual tables, additionally, we had a 19.00pm reservation. She then moved us between two different groups of people and we felt shy as other clients in the lounge started to look at us as we had to keep moving around and move all the drinks we had to different tables on three separate occasions. Before even looking at the menu, the hostess returned and said we had an hour and 45 minutes and kept repeating and announced in front of everyone at the lounge. (NB: The menu says 2 hours maximum rather than an hour and 45 minutes). She announced it so loudly, you could see other customers all turning around and looking at her when it was directed towards us. Once again, the hostess said it with a smirk in her face, and when I then asked to speak to the manager, she tried to act like she was "all innocent" and spoke to the manager in Russian about a completely separate issue (which was the time slotwhen it was instead her attitude and how she treated us. The manager seemed to have understood and offered us drinks which was nice of her however, this does not account for the terrible service we received from the so called "hostess" who had an appalling attitude and behaviour. I have been going to Zima every week and a very valued customer but I will not be returning after the awful service we received tonight. It is a real shame as the food and table service is nice but how can you treat customers like this? Management please feel free to check CCTV, this incident happened around 19.00pm on Saturday 20 August. The so-called hostess should seriously reconsider he job and role, she was pestering us throughout our time there and kept returning to make our time there as miserable as possible. Seriously, get your act together and reconsider whether she is really suitable for her role if that is how she treats loyal customers. I have always recommended friends and family to Zima but most certainly will not any longer.
Best restaurant ever! I went here a while back, but remember my visit fondly. The staff and our waitresses were all very friendly, always with a smile on their face and happy to help out! They weren’t afraid to engage in conversation and give advice on what to order, whilst also respecting your space as you eat. The food itself was heavenly, I ordered classic Russian dishes such as Borscht and the Olivier as my starter and main. The borscht was the best I had ever had, and I’ve had many! It’s taste was so pure and the soup was the perfect texture as well as filling without being sickly. The olivier was perfect , the way the vegetables were cut and the salad’s presentation was beautiful but the taste took it to the next level. At this point I was full, but I ordered a dessert just to take advantage of the time in the restaurant while I could! I believe I had the blinis with jam, which was again just amazing, perfect soft pancakes. I think about this restaurant a lot because the food, the chef, the menu , the presentation of the restaurant itself , the staff and the overall experience was just beyond perfect! A must go whilst in London, please support this wonderful restaurant ! I cant wait to go back and try new things…
Everything about this place was amazing! Came here with colleagues and we all left happy. Staff were friendly, the food was divine! I highly recommend the beef Stroganoff, the honey cake, the speciality vodka, basically everything! I would come here again!
Great! Love the food a lot. Now they have Plombir (ice creamand it’s so tasty it’s reminds me of childhood.
My first time trying Russian cuisine and it was the BEST experience ever!!! Everything is soooo tasty! ♥️♥️♥️Eduard was amazing! So nice with us and very very kind!I absolutely loved the experience!I loved the vodka infused with fruits, especially the one with mango and chili!
A great selection of Russian and Ukrainian dishes. Friendly and helpful staff. You cant not try the honey layer cake and a flavoured vodka (or two).
Great service, great selection of Cocktails and a beautiful Shisha lounge. We didn’t try the food however it looked very appetising.
The closest you can get to the traditional Russian cuisine in London. It’s authentic and the decor is soviet kitsch. My partner really enjoyed their beef stroganoff and I can highly recommend the sturgeon.
It was a nice experience eating here.Their Kiev chicken was amazing! The beef stroganoff was really delicious and the borscht soup was just fantastic.I find prices of some dishes like their pickles and their beef stroganoff not matching the portion you get and also not matching to other dishes’ price. Other than that, a must try if you are around soho!
The staff were attentive and friendly! There were amazing choices of awesome Russian food. Their dessert selection was great too!
First time to try authentic Russian cuisine and it did not disappoint. Service and quality was very high. Definitely recommend the Solyanka soup, beef stroganoff and Medovik (layered honey cake).I did also tried the apple pie (nothing too specialand sturgeon fish fillet which was quite small but the cauliflower bed was amazing.Would overall recommend.
My favourite Russian restaurant in London. Conveniently located right in the heart of Soho. Unpretentious modern eatery offering a great introduction to the Russian food and culture. Great service too.
My wifey & our friends & Me had a fantastic dinner in the ZIMA Russian Restaurant.Everybody ordered a different plate of food and We say everything is totally amazing. The portion is enough, the taste is gorgeous. The place’s atmosphere is homey. 👍🏻If You would like to try something different from Russia just go in & order something.Don’t forget the traditional Russian drinks. 😉
Excellent lunch at Zima! Service was great, but food was simply amazing, quality price is excellent and highly recommend to any one visiting Soho! I’ll definitely will be back!
Went to Zima around a month ago. Was an amazing experience and I cant wait to go back. Reasonable prices for Russian food as its fairly hard to come by. And I must say to anyone wanting to try Russian food, dont hesitate! Try it! Its very underrated and not talked about enough.I also found my new favourite dessert from this restaurant. Medovik. Russian Layered Honey Cake. Its to die for! Immaculately light and elegant, full of flavour and Id go back here just for that with a cup of tea or coffee...or their home-brewed Vodka!
My Russian-Finnish wife says this is as authentic as it gets. So Ill take her for her word for it. As for myself, I loved the lamb dumplings and the salad. Absolutely great food with the astounding contrast of richness (sour cream, fats and fish eggsand acidity. I have much to learn about Russian food, but this was a good representation of it. Dessert of honey cake and cottage cheese pancake was also a delight.
Food was amazing, plentiful and well presented, however service was slow and some items were forgotten, so the experience was not what we had hoped for, if this is rectified this would easily have been 5 stars
Very pleased to be served in this restaurant.Very good caviar and traditional Russian food.Only two things can be better next time ,type music and the temperature of wine fridge.Music was very “nostalgic”,can be better the new generations of Russian music and cold wine!Highly recommended.
Amazing Russian restaurant with great fruit infused vodka and cocktails.Must try: horseradish vodka, fish dumplings, potato salad (Olivier salad), honey cake, Kvass. You might want to avoid: Borscht krasnodarsky, pickled Herring.
Well done to Zima for such an outstanding service, and delicious food! Our waiters (Annechka and Lukaswere extremely attentive and the staff overall were very welcoming. We had the famous Olivier salad, which was delicious, and my friend really enjoyed her vinigret, much better than Marry Vanna.Well done to u guys, will definitely visit again.
Delicious Russian food with a fantastic ambience in the heart of SoHo. Lovely experience, will definitely return. The lamb pielmeni were the star of the evening!
Zima was amazing. Lovely staff who were attentive and welcoming. Interior was very nice and quirky with lots of character. All the food was excellent, especially Salad Olivier and the Seafood Dumplings! Will definitely come back as the service was ace.
Great food and atmosphere as usual. Outside area is available (not heated!), booking wasnt an issue. Highly recommend their set of Nastoykas - super tasty home made vodka based berry drinks.
I grew up eating this cuisine and I can tell you it’s very very good. I was very pleased with everything we ordered - the soup, aubergine special, vareniki and desserts. I also enjoyed the ambiance and the service were both great. I loved the brand consistency in every detail including the takeaway bags, the food presentation etc. Will be back many many times!
Absolutely enjoyed the meals here, from starters till desserts, all so spot on and delicious. Service was very good, staff were very attentive. More importantly, we weren’t expecting the Eat Out to Help Out discount still valid until we were ready to pay, so a really nice surprise to have £10 discount on each person. So go now haha
The best Russian food in London. I’ve been here a few times before lockdown. Great selection of traditional Russian dishes (just as good as babushka’s food!). Very cheap compared to other restaurants in this area. Staff is always nice and friendly. Looking forward to eating here again.
We tried different dishes at Zima and all of them were delicious. Not only full of taste and with balanced flavours, but also very nicely decorated. The Restaurant has a nice relaxed atmosphere and the service was careful, which made the lunch experience extremely positive. Our favourite were the dumplings, but everything was worth trying. If you love good food and care more about quality that quantity Zima will not disappoint you.
Amazing food! First time having Russian food and it was a great experience. We didn’t know what to order at all so we let the waiter decide for us. Everything he selected was excellent, specially the herring under fur coat! Will definitely be coming back!
Lots of good things going on here. Uncomplicated but well plated food. As there aren’t many Russian restaurants around, it is had to compare a standard. Nonetheless, the food is not highly flavoured or spiced but good - they rely on the the inherent flavours of each dish. The service was very good - our server was great at explaining the food and the drinks. And she made great recommendations for us.
