Zeitungsente in Mainz

This place is always full whenever we walk by, so we checked it out. Terrible. There are a bunch of benches so you have to sit next to strangers and because of this it is very loud and hard to converse. This is made even worse by the fact that there are people smoking cigarettes next to you (seriously, it’s 2022, what kind of nasty people still smoke?). The drinks were also weak and watered down. The service was VERY slow - it took 15 minutes to make our drink order and after 45 minutes no one had come to take our food order. Further, they don’t have their own food, they just bring food from the restaurants around them - none of which are particularly high quality. And the menus were missing pages. The staff was nice enough, even if incompetent. We got drinks and just went elsewhere to eat. I have no idea how this place stays in business. I do not recommend this place.

Einfach Tolle Atmosphäre sehr Nettes Personal. Außerdem hat man hier sehr schnell Kontakt mit anderen Gästen. Es lohnt sich einfach mal reinschauen.

Die Zeitungsente hat schon fast Kultstatus. Im Sommer eine tolle Kneipe, wo man super draußen sitzen kann und ein gepflegtes Getränk zu sich nehmen kann, während das Mainzer leben an einen vorbeizieht. Speisen gibts hier nicht, aber mehrere umliegende Restaurants legen ihre Speisekarten aus und beliefern die Terrasse mit ihre Produkte. Man bestellt bei der "Ente"-Bedienung .Drinnen und im Winter nicht mein Ding da Raucherkneipe.

Ich habe vor einigen Wochen mit Freunden einen Schoppen getrunken. Es freut mich immer wieder, wenn ich meine Heimat besuche, hier zu sein! Daumen hoch!

Als Durchreisender aus Versehen gefunden. Ausgezeichneter Wein, nette Gespräche und eine nette Bedienung. Hinzu kommt, daß im benachbarten Restaurant Essen bestehlt werden kann. Fand ich außergewöhnlich. Bei meinem nächsten Aufenthalt in Mainz werde ich hier wieder einkehren 🥰

Bedienungen sind auf zack!Das Konzept mit dem Essen ist genial.Es liegen Speisekarten der umliegenden lokale aus, die liefern dir dein bestelltes essen an den Tisch so kann jeder am Tisch bestellen auf was er lust hat. 👌

Normalerweise hätte ich 5 Sterne gegeben, wenn diese eine Bedienung mit der undefinierbaren grau-blau-grünen Haarfarbe nicht wäre. Sie entscheidet sich pro Abend immer für ein paar Personen, die sie nicht bedienen will, ohne jeglichen Grund. Ich weiß nicht, ob das im Sinne des Besitzers ist, aber diese Person geht gar nicht. Wenn sie nicht da ist, gehen wir rein, sonst freut sich eben eine andere Kneipe über den guten Umsatz.

Die "Kultkneipe" in Mainz, sehr gute Weine, super Service, die Stammgäste sind eine große Familie,mit neuen Gästen kommt man nach wenigen Minuten ins Gespräch, prima Konzept im Freien mit den Bänken, da sitzen 8 bis 10 Gäste an einem Tisch

This place is very nice to have some drinks and meet with people, can be that ypu sit next to other groups which makes it nice if you want to socialize, but if you are looking for a more quite place maybe this is not the best option. They dont have food on their own, but you can order from all the restaurants around, which makes it very nice as you have then extensive options to choose. I think the best is the ambiente definitely!

Loriot sagte mal " ein Leben ohne Mops ist vorstellbar aber sinnlos". So würde es uns ohne Zeitungsente gehen. Eine gemütliche , entspannte kleine Kneipe mit einem sehr entspannten Publikum. Nach jedem Stadtbummel ist es für uns Pflicht dort noch ein Kaltgetränk zu uns zu nehmen und es uns einfach gut gehen zu lassen. Kurzum " ein Leben ohne Zeitungsente ist vorstellbar aber sinnlos".Danke und liebe Grüße Thomas und Heike

Great concept! I have never seen a place were you can only buy drinks and were you have to order food from the local places. It is an amazing idea! And the weinshorles are not bad either. 5/5

Eine der letzten großen Kneipen Dinos in Mainz. Gutes Preis-Leistungsverhältnis der Getränke. Immer nette Bedienungen und urgemütlich. Mit aber auch vielen jungen Publikum.

Really nice place to be at during summer. The outdoor seats were very comfortable. I was here for lunch and they have a huge menu because it actually is a pub that serves food from all the neighboring eateries. So there are different types of cuisines ranging from German to Lebanese and Korean to Turkish. Its impressive. There are about six restaurants combined if I remember correctly. The prices are typical eating-out prices but not expensive. The portions are gigantic! I had to wrap my food to takeaway. The waiter and waitress were very attentive and so super approachable and sweet. Lots of bike place to lock your bike.

The place to be, tres chic, busy too. Good conversations to be had and hard to leave.If in Mainz dont miss it.

Great outdoor area in a pedestrian zone, with a more unique approach to ordering food.The 🦆 (Ente), as most locals call it by its short form, is a great place, especially in the warmer months of the year. (This review will mostly be about the outdoor area.The Zeitungsente itself only offers drinks, but they have menu, from which you can order from the sourrounding restaurants. You can even order from any other restaurants or bring fiod yourself and eat it there. The waiter will oder for you, if you order something from "their" menu.Only real drawback in my eyes and the reason why the 🦆 is not for me in the colder months; the indoor space is a smoking area. I am myself a smoker but after a while and especially if more and more people visit it, the air can get very stuffy.But as I mentioned earlier, I really like the outdoor area with the long benches, good drinks and a cool approach to providing food for you customers. In my opinion, if its a bit warmer, or cold weather dont bother you, its a really great place to visit and enjoy the ambience.

Pretty nice place for having a drink or watching a football game. You can order anything from restaurants nearby and the waiters will come over and serve you at the table. Just try it out, its awesome!

Best format of the Restaurant Ive ever visited!Absolutely cozy place at the nice district of the city. There is a lot of Cafes and restaurants around. And at this place you can only buy drinks (they havent any foodand order any food from the restaurants around. Its an Italian restaurant, Sushi, Fish restaurant, Thai, Vietnam and even Kebab (Dönner).So you need to pay for your food to the waiter from restaurant (dont forget to give them a tipsand for a drinks you will pay layer for the waiter of Zeitungsente.Stuff are incredible nice. Dog friendly (your dog can also get a drink here).

On a hot day, it is the perfect location in downtown Mainz to have a beer and chill out. Charming atmosphere, tree-cover from the sun, and right next to the shopping district.

We were a young american army family and served with the Airborne at Lee Barracks. We lived in an apartment a little over a block away. We ate at this little restaurant twice a month, when I was not in the field, during the period 1966-1969 and the food was excellent! The reason for this review is we were looking through our scrap book and noticed the picture we took of our favorite restaurant in Mainz.Of course we did not have multimedia in those days (I was in my 20s now Im in my 70s. We got to know the owners then and when we left they gave the wine bottle candle from the table we always sat at. It is still on our bucket list to get back there someday. Again, excellent food!
