Opatička ul. 20, 10000, Zagreb, Croatia, Zagreb
Local museum with artifacts & displays tracing the history of Zagreb from ancient to modern times.
Incredibly well done. Well worth a visit.
Great view
Wonderful place with much history and different interesting objects.
Very informative with very interesting exhibits
Great museum, wish more history museums were as organized, in-depth, and interesting
Great overview of Croatias and Zagrebs history. Would definitely recommend for anyone interested in the history. If you are not into it, then you probably are good without a visit.
It’s rich in history especially medieval, and wide collection of artifacts. English friendly. However the museum has poor elaboration about modern political transformation after WW2 and till date which is disappointing
The museum is cheap and beautiful, you can also revisit the place for free with that tickets in 1 month
Decent exhibit on the history of Zagreb. Would have been better with English translations (Google Translates Croatian to English is less than optimal)
I enjoyed to walk around and look at the citys history. Should have been explanations in english also
Great museum to learn about the history of Zagreb. Got tickets from the counter with no queues. Recommend for everyone whos interested in Zagreb’s history!
The best city museum Ive seen. It has an almost overwhelming amount of interesting stuff. Leave plenty of time and rest often.
Its okay, you have to be into history to enjoy it
I think its one of the places you should visit while you are in Zagreb. Its well organised and there are a lot of information about the city and the life of Zagreb through out the centuries. Dont be disappointed at the beginning because it seems boring but as walk inside it gets more interesting. But I have to commend on how rude the guard was. We had 2 last rooms to visit, the part about the civil war of Yugoslavia but he wouldnt leave us 3 more minutes after the closing time.
Very thorough and professionally curated museum. We are from the U.S. and every room had at least one written presentation in English. We learned a lot and enjoyed the presentation of the material.
Great tribute to the City of Zagreb itself. Would recommendto anyone visiting Zagreb.
It was a nice museum but 3/4 of the text was in croatian
Zagreb City Museum is a good way to learn about Zagrebs rich history. Staff at front desk are extremely helpful.
A condensed and visually engaging journey through Croatias history. Highly recommended!
To be honest, a bit boring. Very slow to start. The most modern history around Croatia declaring independence toward the end of the museum had very little space dedicated to it but could stand to have a lot more. Would have found that much more fascinating. For me personally, not worth it.
we enjoyed it. quite many historical artifacts. some of the descriptions are only in croatian.
Very big, detailed, good value with student discount. Cash or card accepted
essential in a visit to zagreb if you want to learn about the area you’re staying in. this place is HUGE with 45 main sections. do note that only the main section headers are in english, everything else is in croatian. near the broken relationships museum and the naïve art museum.
Great ambience in a historical building in the old upper town. Great museum!!
The museum has quite a lot to offer. I liked the fact that the the museum itself is arranged as some sorts of labrinth so its interesting for the tourists maybe. There are exhibitions from all periods of Zagrebs history. Only thing i would advice is having more labels in english to ease the experience. Again i would recommend it for a visit. Its not allowed to take pictures in the museum, but its better this way, instead of taking photos of everything just succumb in the museums atmosphere.
Must see in Zagreb. History from iron age to modern. Plan sufficient time for visit!
Zargeb city museum was awesome, good to know this city.
Five star because I was pleasantly surprised, since you usually dont expect much from regional museum... However this was an exception... World recommend it to everyone who wants to learn more about Zagrebs history.
Lovely and detailed exhibits. Has lift between floors and chairs for older folk to rest. Not all exhibits have English descriptions.
The museum shows the development of Zagreb from ancient settlement to the present times. Worth visiting if you want to know more about the history of the city.
Great history museum with lots to see. Do be prepared to reed and use Google translate if needed. No pictures allowed in side.
Absolutely amazing city museum. A testimony of love for the city of Zagreb... the best Ive seen so far. Go through each period of its history in great reproduction and details. Special kudos for recognizing the darkest part of it too, a rare sight in the region (and in the world tbh)Dont miss it !
The Zagreb City Museum is one of our favorite museums in the area. The museum spams a period when Zagreb was born in 800 BC until the modern times. You really move through the various rooms in the museum. The collection that consists of many different objects, from the artifacts from the Cathedral to furniture through the ages. It was well laid out with good descriptions in all of the galleries. Amazing museum that definitely worth a visit when youre in Zagreb.
Giving relatively low marks for relative lack of English translations that made it hard for me to appreciate the exhibits. If you speak Croatian, feel free to ignore this review.
Enjoyed the opportunity with the interactive exhibits on the history of the city.
Great museum! Has lots of interesting stuff in there, historical and new age, 3 floors full of history. Must see if you are into history and even if not
Fantastic museum!! Told the story of Zagreb very well. The statues from the old Croatian Cathedral were our favorite.
Like the name says, the museum is about the history of Zagreb city. It starts from the iron age artifacts discovered in the grounds below and around the museum and ends with artifacts from time of Croatian independence. In between it tells the story of the city with related items from each generation on display. Interesting for those who love history. Nothing extraordinary though. Entry ticket is cheap (30 kunasand it was very quiet on a Saturday morning. It is situated at the edge of Upper town which is interesting as much of the exhibition was about things that happened in this area over centuries.
A very old fashioned style museum where the main point of interaction is doing a lot of reading. It has a lot of amazing and information about the history of Zagreb and is therefor worth it. But I just really wished it was presented in a bit more... Modern way.
Nice to learn some history, nice collection. However you will make it more rewarding for visitors by putting more descriptions in larger print, in English. The museum was stifling and hot, the air was stagnant, and even if there’s no a/c some fans could help.
If you are a resident in Zagreb and want to know more about the cultural heritage of this wonderful city, please visit the City Museum. Museum holds a large collection of objects that date back from the very beginnings of human settlements in the area, as well as the origins of the current city in XI century, with the settlements of Kaptol and Gradec. Scale models of the city and its main buildings, paintings, sculptures, weapons, clocks, medals, coins, advertisement, photographies, maps, flags, tapestries, etc., help the visitor understand the evolution of the city across the centuries from the past to present times. Explanations are both in Croatian and in English. The museum is located in a former Poor Clares Convent. One of the most interesting sections of the museum is a bridge-corridor that crosses an archaeological exploration area located just below. I would say that a three-hour tour is the shortest amount of time you should dedicate to this Museum. It is located in the upper part of the city, so if you are at Trg Jelacic, be aware that you will have to walk for 15-20 minutes at a slow pace in order to reach the Museum, but it is truly worth the effort.
Great place to start when youre exploring Zagreb city. This museum has a lot of interesting things inside. You will experience history of this city from BC. till todays world. There are some texts that you can read containing great facts about Zagreb history. However, this museum doesnt have any interactive exhibition. Because of this, it may be boring for some tourists to just read about everything. At least everything is in English as well.
An informative and well-preserved museum that takes you on a journey through Zagrebs rich history. The well written English descriptions (as well as Braillemakes it a place that can be enjoyed by tourists alike. Fascinating exhibits and many artifacts to see.
Great museum in which you can learn about history of Zagreb, see great old sculptures and gargoiles of Zagreb cathedral. Learn about the beginnings of the city. There are guided tours on weekends on which you can learn even more with great guides, or you can have an audio guide. A really great experience for everyone not only in you are a touris but as a local too!
I visited this museum with the Zagreb card (free access), I was quite sad at first because not so many people visited the museum. If you read closely, they created their historical collection in order. If you have the card and have nothing to do, this place is quite good to visit even only for a quick stay.
A hidden gem in The Upper Town of Zagreb. Excellent exhibits and presented in a very innovative manner. It would have been nice to have some of the rooms preserved in a way that exhibits life in the old convent though. It was, nevertheless, a museum worth the 4 hour visit!!!!
A must visit to understand the rich history, customs , culture and evolution of the beautiful city. I was quite impressed by the dedication of curator and all the staff, a brochure in English and signages guided me.
A very interesting place with a walk through timeline of the history of Croatia.
Zagreb City Museum or Museum of the City of Zagreb was established in 1907.The Museum deals with topics from the cultural, artistic, economic and political history of the city spanning from the prehistory, Roman finds to the modern period. The holdings comprise 75,000 items arranged systematically in a combined chronological and thematic approach into collections of artistic and mundane objects characteristic of the city and its history. Great building, very interesting exhibition concerning Zagrebs past. And there is a good restaurant with places in the courtyard.
