A museum of new media & contemporary art, including video, audio & interactive installations.
ZKM | Center for Art and Media in Eggenstein-Leopoldshafen
Description
Privilege
ZKM thinks themselves Macca of Art, but for whom, only for Germans? I wrote them 2 times in English never got any response back.
MoreAn extremely inspiring place, caring for the past but looking to the future. :)
Massive industrial-Style building with a variety of contemporary & multimedia exhibitions. The interactive videogame exhibition was a blast!
MoreWorth a visit just to see the inside of the building and its adaption for public use. The cafe appeared to provide quality. I would also recommend current GamePlay exhibit very interactive and if your a gamer bring trigger finger.
MoreYou can spend all your day inside.
super!
Great media arts museum with current exhibitions of international artists and a truly impressive renovated building…management is superb except for Corona consciousness, not a single hand sanitation dispenser in the entire building works!
MoreOne of the most interesting museums I have ever visited in my life. Absolutely stunning!
MoreThe game show today certainly brought back a lot of childhood memory. Many cool devices and installations on display to demo AI. Kids just love it.
MoreNice place with several expositions relative to media ans technology. We had a special good experience with VR spot and video game area (retro gaming was pretty cool).Free for children under 14, only 7 for adults. We spent 6 hours without realizing time was running.
MoreExhibit was amazing, made you think. Great way to spend a day.
It was really cool, in some time I will come here again and again
The recognised museum for art and technology. Well curated shows around topics that are relevant in today’s society.
MoreOne of the best exhibition experiences. Visit this place when you have enough time you.
MoreLots of interactive exhibitions. Very engaging stuff!
Modern, fascinating, and intriguing is what I would say use if I was to describe it in 3 words. It took me 2.5 hours to cover the BioMedien section only. It was mainly about connecting biology with artificial intelligence in very unique, artistic ways. Mind-blowing!
MoreMust see the exhibition and the place of research, art ... cultural experience 🥰
MoreReally great place to visit, exhibitions are interesting, lively and interactive
Awesome expositions, they seem to surprise us eveytime! They also have a nice coffee bar
MoreFor sure 1 hr is not enough, amazing expeditions, would love to spend more time here.
MoreIts a beautiful Museum for Art and Media. Well laid out. It was nostalgic to see the black and white televisions and the earlier version of colour TVs and computers. The transition from contemporary art to computer graphics is well explained. The display of hospital beds and blood transfusion pipes in the màin hallway paying tributes to the COVID-19 victims was heart rendering. Theres no entry fee on Fridays hence, its a good day to visit the museum.
MoreThe permanent collection is really something to see! A really interesting and fun afternoon, at least 3 or 4 hours worth of stuff here if you do the temporary exhibitions as well!
MoreA most visit center especially for those who loves art and creative stuff 👌🏼
MoreI love this unique place where art meet science !! I am an art lover and i love how it just makes sense to see it there as it isalways connected to our ordinary behaviors and life! Im not from karlsruhe but every time im there i go to the zkm what every the exhibition they have ! Pretty nice place ! With great content ! Go go !
MoreIt is always a huge pleasure and pure inspiration to visit ZKM. They are absolutely cutting-edge in terms of digital and media art. And you always walk out smarter and with a new view of the world. And of course, the constant exhibition of video games from the 70s to today is cool to hang out and play a bit. A must-visit when you are in Karlsruhe!
MoreThis was a great experience. Both exhibits that I saw. Well organized, engaging, hands-on, and timely. I would go again to see the exact same exhibits, I enjoyed them so much.
MoreLove this place in the centre of Karlsruhe. Interactive exhibits for all the family. We could have easily stayed over 2 hours here. Ive been here several times and it has been worth it every time. My girls (10,13were fascinated by the technology on show and had great fun manipulating the exhibits to produce noises, lights and images. It is not expensive to see the special exhibition (€14,50 for 2 adults, 2 kids). If you are into media art this is the place for you - introduce the kids to a typewriter - but in a clever arty way. The exhibits are described in German and English. ZKM has been labelled the 5th most important media museum in the world. There is a carpark adjacent and good public transport connections.
MoreA cool looking building which gives the exhibitions a cool, different vibe. You could spend hours at the gaming exhibition, no matter your age. The free exhibition is also very fun and interesting, either with friends or your family
MoreGreat museum, regularly rotating exhibitions means that there is always something fresh to see. Well chosen artworks, often blurring the lines with technology, IT and excellent layout with lots of space for the artworks to breath.
MoreVery nice art and museum. Prepare min2-3hours for this place because its quite big. A lot of stuff is interactive, so you can really enjoy it. Mostly modern technologies and their influence in our lives but not only 😉
MoreOne of the best art museums Ive ever been to. Wonderful exhibits, incredible space. So much history, and a really good attempt to bring a massive range of art together that lets you pick and choose what you enjoy.Lots of interactive stuff - the exhibition on videogames was outstanding.
MoreOn arrival, we were a little bit confused about tickets for visiting the exhibitions and where to find the exhibitions, so we ended up needlessly walking the entire length of the building just to be told that we needed to go back and buy a ticket. The space is not well signed and I’m still not sure if it’s a working studio combined with gallery space! But, the exhibit we visited was engaging - though it lacked English language signing and some pieces were not functioning correctly. The lunch option in the cafe was expensive and serving finished at 2pm, so not very flexible. Definitely worthwhile finding out what’s going on at the center before venturing there.
More2nd visit after 5 years, even more impressed. Brought three adults and two kids, the "Negative Space" as well as the gameplay exhibits engaged everyone. Modern, never pretentious, generously spaced rooms present ingenious and original pieces of Art. We really like the static pieces and loved the dynamic and interactive ones. Only regret is that we couldnt spend more time here.
MoreAwesome exhibits and just the coolest gaming museum. A must visit
In my personal top three best art museums visited. So many interactive instillations and huge galleries with ranges of art. An absolute must see!
MoreAlways awesome ,fresh and stimulating exhibitions. Must visit in Karlsruhe for an alternative experience.
MoreAlways a fun place to visit and often exhibitions for free! Current code exhibition is really great and definitely worth a visit.
MoreCool place. Lots of interesting things...exhibitions...I visited the one about code. Computer code. Great location fabulous space...coffee and cake in an old munitions factory. An American guy knrw life German but lots of English speakers were able to put him on the right track. Particularly enjoyed the cake. Parking close by inexpensive...a short walk to the entrance. Calm atmosphere no crowds....I want to stay posted...
MoreFascinating exhibition on artistic usage and social impact of modern technologies. There are street arts in the square outdoor that look even more gorgeous at night.
MoreOne of the most interesting places in Karlsruhe esp. if you have a high affinity for new media, this is a must visit place for Karlsruhe, definitive worth a visit.
MoreOne can find exhibition, activity, cozy place to observe, explore or just be on its own here. Great atmosphere, absolutely fantastic and professionally made landscape. Immediately thought to study here or just visit as often as possible. Love the Marshall McLuhan exhibition very much.
MoreThis is the most odd museum we have been too. It is part art and part technology. Many of the displays are interactive which makes it more engaging however just as art is, the response you get will be how you take it. The place is pretty large with many setups so it will take a good 2 hours to hit up most of the them. We went when it wasnt busy so we did not have to wait. For a unique experience, I recommend coming here.
MoreThe place was ways better a couple of years ago. No there are only a temporary exibition and no museum as such anymore. Some exibitions are free of charge. You can even work/study there at multiple available tables. Fruits and coffee are available free of charge as well.
MoreGreat building and super fascinating exhibition, nice museum shop too
Nice museum of art and media/technology altough there were many empty spaces
One of the coolest and most informative museums i have ever visited... all sorts of cool, funky and artsy futuristic contraptions. The museum focuses mainly on telecommunication technologies, their history, development and future. All of the explanations are in English so you wont have any translation problem. On the 2nd floor is the real hidden gem (in fact you can skip the whole museum just to go to this wing if you are short of time): a must-see and must-play gaming section where they chronicled the history of game consoles. You can play all of the game consoles (yes classic games like the very first mario in old-school nintendo gameboy).... and some newer games they designed specifically for the museum.
MoreThere for a conference dinner. Lovely and beautiful venue. Also visited an exhibition on digital art. Quite cool.
MoreThe "open codes" exhibition was very interesting and fun to explore and also very nice for kids! We spent a couple of hours there and there were still things to explore. And its free!
MoreUnique museum. Super curators, good exhibitions.I always go there when Im around town.
MoreOne of the worlds best museums of media art. The always changing exhibitions make it worthwhile to visit several times per year. Free admission on Friday afternoon and at openings of new exhibitions.
