Rue Yves St Laurent, Marrakech 40000, Morocco, el hed
Cubed, brickwork museum paying homage to Yves Saint Laurent with a café, bookshop & auditorium.
One of my favorite museums . Its always good to visit the staff are so friendly and its always well organized and never too crowded.
We were group but they didnt give a permit to direct pass as like Jardin Majorella. I have no interest to fashion i was curious to YSLs life but couldnt find such a thing. interesting architecture and clothes. İnside the museum shop couldnt find something to English, all books and brochures are French. İn Turkey we sell them French, German, English and Turkish so I was disappointed about it. my visit was about half an hour.
Another tourist trap. They sell to much tickets. How its possible to see anything? See pictures. Stuffy rooms.
Just a beautiful place. But be aware, there is a queue for ticket holders and one to buy tickets.
Very nice place to visit.. Surprisingly small. Not a great place to take young kids as they will be very board. As will 80% of the male population.Incidentally, my wife loved it, 5 stars from her. Beautiful plants and garden and chique fashion museum connected to the life of ysl
The museum is lacking in content. Most of all the film they show right at the end (about YSLs life/workshould be at the beginning of the exhibits it gives so much more context to the exhibits - I fear many people would have missed it on the way out.Pro-tip if you are going to the museum and the gardens get your tickets at the museum entrance (not the garden entrance). I waited ~20 min to buy my tickets at the garden entrance then walked up to the museum where there was another ticket office with no queue whatsoever.
Vaccination life story told through photos and outfits
Amazing place, very organized, offered you the possibility to learn about YSL life, his influence on the fashion until today, a lot of his works, great gardens and much more. Its better to take the combined ticket
It may be awesome if you’re deeply into fashion but that’s not me.Pro tip: The upside here is you can purchase combination tickets to this museum plus the YSL gardens. This allows you to bypass the extremely long ticket purchase like at the gardens. But you still have to wait in the gardens entry line.
An absolutely stunning museum about Fashion Designer Yves Saint Laurent, his life and art. Very educational, made in great style and definitely worth seeing! Highly recommend to get a combo ticket and view the famous Jardin Majorelle gardens too. Undoubtedly the most beautiful places in Marrakesh!
Respected fashion designer YSL.I was inspired by the new museum.I am honoured to be able to pray at his grave to tell him of his past achievements and his good work.I recommend this museum to everyone.
Superb visit, the place is magnificent and the exhibition fabulous if you like YSL. Everything is well explained and a bookstore where you want to buy everything
Interesting exhibit while small. Go earlier or later. Garden Majorelle is nice but underwhelming. Recommend only if Really Interested in YSL.
Museum is two seconds long. Beautiful dresses in one tiny room. They forced us to see maps of Morocco in another? Cafe offerings were delicious with a friendly staff. The garden is lovely but overrun with Instagrammers and Eurotrash. My child got crushed by the bodies of insane tourists trying to catch a pic of a colored wall or a pond. I guess overall it’s something to do in this city before leaving and never coming back.
BUY TICKETS IN ADVANCE - the queues can get quite long and they only have one small hatch for two members of staff to sell tickets on the day. Advanced can skip the queue and walk straight in.Not a fashionista nor do I necessarily feel the need to visit museums when abroad but, this was great. Really good to see recreations of some of YSLs iconic pieces, while getting to take in his journey. Its only the one main room for the YSL part (they make you walk around another room not connected to YSL before heading to see how clothes and historybut they pack a lot into it without it feeling cramped. Very well designed. Also, the gift shop isnt a massively overpriced tourist trap, which makes a nice change.
The museum is excellent but a little small. If you go to Marakesh, this should be added to your list. What I like is the garden attached to the museum.
Iconic architecture and wonderful exhibition.
Beautiful, nice destination in Marrakech!
I am not at all in fashion and stuff, but the skills of YSL impressed me. Beautiful dresses, most of the exhibits being inspired by berber clothing and showing wonderful African colours. Also a nice photo exhibition about YSLs life and entourage.
A must visit place in Marrakesh, to understand Yves Saint Laurent great design on fashion and art. Strongly recommend to buy tickets online to avoid long queue outside.
It is a nice and good looking place but the ticket is a bit expensive I think. As a student, I paid around 50 diram. There isnt too much to see in the museum, some paintings, clothes, after half an hour I am out. However, the museum itself is a piece of art. From the entrance, you will see the iconic logo, and while you enter, you will find yourself in a harmonious circle, and only you will see YSL, its name; it designs to make you take a bit of time to know him while you then get in to see those materials. After visiting, in the exit, there are some tropical plants outside the building, and the museum perfectly fits in the brown context of Marrakesh, the height as well. Also, the toilet style is luxury for me, with a strong perfume. I just found out that it was sponsored and run by a French organisation, haha.I would recommend you visit this museum if you want to see what a nice modern Morrocan would look like; for me, this is a good example.
I didnt love the visit. It felt like visiting your Nanas extensive fashion wardrobe, that has been put on display, becuse your mum misses her. You kind of know that there is a bit of nostalgia there; this dress was the day she won an Oscar, or that one she wore the evening she met Frank Sinatra, etc. All seems important, but none of it you feel glad see, really, in the 10 minutes it takes to check it out.Would anyone genuinely miss it if there had been a spring cleaning? This museum (ahem, fabulous walk-in wardrobe with nanas clothes in itdoes not arm you with the knowledge to answer that question. I mean this with kindness. After the walk through, for which the book selection in the gift shop was TOTALLY the best part about the entire ensemble, I felt that YSL was a connection that didnt really exist, and Marrakesh was really clutching at straws to claim any kind of actual connection to the designer, who maybe visited once or twice, or wrote a poem about his dreams there once. 😀 It turns out there was a connection, but again, the museum doesnt offer any insight. If youre not a major fashion aficionado, I suggest reading up on Wikipedia about the place first, so you dont wish youd just gone to Wikipedia instead (to save time), while youre there. I read the Wikipedia page just now, and it was time better spent than going to the museum, which I just learned is less than 5 years old. 😅 if you love this stuff, youll enjoy being there with like minded people, I suppose.Id never go again.
Very well designed and presented museum and tribute to Yves Saint Laurent, with several different exhibition rooms and a significantly sized cinema showcasing some of the designers work over the years.
The museum architecture is beautiful especially entrance. YSL’s display is nice but not amazing. Very quick to see. The gardens are the impressive part (at least for me)
As I lover of architecture and fashion, the YSL-museum was on my bucketlist for quite some time.It was definitely worth visiting! Loved the brick patterns, gold accents and curved walls. The exhibition is small, but still interesting. I would reccomend viewing the documentery about Saint Laurent in the auditorium.
AVOID going there it’s a tourist trap, its a complete waste of money. Its an exhibition of Moroccan clothing created by a woman who once worked for YSL, hence taking pictures or videos is not permitted they have security everywhere to stop you from doing that, to prevent their scam getting exposed, I paid 220 dirham for both the museum and garden for one person it’s an absolute ripoff. If youre not interested in clothes exhibitions, save your money and time it’s not worth it. And the garden was no different; there was nothing special about it, and I believe Instagrammers were the only ones who gave it so much attention.
Stunning display of dresses and photos of the history of YSL
Beautiful building with a modest collection of images and clothing items.I visited about mid day and didnt have to queue at all to get in.Cafe has a good selection of food with a beautiful view.
Overall, a very underwhelming and incredibly boring experience. The collection itself is very small and the museum consists of a hallway with some pieces by the designer, a small room with sketches, and an auditorium with a short film. The small terrace is quite nice but all in all, a very unexciting place.
Friendly and knowledgeable staff. Stunningly beautiful museum. Amazing exhibitions of YSLs fabulous artwork, photos, and clothes designed by him. I could have lingered there for ages.Gift shop contains so many lovely things, it would be so easy to spend lots of money there....
When I heard there was an Yves Saint Laurent museum in Marrakech I didnt feel the need to go see it, not having a particular interest in fashion. Having said this, I did go in the - because it was so close to Jardin Majorelle - and I was positively surprised. Its a very nice museum Id say, even for those who, like me, are not fans of haute couture.
Incredible gardens that were appreciated by the whole family. The gardens are a must visit when travelling in marrakesh. We booked a private city tour with a tour guide and he said you must arrive early, 9am to beat the queues and the crowds. Dont bother with the museum either, visit a berber village with a guide to get the best experiences. I booked all these through Viator.
A 5 star museum but I gave 4 stars because we had to wait 15 minutes under unbearable noon sun (which felt like an hourin the entrance queue although we bought our tickets online. You can spend 3-4 hours in two museums and the garden. Its a bit pricey (45£ per person for the bundlebut its a once in a lifetime experience so its worth it.
I was really looking forward to seeing the museum but was sadly disappointed. There was little substance and real insight into Yves Saint Laurent. You could probably look at the exhibits in 10-15 minutes and watch the videos in another 10 (but you dont need to go to the museum, just look on YouTube). For English speakers note: Explanations in French but not in English and subtitles on only one video.
An upscale tourist trap. You pay more than U$ 10, for ONE room that has a dozen mannequins with Morocan clothes.and a cafe that sells everything three times more expensive. And its forbidden to take photos, to prevent the fraud from becoming public.
First class excursion to see. Pay for the museum to skip the big lines to feting the park
A nice surprise in Marrakech. Stunning place. Small but very nice. An oasis in Marrakech. Recommended! A must-go
The museum & exhibitions are a stunning tribute to this legendary designer. I came not knowing what to expect, more familiar with the YSL trademark more than the man himself. I was overwhelmed by the displays, the history & complexity of his work. Highly recommend
A must visit if your are ever visiting Merakkech and it’s a place which is well kept calm and serene. If you are a fashion enthusiast never miss to visit the place.Beautiful garden and variety of cactus can be seen.It was created by the French Orientalist artist Jacques Majorelle over almost forty years, starting in 1923, and features a Cubist villa designed by the French architect, Paul Sinoir in the 1930s. The property was the residence of the artist and his wife from 1923 until their divorce in the 1950s. In the 1980s, the property was purchased by the fashion designers, Yves Saint-Laurent and Pierre Bergé who worked to restore it. Today, the garden and villa complex is open to the public. The villa houses the Berber Museum and has recently opened the Yves Saint Laurent Museum.Enjoy your trip !!!
One of the most inspiring place I ever visited. The museum exhibition is great, but you need to understand the real show is within the architecture of the building and the beauty of the space. There is something magical about the calm and serenity you have in the museum.Make sure you enjoy the coffee after or before your visit, they have good cocktail and snacks, perfect to relax before a walk to the centre of town. For a better experience we booked our tickets online.
Nice museum although limited in content. Their cocktails are also not so good, beautiful but waterish
Very nice building and architecture which symbolises a triquot textile. It’s a bit small but nicely done. The bar is also nicely done with a view on the building and some greenery. They should offer some snacks though, there are only drinks available. You can buy tickets online which is recommended.Note that the museum opens at 10am (not 9am as stated here in google).
Very nice and interesting museum that is worth visiting. They have a café and Gift store in case youre interested in buying some unique stuff.
Interesting museum. Second visit. Temporary exhibition by Bert Flint was FAB! Permanent gallery unchanged since opening. Sad that the restaurant was closed...
I loved the museum and the garden , exposition is gorgeous, inspiring to live the life in a beautiful way. It worth it if you love beautiful things and art, unfortunately it’s forbidden to take pictures in the museum, but I’ll keep them in my mind
Very nice & interesting museum. Worth visiting and reading its history. It has a cafe and a souvenir store too. You can also walk next door to visit Jardin Majorelle.
Excellent display of YVES Saint Laurent love for the marroc culture inside his intimate space surrounded by a great garden with pathways, fountains and cozy areas to take some nice pictures. You can see some of YVES drawings and pictures displayed in the place. Crowded so I recommend to buy tickets before going there.
⚫️Absolutely amazing museum and see a glimpse of one of the most legendary designer in fashion.⚫️ Beautiful gardens ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⚫️ Setting the tone with a beautiful cerulean color on the walls in contrast with the beautiful nature from all range of plants and cactuses.⚫️ Beautiful fountains ⛲️ ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⚫️ Amazing floors in checkered pattern in cerulean and tones of earthy green.⚫️ Gorgeous architecture ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⚫️ Just a wonderful day to spend the day. Is a most when visiting Marrakech.
The place is just awesome and its architecture quite interesting! They have a good collection and nicely curated, once you arrive to the museum you can catch a break from the hustle of the medina as its atmosphere is quite calm and relaxing. It is a must if you visit Marrakech.
It’s a must if you fancy haute couture and its Gods. Everything is displayed in a perfect and elegant way and the cost of the ticket is well paid by the experience. It might be interesting also for those people who are not really into fashion, since it is interesting to find out how culture has developed through the years, from the sixties to nowadays.
