24 Waterway Ave, The Woodlands, TX 77380, United States, Conroe
Family-friendly counter-serve spot for Mexican & Latin fusion eats plus more than 75 tequilas.
This place has made us wait for 54 minutes and counting now for our food. It’s tacos! This is the absolute worst dining experience I’ve ever had! The restaurant is nearly empty as well. WTF?!?!?
Poor place, it’s about to go bankrupt. I ordered corn soup, didn’t have, ordered plantains, didn’t have, there were 6 customers during prime time! Table was dirty and sticky, windows were dirty and not up to any standard. Again, this is one of the poorest experience I’ve had in The Woodlands. I can say that one of the guys was super nice trying to explain why this mess. I had to return yuca fries as they were probably fried several times!!
Nasty place. The food is old, stinks, the salsa bubbles and taste like metal. The managers are never around and make excuses for everything. The chips are straight grease. This is a ran down ghetto bar/restaurant on the waterway. Dishes are always dirty. The employees never get paid. They never have change for cash transactions.
This place is amazing I eat here all the time and the staff is amazing I never had an issue with costomer service or the food and Ive been comming here for years. The nachos are amazing they have white cheese omg yummy! The tacos are also good I love the grilled fish and the spicy shrimp if you never been you should try Tuesdays are the best times to come as the tacos are cheap! I give you guys a 10+ for the food and the fast service. Even if its a Mistake cause things happen the cook will come and speak with you personally witch I just loved so much thanks you guys
We ordered the shrimp nachos, empanadas, and yuca fries. We could barely see the shrimp. The queso was cold and they left the purple cabbage off of the appetizer. They brought cabbage and cheese to put on the nachos. This is unacceptable. When managing a food establishment, the manager must make sure that the food is at the right temperature, looks and taste like it should. We will not return.
Terminally overpriced tacos and pretty weak margaritas. I’ve only been to this place a few times-pre and post concerts at CWMP. Nacho plates seem to be what everyone orders though. Still yet to find a good taco spot in this area. Also, there’s always ppl eating nachos with a fork...Damn Woodlands.Update-dropping this down to two.
Yucatan used to be one of my favorite places to grab a taco and a margarita. My last few visits have been sub par and after today I an not sure if I will return.I showed up at 1pm to sit at the bar and watch the astros game. We were not greeted by the lady at the counter and stood in front of her for a few minutes as she was messing with the register and her phone. I finally asked if we could order and she looked at me like she was waiting on us. We ordered the queso/guacamole/salsa and chips and were told that they were still preparing the guacamole and didnt give us our options of what to order. The restaurant opens at 11am, I do not know why guacamole at a taco restaurant isnt available 2 hours after opening. There was only one tv on and employees were sitting at the bar in front of the working tv so we asked for them to turn on another one. Two were broken so we sat at the end of the bar near the exit. The seats were disgusting and the bar was still very wet. We wiped them down and sat.The food was decent, though there were four small shrimp in each of our shrimp tacos. Our margaritas were great but they are now serving in plastic cups. This is probably best as Im not confident in their ability to clean. The utensils were disgusting with residue on them.Yucatan had been open for two hours and had very few people in there. I went to the restroom and the trash was full of paper towels, even though I went to grab some and the dispenser was empty. The floor and sink was very dirty and the toilet paper was on the handicap bar and not in the very empty dispenser.Im very disappointed in my visit today and Im not sure I will give them another chance.
Well, sad to say, this place has gone downhill. It used to be a family favorite. Now they give you a menu that you can only order from one side. My daughter wanted brunch on Sunday at 1:00. Nope, not serving brunch even though it’s on the menu. Had to order food from one place and go to the bar for a margarita. The girl taking the food order seemed to be wholly irritated that we were bothering her with an order...you know the look...I’m too cool to be here attitude. To management: if the first person you have your customers interact with is grouchy or off-putting, the experience isn’t going to recover. Next, the silverware was covered in white residue so badly that my kid thought it was gross and I had to clean the forks and knives while waiting for the food. Chairs and signs were stacked up by the windows, salt shakers weren’t put out, hot sauce was also stacked up on one table. Now, I was just told that they are out of the yucca fries.... it just feels like a bar that hasn’t been cleaned up from the night before but they are still serving food. New management is trying but this is bad. Oh, to boot, they can’t even validate the parking for the garage with which it shares a building. Only the garage in another building. Seriously?? If it makes it, maybe we will try it again in another year or two.
Update 7-6-19Service was poor. Attention to detail was poor. Our server brought our food. Missing places, silverwear and napkins. The jalapenos that were to be on the side, were missing. The two sauces that came with the dish, both missing. When we asked for them, it was like we were an inconvenience to her. Messy tables while the 4 workers (one seemed to be the managersat in the corner near the kitchen door, spent time looking at phones. The bartender was busy and ran a clean zone. Our table was also sticky and my daughters cup had lipstick on it. She is 10 and was not wearing any lip gloss. The last time we eat here. My last review was the last time we came here. Solution: get rid of the manager that cannot manage the people to do a good job and represent the company image better. What a disappointment for this area.***Original postPlenty of staff to clean tables with only 2 tables being used by patrons. 5+ employees and a bartender and they just walked around the dirty tables. This was both inside and outside. Lazy management and employees is reflected in the food quality. This was not as good as in the past. Food was average this time and they were out of a few items on the menu.
We were the only puddle there and they still managed to mess up the order. The food wasnt anything to writ home about and the restaurant was quite dirty. There was no salsa, and the staff doesnt care, and lets you know it. Did I mention the restaurant was SUPER DIRTY? Everybody standing around with tables not busted, and no management in sight. Go eat a taco truck near by, at least youll get good food.
I just tried this place for the first time and so far, so good. The nachos come in a giant size, perfect for sharing. If a decently strong margarita is what you are in search of, search no more. I saw them mixing a fresh batch of margaritas and it looked to be a good ratio of tequila. They taste good too. I like tacos I had (shrimp and pork). They werent mind blowing but definitely not a waste of money either.
This place used to have awesome food, great drinks and excellent service. Not sure if they are under new management but we hadnt been in about a year and when we ate there it was terrible. I ordered shrimp tacos and got chicken. All the food was cold and the drinks were WEAK. Also, you used to be able to order your drinks when you ordered your food. The girl taking our order said "Im not taking your drink order, you have to go to the bar for that."Really miss the old taco stand!
The definition of average. The wait was a bit longer than I had expected, and definitely longer than what you would wait at similar Mexican restaurants. The first bites of my chicken burrito were tasty, but after that, it wasn’t very enjoyable and I noticed the chicken was quite dry. I am glad though that the chicken wasn’t too sour, since it was called lime-something chicken. Good location.
Good service and good food. Would definitely come back. Great salsa, the beef and pork were tender and flavorful and the margaritas were good also. Maybe they changed a few things to improve? I’m pretty picky and we enjoyed everything we tasted. We have a 2 year old and the patio is kid and dog friendly too.Edit: I really have nothing good to say about this place anymore. It used to be pretty good but has gone down in quality quickly. The food has been awful the last two times I’ve been there and the margaritas terrible too. I won’t be going back to this place. It’s a shame because it has potential but it is terrible now.
Ordered 2 tacos and a beer, was rudely told to order the beer at the bar, no problem but could use less attitude. Sit down with friends, they bring me one taco, tell the waiter who said Ill get that right away, didnt see him again for the rest of the night. Used to be good but service has dropped significantly.
Nachos took almost an hour to come out. Asked if they had our order and waiter said “What did you have?” Told him we had the pork nachos and he said “Okay I’ll bring some right out.” Never happened though as someone else brought them out 20 min later. $14 and they came out with a few pieces of pork on top, a lot of chips and some shredded cheese. Margaritas were good.
This place USED to be great! Went there with my wife last night for there infamous nachos and was surprisingly let down! I think taco bell could of served better nachos for a waay cheaper price😣😣😣. Somethings going on with them it seemed like the staff was disorganized and you could only order from half the menu smh. The excellence wasnt like it use to be
Absolutely horrible experience. Piss poor customer service. The restaurant is run down and filthy. They ran out of plantain chips and did not inform us or try to refund or substitute something else. I waited for 20 minutes AFTER the rest of my party received their food before mine came out AND it was prepared incorrectly. We ordered gluten free chips for someone with celiac disease and they never came. None of us will ever return.
I usually like this place but evidently it’s been mismanaged. Came on a Saturday for lunch and despite it being almost empty they were out of plantains and corn (how??). Chips came out incredibly stale. Drinks took 20 min, weren’t very good. Had to ask for everything (plates, silverwareand the server told us the silverware was inside and to go get it ourselves. Place was dirty - flies in bathroom, kitchen could be seen from the restaurant and was gross. No one seemed to care about presenting a good image. Will not be back
Have only been twice. Probably wont return even though I heard good things about the place originally. The chips tasted burnt with a horrid after taste. I offered the person who served me to taste the chips themselves and they refused. It took us 45 minutes to get two drinks from the bar during happy hour (barely anyone even here), had to go complain to get my drinks. Tacos couldnt save this review. They should replace this place with a torchies.
The shredded beef and garlic tacos were as awesome as ever, absolutely incredible. The wait to get them was not so awesome. Had we been told there would be a wait for the food the experience would have been different. In their defense after my wife spoke with the manager we were given a gift card for our next visit.Considering that it was a Friday evening they really were not busy, no more than 50% occupied. There was 1 large party, 8 - 10, that ordered a ton of nachos. Other than that a normal crowd on the small side. We waited 40 minutes to get 4 tacos. It is very good but I am not sure its worth that kind of wait.
Food was amazing. Service is low just like everyone else says. Come on y’all the food is amazing you have half the equation right. Fix your service and your margarita machine and you guys will be poppin. So much potential in this restaurant. Time for management to capitalize on it. Frozen margarita was sweet and sour only, couldn’t taste the alcohol. I truly hope upper management are reading these reviews. Also you blonde girl working was awesome. She was running around doing everything while everyone else seemed to be useless.
Not a very good first impression from me. We had no one come take our order for a good while. Ordered our own drinks from the bar, which were made differently depending on which bartender you got. We waited over an hour and a half for our food, then requested it to go, because we had somewhere to be and thought it would obviously take less time.Bad first impression, will probably not return. I regret even paying the bill, because they didnt deserve it. I also feel bad, because Im not one to complain or leave bad reviews, but they need to internally look at whats going on.
Great tacos for a good price. Service is usually really fast, but this time is was rather slow and it was not busy at all. They try to make it feel like a club with the music selection. I guess thats the crowd they are trying to attract. House margarita is decent, but nothing to write home about. I recommend getting a floater with your marg ($3 more). The garlic shredded beef and tequila lime shrimp tacos are where its at.
Always order the nachos which are OUTSTANDING! We always share (2 adults& theres always some left to take home. The staff is awesome & you can either dine in or out on the patio where theres live music. Drinks are a hit too! Love everything about this place except that theres only 1 toilet. Hence a line at the womens bathroom. Also, this place is literally located across the street from The Woodlands water walk trail. Which is beautiful & peaceful! There are also many other establishments within walking distance including nightclubs, shopping, movie theater & other eateries.
Went here with family, plus a child, and had a really nice time. Better than expected for a layed back taco place. Had the paleo bowl with fish and was delicious. We all thought the food tasted super good for a regular quick restaurant. Waiter was super down to earth-fun-and courteous, tap beer was great, and cocktail varieties are awesome- for a great price. Served in a very timely manner too. Loved this relaxed place and would go again
Arrived just before 6 still did not have food by 7:21 (we ordered quickly). Menu said margaritas were on special happy hour prices all day Sundays but waiter refused to honor prices upon check out stating they need to update the menus. Sorry but a business run this way should not exist.
This place used to be good! One of my favorite spots on the waterway to just hangout, that is when they took your order at the front, like a taco stand (that’s the name after all). Now that they’re “full service” the place is a nightmare. I do NOT recommend it. They do not know how to do full service. Where do i start?- server took forever to do anything- food took 45 min, checks took 30 min, we spent 2+ hrs there total we wanted to spend only an hour- server poured us sparkling water when that is not what we asked for- gas station bathrooms for a large “full service” restaurant on the waterway is NOT adequatePlease switch back to ordering at the counterWhat do i like?- the sauce!- the food- atmosphere- the margs- most affordable place on the waterway
We have always loved Yucatan Taco Stand and have visited countless times over the years. Boy how times have changed.Me, my wife, and son went to eat there today and they have changed to full service sit down. I thought that was pretty cool, so we sat down, and then things went badly. We ordered our food and it after almost an hour had to get up and leave. The only thing they could get us is our drinks and chips/salsa. Every other table in the restaurant looked very upset also, and we spoke with some other guests, who like us, had not visited in a while. They were amazed at what was occurring.Fortunately the waiter did not make me pay for my iced tea; and he shouldnt have because I had to go refill it myself every time. The wait staff never came by to check on us nor did a manager make the rounds to speak with the customers. Will never return and I recommend you try somewhere else. I cant imaging what the food actually tastes like if we were to get it, kinda scary.
Good food if you get the right thing. The chicken is really bland but so far everything else weve tried has been good. The nachos are incredible and huge!! Definitely shareable.Fair warning though: they have started charging a 4% "service fee" if you pay with a card instead of cash.
Their food is delicious. The day we went they were pretty much out of every beer we tried to order. It wouldve been better if they crossed out what was sold out from their chalk board. There was also a point where we couldnt find our waitress, so we had to go to the bar and order our drinks. When the waitress saw us, she said "you shouldve told me!" Only problem with that was she never checked up on us to even ask.
Used to be a great place! Went there last night, ordered the same things we usually order and everything was not only different than what it used to be, it was horrible! Yucca was not good... it wasn’t serve with the yucca sauce they used to serve with. They claim they didn’t have it. The ground beef nachos had “maybe” 1 table spoon of ground beef. The quesadillas were soggy and very greasy! Not ever going back! $70 in the garbage.
So, one thought pops into my mind when I reflect on Taco Stand: What the hell happened? When my wife and I first moved to The Woodlands, we absolutely fell in love with this place. Great outdoor setting, fast service and very good, consistently made food. Sure, more of a drinks place. But pretty damn good tacos.Three years later, this place is a disaster. Clearly there has been an ownership or management (and if that, owner you have FAILEDchange that has led to probably the biggest downfall I have ever seen in a restaurant in a matter of just months. Let’s start as we walk through the door. The smell walking in is wretched! Dirty dish water or something. Might be the bar (or employee hangout), or worse the kitchen. Then you reach the register. Two things you draw your eyes to:1.The back counter and kitchen. Both as filthy as I have ever seen in Houston. Back counter is covered with old food, clearly not wiped down in days. The view of the kitchen would piss Gordon Ramsey off. Thick grease on the back wall and range vent hood.2.4% credit card charge. W.T.F. Really? You get a “cash incentive” for helping them avoid a decades old cost of business. Just about the biggest flip off over, especially given the state of the restaurant.Next, let’s talk about the service. A year, or even months ago, you order and you get your food without asking 20 minutes later about the status of your food. 2017...you order chips and salsa, and five minutes later you get them. 2018...20 minutes and you have to ask. Most of the wait staff was 100% turned over months ago. This group could not care less about busing tables, making eye contact or even bothering to check if orders are up. This past Sunday I watch our food sit on the service window for over 10 minutes as the employee, also serving on the cook line, came out to take orders as 3 other employees vanished or sat in bar chairs chatting. When our food did come, the taco shells were all soaked through and that freshness we had come to love was gone. Now the worst part. The whole restaurant wallows in filth. Floors are sticky, cobwebs handing above tables, drink machines with large layers of dust handing off the back, utensil and napkin holders with food and drink spills all around, and multiple tables not cleared...all with employees (not all, but the majoritythat could be taking care of their restaurant with pride but instead taking advantage of no management present.I miss the Taco Stand that we went to. Lots a good memories and many years of consistently great food and service. Gone. Now I guess it’s great to sit outside and order drinks. It will have a place for those who want to hang after work or pre-game before a concert. But as a restaurant we are done, and that is sad, because it didn’t have to be this way.Whomever runs the establishment now, please find someone who cares and sell. Please.
Love this place. Took my son here for the first time - he got a burrito & ate half of my nachos - & ge really liked it. They have an unusual melted cheese called Melted Chihuahua Cheese (cheese from Chihuahua, Mexico - I looked the name of the cheese up on their menu online& it is really good. I usually get their vegetarian nachos, which is a heaping pile of chips loaded (loaded!with Melted Chihuahua Cheese, guacamole, sour cream, grilled & julienned veggies and just tons of other stuff (Ive uploaded a photo here of the list of toppings). They have a neat menu because you can order everything just like you want it - its almost like you tell them how to make your plate. And they have covered outdoor seating (with heaters for the winter & fans for the rest of the year). Kinda pricey, but great food! Oh, and the parking isnt great - you have to park in a parking garage but they will validate your parking if you ask the person at the bar. This place is not recommended for quick meals. Plan on at least 90 minutes.
I have deep sympathy for the residence of The Woodlands that find this taco place exceptional. The queso tasted like it was cooked with dishwater, strange aftertaste. The tacos were bland. "Ground sirloin" is a fancy way of saying ground beef... Disappointing! The fish taco had an unusual cream sauce added to it. Overall: poor quality food and high markup. The meal was worse than Freebirds and cost 30% more.
This bar has great tasting food but it pricey. The outdoor lounge-like setting is very relaxing yet full of energy and excitement. A great view of the waterway. The staff wasnt quite knowledgeable about the menu. Overall the experience was good.
I used to come here quite often. My last visit was terrible. Food order took 30+ minutes. My beer and my wifes margarita took over 20. Then the food was wrong. Carried it back and the employee tried to take it to the cook, the manager (who took my orderyelled at him and told him to leave it, that he would handle it.The chips on our nachos were really bad... like really old dirty fryer oil bad. I remember how it was when Paul managed this place. Sad to see it going downhill.
Have been coming here for years, and I cant remember a time I was disappointed. Great food, unique selection of items. Atmosphere is on point with an outdoor patio that only can be described best as a Woodlands vibe with urban appeal inside the feel of a quaint energized city. Somehow this sweetens the taste of everything, especially the tempura shrimp and pulled pork tacos.
Great place. Havent tried the food, but the drinks are good. No qualms.
This place looks awesome from the outside but after sitting at the bar and watching the unsanitary practices of making their drinks, no thanks. Their shakers are covered in orange tape, no way to clean... and they nest the shaker parts inside each other. No washing between uses. Besides cleanliness, this place has rude unhappy employees and bland food. Huge hot sauce bottles are on every table to make up for the tacos that have no flavor.2 stars for Convenient location only.
I used to love this place. I went with a friend last night on a Saturday. It wasnt even packed, very slow for a weekend. The tacos took a while to come out but the worst part was the bar. My friend went to order two drinks and upon finally getting service, the bar tender walked away to text on his phone and then came back to make the drinks. What we got in return was not what we ordered and had waited 25 minutes for two menu items. It was very disappointing to take a friend and talk a big game about a place that underserved. 😕
Being from New York, didnt understand the process. Expect to get seated and served. At this place you have to place order and then find your own seat. You need to pay tip before getting served. I only left $1 tip on order, expecting to leave tip at table. As a result, they did not bring my appetizer. Maybe it was a mistake, but I suspect intentional. Since no service, if you want drinks need to go stand at bar and wait for bartender to serve you. He was not too friendly. Food was good though, even though I didnt get everything I paid for.
Phenomenal restaurant with fast friendly service, extensive drink menu, and excellent happy hour specials. Great outdoor seating with live music on Friday evenings. Prices are reasonable. Only $13 for chips, two types of salsa, beans, rice, and three enchiladas. Parking can be troublesome considering its Market Street but the area is lovely to walk. A must try if in The Woodlands.
I was very surprised how rude the bartender was. I asked for two drinks and appetizers. She openly ignored me. She refused to make eye contact. When I left the bar and seated myself she then came over to the table and proceeded to tell me she couldnt understand me. Im very disappointed for my first visit to this restaurant. It seems as though none of the staff cares about the customers. At least for myself and my guest. This is my first visit to this location and you can rest assured this will be my last visit. I will not waste my hard-earned money at a restaurant where the staff refuses to respect me.
The best nachos Ive ever had! And the location is amazing, with great views and cozy outdoor seating.
Saturday night not that many people around the bar and it took them 10 minutes to get our drink order. We waited for bartender to take our food order for 40 minutes, finally got tired of waiting and got up and ordered at the register, THEN the food took another 30 minutes to arrive. The cherry on top? Even when my date and I both ordered different food, we were both sick to our stomachs from it!!!!Will definitely NOT return.Pricey too. $50+ meal for two where all we ate were tacos and a paleo bowl???!!!!Only the drinks were worth it.
Overall experience was mediocre.Pros: Beer was good, location was good.Cons: For the price of the food, it was way over priced for the quality. Tacos were jam packed with too many vegetables making them look fuller. I paid 30 dollars for four tacos and two coronas. Not worth it in my mind. Also, another order and sit down place which is horrible when it comes to customer service.Wont be returning.
Its an order and sit down place. Waiters/staff rarely walk around to see if you need anything. Youll probably have to go to the bar to order another drink. However, the frozen margaritas are good and strong! Tacos are good, but not the best.
The best thing about this restaurant is the location and ambiance as its right on the Waterway. Came here on a Tuesday night and had their $2 tacos and appetizer with queso, guacamole and salsa. They also had live music which was nice. They have heaters for the outside dining tables but a few didnt even work. The tacos werent that great and had no flavor. We literally had to drown our tacos in their "popular" hot sauce which is supposed to be at each table according to their menu. But it wasnt. I had to go hunt for some. The sauce also wasnt that great. It actually tasted like the sauce in taco bell packets. Yeah, not special at all. Also as the title says, this is a taco stand so you order and pay at the cashier. Then you sit at your table and they bring it out. So be prepared to not have a waiter that will bring napkins, refills, sauce etc.
With a name like Yucatan Taco Stand, one of the things I would expect to be great is the TACOS. This was definitely not the case. First you have to order at the counter, get a number and find your own seat. For something as simple as tacos, it takes a long time! I ordered the fried fish and pork tacos. I would like to comment on the taste of the filling, but it was hard to find through all the lettuce on top. It took a good two bites before I actually found the meat! Also, at almost $4 a taco, it was definitely not worth it.The tequila bar part of the restaurant seemed to be better, Great assortment of tequilas and margaritas to choose from and a great outdoor patio in which to enjoy your drink. Unlike the food side, the bartenders work hard to get your drink out as soon as possible. I tried the Coconut Margarita and it was excellent! I really enjoyed the flakes of fresh coconut on top. As for the tacos, next time Ill stay home and make my own.
