Υπαίθριο Μουσείο Υδροκίνησης - Heritage museum in Pyrgos, Greece
Brilliant
Great museum that everyone should visit. You can really see the history of Arkadia.
Very interesting regarding water use and relevance for life has a all, human and nature.
Just excellent. So well maintained and full of amazing explanation in particular about tanning. Such a wanderful experience
Nothing much to see. Something for school kids.
Magnificent sight, nice place to visit and the people there are very pleasant to have them guide you around.
Great little museum with a secret history!
This area is amazing!Everybody can admire the nature and how the people used the power of water in the pastAll staff are very friendly and gave us a lot of useful informationThank you very much.
This little perfectly proportioned museum is really punching above it’s weight. It’s informative with demonstrations, videos and sign boards - it gives a really good insight into the times of the past and village life. After travelling for a few months I thought we might be museum weary - this was a refreshing change and highly recommend it.
Lovely seeing and fascinating insight into not just water power but the tanning and gunpowder industries.
Very interesting historical open air museum. Usage of kinetic water energy throughout the ages is clearly and vividly explained, also in English. The tannery and mill are terrific to see.
Magical place that brings you close to tradition. Give it some time and you will travel in our past. The staff there is very friendly.
Great to place to visit near Dimitsana. Only 1.5km from the Center of the village. Opt for walking versus driving your car as the traffic near dimitsana can be hectic during the winter months.
Great place to see how the power of the water was used in the economy in the past. The buildings are well preserved and the people working there are very helpful and eagar to answer questions and show how things worked. Really worth the visit!
What a lovely experience! The place had information boards as well as detailed videos and interactive displays! Found out so many things about the preindustrial use of water in Greece, tanning as well as the making of gunpowder, both arts that have now been replaced by machines. It was also interesting to find out that Dimitsana was the gunpowder centre of the 1821 revolution.
After four hours of hiking following the signs to the museum it ends up in a dead end at the back door of the museum. An unfriendly guy behind the door tells you that you have to make a detour of half an hour and another hundred meters of high because this is the wrong door. Sorry guys, thats way to unfriendly
Nice museum to see how the hydrokinesis was working years ago. They apply all covid measurement and you feel safe exploring the areas. Entrance fee is 4€ that is normal. If you are close it worth visiting
A small but very interesting museum located in a lovely place
This is one of the most interesting museums, that I have ever seen. Combined with Dimitsana that is of of the most incredible villages in the Greek mountains makes it a stop that you HAVE to do. Here you will see how the water helped in the different factories, to clean the wool with the water pressure, or the used that they made for the leather industry, or how they made tsipouro (Greek grappaor the unbelievably interesting gun power mill... I mean, first time I saw a place and the technique that they used to make the gun power. In many stands you will find also explanatory videos. I give 5 stars!!!!!
Expected more... nice exhibitions but pretty outdated, small area on a hill with many stairs - not good if you have walking problems. Unless you are really into water and gun powder - not a must.
It is OK just to do something different from time to time
A very nice museum! And even though we were the only people inside (off-season), the staff still gave us a demonstration of the gun powder mill.
Simple yet informative, nice stone buildings and surrounding area.
When checking out the sightseeing options in the area, this stood out as #1 and for good reason. Surprisingly well designed and organized, it gives a very good insight on the various ways people put the power of water to use. Weak point: the personnel; with the exception of the lady in the ticket box, the few others seemed to be bored out of their minds avoiding us at all cost. Not welcoming at all! Its a good thing that the items on display - however big or small - are framed with signs, pictures and video displays so you dont really need any help getting around.
Arguably one of the most interesting museums in Greece in a magnificent location.
Its a nice informative walk in the past of Dimitsana. Its great for kids. The entrance fee is 4€ normal and 2€ reduced
Impressive, unique museum. Excellent presentation of the pre industrial societies crafts! Must pay a visit!
Was very interesting to see how gun powder was produced and the impact on Greek history
A pleasant little open-air museum in a beautiful location. Some interesting displays and demonstrations about water power and its historic uses. Not an all-day experience, about 90 mins will do it if you include a coffee. Entry fee 4E for adults (kids free).
It’s very different than most museums, it’s sort of open and local, staff are humble and nice. Coffee was great too.
Well worth a visit, educational and easily accessible for all ages.
We went there due to the great recommendations but got disappointed. Half of the demonstrations do not function. No one to give explanations. Lack of information in English. The positive part is the marvelous views and walking tracks thatpasses by the Water Museum - they have their own value to justify coming to Dimitsana.
Lot of history here. It is worth visiting and learning it all.
Excellent open air museum. Must visit if you are around.
Greek history. Nicely maintained and friendly staff...
We spent a whole morning at this lovely museum. It has some great video resources along with working water powered machinery . Some of it will be difficult to access with limited mobility as there are quite a few steps to see all the exhibits . There is also a cafe and gift shop and plenty of Campervan parking during the month of early June. Well worth a visit
A magical trail near Stemnitsa and Dimitsana in Greece. With the right equipment and supplies you be able to go through three different paths. If you are a person who loves that kind of hobbie is worth of visit. I hope my photos will give some ideas how the path is and what you can see through the trail. Kind regards George.
Unforgetable. One of the best open-air museum.Interesting gift shop.
Excellent for families, pet friendly, ideal for 4+ toddlers (younger ages will have fun too but will also get tired easily). Must see when in the area :)
The place is an open-museum with some awesome features. One of them was that is well organised and is a great place to take some photos. The only dissapointment was the quality of the video. But in conclusion is an interesting place that you can learn many things about water power.
Excellent place to visit. Great, very educational museum and in low ticket price. Must visit if you are around, specialy with kids. Its like an old, traditional village.
Was a beautiful area next to the church where you can also drink from the super fresh water stream coming directly from the mountain
Very interesting for the ones that they want to know more about Greece traditional customs. If you go there watch the movies also
Place of great interest and historical importance. Definitely a go to place. With really helpfull people and maintenance.
Nice place but you should go only if you have 1 hour free.
Great overview of the importance of water power in the area covering the tanning of leather to the manufacturing of gunpowder. Really well laid out
A must see place. You will be confused to wonder to the mill or to nature.
Great museum! It was quite when we visited in late September. Really enjoyed learning about the leather and gun powder making at this location in the past and the reginal history which I had no idea about.
Definitely recommend for everyone. For all ages and people around the world. A very historical place of Greek history of 1821. The entrance price it is very reasonable. And free entrance for students
Great place. Nice people showing how every thing operates. Fun for kids and the whole family. Defiantly a place to get to while in the area
