Japanese kitchen entrees & sushi offered in smart, compact quarters with bar seats & a casual vibe.
Great place for lunch. Friendly staff and the Bento box 🍱 is a must.
after a long day in the car, with my stomach rumbling this was not a good place to go to. Both the drinks and food did not look appetising and the taste was the same. Maccas wouldve tasted better. The most humbling experience my tastebuds have been through. never again, dont waste your money.
Was excited to try it due to 4 star rating in google reviews. Terribly disappointed with the food. Weve been to dozens of Japanese restaurants and takeaways. Never have we ever encountered something as terrible as this. Macha latte tastes like watered down milk with fake matcha powder. And it took ages for them to prepare it given it was just us who ordered boba drinks. A fish bone got stuck between my teeth from the Una Don we ordered. The Teriyaki chicken was way salty and rise soooo soggy. We were just so hungry around the time and forced ourselves to eat it. My teens who were never been picky since birth were so disappointed. Threw out the matcha latte as soon as we were out. I could still see the disgusted look unto their faces as they were trying to eat the food. They are not usually the ones to complain and they are taught to be polite and not say anything bad about anything. So they ate it down politely. And silently commented outside Youkis. I couldnt agree more. Please double check the quality of food you serve especially the rice dishes and boba drinks.
We couldn’t even eat what we bought, the worst Japanese food experience. hair in the food. Really unpleasant and disgusting. We bought 2 Ramen and teriyaki chicken udon
Never open but great food
No tables inside at all and not allowed to eat their own food inside the restaurant. This experience ruined my day. Service is on the lower side and food just so so. Try to avoid if you don’t like getting shouted at your kids.
Bad food long wait, I’ve never had bad Japanese until today, waited in a small store with no seats for over cooked pork that was just putrid in ramen that I couldn’t even eat the overcooked noodles in because the broth was horrid. Fried chicken was average oknomiyaki was bad udon and katsu don both barely took a bite out of, 1/10 literally threw the food in the bin.Bubble tea might have saved it but when we asked about it they said no tea today bye.The only good thing that came out of it was the ramune that when I opened exploded all over me, and that was the best part being covered in soft drink.
great sushi, very tasty and always fresh.
Grabbed takeaway Curry Don and Katsu Don during a busy lunch period. Fortunately our food was ready fairly quickly. The meals were filling but didnt quite have the Japanese flavours we were hoping for. They had tasty looking pre-made sashimi and handroll selections which seemed to be very popular.
You can buy Japanese Beer with your order...love it !
Giving 5 stars just on a bubble tea! I was so happy to find a bubble tea shop here, their Brown Sugar bubble tea was delish! I’ll be back 😊💕
A good joint but very busy though! No sitting available even now (after all the restaurants have opened up post Covid). Overall a good experience with the food but with slow service.
Their crab claw is tasty. We didn’t wait that long to get our food. Was very excited for the matcha drink, but was kind of let down. The powder wasn’t that mixed well as I gulped a chunk of it down my throat. Could’ve made in a rush as it was a busy time.Might give it another go next time or might try another drink.
Love the food. Efficient staff and super clean premises. Best Japanese cuisine. 👌
Definitely not Fresh/Made daily. My son got your sushi for school lunch,.. The Terryaki chicken was so dry I was Very dissapointed I threw it in the bin. Shame you serve this to school kids, 😕
We tried the katsu don, bento box, gyu don, and tantanmen ramen and were pretty disappointed. The katsudon chicken tasted like it was processed and had been frozen, the tantanmen was really salty and the gyudons supposed scotch fillet steak tasted like monotonous pork. The overall flavours were bland and didnt taste very Japanese.
Youkis has very authentic Japanese sushi, sashimi, seaweed salad, etc. Its delicious, but remember to ask for soy sauce, wasabi and ginger as it is not included automatically in their various packs.
Okay western sushi with a nice fish to rice ratio. No nigiri or sashimi
Customer service was appalling. Very rude staff or it may have been the owner I’m not sure. She approached us and said ‘are you finished’ and basically wanted us to leave as there was other customers. There is the right way and the wrong way to ask a customer to have a table back and you picked the wrong way.Next time, pick the right way
Selection of sushi is great. We had gyoza and chicken teriyaki and the food was precooked and tasted it. They put the gyoza into the microwave as soon as we ordered it. Not great...2 stars given for microwaving the food theyre serving their patrons.
Friendly staf but not a lot of food instead of making and serving food to there customers, until closing time, they were only interested in closing at 4pm and selling what was left. For a restaurant this is not very good service. And I would not recoment them at all, we ended up going to a department restaurant, as we were not interested in eeting there leftovers.
Great Japanese food! Excellent serves, fresh food, very fair price. Friendly staff in an informal setting. I go there with friends regularly and we are never disappointed.
Lacks crispiness in taste and presentation to be considered authentic Japanese. People walk in, sit down and not knowing why no one is serving. Order at the counter only but this is not clearly indicated. Bland service and decor. Will delight some who are desperate for sushi but not seasoned foodies!
Friendly staff, good food and they have service tap water.
delicious and reasonable price , we came twice.
Youkis is a reliable place for lunch with the family. Its one of the few places on the island where we can all find something we love. The little kids have their sushi rolls, the older kids have their ramen noodles and the adults have their rice dishes. Its centrally located, everything is fresh and tasty and its always open when we need it.
Great portion with a fair price! I’d say this is one of the best restaurants I’ve been to in Kangastralia. You can’t miss their hand rolls! They are the besttttt!!!!! I recommended their salmon California hand roll with wasabi ;The takoyaki is a bit tasteless though, hopefully they can improve that part.
Youki’s, is the first Authentic Japanese restaurant on the island.Go for a quick snack or a decent lunch. A wide variety of meat and vegetarian dishes. My family have dined there on numerous occasions, and love it every time.Food comes out promptly and I like getting my fix of the very fizzy Japanese Ramune soft drink, which I secretly share with my adorable niece. My younger niece, when ask where to eat, always says “sushi”. And we are happy to oblige.Staff are friendly and even found my keys that I lost, kept it safe for my return.Whilst many will opt for standard fish and chips, Italian or pizza on the island, Youki’s is a refreshing change, one you don’t feel bloated afterwards. They also have a great range of sushi rolls that are an excellent appetiser before you get you get your hearty bento box, Japanese curry or one of a myriad of delicious rice or noodle dishes
A lovely small Japanese shop - not too many options but will definitely suit if you want to go for casual. We ordered curry, sushi, and noodles theyre all nice I would recommend.
Had sushi here previously, nothing special and more dear than most sushi places. Had ramen and the beef udon today, extremely salty broths, looks good but sadly it was very average, I would not recommend this place. Its not bad, but it aint good.
I was craving some Japanese cuisine and Youkis delivered all the goods! We had the beef us on and the ramen and broths within each of the dishes were very delicious and flavourful. The staff were super friendly the overall atmosphere of the Cafe was homey and comfortable. Had some warm sake too, I highly recommend it 😁😁🍶🍶
We grabbed 2 main meals, miso soup and gyoza with a large california salmon roll for $30. You couldnt get this quality for the price in Sydney. The owner is actually Japanese which is a nice change. Lovely staff and good serving size. Would come here again. Food was delicious!
Ordered Chicken Teriyaki, Vegetarian Curry, Sushi rolls and fried pork gyoza - some of the worst tasting Japanese food we’ve had. The chicken was dry (not sure how that happens in Teriyakiand the teriyaki sauce was not good. My son had the sushi roll, he loves a teriyaki chicken sushi roll. He took one bite and said ‘this isn’t a chicken teriyaki roll’ and didn’t eat the rest. My wife had the veggie curry - a couple carrots and rice, not really veggies. The dumplings were pretty good. Overall, we won’t ever go back there.
The dishes looked nice and tasty. But taste was bad. Very disappointed.
Not so friendly service. They were still open but could only give us sushi as the kitchen was closed. Fair enough as it was 1 hour before the whole shop closed but to top it off we weren’t even allowed to sit inside to eat the food.We ended up going elsewhere as we didn’t want to give them our business.I don’t think they were even Japanese even though it says authentic Japanese food.
Food is good in consideration that this is at Cowes. Friendly and fast service. Pricing is reasonable. Food serve is generous enough to fill a starving stomach. Recommended.
Frequent customers. Slightly disappointed today. Sushi was served in paper bag rather than tray making it hard to eat and dress with garnish . Had to pay 5 cents for soy sauce. It was normally provided for free.
one of the front lady was very rude, and have an attitude. We walked in for a late lunch, no one was entertaining us. The place was almost empty and so we decided to go straight to the tables and help ourselves with the seats. Since we have a baby in our group, we were trying to get the baby to the baby seat and were kind of in the way, then the lady went to our table and looked at us with an angry face and said "Excuse me loudly". We all felt embarrassed and left the restaurant straight away. Bad customer service.
Food really didn’t taste good. All from frozen and badly cooked (over and under).Staff were friendly though.
I never knew the microwave was such an essential aspect of authentic Japanese food. My table ordered 5 different things and everything was microwaved and barely edible. Curry tasted like it was out of a tin, the veg was over cooked, the chicken was soggy and chewy. The only ok thing was the gyozo and Im sure thats because it was straight from the supermarket (even that was microwaved and worse then it could have been).
Reasonable Japanese style food, quick and casual dining. Ordering on a busy day is frantic and could be done better. A good menu variety and some gluten free options available. Licensed restaurant, offering Japanese beer and sakè.
Not really the greatest Japanese food, but great enough if you want a change in taste from the usual sandwich and fish n chips.Wanted to order the sushi platter but they require us to place the order 24hours in advance. The Tantanmen is best of the menu.Service is not the best. Waitresses are not rude, but they dont smile either.
This is THE best sushi place in the entire Melbourne region, with the best atmosphere, the best quality sushi and the best value for money even. Very family friendly. NOT TO BE MISSED, unless you hate sushi :)
I ordered to sit in but still received my order in unnecessary disposable plastic packaging. My gyozas were microwaved, not fried. Food was average. The staff could have made an effort to seem more friendly. Overall a disappointing experience.
Most delicious fresh sushi youll find anywhere! Locally owned and operated. Great hot food too. If you like Japanese food you must eat here!
We have always looked forward to their small take away salads but defo try the tempura udon. It doesnt sound great because they do a large lump of tempura rather than individual pieces but the broth is excellent and well worth it. Dont forget unlimited ginger! Clean Loos which is always a bonus
The staff were lovely and happy to veganise the Vegetable udon soup. However, the soup was luke warm when it arrived and dissapointed that the gyoza are pre cooked then microwaved in plastic containers before serving.
Not really happy!Sushi wasnt fresh but not that bad!Hot food was plain with no taste! Would not recommend this if you want a good feed in Phillip Island.
Horrible experience. Youkis is great if you are a young girl and have no aspirations or initiative and would like to still have a job. There is no table service so you can stand out the back chatting and laughing in a group while customers line up again and wait for a drink or to order food. We were told this place was still good after the move but it was absolutely terrible service and the food made both of us sick. Disgusted.
One of the best Tapas bars you will visit. Food is amazing and the staff are attentive while not intrusive. If you are visit Phillip island this is a must.
