Intimate zoo within a larger park offering 90 species, including tigers, plus a kids' petting zoo.
Nice Place to visit for both Zoo and Park. The most incredible thing is that the entry charge is free.
Love it :3Super cute exhibits, if you’re obsessed with small rodents, they have an exhibit where they bring out mice and guinea pigs twice a day at certain times. Oh and admission is free on friday so i recommend it :)
A free zoo in the downtown with so many animals.Very good place for weekends .
Its great place to visit for a walk and spend a bit of time with Animals. Service is amazing as usual in Japan but people there are really warm. Worth to visit!!!
Free entry and good place to spend time with your kids. Loved the roar of the Lion. 😀
Old but amazingly well maintained zoo, nice variety of animals and... ITS FREE.
Visited recently. Entrance is free. Good place for children
Theres no entry fee so its all free. Lots of animals to see as well. Plus a good gift shop where they sell cute plushies and key tags.Only bad thing is the penguin pool is super green and fitly. Other than that its a nice place to visit alone or with family and friends
Very nice. Especially for a free zoo, and the animals look well taken care of. The eating areas are basic but nice.
The good 👍:Built in the 1950s with the concept of getting to experience animals up close, this Zoo has an assortment of different animals that you can get to fairly closely. The highlight for me was the red panda and the giraffe 🦒Its a publicly funded Zoo so there is no entrance fee. There a place to eat inside the zoo near the entrance and at the entrance there is a gift shop. The facility is well maintained and youd never guess it was made in the 1950s.The bad: 👎Lots of stairs and the zoo is built on a steep incline and not friendly for people with strollers and wheelchairs.
Not far from the station, although it is quite a hill to climb.Free entry.Popular place, many families with young children.Compact size, easy enough to walk around, some shortcuts possible with stairs.Follow the map if you want to see everything, we followed our nose and missed the zebra. Even following the map it seems to require you to cover some ground twice. The bars of the cages make it hard to clearly see the animals, many animals kept to the back of their cages making visibility even more difficult. Some animals didnt appear to be there.
There are many slopes so it is a bit tired if you have a small child and strollers. Besides that, it nice zoo. There is zoo guide which introduces about animal activities.
Great zoo in Yokohama near Sakuragicho! Free entrance, kid friendly, has small cafeteria, and some souvenirs. Very clean and well kept zoo.
I was pleasantly surprised it isnt a huge space, but it had a lot of animals, and my 8-year-old had a great time - for free. It was the best time weve had at a zoo in Japan.
Good place for excursions
Fun afternoon outing especially for the kids. No cost zoo, very fun.
Its free. Built in 1951 with little updating since then. The animals are in small enclosures that leaves a true animal lover feeling sorry for them. But still a nice place to visit.
When I read the details about the zoo on the net, it says that there are a lot of species that we could see there. However, when I went there, there were only few animals. Its probably because of the weather. And the animals look so weary. I think they must be taken care more during this hot season.
Free public zoo in Yokohama near Sakuragicho behind the city library. The lion, giraffe, zebra, bear and chimpanzee cages were terribly small :( but other smaller animals seemed content. they have a red panda, turtles, cranes... seems like a popular date spot, but also popular with school kids. i find zoos to be pretty sad in general but if you need to see exotic animals in yokohama this place is it.
Its difficult to go walking since it is in a hill , small zoo with few animals compared to others. The structures are kind of old (70 yearshowever the entry is free.It has very good exotic animals and because its small it isnt so crowed . Good places to rest, and near there is a park to play with your children.A small shop of souvenirs and ice cream.
Love love love this zoo. Very clean and the animals were beautiful and well taken care off. The Zoo was not so large but just a right good sized zoo. Thank you for the free admission.
The location is almost unbelievable. The zoo entrance is free and it just a 10 min walk from Sakurahicho Station. The zoo is really well maintained and is kids friendly but giving 4/5 stars because Im not a big fan of animals in enclosures
It is good place for children. You can see various animals like lion 🦁, tiger 🐅, Giraffe 🦒, Zebra 🦓 ,deer 🦌, bear 🐻 and monkeys 🐒also some reptiles and turtles 🐢, fishes 🐟 etc. It will take about 1.5 hrs to complete all 24 listed map points. Admission is free. Walkable distance from sakuragicho and kannai station.
Its free to enter which is great, but the animals all look so sad. Not a lot of room for any of them.
Walking distance from central Yokohama, nice walk ways in the park. Good toilet and drinking fountains, sufficient picnic grounds.Good selection of animals, though a lot of them are sad looking, maybe because of the limited space and friends.Theres a petting zoo and you can touch the friendly mice, chickens...All free, not many visitors there, worth going if you have 3 hours or more.
Its a free zoo yet clean. You can also touch the animals there like chicken, mouse and big hamster. Small zoo but good enough to entertain children. There are many stairs in the zoo.
Managed by Yokohama city and admission free! This is located near Minatomirai area and it takes only for few hours to go around because of the compact size. It is one of your choice for Yokohama tour.
A free zoo, with an impressive collection of interesting animals. Clean and well run. However I couldnt help but be heartbroken by the small, unnatural cages, and depressed looking captive animals within. I have seen other zoos around the world make huge renovations over time, to improve the environment for the animals and their sanity. If you feel strong empathy with animals, and have a genuine love for the natural world, this zoo may upset you like it did me.
Surprisingly a very nice zoo. Free entrance and they have a few animals, including monkeys 🐒, giraffes 🦒, tiger 🐅, lion 🦁, birds 🐦, crocodiles, snakes 🐍, etc.Possibility to touch some animal got kids.Anyway great place to spend with your family and kids.
Entrance is free, small zoo. Nice for children because there is an opportunity to touch Guinea pigs, mice and chickens.
Free ZooBest for kids!Crowded on holidays but still all the free facilities available like touching or patting the animals ( hamsters , rats, roosters etc.Special decoration according to the season is the one attractions!Ample space for eating but better carry food and drinks along!
This medium sized municipal zoo located at the top of a hill, 10-15 min walk from train station, has a free entrance. There are quite a few different species and a petting zoo for kids. Its nice place to spend an afternoon with kids. There are a number of empty enclosure where there were some animals before but which seem abandonned now, and also broken material gives a strong feeling that the zoo is past its prime.
OMG. I still cannot get over the fact it is free entrance. Happy animal and so clean. Giraffe, lions, tigers, flamingo, penguins, deer...much more. If you go before 14:30, you can even hold animals ! We were bit late but kindly the staff offered my daughter to stroke guinea pig ! You can take lunch with you and allowed to picnic there. At the end of it, you can purchase yummy strawberry ice cream and souvenir. We had such a good time ! There is bus going there from Yokohama Station few buses every hour.
Great place to spend a weekend especially with small children. It’s located close to a popular shopping area, Minatomirai, but peaceful and relaxing zoo and park. Another good part is that the admission is fee! However, if you walk from the station, you have to clime a little steep slope to get there.
Small but free! Nice mix of animals. Only about 10 mins walk from Sakuragicho station. Theres a petting zoo where you can interact with Guinea Pigs, chickens, mice and snakes (although on our visit we didnt see snakes, probably too cold). Animals are really tame and cute.
Better than what I expected for a free zoo! But I feel a bit sad for the giant animals like tiger and lions ... their living space is so tiny!
One of the best zoos we ever visited. There are very few people inside and you enjoy viewing animals without crowd and noise around. Set of animals might be a little narrower than it is usually in the zoos, but you enjoy everything a lot. And there is a corner for playing with some ordinary/home animals like mice, chicken. And what is outstanding and really surprising is that it is free of charge! I still cant believe it... If you will manage to find it hidden somewhere deep inside the living area of the city, you will enjoy it too. Go go go!
Really had a good time at this zoo which is free; even petting the little ones. Definitely recommend :)
Pretty fun place, you get to see animals up close. No playgrounds. Free!
Nogeyama Zoo is a fantastic zoo! It’s hard to believe that it is free to enter. The ツリーハウス英会話 in 黄金町 中区 横浜 offers a free one hour English lesson at this zoo!
This is a well laid out zoo with all the main attractions you would expect (lion, tiger, crocodile, chimpanzee, etc...)There is a picnic area that is on the grass next to a large pond exhibit and on a hillside overlooking the pond is a covered picnic area. Here you will find a fun for children petting zoo area with guinea pigs, mice and chickens. The schools from all over Kanagawa-ken come to this zoo.The best zoo for your money... FREE!Please donate to keep this zoo going, since I am a teacher with students who attend, I donate.
Great zoo, animals seemed healthy and happy enough, its always hard to see wild animals in cages but hopefully they can help educate people.
Kids can touch and pet small animals such as hamsters, chickens and Guinea pigs. If you are amused by animals that live in captivity, go for it. Aquatic animals look healthy but other species like Lions and Tigers live in a very small space. The ponds are dirty as well.
Very nice place for kids and adults and not to mention, its free!!! I love the animals except the python but if you wanna check it out just go to Nogeyama Zoo. I love the penguins!!!❤️
The entrance to the zoo is free. There is a big advantage that there are not many, but various animals, and can see close. The disadvantage is that it can be a little hard to walk on the hill. Please use the bus.
Great little zoo with free entry. The petting zoo is awesome. You can pat guinea pigs and chickens.
Small but all the animals were very close to pathway and all were very active (around noon)
Free admission. The zookeepers seem to really care for the animals. The zoo is really well laid out and easy to get around quickly. Great for small children. Good signs and displays. You can hold gerbils, mice or chickens depending on the time of day.
Not huge, but well planned. I would recommend going on a weekday. The weekends and holidays are very busy. Also very pretty in the autumn, because of all of the Japanese maples.
FREE zoo with approximately 1200 animals of about 100 species. Opened in 1951 it was the first zoo in Japan to enjoy success of housing a number of foreign species including panthers, sloth bears and lemurs. Currently, there are no panthers but they do have big "cats" - a lion and a tiger. There arent any sloth bears at the moment either, but they have other types of bears. The kids enjoyed being so close to the animals and being able to see them up close and personal. They have a great petting area where kids can meet, touch and hold small animals such as mice, guinea pigs and snakes.
