Yesnaby - Viewpoint in Kirkwall, United Kingdom
Mind blowing views at Yesnaby. Often you can spot dolphins or whales in the sea, bring binoculars.Be cautious on windy days - the door of your car can get damaged when caught in the wind.
Fantastic views of the sea and along the cliffs. Very dramatic
Wow!!! Just beautiful.
Amazing scenery all the way to the castle, and to the north to the broch! Take care of there are high winds (nearly always!!)
Great views
Beautiful but don’t get close to the edge !!! They have stories of tourists doing selfies and falling off. It’s very windy here but we were blessed with blue skies. Worth the stop!!!
Probably my favorite walk Ive done here in Orkney. Stunning scenery.
Epic coastline. Truly breathtaking. Saw the incredible power of the sea to shape the land.
Pretty windy at the best of times so wrap up warm. Very steep cliffs so keep the children close. Well worth a visit
Lovely walk to the stone stacks. Wild and impressive landscape.
Fantastic views of coastal cliffs. Moderate walking for those looking for scenic views rather than full-scale hiking.
Great cliff walk.
Walk to the left and stunning cliffs and sea stacks. Walk to the right find an old broch. Stunning location
Well worth the drive to find this great place. You can hike along the cliffs or just sit and enjoy the majesty of nature. On a clear day this cant be beat. I would imagine that on a windy day it could be trecherous here.
Nice to visit and see the views.
Search for the Yesnaby car park. Plenty of places to walk and take pictures. It can be very windy, so bring gloves. Don’t let kids roam free, because it is a cliff side and may be dangerous. You can spend hours here, but a very short walk gets you this view and others.
Gorgeous scenery. Perfect with a wee dram of Highland Park
Slightly scary if you dont like heights, but not a long walk to the stack and simply stunning coast line, one of natures beauties.
This is a beautiful place to visit, but has no toilets for miles..the car Park is limited and if a Coach or coachen come in the Block your cars in...the driver was asked to move and all we got from the Tour guide was rudness. This place had a 2nd Coach coming in when we left so no doubt everyone would have been blocked in...The road in are barely fit for cars withwithout the Addition of 40 seater coaches.I would recommend avoiding this place until the problem is addressed.
A very wild and windy day. Wonderful coastal scenery
Nice walk to the castle
Stunning views and crashing waves. Worth the short walk south to see the sea stacks.
I came to see the Orkney primroses - I was not disappointed, what brave little plants to try growing here. If theres a Westerly gale blowing this is a striking place, with great waves crashing on the rocks and streams being blown back UP the cliffs and, I expect, some lovely sunsets. A great place to park up and watch or for a bracing clifftop walk.
Great coastline.
Great for a short visit/stroll, just beware of strong winds
Stunning views and amazing rock formations lots of bird life
Best when the waves are high, just love standing on the edge! Spot the Man of Hoy too
Very good place to visit, stunning cliffs and crashing seas. Haven for birdlife too. Beautiful scenery all around, with a very pleasant coastal walk. Easy parking.
Loved the walk and the cliff edges. Breathtaking view of the cliffs which form a cascade. You can easily spend 2 3 hours exploring the space.
Stunning. Can get quite windy but great trails to walk.
Beautiful walk - would recommend shoes with decent grip but nothing special required!Great photo opportunities out towards the sea stacks and the old man of hoy is visible (if very small and far away!)
There is a walk to the castle, a sea stack if you can drag yourself away from the cliff views just beyond the car park. There are many inlets, hidden arches and waves crashing all around. Best on a windy day (most days. The walk isn’t very far on a worn path, crosses a burn on a wooden bridge where it gets a bit muddy but apart from that good under foot. Several vantage points to view the surrounding cliffs and the stack. Take your time and explore and be careful at cliff edges.
Go see some waves. A westerly coming in off the North Atlantic makes the experience all the more exciting. Even on a calm day its great to walk up the headland.
Was here on very windy day, watching the gulls, kittiwakes arctic tern, great skua all trying to land on theses small ledges feeding their young etc was truly amazing
Bit of a walk to see the stack but worth it. Any angle along the coast offers super viewing.Plentiful parking, just be patient in getting there due to the single track roads and dotted passing places....and beware the uneven ground when parking.
So weve been travelling around Orkney now for a few days and seen many of the sights which the island has to offer. This one however tops them all (weather permitting).Absolutely stunning views of the cliffs, stacks, and WW2 batterys. Highly recommended.
Beautiful spot for walking in Orkney. Miles of coastline but keep to the paths, much of what appears as firm coastline is overlying grass only.
Fairly well defined paths to follow so not as difficult as youd think.
I love walking on cliffs. Did a fairly quick walk to look at Yesnaby Castle, a cliff stack.
Great views. Nice sea stacks and bird life. Can be windy. Bring a warm and waterproof coat, even in summer. Opportunities for a swim on truly warm days or for those with hardy lifestyles.Walks along the cliffs are nice with views as far as the Old Man of Hoy on clear days.Free parking at some old abandoned remains of buildings. No toilets. Some information panels with history about surrounding sites.
Beautiful cliffs with the calming sound of ocean waves crashing against rugged rocks. Hike up or down the coast to find a maze of inlets and hidden caves.
Very beautiful place! Like in a fairytale! Gods masterpiece of amazing beauty and power and mistery at the same time
Site of interest with the remnants of WW2 Yesnaby lookout station. Good place to find wild flowers including the Scottish Primrose. Superb coastal walking. Good views. Car parking available, but no toilet facilities.
I have been to Yesnaby many times over the years marvelling over the different sea states and wildlife. There is always something new to see. The puffins there are nesting in the ciffs and can be seen heading to see to fish. It is certainly one of my favourite places to go in Orkney.
Was very windy so we did not explore too much. However the hiking here has very nice views.
Very high cliffs of layered stone the breaks into blocks, windy, excellent scenery and relatively easy walking. Seabirds all around. On a sunny day the sea is clear. Great place to visit. Watch out for the dog walkers and parties of walkers who roll up and park cars without any thought of how others are going to get out.
Lovely cliffs with great views, some of the very best in Orkney. The dissonance between the dramatic view of the cliffs and the calm country landscape behind you is almost disconcerting, but in a good way. There is a good trail that passes through here, along the coast. Its very nice but very dangerous, so beware. Close to this spot there is the Yesnaby Castle, which, maybe disappointingly?, is not an actual castle but a sea stack very much akin to the old man of hoy. definitely worth a visit!
Stunning coastal walks along the cliffs, it feels like walking on Mars in some places!Such a beautiful place, one of my favourite places in the world.
Good view point. But will have to walk a couple of miles from car park to see the Yesanby stack which we didnt. However views are beautiful from the car park area as well. Need to be very careful especially with children. Loose rocks. Also very windy.
Stunning scenery! Huge cliffs plunging into the sea. Definitely one of my favourite places in Orkney.
