Yerevan Zoo in Gavarr

After visiting this zoo, I was horrified to learn that theyve kept Bunka the elephant in an enclosure in solitary confinement, all by himself, for over 7 years. Elephants are hugely social creatures, and need to be with other elephants for healthy engagement.Others have seen him on multiple occasions pacing around in circles, which is indicative of "zoo psychosis," brought on by crushing loneliness and confinement.When I was here he was listless. His enclosure is a depressing, bare, area, with nothing to stimulate him in a healthy way.I wont be returning to this zoo again, and will be spreading the word about this to friends and family. Bunka needs to be allowed to go to an elephant sanctuary!

The elephant is kept all alone! It is inhumane!!! Elephants are social creatures, they are not supposed to live alone!! The management of this place obviously doesnt care about animals or want to change the situation!This is CRIME!

Ok zoo. Poor labeling. Some of the animals didnt seem happy. The lion looked almost dead.

Beautiful place in need of repairs. Nice environments for animals. Very steep places to climb though! If you have a weak constitution keep that in mind

Last time we visited Yerevan zoo in 2019 with the high hopes that on our next trip we will see a lot of improvement. Totally disappointed, the only thing improved is greenery, a lot of trees. You feel more like going to the botanical garden rather than zoo. Most important no changes or improvement of the living conditions of the poor animals. They look malnourished, dehydrated, cages are filthy. But guess what they opened another café inside the zoo. Out of respect to the animals we didnt buy anything not even from the souvenir shop since we are not sure where the proceeds will go.

Bad. Ive been there last year, conditions were somewhat good, but now... the entrance (where you pay moneyis clean, but when you continue... all you feel is pity for animals. Conditions are awful. Some of the animals are not there anymore (I guess they died), zones where animals STILL exist are dirty.I approached 2 employee, one of which was wearing medical scrub and kindly shared my opinion about the zoo and tried to understand their point of view. All I realized is that they are not ready to admit any adequate feedback. Animals are not safe.

Yerevan Zoo keeps improving. Its not the best zoo in the world, but certainly not bad at all. Especially for the entrance price of 1000 dram, its actually really nice. Some animals are not living in the best conditions, hopefully they will fix this.

Good place to visit. Nice structure. Facility service is good. Not many animals. But its fun for families.

Good if you are with family, doesn’t have all types of animals, also not big , and have limit numbers of welfare facilities.

Nice small zoo in the city of Yerevan. Good for the kids.

Really nice place to visit with children. There are cafe, outside of the zoo and also inside. There is also playground for children. But you can see that zoo needs renovation. Everything is old from Soviet Union time. The price of the ticket was 1000 dram per adult, which is very low. To get there we could by taxi (3000 dram to the center).

Wonderful zoo, I have visited for the third time within the last 5 years, its marvelous place to relax and enjoy photos with different animals.

Small, clean, good.

The zoo is small, but almost all the animals are in good conditions (cant say the same for the monkeys). It feels like the employees care about the zoo and the animals, but more funding could have made this place even better. Worth a visit.

They had a great environment and they kept most of the animals in clean and good condition.

The more I visited that Zoo, the more I understood how both the Zoo and the attitude towards animals have changed since my Soviet childhood. If only I could, I would save all these poor animals. I heard so many awful stories about the whole situation at the Zoo, about the previous director and how the animals are badly treated. It is more than obvious, that the Zoo is kept by people who hate animals 😩

I was pleasantly surprised! Last time I went there was 2008, and I remember feeling depressed and bad for the animals afterward. This time the experience was totally different. The renovations were impressive and the animals looked happier and healthier. I enjoyed being able to get up close and interact with them and feed them. During a time of pandemics, its a nice way to spend time out of your house while being in the open air and practicing social distancing and safety.

Too much to walk inside, there is no canteen inside this zoo so carry your own food and water. Many birds, reptiles and animals are there. Very interesting one.

Nice zoo where you can see animals from the close up. There are a lots of places to rest and hydrate.

Recently it has been renovated. A beautiful place with many animals.

Lovely zoo. Uphill walk so prepare to sweat. Good variety of animals and very clean.

Zoo reopened. Very affordable and great for small children. Hopefully they will continue to grow. Great walking, early morning recommended.

Wow . There are many animals here

Ive been in Yerevan Zoo 5 years ago. So much have been changed. There are very few cages left there. Most of the animals live in open range cages. The Zoo has mach bigger land and more happy animals.

Nice zoo, some say it’s small, but there are a lot of animals, and they look happy!There is a hippo in the pool :)

The Yerevan Zoo, also known as the Zoological Garden of Yerevan (Armenian: Երևանի կենդաբանական այգի (Yerevani kendabanakan aygi)), is a 35-hectare (86-acrezoo established in 1940 in Yerevan, Armenia.At present the zoo is home to about 2749 individuals representing 204 species. Species representing the South Caucasus and Armenia include Syrian brown bears, Bezoar goats, vipers, Armenian mouflon, and black vultures. Other species at the zoo from around the world include African lions, tigers (Bengal and Siberian subspecies), spotted hyenas, Caucasian lynx and an Indian elephant named Grantik.

Great place to visit with family, very well maintained and beautiful I appreciate the management work

This place keeps surprising me every time I take my kids there.Few years ago this place looked forgotten (cages were small and dirty, animals looked sick and hungry). But the Zoo make a good progress since then. Now its mainly looks like the other Zoos in developed countries.

YerevanZoo is beautiful place for spending your time with family and especially children. It is Surrounded with green areas. The cages for animals are pretty clean and suitable, especially after repair.

If you have visited Yerevan Zoo before it is totally changed. You can take a lot of awesome pictures here and spend your time with animals. For children here you can find small cafes and attractions.

There is a big improvement after the renovation. The zoo is more organized and clean.
