Longtime eatery serving Mandarin & Hunan fare in a space decked out with ornate Chinese accents.
We always have delicious food at Yen Ching! Their sauces are the best. Our favorites are anything with Hunan sauce. Very friendly and capable owners.
Great staff, great food, great service, I love the aestetic and how friendly it was.10/10 would recommend
๐ Amazing. They never disappoint. Best Chinese food ever!!!
Nothing fantastic. Crab Rangoons were soggy and nasty. Used to be good... Hope it was a fluke.
Great food, great service, great people
Not sure where to start, so well start with the good. Bathroom was clean, and our server was very professional. Thats where the good ends. Sweet and sour chicken was served with a bland orange jelly smothered over 6 small pieces of chicken. The "spicy" hunan beef was just as bland, boasting a few tiny thin pieces of beef with some nice grissel. Filling for the crab ragoon was almost non existent. Im confident most if not all of the veggies came out of a can. Avoid at all cost
Nice service! Good food!
Dont waste your money had gotten Mongolian beef and orange chicken last night BOTH had ZERO flavor to them and when I mean ZERO i mean the only flavor you could tastes was unseasond beef and onions/over cooked chicken that reminds you of canned dog food it would have sucked less to burn cash in your own hand save yourself the pain and aggravation
Beautiful restaurant inside great service and even better food
So good to go to here. Staff knows my name and normal order.
Prices online do not match the prices they have now. They went up drastically. The food is still the same though.
A very popular place for us. We go back to day one here. Always a great spot for our Oriental taste cravings.
I went there with my family what I ordered smelt so bad I could not eat it my wife had sweet and sour shrimp one shrimp would be really good the next shrimp would taste like it was spoiled
Great place to eat. Food is yummy and friendly owners and employees.
A Dubuque Staple! 20+ years of delicious food Asian food!
Good food. Good portions. Very friendly and fast service.
I think this is over of the best Chinese places in Dubuque. We visit Yen Chings each time we come to Dubuque. All of the menu items are awesome. The tea and soup that come with the meals is great. Egg rolls are a must! Definitely worth visiting.
Loved this restaurant! Amazing service, lovely dining room, and delicious food for a very reasonable price๐ Hint: ask for extra spice, if you like it - my duck was marked spicy but it came out very mild, which I actually appreciated but my girlfriends General Tsos needed hot sauce.
This is the best place in Dubuque for Chinese food. Im super picky and this place is amazing. The Hot and Sour soup is the best Ive ever had and the egg rolls are super crispy and delicious. They have never messed up an order and always are quick and friendly.
My friends, fiancรฉ, and I eat here every week if not multiple times. We love this place!! Such good food and quick service. If you choose between take out and eating there tho definitely eat there. The hot braised pork is so good and the appetizers are BOMB. Probably getting this for lunch today!!
Always good food.always great service.richard has taken care of me for many years.my whole family enjoys their food.delicious and the prices are perfectly balanced.
We enjoyed our lunch a great deal. The servings were generous with an abundance of fresh vegetables. We like the old school ambience. It is easy to socially distance in the spacious tables.
If one orders off the menu the rice shouldnt seem like it was re-heated from the buffet. Also the canned veggies in the fried rice is not a good look. I didnt realize it was so cheap. So it you want a low cost meal its ok. I am not that person. I like my food fresh.
Their crab meat ragoons are flat and only have one small bite thats not only breading, also they rarely have Duck Sauce and their egg rolls are stringy with cabbage. Two stars is the absolute BEST I can give them. 1 star the first time I went, Im giving them 2 stars the second time just to be nice. I be will not order from there again. Much better and cheaper Chinese food in Dubuque.
Not a five star in my book... Service maybe 3 star and 2 star for food. But since I know Im in a bad mood today, I wont take it out on them
I had fond memories of Yen Ching from years ago, and even as recently as 2 years ago. All that came to a screeching halt after the absolutely horrid service my family just experienced. We never even received the drinks we had ordered, food was cold, the staff seemed disoriented and confused about everything when they bothered to check on us at all. It makes me sad to even leave this review, because I loved this place. I dont think Ill ever go back.
Should have read the reviews before I went. Place has a wierd odor that is noticeable as soon as you enter. Decor is dark & very dated. Im not a hot tea fan but do like just a bit of it with a Chinese meal....tea was very dark, luke warm at best & very bitter. Ordered moo shu pork, could have been hotter & it was a bit greasy but taste was ok. This may be the first time Ive been to a chinese restaurant & not had the receptionist or serve be Chinese. I was there at 6 pm on a Wednesday night & only 2 others in restaurant. Visiting Dubuque, this was close to hotel. Should have made a different choice.
Ordered pick up and I should have known better when I walked in and the place smelled musty and was completely empty of customers. Employees had their personal items (backpack, cell phones, baby clothesat the front seating area. The chicken cashew I ordered had absolutely no flavor where I couldnt even eat it. I ordered egg rolls and was given spring rolls. Will not return here again.
Order two different entrees, both lacked flavor. Possibly the worst Chinese food I ever had. Couldnt even make a drink right. Not sure if new owners; had seen some good reviews, thats why I went there.
Only had a few experiences with this place. 1st time was good. The gentleman who answered the phone was nice and accommodating when i asked to make a dish spicy. I believe he delivered my food as well. Only reason for the 3 star. Winter came and attempted to order delivery. The girl that picked up wasnt very pleasant. She stated no delivery due to the weather. Fine, no biggie. Called again the next day. Same girl picks up. She says there is delivery. Gave her the address to the hotel i was working at & she asked me where that was & then she said she didnt know where that was even after giving her the name of the business. So then she proceeds to tell me shes not going to send a driver to me so i can only pick up. Hotel is in town. Shes a dumb broad. I have never called or attempted to go back. It takes awhile to gain customers but you can also lose them in a SECOND.
The service is friendly and the food is pretty good. You can tell the age of the place but it adds to the charm. Will go back and bring friends.
This Mandarin restaurant is fantastic. Although the food is the same you would find in any mall Chinese food buffet, the service is wonderful. Always very attentive and responsive to needs. And dont forget their house specialty of YENG CHING FRIED RICE. A wonderful mix of chicken, pork, beef and shrimp fried rice all in one.
The food is absolutely awesome. The restaurant really needs an update. Kinda stinky, kinda dirty, big rips in booth seats. Awesome prices for lunch but i prefer ordering take out or delivery because of the condition of the restaurant.
This is a nice, reasonably priced option in downtown Dubuque. I go to lunch here once a month or so. The food is good and there are many options on the menu. I have always found the service to be fast and attentive. The owners are friendly people who take pride in their restaurant and want to make sure customers leave satisfied.
This is a small Chinese restaurant located in downtown Dubuque. Dine in, take out, and delivery. Most menu items are good. I have had a few a bit dry, but the house fried rice is excellent. The hot mustard is pretty strong, the chili paste adds great flavor and a bit of heat. Both are on the table in a serving tray. I also got hot green tea on arrival. It seems old and seedy, but the food aint bad and the service was good.
Dont bother! I called for delivery for my family. The first time someone answered they put me into thei voicemail that said leave a phone number and theyd call. They didnt so I called back. This time the lady asked if I could wait, I said yes. She put the phone down and for the next 10 minutes I listened to a few conversations as people paid for their food, her laughing with the kitchen staff and several moments of silence where clearly someone could have taken my order. I finally gave up and spent my money else where
Had the Hunan beef and general tsos chicken. Loved both dishes and had no leftovers! Served with complementary hot oolong tea.. it was perfect!
Ordered deliveryPerson on phone was very friendlyAppatizer platter- tasty treat, only complaint, the pot stickers needed seared a little moreHot and sour soup- amazing. Best soup I have ever had, little pieces of pork and shrimp sent it over the topTwice cooked pork- great flavor, perfectly portions of pork and cabbageAll in all ranks right up with some of the best Asian food I have had in a very long time
These guys offer delivery....pfft. Shysters. Get this. Unbelievable. Im a truck driver. Im parked, literally, 1.4 miles away from them. They advertise delivery. I call and order up happy family with egg roll. I figure that puts me into them for a little over $15 after taxes, not counting the tip for the driver. They then inform me (for deliverymy order subtotal has to be at least $20. Thats not including taxes or their delivery fee. Nevermind a tip. I tell her I cant eat that much food. Im by myself. I say no thanks. What a ripoff!!! Ive ordered Chinese delivery in L.A., Atlanta, and Louisville... Ive NEVER paid that much to have Chinese delivered!!!! Only in Dubuque.... only in Dubuque.... the Mecca of Chinese cuisine..... pitiful. Greedy greedy greedy. Shame. Youre all in on that $20 minimum subtotal. Imo, youre ripping people off.
Yen Chings is some of the most delicious food Ive ever tasted. My family loves coming here, and the atmosphere is wonderful. They always make the whole family feel welcome and cared about. We give this local restaurant an A++!
My family and I walked in and were greated by a "wait to be seated" sign and stood there for a considerable amount of time. This would have been understandable except there was only one other table in the restaurant. We were offered a booth or a table to our liking. When going to sit in the booth, we were told we couldnt sit there due to not enough room. We were one of two tables in the restaurant. Our waitress didnt get our drink orders, the hot tea was lukewarm, our food came out fast but was not up to temp or even hot. Crab Rangoons were mushy. Rice was cold and crunchy. The steamed veggies that were ordered were still hard. Half way through our meal the waitresses cell phone went off three times and she answered all three times and then continued to ask if it was okay if she went outside to smoke a cigarette. My family and I were done with our meals before she was back in and took forever with the check. We looked up Chinese restaurants in Dubuque and were excited to find one with 4 stars and good reviews. Maybe it was just an off night or that the waitress was new, however my family and I wont be attending any time soon.
They deliver!!!Im a truck driver. I cant just whip in places, park and go in to enjoy a meal with VEGETABLES! Truck stops of old had restaurants, some even had Chinese. Not anymore! Itsounds either pizza, burgers or FRIED! I was so glad to see Ying Ching delivers! The food was very delicious and it arrived piping hot! Very friendly staff (phone and delivery). Marking them down for my next trip to Dubuque!!! Thank you for the great service and wonderful food delivery!!
I love this place! The service is great and the food is great! Their beef and broccoli is my favorite. The only thing I would do is give the restaurant and update, regardless its very clean.
I guess it depends on what you order here because ive heard great things- but i did not enjoy my food. I got beef chow mien which came in a brown sauce that tasted like american brown gravy. The noodles were in little chunks and were hard! The orange chicken was soggy. The fried rice was fantastic, however, and the fried wantons were pretty good. Overall, not great..
Dont let the higher rating fool you. The lady who took my order even said she doesnt like any dish that has the fried chicken morsels and boy was she right. If this was left out overnight and reheated I would accept the sloppy, gooey mess.Crab Rangoon is just a fried wonton wrapper with a light hint of cream cheese. They menu says "Spring Roll (Egg Roll)" which shows you they have no clue. Its a giant spring rolls and they need a separate egg roll option. Not coming back.
Had the almond chicken. I was not impressed. It came with what they call a crabmeat rangoon, but it more resembled a soggy wonton with a little cream cheese in it. I think Ill stick to a few of the other choices in town.
Dont. Just dont.Ordered two orders of General Tsao and an order of Fried Wontons.Wontons - new recipe where they substitute the cream cheese for rubber. We werent fans.Rice - Dry and flavorlessCrab Rangoon - 3"x3" of rubber with a tiny piece of meet in itGeneral Tsaos - Was not aware this was a soup dish. The chicken was obviously frozen at one point and the sauce was more bland than the rice. We ended up mixing in the sauce that came with the wontons to add some modicum of flavor.Oh and it was expensive...The only good thing about this meal was that we didnt get sick.
I had the sweet and sour pork. The best word I can think of to describe it is BORING. Everything had the same bland taste. The pork had no seasoning, the pineapple was not sweet nor did it taste like pineapple. Very disappointed. The worst Chinese food I have ever had.
horrible horrible food not even chinese food?? ordered two pu pu platters asked what was in it said I was looking for specific things like boneless spare ribs ect. they gave me two ribs on a bone?? ordered what I thought was lo mein noodles it was plain noodles with gravy?? dont wast ur time? its more like indian food than chinese?
I work very close to this restaurant. I have eaten there at least a dozen time and I highly recommend it. The Mongolian Chicken (#30, I thinkis amazing. Free soup and hot tea comes with the meal. I usually spend $5.25 for a meal, cant beat that.
