Yemisi Shyllon Museum of Art, Pan-Atlantic University - Museum in Esuk Oron, Nigeria
So so splendid. The architecture of the museum follows the principles that inspired the design of all the other buildings of the Pan-Atlantic University: fitness for purpose, flexibility, sustainability and character. We have created a flexible space that will allow the museum to change its display configuration according to changing curatorial demands, whilst efficiently utilising its provided resources. In planning the YSMA building and its systems, the designers gave great attention to security, environmental control, efficient lighting, display quality and ease of circulation. The excellent thermal insulation of the external walls and the efficient air circulation throughout the single “exhibition space” require a minimum air conditioning load. In addition, the cubic shape, a clean cube of 30 x 30 x 11 meters and the richly textured finish of the stained concrete walls give the museum building an iconic character, allowing it to stand out on the campus lawns and depict the universitys recognition of the museums value as an important contribution towards its educational mission.
Wonderful place. I’ll revisit by November
Serene and peaceful environment. A place youll love to visit again
The Shyllon Museum is located in the quiet serenity of the Pan African University.Ample space for car park and a short work to the museum with some crafted work on display outside. There is an entrance for wheelchair as well as an elevator to take them to the upper floor.A friendly security personnel is at the entrance to welcome you and to ensure you are logged in for safety reasons. On display are craft, art work, oil paint, caves and many designs by students both present and past. You could be amazed what one can do with empty plastic bottle water container, or disposed sachet pure water. Am not saying much on the bull crafted with disposed electrical board, or some vehicle parts. The lighting in the gallery are top notch, both for the display and viewing. Seems to have an international taste just as we see on movies; art galleries and studio.A particular distinct was camera shot of some candid posture, as well as color separation in display. There was no tour guide on ground as it was Sunday visit, but was told there is usually a tour guide which would have made it a more interesting visit.Art lovers will see it as a stop over to feast their eyes and to describe the stories they tell.I do would love to come visit again.
Tour guide is readily available and there is class available for tourists to take lectures on the tour and a shelter is equally equally available for assessment after tour...
It is quite an amazing and Seren environment.
Great ambience and awesome reception by the managers. Historical works embedded there. A great place for both kids and adults
Looking at shyllon museum in Pan American University. It is a great place with amazing facility. The museum has variety of collections from different community in Nigeria. Historical artifacts, painting and visual arts. The space can be used to organize art seminars and symposium.
Totally worth the drive and a fantastic collection of Art from Nigeria. & West Africa. I had an amazing time.
To say that I had a good time would be an understatement. My experience was edutaining. The most fascinating thing is that each item displayed has a story attached to it. My highlights were the Lantern made out of fire clay and the 9 virgins (If I got that correctlythat symbolizes the unpleasant practice of child marriage and how those who indulge in such act are regarded as headless beings. It’s so amazing how talented Nigerians are and how they use their hands to create magic. Not forgetting the items made out of materials such as palm kernel seeds, pure water sachets, sack bags and so on.
Beautiful art pieces located in Pan African University. It’s great to see universities promoting local and african artists and art pieces. When you’re ever in the school, make sure to visit!Price-wise, it’s free for students of the schools and NGN2000 for non-students.
The Yemisi Shyllon Museum is breathtakingly beautiful. This space amplifies the role and impact of arts to our existence. How arts can be used to form opinion and reshape society. This is one sure place to visit in Lagos.

This Museum is a hidden gem in Lagos, situated at a strategic location( Pan Atlantic Universitywith iconic art collections.

My visit to the museum was memorable. I saw alot of art works from Nigeria.
A perfect location for an art museum. Beautiful paintings and sculptures, and many other mind-blowomg works. The atmosphere is great and nice. The staff are gentle and kind too.
Truly phenomenal. Carefully preserved arts and artifacts and history. Truly phenomenal. Tour guide was very knowledgeable.Everyone should see this place.Id rate it 5/5
The premiere art museum of Nigeria. Outstanding collection of works in a unique building. A great way to learn about art, history and culture. Highly recommended!
After passing through the semi-madness of Lagos traffic, the serenity which greets you from the gate of the university is such a welcome treat. The museum boasts a rich art collection from legendary to contemporary artists. From the intricate patterns on wood and bronze sculptures to bizarre works from recycled materials, there is something to make your eyes pop.The guided tour is quite enlightening too. They sure know their onions. Its a great way to spend two hours.
Its a wonderful place, lots of interesting artworks and crafts. An abode for art and culture
If youre looking for clearer insight about Nigerias art history, then YSMA is the place to be. The art museum is the best oppurtunity to feed your eyes and your mind with amazing art and art history.
A gem of a place. This place houses the best art pieces you can ever come across in Lagos, Nigeria. Watch out for their superbly-curated exhibitions holding at different times of the year.
A beautiful place to visit, with lovely artworks on display. Ill definitely love to go back when theyve got a new set of artworks on display.
Yemisi Shyllon Museum is a wonderful place with lots of beautiful and prehistoric arts. Arts that dates back to 1900s are present there, that of 2000s are also there. One amazing thing to behold is the Sisi Eko statue, one of the most expensive arts in Nigeria is there. Electronic Arts that uses light as its propagation of beauty is housed in The Museum.
An exceptional educational art museum, lots of arts works from precolonial, colonial to contemporary... The arts arrangements, the architect is simply well put together, our tour guide was everything you can ask for he knows all the details about every piece , the museum director is just so welcoming.... Overall, Yemisi Shyllon museum of the Pan Atlantic University is a must visit, a whole lot to learn. #yemisishyllonmuseum
From the entrance of the YSM Art gallery, you may sense the simplicity of an art gallery, that urges you on into the world of art. But as you walk through the snaky path of the gallery, you realize that you have embarked on an extraordinary adventure, discovering works of art that you would have only been privileged to hear of but not to see. There, you rediscover yourself, as you go through the history of Nigerian arts and culture. Thanks to Solomon who demystified the art works with his elaborate stories. It was a wonderful experience for me as well as the others in the team, having the pleasure of touring the museum with Prof. Pat Utomi, who was also infatuated with the artworks.Everything is Art.
The museum is an awesome place to be. The facilitators were so gracious and helpful in giving a tour to about 150 students who attended a conference in the university campus. YSMA opens your mind to a whole new world. Lovely!
It was a lovely experience for me on Wednesday, 19th February 2020 experiencing the very first purpose built private Museum in Nigeria. The professionalism brought to bare by Jess Castellote and Chidera Ifechukwu gave me a reminisced at the Smithsonian Museums in Washington and the Guggenheim Museum at New York.Solemn ambience, great team plus amazing exhibits accentuate each moment I spent at the facility!
Amazing, a must visit and for all ages. Educative and informative with historical pieces of art.
As an art enthusiast, walking into the Yemisi Shyllon Museum was like homecoming. From the exteriors of the museum all the way to its interiors, the museum is doused in artistic appeal. It boasts a variety of conventional and unconventional art works that will appeal to a broad range of art enthusiast, sometimes to the point of awe and wonder.Art lovers would relish this atmostphere that has been carefully created inside the Musuem, an atmosphere of beauty and artistic freedom. The only downside is that the Museum is miles away from Lagos Mainland. If youre coming from Lagos Mainland, I would advice that you devote a full day to touring the grounds of the museum. Leaving the mainland early would be great too.For those living on Lagos Island, the distance is not as bad.
Great place to see 2D & 3D art, but comes at the price of a distant travel.
It was a long drive to the Yemisi Shyllon Museum from where I live in Lagos (2 hoursbut the visit was worth it.What I particularly enjoyed was the use of space by the museum, so that the Museum felt larger than it actually was. I was also impressed by how well their selection of works mixed ancient Nigerian art - like authentic Nok heads - with the best of contemporary Nigerian art like the surreal wooden carvings made from a single block without any joinery in a way that showed the continuity and development of art in Nigeria.Yemisi Shyllon Museum is now my default recommendation for anyone looking to get an idea of what Nigerian art, ancient and contemporary, looks like.
A museum that not only makes you proud of your African heritage but encourages critical thinking
It was a great experience, take time to visit the museum you will thank me later. Congratulations to Prince Shyllon and the museum team.
If you want to find diverse Modern and Contemporary Nigerian Art all in one place, I recommend a visit to this Museum. The setup is amazing, you get to view the pieces from different angles in the museum and the staff (Solomon and Michaelare very knowledgeable about every piece. It was a great experience for me and I would definitely be back!!!
Very very amazing museum with iconic pieces and modern architecture. I was very glad to see live many great artworks.congrats and big thanks to Prince Yemisi Shyllon and the director Jess castelotte
Great museum with an amazing collection of works. The curating and exhibition narratives were so rich and enlightening. The architectural design is a masterpiece of art on its own. One of its kind in the country. Would recommend a visit to anyone coming or already in Lagos.... Welldone YSMA 👍👏👏👏
Great space filled with a diverse range of artworks mostly by Nigerian artists. I would recommend to request a tour by very knowledgeable curators / museum staff and let them go through each piece. The museum is located in Lekki, which is about a 2-hour drive from Lagos, but it is worth visiting the place and spending time there.
Amazing art collection and an amazing space to show them. Must visit 💯
Serene environment, great architecture, interesting exhibitions, wonderful experience!
It was an amazing and an eye-opening experience for me. Im an art lover but Ive never been exposed to a lot of Nigerian art but i must say i was blown away. We have so much to give. I will definitely visit again!!!
Yemisi Shyllon Museum of Art, Pan-Atlantic University, is one of its kind and such a magnificent edifice to behold. I have been inside this orange cube two times since its construction work started. One of its features that fascinates me is the interior design. It is such that when you are inside it, you get this sense of being a spectator and a spectacle at the same time. It will indeed be a place of encounter with African culture, history, and creative ingenuity.I look forward to its opening in October .
A very nice museum in the making, with lots of knowledge and experience in store, teaching and learning with and through Art.
