Yellow Knolls Trail - Hiking area in Saint George, United States
From the parking lot to the dirt road at the top of the climb, I clocked in at about 5 miles. You will encounter some heavier sand as you are climbing up to the dirt road at the other end...enjoyable high desert hike. The trail is marked better than it was. 🤩
Very nice
Its so nice
Fun place for a morning hike. Not too long and can be done before it gets hot.
Quiet, secluded easy-moderate hike.Beautiful hike with very cool contrast of red rock and huge, black volvanic-looking rock. The hike is generally pretty smooth and flat, but there are a couple of areas with slight elevation changes through the hike and a few rocky areas which is why I would place it as easy-moderate.The hike leads to a passage between two rock formations that looks totally different, but are touching. One is red rock, the other is large, black volcanic-looking rock (though Im not really sure what the rock actually is).Notes:-Full-sun hike, no shade. Bring sunscreen, hats, lots of water, etc.- about 2 miles of the drive is on a cleared, dirt road- family friendly hike- try to go early to beat the heat- area is pretty secluded, so its a nice quiet area
I only went about a half mile Its open spacefor quite a distance no shade in sight. I waschecking It out. Its a nice easy trail but notfor summer. It looks good for fall, (I ll be back)Seems like Ive heard that before.
Defined trails and area map. Beautiful views of St George
An amazing desert landscape, simple trail, and peaceful place to hike.
Fun trail. A variety of terrain including lava rock, scenic sandstone cliffs and a transition from desert to pinyon and juniper.
Drove on dusty road for about one mile. The site seemed abandoned, no shade, not much view. Dry, hot, not worth it.
Neat trail will travel further in on another occasion.
Really fun hike! It offers some cool scenery as you are trekking on and it’s very doable. Do drive on a dirt road for a little ways to get there.
I came here on a Sunday morning around 8AM, and there were no cars when we arrived. The hike was okay; the first mile or so was burnt land and not that interesting, but once the trail went into the rocks, it was more interesting although the trail turned into sand. The trail went past the AllTrails to High Point and the trail faded out. We saw more people on the way out coming in, and there were more cars when we got back to the car.
Half of the trail is walking in deep sand. It is a good workout. A fire raged through here in the summer of 2020. So many of the shrubs and trees are charred from the fire. Some of the mountains looks like a large pan of buttermilk biscuits. Amazing diversity. No shade, so hike it in the winter.
Interesting trail. Easy, great scenery and you get further in. The start had recently been burned in a wildfire, but still cool
Not very pretty, trail is good for the first mile then gets not so nice.Interesting where the sandstone and volcanic rocks merge.
Awesome hike with scenic views not too difficult. Good access to the fire road that overlooks everything
This was a great spot away from everything. Hike starts off with a slight downhill, full of lizards, butterflies, grasshoppers and other little bugs. You go up and down after that. Moderate difficulty level. Bring lots of water, there is very little shade. Around the 2nd mile or so there are a few trees you can get some shade from, but not many.
Wonderful trail to hike with interesting features to see and photograph. 1.9 miles one way. One of my favorite trails in the Red Cliffs National Conservation Area. Highly recommended.
Nice place for a hike...be aware of snakes in the summer time
Yellow knolls trail in the Red Cliffs nature preserve is an amazing scenic gem. Ive lived 4 miles away from this spectacular tail for 20 years but had no idea what a special place this is. The trail is very well marked. Its very peaceful and quiet. The views and sand stone is remarkable. The trail is mostly Sandy with a gentle elevation gain. Wonderful opportunity to explore and test climbing sandstone. I will hike this trail again and again now that Ive discovered it.
Yellow Knolls Trail is less than 4 miles and open to hikers, runners and horses. It is also a good trail to hike with your dog in the winter, fall and spring. Not much shade so not a good trail in the summer. Beautiful scenery with the red and multi-colored rocks and lava rock. Trailhead can be accessed from Cotton Springs Road off Red Cliffs in St. George. Road turns to dirt but is accessible for 2 wheel drive vehicles.
Great hike
Fun easy trail with a cool end spot
It was raining so I didnt get to the end. So beautiful and peaceful. I will be back!
Its pretty hot here In the summer months I go early morning to run my dogs & Its ok I think personally it really is a great place for atvs & bikes its got some cool hills all levels from easy to moderate personally if you have dogs that like to walk go to the walking trails along the Virgin River instead
Yellow Knoll Trailhead was amazing. I took 2 of my kids and dog and we all loved it. It had such a variety from lava rock to red rock and sand. It was beautiful. The rock formations were unique. Perfect winter hike:)
