Hong Kong, Central, Stanley St, 34-38號HK 香港島 中環 士丹利街34-38號 金禾大廈地鋪 Conwell House, Hong Kong
Chinese barbecue & other familiar fare doled out in straightforward, compact quarters.
The place to go if u want roast goose in Central. They received accolades of Michelin awards. They also started to accept epayments instead of cash only.
2022-06-07 dinnerBbq pork was tough and not flavorful. Roast goose was nice, but no different from roast duck. The rice was plain white rice
Love the roast goose. It was also worth the wait.
Roast goose is one of Hong Kong staple dishes and the one Michelin star Yat Lok Roast Goose on Stanley Street that has a history going back to 1957 has been touted as possibly the best purveyor of this delicacy. The meat is marinated with a secret recipe and goes through an elaborate preparation process to deliver the tasty, succulent end product. Despite its fame and legacy, my dinner takeaway of roast goose leg and soy chicken on dry noodles for $190 failed to titillate enough for the expected 5-star meal and the <4 star composite rating and some of the comments also appear to agree.
One of the best goose rice Ive tasted. The queue was long but the wait was not as long as I expected. Service is fast and good. Value for money. Would come back for more.
Would return. Its good. Give it a go - debate about stars, well - frankly its tough to debate. Ive never had the same hk bbq taste twice in my life - across 3 different countries.Flavours were very strong - you need some rice with this. Honestly its really good quality, and Michelin general judge on consistency, so dont let extreme reviews sway you one way or another - if youre a foodie just do it.Is it worth lining up? Luckily I didnt have to - Im going to say no, its not worth waiting an exceptionally long time for this.
This used to be a good place, but the last two times have not been impressive. Ordered roast goose/bbq pork rice. Goose was mainly skin and the bbq pork was dry (see photo). Maybe Yat Lok used to be better, but right now they’re shockingly below average.
This is my favorite roast goose/bbq pork joint in HK. Super fast service, cheap for the size of portions given, and the meat is so tender and flavorful. If you’re solo, the small portion is plenty, medium could feed 2 people easily. Small shop so maybe get takeaway!
Based in Central. This place offers goose that arrives within minutes of ordering. It’s quick, affordable and tasty. The skin on the goose is not crispy but is flavorful and has a tiny bit of crunch to it.For a quick lunch it’s perfect and sets you up for an afternoon of shopping or whatever you have planned.
Came here 3 years ago. Now they added more Michelin stars till the present.Last time I had the goose leg on rice. Great taste. Succulent. The skin was crispy and the meat was marinated well. This time I opted for the goose leg with noodles with soup. The goose was still the same great thing. The soup base was fantastic as it was not overly salty. The downer was the noodles - lai fun. IMHO the noodles were slightly under cooked as some of the ends were still stuck together. The springiness was there, but definitely not was I was used to in Toronto. The noodles in Toronto are slightly thicker and more opaque. Whereas the noodles here are thinner and varied inbetween translucent to opaque. From what I remember, the prices have not changed so thumbs up for keeping it the same aster all these years.
Delicious roast goose. Pricy but rent in CBD must be expensive and goose are not cheap either. Goose leg is tender and fall off the bone, skin is aromatic and crisp.
I love all of the food there but I think its a little expensive for me(maybe not for u guys). The goose is a bit salty (for realbut roasted pork is so soooo yummy. Goose soup is also salty. Lastly the crispy pork belly one not tasty . 4 stars go to roasted pork 🥺🥺🥺.Minus 1 for the staff and not enough table .
Hmmm .... Plenty of Michelin Guide award on the wall. Would it be sacrilegious to say it is over-rated?On a personal view, I have had better. The roast good is decent but not that great ... I really have had better. Meat is juicy but the skin is lacking the crunchiness. The roast pork (siew yok), is a bit of a disappointment. The meat cuts are too chunky, they are not "bite size". The skin of the roast pork lacks the crunchiness that is associated with the crackling pork skin. The char siew is ok .... again I have had better. On a side note, the dumplings are very good. That was a surprise.Summary - Price ($$$vs Quality not worth it. Maybe due to its Michelins award, it can charge more than its competitors.
Roast goose is must try. The skin is crispy. If you don like oily meat, order the breast area. Else thigh is delicious.
I went here with my friend for Roasted Duck rice noodles. The duck was flavorful and had plenty of meat. The soup base also tasted like roast duck! Noodles were silky and seem really fresh. The place is small and crowded. You seat yourself then you get served like any other Chinese restaurant.
Was expecting spectacular roasted meat, such as honey BBQ pork (chasiu), but what I found just standard taste. The price is too expensive for one small portion rice & chasiu.Maybe I should try their famous roasted goose, can change my mind? Will see... The chilly oil is super nice though
Another hongkong famous roast goose shop. Has the very traditional no frills tea house feel if youre into those sort of things. Roast goose drumstick was fairly decent, tasty and succulent as expected. But do give the char siew a miss. Pales in comparison to their goose. Some what lacking in the bbq charred taste and too fatty for my liking.
Good roast goose and rice. They have an English menu which helps in ordering dishes.Tried both Yung Kee and Yat Lok and I cant decide which one has better roast goose. They’re both pretty good. They offer takeaway/takeout aswell.
I ordered roasted pork and goose. The goose was good, crispy and meat is tender. Roasted pork on the other hand was salty, it would have been better to reduce amount of salt a bit. Overall is good.
The BBQ pork was very nice and the roasted goose leg was good. The roasted duck breast was okay, a bit dry. Had the dumplings as well and they were good. Overall its expensive and I wouldnt go back, the goose needs more flavour.
You cannot get more local than this despite the prestigious Michelin star, the interior was nothing extravagant. The meat was addictively good – tender and juicy, the skin crispy and not too fatty underneath. A must try!
Best roast goose! I’ve had Yatlok since 2010 and it’s the best, retained its consistency & I have to say, the staff services has been improving over the years.I loved the char siew and roast pork as well. The succulent combination of fats and meat was perfect.
This place is way overrated. The goose is not that good, oily and skin not that crispy. Roast pork was quite nice with very crunchy skin. Food itself was not too bad, but there are much better places around. The downside is that since it is affiliated with Michelin (not sure if they even have a starand is quite famous, it is a massive tourist trap. There is constantly a long line, and unlike other small unassuming Hong Kong restaurants in the Michelin guide, Yat Lok has jacked up the prices to ridiculous levels. Very disappointing
The roast goose here is good. But I think I had better. The place is very cramped too, and you could be made to split tables if you group is large. The owners will also chase you away when you are done with the meals even though your friends at the other table have not completed their meals yet. While it is understandable from the business point of view, but having a peace of mind before and after the meal is an equal important experience.
This is one of the most famous roasted meat restaurants in Hong Kong. The even have a Michelin Star.I ordered the roasted goose with bbq pork and it tasted delicious. But having came here for the 2nd time, I think their standard have dropped a little bit. But overall still very tasty at a reasonable price. The service is fast and staff are quite friendly. Food is served fast so it’s a great place if you are very hungry.I’ll definitely recommend this place to people who want to try the roasted goose.
Welcoming, went without the crowd but still felt a little stressful. Rushed my food and leave the place. Pretty pricey. Goose was tasty but quite oily. I wouldnt recommend the roast pork. Its so salty and not worth, but maybe its individual taste preference
Best Goose and Roast Pork ever!! My favorite shop everytime I come to HK. The queue is long during weekends and meal time but it is worth waiting for. The shop is really small but the queue is quite fast too. Must order any set but with the goose in it cause that’s the special one there. The chili is good too!!
I have bad experience at this restaurant, manner of waitress and service (for me it’s the worst that human being can be). I order noodle alone (19 HKDthe waitress write down price 27 HKD which is noodle & vegetables, so i asked them to change the price, it’s wrong. They shout out swear words in Cantonese I can guess from the gesture and face expression Even the strangers that share the table with me say “oh too bad”Taste of food is ok not really good. Too packed and everything rush. If you cant speak mandarin&cantonese dont go!
I’m not the biggest fan of roast meats but the marinade used here is fantastic. A tad bit oily and slightly bony but the taste for the roast goose, char siew and soya sauce chicken was fantastic and heart warming. The side of vegetables was pretty good too. The rice was nice and soft. Standard of service was expected of a typical HK restaurant and it can be quite cramp too. Other than that, a must go to while in HK
Fantastic roast goose. The meat was succulent and juicy while the skin was fragrant and crispy. Beijing dumplings not bad too. Service was fast due to the large crowd. We waited for at least half an hour cos there were 4 of us. Would be better if go in smaller groups or split up.
Greate roasted goose with crispy skin. Roasted pork and Boiled chicken is good too. Dumpling with soup is good to be added tofill your taste. Unfortunately BBQ pork was sold out. Hope i have luck next time.
Located a little off from Central, Yat Lok is a bit of an institution for roast goose in Hong Kong. Still very low key and family run, the restaurant continues to maintain its Michelin star, and there is a reason why. The roast goose and barbecue pork is some of the best in the city, and the prices are extremely reasonable. This place gets crowded, especially around lunch time when you will probably experience a line. It is cash only. $350 will feed a couple with a moderate appetite.
We visited around 12h30 pm on a tuesday. There was a line out front, but we waited only a couple of minutes to get a table. They cram a whole lot of people in this tiny location so be ready to sit with strangers at very small tables. The food itself is completly worth it though. We had the roast goose and roast pork with rice (meat over riceand the same with noodles (meat over noodles in a soup(122 HKD total). The roast goose was excellent, juicy and flavorful and the skin a bit crispy, not too much bones or fat. The roast pork was also very well done, with an incredibly crispy skin which was so crispy even the soup wasn’t able to make it soggy. Overall an affordable and excellent meal. Would recommend.#yatlok #roastgoose #roastpork #hongkongfood #hongkong
I tried the roasted pork and goose, unfortunately the crispy skin roasted goose was sold out (at about 3pm). Both were excellent. Word of advice if you’re there for tasting is to take away instead of dining in. You’ll get your order within 5-10mins
Heard that the price gets more and more expensive. U need not try the goose drumstick. Try the breast meat where u get the meat and the crispy skin, so flavorful. I love the roasted pork and char siew too.
HKD $60 for a bowl of noodles with roast goose and roast pork. Really decent but not overly mind blowing. One of the best around but I believe many stalls come rather close. Packed with tourists so don’t come in big groups.Ok for a good meal around the Central area. Way more value for money than many top restaurants.
Delicious roasted goose! The skin was crispy and the meat was succulent! I expected to wait a long queue but we were seated almost immediately. The place was busy but the service was vert fast. I also tried crispy and BBQ pork as well. Both are also very good.
Still the best roast goose in town. Juicy, tasty and tender. NOTICE the plum sauce. It looks like its home made. Does not taste like a generic bottled one.The pork belly here is also excellent tender and crispy. Id say top 3 on my list for this particular dish. The goose is absolutely the best for me in Hong Kong so far!!
Delicious roast goose! Went for dinner at 8pm on a Monday and the restaurant was pretty busy but we got a table right away. We ordered the half roast goose, steamed chicken and roast pork, two plates of veg and rice, which was plenty for two (probably too muchand came to about $550. Everything was really tasty. Not cheap but not too pricey either considering the volume and quality. Would definitely return!
Price is reasonable, although que can be long. Sadly, the all time favorite roast duck drumstick has sold out when its my turn. Overall food are delicious but somehow I feel it would go better if i ordered it with rice rather than noodle.
Reached at 11am to avoid the lunch crowd, didnt have to queue, got a seat for 4 immediately. The size of restaurant is small, I feel that staff are more friendly during off peak times, a bit of small talk and make recommendations..had experience fair share of impatience when restaurant was packed and queue of customers waiting outside.Roast Goose was delicious😋We had a satisfying good meal.. so good that my friend bought the whole roast goose nicely packed in a box! 👍🏻
You must come to eat at this place. Crowded but you will be very exciting. They have Michelin star. Excellent loca food, especially roasted groose, pork bbq, steam chicken. It closes at 9 PM. Sometimes you need to sit together with other guests at same dining table due to crowded at dinner
I love roasted goose here..it’s quite oilly but the goose skin is so crispy! And my other favourite dish is chicken soy sauce..taste soooo good! Barbeque pork and crispy pork belly are quite pleasant too!
We got there at around 3pm. Luckily we got seats right away. Unluckily, they were all out of goose except for shoulder/neck. So we ordered that with rice and noodles and also took some crispy pork. It didn’t disappoint. I’d go back again if I could, but next time I’d go earlier. The question is always whether you are willing to wait in line, or simply go later and risk not getting the best parts.Oh yeah, don’t expect great service. You know a good Asian restaurant when the staff are rude and the place is kinda dirty, but the food is unquestionably delicious, typical whole in the wall kinda place.
Stopped by around 2030 before they were closing and there were still plenty of people inside eating. I was recommended on getting the goose leg but they were out when I got there. I had the roast goose and cha xiu BBQ pork. The meal was a pile of meat over rice. The cha xiu was alright. The goose was amazing. The skin was thin and crispy, and surprisingly very little fat on most of the cuts. I can see why they have a Michelin star.
Fast and good food. The roast goose is par for the course. Try the soy chicken- its better than most in asia. Its a small place so dont expect too much in terms of ambience. The tables move fast- its not a place to have long conversations!
It’s a very good food, but be ready to leave your luggage in the street since it’s a very very tiny little place. Also be mindful they’re Cantonese so they will not be as polite as a Japanese server. They’re very hectic and busy so just go with the flow because it’s the whole experience. The food is lovely, but the place is small AF. I had to share my table with another couple, but it was fun. Also get a beer or something because the style of food is very fatty.
I came on a holiday weekend and it wasnt very busy so we didnt have to wait. Unfortunately since it was later in the day they werent selling anything with goose legs. My table ended up getting the bbq pork, roast pork and individual goose breast over rice. The porks were good but nothing amazing. The goose breast seemed kind of small for the amount your paying for it. Looking back my table probably should just split a half goose. At the end, I thought the bill was kind of high for the amount of food I got It and I wasnt even really full.
Went during off hours (4pmto escape the insane lines they have during lunch. Overall very happy with the food and the goose is no joke!I got the roast goose with rice noodles soup and the HK iced milk tea. The goose was great. It was crispy even after being gout in soup and flavorful. The noodles were a bit too segmented for my liking. The milk tea was flavorful and done as expected for HK style milk tea.
There are Roast Goose restaurants all over Hong Kong. But to find a definitive one that hits all my right notes is perhaps hard to find. Thankfully Yat Lock came into my life. It doesnt matter if it garnered a Michelin Star to its name. But the fact I had to queque up outside and share a cramped table are what remains indelibly in my mind - for a stellar roast duck this good is perhaps one of lifes more memorable experiences worth griping about!😆
