Worsley Delph - Places of interest in Ashton-under-Lyne, United Kingdom
Friday night didnt have enough chips or new potatoes wasnt even busy had to send back 3 steaks as not cooked right and to top it I have been so ill with food poisoning from the salmon
Interesting historical location. ..where it all began!
Lovely food, sleek modern decor, excellent live music
Not a lot to see but knowing the Bridgewater canal was “apparently” Englands first canal and it allowed coal to come out of the mines is awesome. Not easy to park.
Busy road next to it and a bit hidden makes this place truly worth to see....read the signs and imagine how it used to be around here
Fantastic brunch! Staff were good and service was pretty quick. The shakshuka was especially yummy and the portion was big. They have a kids performer (Louby Louon Sunday morning (I thinkabout once a month though we just missed it.
I expected a trail or a Museum. Yet it was nice walking by the river.
So much history (The Bridgewater Canal is literally just over the fence, youd have thought theyd have made use of it. Car park is 3 spaces and 2 outside the estate agents but only after 6pm. Tudor style on the outside quiet plain inside, but window seats look onto a brick wall. Menu overpriced. £15 for bread and oil/balsamic for dipping. Nothing with it, no hummus or olives. I know its on the outskirts of the bustling metropolis that is Manchester, but its closer to the M60 at J13 and Id rather eat at the Services just 5 junctions up at Birch. It will be cheaper and yes I already know what youre going to say, (prices have gone upbut trust me you could feed a family of 4, on a night out by eating all three courses here and it was only me and my wife.
Historical part of the first canal built-in the country
Eggs was solid staff made us pay 1st as of we was going to run of n sausages was minging safe to say i wont be back
A scheduled ancient monument - whats not to like?
Most enjoyable experience.
This place is fabulous and so interesting dont miss the short walk. Lots of interesting facts even the school bridge - so lovely.
Nice place that is a part of the history of the British industrialization.
Great bit of history great pub lunch
After years of revitalisation finally ready. A very interesting place for fans of local history. Pity that the flooded mine itself is not open to the public.
Excellent steak sandwich great waiter service
We only had drinks at Worsley DelphA lovely place to drink but food looked beautiful.we be back for food soon.😀
Interesting to read about the Delph and to have a nice walk along the canal.
Beautiful little village.
Plenty of interpretation panels, buildings and (fauxexhibits to make sense of the industrial heritage. The self guided walk through the village and woods adds value. Good cycle trail and facilities
Excellent historic visit glad its been preserved
Historic location, site of a mine which supplied coal for Manchester at the beginning of the Industrial Revolution, originally transported by canal then later trains.
Really needs a good clean outside.. Nice indoors
Worth a visit if you live nearby to learn about the beginning of the industrial revolution. I suggest doing the guided tour coal canal and cake from the Bridgewater canal guided tours .
Good atmosphere. Brilliant food! Amazing waitress
Great little stop with routes into worsley woods and onto the loopline. Some nice cafes and restaurants near with coffee and snacks if walking mid day.
Lovely atmosphere, very friendly staff. Great food and Service.
Awesome! We will definitely be back. Our neighbours were celebrating their 50th wedding anniversary and the Delph were amazing hosts! 5 stars! Excellent venue. Excellent bar/restaurant and super friendly and efficient staff! Fabulous!
Lovely place to walk, nice little historical facts along the way. Walked past a Pub/restaurant that looked and smelt nice...and seemed relatively busy.
Beautiful historic place. Café and good walks nearby.
Great, peaceful place on a sunny day, showing past history of the underground mines & Bridgewater canal, lovely
Lovely place for a walk around, nice views too you can see the canal boats parked up as well as some great scenery.
Very well presented heritage site. Good information boards giving full respect to the birthplace of the British canal system.
Beautiful place and a walk into monton down the canal then back through the woods or the Worsley loopline is fabulous
Great place to visit
Possibly the best visitor site on the northern canal network. It is accessible, well laid out and informative. Well done CRT & Salford Council.
Beautiful spot to stop and remind ourselves of the history in the local area. Great starting point for a walk in Worsley Woods.
Very disappointed. The food is expensive, and generally OK. Today however I felt the sausage and bacon barm had been reheated, and it had remains of egg in it. Better is expected especially at prices so high.
Beautiful place to stop and learn about the history of the Delph and underground canals. From here you can also take a walk into the woods or along the canal. Theres also fab coffee and cake at Worsley Green.
The Delph is an interesting place to visit. There is a historic display of sculptures representing the canal and the Duke of Bridgewater mines. There is good walk along the canal and the picturesque Packet House and Alphabet Bridge. However, I would advise you to take your own drinks and snacks as the Delph takeaway is rather expensive -one coffee, one tea and one cake =£9 50! Take your credit card with you if you want a takeaway meal!
Huge industrial history and picturesque
Lovely spot, part of our industrial heritage. The Miners who worked these tunnels were tough! They had to be!
Slightly gutted as I have been really looking forward to going to The Delph, especially after reading the reviews. The atmosphere & staff are lovely, but unfortunately the food isn’t great. We chose the steak which was quite expensive at £24 and had to send it back (which isn’t like methen when it returned, it lacked flavour. It’s very expensive for average good.
Came to the delph tonight for the first time and the service was amazing. Despite clearly being busy Alison and Ethan looked after everything we needed. Will definitely be back and reccomend.
Amazing Food, service was exceptional!! really friendly atmosphere and the cocktails were sensational! I will be a regular without doubt!!
Beautiful scenic canal.basin ,good write up of the history of the area, lots of walking by the canal
Growing up it was bright orange, now cleaned up and historical art attraction applied.
Birthplace of the industrial revolution. A scheduled monument that at last, now looks the part.
Fantastic walks at the side of the canal with one or two pubs along the way to help refresh you.
