Rua de Miragaia 106, 4050-387 Porto, Portugal, Fânzeres
Museum with an eatery, a theme ride & exhibits exploring the history of early Portuguese navigators.
Fun exhibition, interactive with a boat ride on an artificial river. Nice idea. A bit thin though. Weve been through in about an hour. Recommended for families with kids between 5 and 12. Got inspired to read more about Portuguese history
The exhibition is nicely done, but honestly much too less compare the entrance fee. We paid 42 euro for a family ticket, 2 euro on top for one audio guide. The exhibition consists only 3 rooms, whereas there are only two wax men in the last room; following a ca. 10 minutes boat trip. And there is no way to come back the exhibition afterwards.
Kids really loved it. Its a bit short, but worth visiting for sure
Really interesting. Kids loved the boat ride.
a very lovely place to know Portugual history. inspire, interactive and informational museum.
World of DisappointmentZero value for money, the attraction is very short. Zero organisation. Waiting times crazy. The whole family extremely disappointed.
Nice museum, you can quickly learn something about portugese explorations all around the world. Boat ride is nice. Touchpads with informations are placed too low, your head is constantly leaned downside. And they are not really responsive to fingers.
That was a good and relaxing experience but dont come there if you really want to learn something new (except if youre a beginner on Portugal history)
One of the best museum experiences Ive had. Interactive week with small film, big touch screens with loads of information regarding myths, roles on a big ship, what life was like, commodities of the time, etc. Everything is backed up by visual models, and theres even a boat tour underlining the major points of exploration!
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️Amazing experience. It was very enjoyable to see all the rooms and be able to interact with the things you were learning. The audio guide was good and you only need one for a group. Very informative and fun for the kids! The water ride at the end teaches the children alot but is still a new and exciting experience. The tickets are reasonably priced for a museum in the center of the city!Go there, its great!
It’s a great museum/ ride . It’s inter-active telling the history of Portugal and how the ships evolved. I wish it appeared on the map the hotels pass out do more people would find it. We found it in the more drained map from the visitor information center.
Very outdated decor, but still vibrant enough our child enjoyed it. Covered in another review, there isnt any coverage of slavery beyond adding an icon of a slave in a list of what was taken from Africa along with crops. There were graphic images (arrow through a mans neck in the river boat journey), so going over something macabre shouldnt be overlooked.
A very good surprise. The exposition is interactive and very intuitive. It is suited for both adults and child. Though the price is higher than other Porto’s museum, it’s worth it.
We liked this museum very much in Porto. Even if you are not museum lover you should visit this place. It also includes a tiny automated boat trip taking you from Porto to different places in Africa and the island in Atlantic and then to kollikode, India and further to china, Brazil etc. Very nice, enjoyed a lot.
Very well done interactive displays. The boat ride was a great treat and very informative. Really enjoyed.
Interesting but not quite worth the €15 entry in my opinion. The boat ride at the end was fun. It was quite quiet when we were there (Fri morning)
Great place to visit. The boat ride is just great. Gives you an overall view of the boat traveling the Portuguese did to give new worlds to the world.
Great history museum with lots to see. The boat ride is definitely the highlight of the museum. It’s a great water tour that showcases the important parts of Portuguese history.
Thoroughly enjoyed the experience.I think that its great for kids.My baby loved the boat ride and looking at the different people and animals of the countries Portugal traded with or colonized in the past. There are a few things that they could fix but I guess visitors would break them again anyway if theres not a sign telling them to not touch.
Great place to take kids, my 4 year old loved it.Wouldn’t bother with the restaurant upstairs, menu is very limited and not kid friendly. None of us enjoyed what we ordered.
Good artefacts and boat ride Good fun for kids, although there was one part that scared my 9 year old.
We bought a combo ticket with the 6 bridges boat tour. There was no queue when we arrived at the ticket office. The writing part wasnt so interesting. However, the boat part was great, especially with small kids.We were waiting too long though to get into the boat, but the staff already warned us at the beginning. Its just a bit weird that theres only one way to go and how the queue line is structured is too narrow so its either not possible or comfortable for strollers to go through these lines.
It’s a fairly interesting museum however if you don’t have allot of time in Porto I would avoid this attraction- waiting crushed in line to the entry to the main ride for over 45mins is not worth it.
A bit pricey at $15 but cool interactive exhibits and the boat ride is very cool! No wait when we went on Wednesday
Queued for 20 minutes then told there was a 2 hour wait for the boat ride. Need better communication with customers. Two members of staff dealing with one customer at a time.
Very nice place, weve been here with kids and the museum was not boring at all. Especially the part were you sit into the boat and go through different countries (as its usually in horror rooms for kids)
This is definitely a "must see once in your life" place. At the beginning the different ships are shown, as well as the navigation at that time. In the further course you get more and more the feeling to dive into the time. Not only the ambience helps, but also the very lifelike figures. The highlight, however, is the boat trip through the various eras of portuguese seafaring. And if you are still hungry after the visit, you can enjoy the very generous portions in the restaurant.
Really cool museum, wasn’t sure what to expect but the ride was very interesting and fun to go on. Reasonable price too.
Lots of potential but boat screen was broken and the museum is starting to show signs of degrading in the boat area. Nice 1st time but not likely to come back again until things are fixed and looking like it had some maintenance done as otherwise its not worth the price.
Definitely one of our top 10 family-friendly museums! Excellent educational and economical value. A must-see in Porto!
If you are willing to learn about the discoveries that the Portuguese sailors made, this is a quick one hour stop to inform yourself about it. You get a 20 minute boat ride at the end through the various parts of the world, making it very interesting especially for kids. It is an interactive museum, so I would recommend it.
The only question I had being inside of this museum-what age is their target audience? For adults-it’s too unrealistic and I would say even boring. For kids (ours are 7 y.o.it’s not informative to hear some historical facts. All the decoration is very basic. For me it was a waste of 15 euros/person for ~15 minute experience. Wouldn’t recommend this place.
Really great experience for kids. 4/5 for adults. Still, worth visiting!
The musem itself is not very big. You have 2 or 3 rooms before you get the interactive experience (some videos or information text in these rooms was in Portugueseonly, so as foreign speakers we felt somewhat missing out. The experience normally has a queue so you need to be ready to spend some time there, especially if you have a school trip before you. The interactive experience is great. You are on an automated boat that takes you through the museum at a slow pace and tells you the history of Portuguese travels. It was really fun.
Interesting place for anyone with an interest in portugese history. The interior was well decorated and the information provided was short and on point.Interactive enough for kids of all agesBut be warned, the boat ride at the end can get scary for toddlers. Pretty sure my 2yo will be having some nightmares for the next few nights!
This museum has two parts. The first half is a walk through exhibition which has lots of interactive screens where you can select different characters (such as the captain of a ship or the cookand learn more about them and the Portuguese explorers. The second half is a 15 or so minute ride on a “boat” where you are taken on a ride along a miniature river. It’s worth taking the first half slowly as otherwise you come to an unexpected abrupt end after the river ride concluded!
Definitely a different kind of museum experience and a fun boat ride at the end. The employees were very friendly, too. However, reading the different informational pieces took a lot of time ans was boring at times (therefore maybe not suitable for kidsand the prices were a bit more expensive than suited.
Great interactive museum for the whole family. We learned about the history of building ships in Portugal, which later discovered many countries
Very interesting and creative exhibitions, covering a vast amount of history and geography. Very interactive, good for kids (and adults - I am 22 and had lots of fun). The highlight was the boat ride. 22 minutes through various scenes all over the world. Beautifully designed. Felt like I was on a Disney ride. It is very slow though, so not scary at all.My only criticism is that the history is a very pro-Portuguese perspective, and glosses over some of the more contentious aspects. The boat ride history ends with the Portuguese conquest of Brazil, and the establishment of mining industries and sugar plantations but makes no mention whatsoever of slavery or war - 2 central aspects of Portuguese imperial and mercantile power. Im a History student so it stuck out to me that the rest of the place was really detailed and meticulous when it came to things like navigational instruments, life at sea, and trade, but something as big (and admittedly difficult to handle but necessaryas slavery wasnt mentioned.Otherwise great fun, definitely recommend!
Definitely worth visiting!!! The beginning of the exposition is nice but at the end something breathtaking is waiting for you- a boat tour (in real water!!!throughout a Portuguese history. Capturing, informative, spectacular!
A lot of interesting information to read and to see. Great boad ride.
A great experience to live and discove the Portuguese great history in exploring the world. The journey includes an immersive trip using a small boat which is the best part. Although the finishing of some experiments was not as expected but the total experience is great and rally fair for the price.
Amazing experience, worth visiting if you like 22 minutes of boat ride with interactive museum having multiple themes including Portuguese exploration to different countries by sea route, boat ride also has some surprise elements !
A truly fun and interesting attraction which reveals so much of Portugals history. It was fascinating to learn how integral Portugal was in discovering foreign land, cultures, and paving the way for trade routes between east and west civilisations. The canal boat ride through the ages was the highlight. Being indoors, this is a good option if the weather is bad.
What attracted me to this place was the boat trip, which was great. The rest of the museum contained a lot of written information regarding Portugal and many of its important personalities. For me it was a little bit too much info in the second room😔
This is quite expensive, 2 adults and 1 child for 30 euros, which they say includes a discount. There are 4 rooms to visit, they explain or show the age of discoveries, the interior of a ship and what if carried and a shipyard. They are ok, but more interactivity like playing games would help beyond the touch screens which just provide info. The boat ride is the key part, it is arranged nicely, but as you watch and listen you wonder if really those nations would not have been better off (Portuguese built mines, gave them guns and ammo and others not mentioned here). Nice, but definetely overpriced for us.
Thanks to the rainy day I went to the World of Discoveries! Finally, I could learn about ships I used to play with in video games when I was a teenager. And a boat cruise made me feel excited as I’m 6 years old.
Interactive museum of the Portuguese discoveries. There is a lot of information without any of the tedium of other museums with sections on boat building, living conditions on board and historic figures all well presented in multilingual interactive displays, culminating in a voyage in small boats around the discovered lands. Excellent for adults and children. Highly recommended.
There are a lots of things to touch and see.We learn a lot there . There is also a water-ride. I didnt like the fact that on the water-ride they only let four people onboard. They didnt fill up the boats so we had to wait for such a long time.It was too expensive.
Great way to know the history of the Portuguese discoveries from the 14th, 15th and 16th century. It’s a very interactive and interesting way to know a very important part of the Portuguese history. I loved the boat travel. From outside it’s impossible to predict the size of the exhibition inside. It was really great.
