Winery - Vivanco Museum of Wine Culture - Winery in Logrono, Spain
No wonder this has won the price for best wine museum. The 5 spaces are well structured and thought outs and follow a logical approach to understand the world of wine. The sheer amount of artefacts they have, some of which are massive, can feel overwhelming. But they are all very well explained with sign in Spanish and English, and so it becomes quite an entreating voyage, from the growth of the grape and its history, to the opening and savouring of the wine. The restaurant, bar and shop are also quite good. If you can, have a rest after the museum in the terrace as you sip in one of their delicious wines.
Espectacular.
For me as a wine blogger this heaven! Fantastic collection presented in the most professional way. If you visit the Rioja region this is a must. Beautiful situated close to the ciudad Briones and mountains in the background of the wine valley.
You will enjoy several rooms that explain wine production from the vineyard to the bottle. Moreover, there are some collections of special pieces, such as corkscrews. You can also find an exquisite display of different works of art, including pictures by Miró, Juan Gris... Antiques from Ancient Rome, Greece and Egypt. A unique opportunity you shouldnt miss.
Amazing!!
A very special winery where we are very welcomed
Matilde gave us an amazing tour. High quality wines.
The wine tour was ok, good altogether although we had a relatively big group. The better part of the experience was the museum itself.
Excellent museum on the culture, history, and methods of wine. Beautiful vineyard. Very little of it is in English, however. There’s an app you can download with an audio guide, which I’m sure is nice if you have the time — but some English writing would be great. The wine isn’t anything special for the region, though. Really, none of the whites or reds stood out in either taste or bouquet. At the same time they’re generally priced higher than better wines in the area. There’s nothing wrong with them, but they’re just.. bland.Visit the museum, absolutely, but drop the wine and pick another nearby winery.
Beautiful museum and wonderful tour. I would recommend everybody who is visiting the Rioja valley to pay a visit.
Very bad experience withVivanca Winery. I Made à reservation online and paid online, but since the payment was not received by Vivanca I had to pay again. The money was taken from my account. The man at the counter couldn’t help. I have to sort things out myself. Thank you very much.
Impressive place. They gave my group a quick tour in less than two hours, but one could spend days on it.
Nice museum and the winery need to be seen
Interesting exhibits of history of wine and industry of wine making. They have several historical artifacts and works of art which are beautiful. Works of art by Picasso, Chagall and Warhol. They sell food and wine here and also wine at the gift shop.
Very good
A first class visit. A highlight of our holiday.
The museum is excellent although none of the text is written in English. It’s an extremely interesting view into the history of wine production and wine consumption (the corkscrew collection is fantastic). My review is so low however because the wine tasting was abysmal. I have never had this many Barrique wines in a row that I just didn’t like. Our group found one of the white wines tasted like sewer water, while our least favorite red wine smelled and tasted like pickles. My verdict: definitely visit the museum, but save the tasting money for the amazing local family wineries which far surpass in taste and bouquet. We spent 40€ for tasting 16 glasses, of which multiple were the same wine - for that price you can buy 12 bottles a few hundred meters down the road.
Museum is great, however price is quite expensive (cheapest option is 16,5€). It feels like for that price something else should be included (wine tasting, free coffee.. whatever).I mean, the museum definitely has interesting stuff, but other museums of this quality are cheaper or even free.Anyways if you are visiting La Rioja this is an excellent example of how much we care about wine here.
We booked a tour with some friends looking forward to the wine tasting but it turned out that our tour guide Gemma was what made our morning even more special. Many thanks for making us understand wine and it’s history so much better.
We came here just to visit the Bodega and it was a really lovely morning!
We had the most unbelievable day when Vivanco wine export manager John Perry was contacted by our friend, the owner of the Charlottesville Wine Guild in Virginia, USA, and told we would be visiting Rioja. John gave us the most amazing tour of the unparalleled wine museum on the ground of Vivanco. We also got to examine the soil around the vineyard and learn about the particular growing environments that add to the excellent modern style wines coming from Vivanco. As well as seeing the state of the art wine making facility and barrel rooms. After this we then enjoyed an amazing traditional 3 course lunch with wine. This day was truly the experience of a lifetime, and I say that after visiting 100s of vineyard over the years.
Absolutely wonderful. Super recommended experience.
Well-designed museum of all wine related, from tools to art.
Fantastic museum (enough said by other reviewers on this point). As for the gift shop, careful about the confusing pricing schemes for the tastings and less than helpful employees. They offer free tasting if you purchase 3 bottles, but apparently the Reserva is not part of the Colección Vivanco and this point was conveniently omitted, so they charged us for the tasting regardless of the fact that we bought 6 bottles of the Reserva. For context, we are native Spanish speakers...
Absolut sensational tour of 2,5hrs through museum and winery incl tasting of different wines. Loved it!! Learnt so much about the different wines, grapes, storage of the wines etc. I can only recommend it!
In-depth underground museum with many videos and period pieces on display for all parts of winemaking. There is an app with multiple languages but all displays write ups are in Spanish. I took about two hours solo but there is also a guided tour in English.
Great. Impressive. But, it would be very thoughtful to have the museum piece descriptions in English also. Now there is nothing, just an "audio guide" to download onto your phone... Other than that, a very impressive private and large museum.
This family has an impressive museum dedicated to wine. It takes you from the historical beginnings of wine in the world, over 8,000 years ago. It has dramatic videos of the production of wines. It has a huge collection of the ancient and modern equipment used in the production of wine. The museum is over 40,00 square feet. Here you can see the corkscrew collection of the Vivanco Museum of the Culture of Wine, consisting of close to 3500 pieces that show the evolution and diversity of this apparently simple instrument. We downloaded the tour narrative to our phones and we walked for 90 minutes amazed at the information and we only heard 1/2 of the story. This is a place where anyone who respects and likes wine could spend 3-4 hours seeing all the fascinating items in the collection.Totally recommend, but spend more time. There are guided tours by the staff, but they blow through in less than 90 minutes.
Excellent museum but it would be better if the descriptions of the items on display were also in English and described what they did and how they fitted into the process
Very informative and well presented. Excellent reception! The gentleman on reception booked us a taxi, then found us in the museum to let us know it would be half an hour later than he expected. Great service!
The history of wine in an afternoon. Well worth a visit
Amassing. Picasso. 100
Very nice museum for the entire family!
Absolutely wonderful experience. I had my 2 young kids and there was enough for them to be entertained. I was thoroughly entertained and could have spent 3 hours there. The app is great too. The wines were excellent too. I bought several. Well worth the money
An amazing experience.
Wow. This is a truly first class museum. I must admit that I thought the entry fee was a bit ambitious, but no, it was worth every penny. Covering all aspects of wine making, with some really remarkable exhibits. First class
Interesting as museum. You need at least 2 hours to visit.
Museo Vivanco is an excellent starting point for a tour of the La Rioja wine region. Their cellar is amazing, as are some of the historical artifacts and art pieces in the Vivanco collection. The bodegas in Laguardia and Elciego are also within easy driving distance from this location.
Exceptional and extensive collection
Absolutely amazing museum. And beautiful scenery!
Incredibly cool museum
The best wine museum I have been to! Its an amazing experience! Highly recommended!
Amazing place. Really recommend you stopping there.
I loved it
Great guide, location, winery
Perfect bodega tour
We took a road trip with another couple through Spain starting at San Sebastian driving non main roads to LaGuardia and south. We stayed at the Hospedederia de Los Parajes in LaGuardia and they recommended that we visit the museum. We are originally from the Napa Valley in California, USA, are fairly knowledgeable about wines and vineyards - this museum is one of the most outstanding winery museums we have seen. We will recommend it to anyone that visits the area. The photography, artwork, history, and story was over the top. We did not wine taste at the museum, but then discovered a Vivanco in Sevilla and now are huge fans!!! Thank you for your passion....its contagious!!
