18th-century riverside windmill with scenic views, an educational museum & guided tours.
Wonderful sunlight and city view from this mil.
Windmills are an engineering miracle. Its fascinating how they are built and how they operate. Our tour guide was wonderful and gave us so many little nuggets of information. Really worth the visit and it has a lovely view of Haarlem from the viewing deck. Also, dont be afraid to ask questions. You get more tidbits of very interesting information. Loved it!
Amazing place to visit, the volunteers work really hard to make your trip magical, explained very detailed models on display. Lovely pub for food and drink next to it
Great sight to see
Wonderful tour! Hugo was excellent!! Very worthwhile!!!
Probably the best thing I’ve done in the Netherlands. The windmill works and we got a demonstration of stopping the mill to adjust the wings
I didnt expect the tour requirement, and that it was more of a museum than a quick attraction but it was cool to learn the history and the old folks caring for it at the time were very kind and knowledgeable.
This big windmill gives Haarlem a special beauty.
Very impressive to go inside the working mill. Excellent guide who was able to demonstrate all of the models and explain all the functions.
One of the main symbols of Haarlem however I thought it left much to be desired. Perhaps there is some strong history behind this windmill but if you are some random tourist like myself you will not be wowed by this windmill. It is kind of nice that it sits on a canal I guess.
Gorgeous spot to relax after a long day
Take the tour! Amazing knowledgeabout windmills, models to view moving parts, and history of Haarlem and the windmills purpose over the years
calm and beautiful landmark in Haarlem, you can see the city view on top of windmillMay 27, 2022
It may be a simple and short tour but I love it. The guide, Ben, is really nice and friendly. We went up to the windmill for 5euros, it was an eye opening. Ben explained the histories, purposes of windmills and how they are operated. There are nice cafes nearby, next to the waters, a cool place to chill for sure!
Short but sweet tour with an excellent tour guide
Cool little windmill to go look round. Its not big and doesnt take long, but also doesnt cost much at all to visit. Interesting how the iconic Dutch windmills work inside. The tour guides were really nice too!
We were playing geocaching here and we didnt know the answer so we asked elderly couple inside and they also didnt know... So they were very exciting and cute cuz they wanted to find the answer... Very beautiful place and awesome experience tho :)
It’s a cute windmill!Came for the Dutch landscape aesthetic, and this is exactly what I got! Though I couldn’t enter the windmill, I was happy to get a nice view of the area.
Wonderful place, the windmill is unique specially bcouse U can climb on the platform ( with quide).
This windmill is close to Haarlem railway station. Very well maintained. Very informative at the windmill.
Very interesting tour. Fantastic views over the city
My friends and I had a wonderful time exploring the Molen de Adriaan while we were in Haarlem. We opted for the longer tour and are so thankful that we did, because we got to learn about the inner workings of the windmill, and even watched the miller stop the windmill in real time. Our guide was friendly and super knowledgeable about the history of the structure and the importance of windmills in literally shaping the Netherlands. If you make it to Haarlem, dont pass this gem by - its worth the visit!
We cane here on our first day in Haarlem. Totally worth visiting. The guide (a volunteerwas a delight to listen to. The history is fascinating. And i got to see the millers do their work.
Best experience in town, the tour was really nice and totally worth it. The tour guide was extremely friendly
The tour guide was really friendly and the explanations he gave us about the windmill were very interesting. I had a great experience overall and would recommend everyone to take this tour.
Really nice tour, the men at the counter and the tour guide were really friendly and nice. They explained the whole history of the mill and demonstrated how it worked. 100% worth of your money
Got a tour here forgot his name but the tour guide was great he was very passionate about the subject of windmills and gave a great a really great tour guide
Beautiful and educational site to visit. We went with our school age kids and it was wonderful experience. Must visit once for sure!
Perfect view! I always want to take some photos of this windmill!
A good place to visit, just walk around the windmill and it will give you nice views for your Instagram pictures. I would call it a perfect place for touristy photos. This is a museum, you can also go in and they will tell you how windmill works.
Beautiful place to stop by, admire and enjoy the weather
If youre taking a day trip from Amsterdam to Haarlem, it should definitely be your first stop.
Great fun, well worth a visit. Michael our volunteer guide was so funny and knows everything. The windmill is a reconstruction and houses s museum, but you learn a lot and great views.
The place is beautiful, withholding rich Dutch culture and history. You can get a nice guide through the mill for just 5 euros. The souvenirs are cheap as well. And the staff is really sweet and helpful. A must must must see in the beautiful city of Haarlem.
Beautiful windmill with beautiful guide and history. The souvenirs are very cheap as well. They have a map of windmills in Netherlands, quite fascinating. We were shown the whole history of windmill development, technology it bears and how to operate it. Totally recommend the tour
Very nice tour on the history and inner working of the Windmill. Highly recommand
A must visit place when you are in Haarlem. Have a good walk by the river or take a boat tour, the place looks stunning
I had a great time visiting Windmill De Adriaan. I highly recommend taking the tour, as youll get so much more out of it than wondering around the windmill on your own. It was both fun and educational. I learned a lot about how windmills work and the history of their use in the Netherlands.
One of the interesting things to see in Haarlem is Molen de Adriaan, a traditional Dutch windmill built along the river in the city centre in 1778.This is a beautiful windmill to view when sightseeing around the city. You can see and take nice pictures of Molen de Adriaan from across the river, while taking boat rides as well as from up close, just in front of the monument windmill. It has been a part of the Haarlem skyline for several centuries. Sadly, the original windmill burned down in 1932. What you see now is a reconstruction completed 70 years after the disastrous fire. The Molen de Adriaan windmill was opened to the public in 2002. If you are interested, there is a small museum in the windmill (€5 per adultthat you can visit. Opening days and hours change during the year so check their website for specifics.
We had a great time thanks to the nice and well prepared guide :The guided tour was fun and the entry ticket definitely worth its price. The mill is very interesting and offers a great view of the city, its a must-see if you are visiting Haarlem. Thank you for the experience!
Best Windmill tour ever. They take pride in this and it shows. It is kept very clean and organized. You must purchase a tour as it can better curate the experience. It is difficult to get a "frontal" picture of the windmill, but you will be able to walk around easily. I learned more about windmills from here than any other attraction. Go enjoy!
Had a very Informational tour of this windmill, superb views when you get to the top.If your ever in Haarlem you have to take a tour
A beautiful place, closed when we visited. A little piece of Dutch history. Would have loved to enter.
I leaned a lot about windmills. It was 5€ for entrance and the tour. The tour was about 30 min and quite informative. Nice view from the deck.
The windmill is beautiful. The entrance is ridiculously cheap, and you get to learn a lot of interesting information. The view is very nice too. However, the tour guide was incredibly rude, to me and my friend. She said things such as; "We are in the most free country in the world so I can say whatever I want" and "We are almost communists here" (have you experienced communism lady?!), "Tell me where youre from so I can see how to treat you". She kept poking at me and my friend to tell her where we came from, and when we said Utrecht, she started questioning what language were we speaking. I snapped and asked her "How is this relevant for the tour". The other people joining the tour seemed very pleased with my answer and even applauded. Her response was "I dont usually drink, but today I will need a drink". Very very rude.I am sad I could not enjoy this experience to the fullest.
Lovely historic mill with guided tours. Only 3.50 euro. The guide was quite knowledgeable and the view is lovely
Lovely place to visit! The guided tour is very interesting and the view from the top isnt to be missed.
We had a great time here. The tour is not expensive, only €3.50 pp. it is short but lots of good info. you get to climb the windmill, learn how it operates and its historical significance in holland. Tours offered in English too. Note that this is a replica as the original burnt down in the 1930s and rebuilt in 1999
Highly recommended experience. I finally had the chance to see inside of a wind mill and learn how it works. I found it super exciting. The staff are all volunteers and treated us nicely. Our guide was a nice elderly gentleman and tried to explain everything thoroughly. However, he frequently had a hard time finding English word to describe the process which made us guess some of the parts. Otherwise it would have been a 5 star experience.Price was €3.5 per person. Twice a week they have the millers working in there . I dont know the days. But its worth finding out if youre interested.
Cool windmill, but probably better to see it from across the canal than right underneath it.
