Set in Helena's last bordello, this pub serves seafood & steak, plus a long list of microbrews.
Food was delicious, we had the Buffalo chicken and a cheeseburger. If you have a stroller you cant enter the restaurant easily as you have to have two people to lift the stroller over 3 to 4 steps. Because of this we asked to sit outside and were lied to that they were not doing outside seating on a beautiful 80° day. This seemed very odd to us and 15 minutes into our meal we noticed most of the tables outside were now taken and being served food. Food is expensive but good.
What a charming location, the pub macaroni and cheese is just simply amazing. All the other food and cocktails are wonderful.Amazing location in the Helena downtown by a lot of nifty shops. With a rich history, origin story in the Helena area Id highly recommend visiting the Windbag Saloon and Grill.
The food so delicious especially the appetizer of the fried enchiladas my new favorite!! The atmosphere is like youre not in Helena. Its amazing and the waitress was wonderful.
Visited this place on 13Sep2022 along with one of the friend.Bar tender doesn’t know how to mix the drinks. We came here because of the friend’s daughter birthday and he given party to me because of that.I took 4 drinks, they merely have alcohol in it and they all feel overly sweet. My stomach filled with full of these useless sweetened drinks .Fully disappointed. We have visited GOLD BAR few days back which Is 1000 times better than this.
This was my second visit. Im giving 4 stars in the event it was just an off night. The first time I went back in December it was amazing, the staff was wonderful and took their time enough to get the food correct and give good service. And the food was fantastic! This time was a bit more chaotic. I ordered the poutine and was surprised in not a good way of how it was served. There was about 1/4-1/2 inch thick "crust" of mozzarella cheese. When it should have been cheese curds. A small handful of fries lay beneath this crust and the gravy haphazardly dumped above the cheese never made it down to the fries. I had to peel the catastrophe that was cheese from the bowl and order another gravy for my 14.00 fries. No green onions just way over priced mozzarella fries. Not impressed. The staff was attempting to be attentive but it kinda came off as screaming and rushing around due to the crowd. Im going to visit once more, since Ive seen the kind of food and service this place is capable of. Hopefully this was an off night. We travel from Great Falls to eat here.
We had some service issues at Windbag--the item I ordered wasnt available and the server didnt bring a menu when she came with the bad news; the runner brought our food, but we didnt have napkins and cutlery and it took a long time to get them.My husband *loved* his sandwich of grilled tuna with pesto. The fish in my tacos was fried to petrification.
Literally the worst service Ive ever had. 30 minutes at the table before drink order was taken. 45 minutes to receive drinks. An hour for the appetizers. Food came out wrong and missing items. Manager graciously took 20% off the bill which hardly compensated for the 2 hours and 45 minutes that I cant get back in my life for sub par food and horrible service.
Nice place, fun atmosphere, great service..I Loved the bottomless Bloody Mary Bar...However I would pass on the tuna steak. I had to send mine back as it was way overcooked, they tried to make it right by making me a new one, but the flavor was just off!! Id give the place another try, as Ive heard they have good food, just NOT the tuna!!! Id never order that again!!
They have the big pretzel back... Yay!!! Yum! Have never had a problem with the food, always a good meal! Service left something to be desired. Sat for a long time waiting to order drinks. When we got our drinks we ordered an appetizer, which took so long that our food came out very quickly after it. Been a while since the service has nailed it. Not ready to give up yet.
Food was okay but a bit disappointing. Fries came to the table barely warm and the upgrade to Parmesan fries not worth it - just sprinkled on top and didn’t stick to the fries. Caesar salad tasted like it had sat out for 20 minutes. Fried fish was okay. Service was slow but good otherwise.
We enjoyed it! My son, the wing expert rated the buffalo wings 5/5 stars. The fish and chips were excellent, and the Montana dip was good. My husband’s sweet potato fries were a bit underdone but overall food was very good. The service was very good as well, quick drinks and I appreciate knowing when someone is in training.
Great food & drinks in an historic building with an interesting past. Decor & menu almost seems like a chain (professional, well designed, etcbut I don’t think it is. The Montana Dip sandwich was amazing. Bartender made a legit old fashioned. We liked this place so much for lunch we came back for cocktails later the same day! (That and it seemed to be the only bar open past 8:30pm on a Monday)
Food was amazing, the Black &Blue burger is delicious. Great place to have lunch.
Having the food here and the pretzel I would say the pretzel won’t disappoint. Yes it is in a pizza box. Probably one of the best pretzels I have ever had. A good use of 16 bucks.Staff was friendly and helpful and we received food in reasonable about of time.
Overrated. The fish n chips - just no. Smelled fishy and tasted bad. Our waitress was just all over the place. Had to chase her down at one point. Husbands waffle fries were cooked to the point they were almost black. Downtown is great but I would skip this place.Even though the fish made me sick the waitress tried to charge us for it. She said she offered me something else. That doesn’t make it ok. We waited 45 minutes for our food. I was ready to go. Then she made us wait to take it off. It took half hour to check out. My husband is easy going as they come. He was livid when he left there. Do not recommend.
Love eating here! Great atmosphere and the food is absolutely yummy!!
Jamie was an amazing server, and I’d highly recommend the cheese curds! Great service and good food! Beer was a little warm, so that kind of disappointed. Great location and great vibes!
Varied menu, local beer and cocktails made with spirits from local distillerys. Outdoor seating in the evening is great.
Really enjoyed our food and service. We were only in Helena for a day and a half and we ended up eating here twice in that time because we liked it so much and the menu was huge with so many great options. If I lived in this area, it would definitely be a regular spot.
I had the Black & Blue Burger with Sweet Potato Fries. That was great. My friend had Gyro (very goodand garlic Parmigiano Fries...pretty bland because there was only a little cheese and seasoning in the middle. Atmosphere is good and service was fast and friendly. Waited a little to be seated but there is a seated waiting area. Menu has a big variety and prices are very reasonable. Will be back soon!
We ordered Mac cheese with fried chicken and bacon cheese burger. The fired chicken was hard and dry but the Mac cheese was okay. The waitress asked us how do you want have your burger cooked? We said “medium “ but it came well done. A little bit disappointed. Service was good.
Delicious pub food and great atmosphere. Staff are very friendly. The gyro was just the right amount of food. We always get the poutine to start, who doesnt like fries with cheese and gravy?
Drinks were good, poured a real double. Services was good, not great, but good. Food was ok, the 4 burgers we ordered were all done cooking about 5 minutes before they were taken off the grill, WAY overcooked.
The Windbag Saloon is a fantastic lunch spot in downtown Helena. Steeped in old west history, coupled with modern drinks, decor, and food options, there are few places better in the area. Beyond all that, our server Faith, was amazing! She had a bright and fun attitude, was incredibly helpful, and polite. I would come back again, if only for the world class service from Faith.
JAMIE SLAYED!!!! get her the recognition she deserves. my salad was pretty good too.
Food and drinks were delicious, atmosphere was fun and inviting. Our server, Faith, was cheerful, welcoming, and did a wonderful job! Definitely check it out!
I love the Windbag. The service is awesome and the employees are very friendly. The staff works well as a team. I know from working there it is clean and orderly. I highly recommend the fish tacos and any of there specialty drinks. Their patio is great and I’m looking forward to the speak easy! Cheers
We were driving through and wanted a good place to eat. The food and service were amazing
The menu looked fantastic and prices were reasonable but the actual food was really disappointing. I had fish tacos. They were completely cold and dry. Very little flavor. Service was exceptionally slow, with more than an hour passing from the time we were seated until food arrived. Very loud environment.
Good food but took forever. We sat down at 7:40pm and didnt leave until almost 10:00pm we never got asked if we wanted another drink. The waitress seemed to not want to deal with us. Not unlike the last time we came here. Great food but the service was lacking.
We went at 2:45 on a Tuesday. For some reason, the waitress kept talking to the people at the window table. It took her ten minutes to take our order. We ordered the fish and chips. They were over-cooked, burnt and greasy. When I tried to find the waitress to get more tartar sauce, she was back at the window table yakking. I had to ask another lady, who I believe to be the evening hostess for more tartar sauce. She brought one tartar sauce for the two of us. By this time, the grease had really set into the fish and fries. I had to peel off the heavy burnt batter and just eat the fish. I finally had to get up and leave because the time on my meter was expiring. And again, the waitress was at the window table???!!! I guess if you want better service, sit at a window table?! I wont be back.
This place seems like it is busy any day of the week during dinner time. The outdoor seating is pleasant on temperate days. The staff were friendly and my waitress was attentive to my questions about their gluten free options. They have access to gluten free buns, noodles, and no croutons on the salad options.
Not really crowded upon arrival. Took awhile to be seated. Waited for an hour for breakfast to be served. Half of our food was cold the other was freshly cooked. Not worth the wait. Maybe lunch menu was better seemed to get crowded later and people got meals quicker after 12. Not sure if I’d say must try it.
Lunch with a good friend was extremely disappointing. Waitress serving us was very unfriendly and inefficient. I ordered hot tea and no teaspoon was ever given. I had to ask again for the side of ranch dressing that I requested. (The lady delivering our lunches was very helpful though. We were given two sets of silverware and napkins, yet we already had them. I will not visit the Windbag for quite a while.
Windbag use to have the best burger we’ve ever ordered about 3 months ago… but something changed, and now every meal we’ve ordered has been a mistake. Even the nachos are regrettable. Their Soda is constantly flat, there are up charges for dipping sauces that go with the meal, and the place is usually understaffed. It’s such a shame because this place use to be the best in town.
A shadow of its former self. The Windbag was always reliable - good food, friendly competent waitstaff and pleasant atmosphere. Now, not so much. For dinner, it took the server 15 minutes to inform us that they were out of what we ordered. The fish we received after a long wait was burnt, not overcooked, but burnt. The next day, met someone for a business lunch. Ordered the special - grilled cheese and tomato soup. Not very special! Sandwich was cold and the spoon could of stood up in the soup. I miss the old Windbag.
The new brunch menu and drinks were so good. Great customer service! We love the Windbag!
Awesome service by Dallas. Food was to die for, I had fried enchiladas...Grilled cheese and tomato soup was so good and tasty. Awesome ambiance. I love the building.
Love this place! Great Food and today our waitress,Jaime, was awesome! This is a must stop on every trip to Helena. Thanks again and see you next time.
Super cool spot for drinks and food! The staff are very attentive even when slammed. Drinks are well made and there is a decent selection of beers on hand too. Food is EXCELLENT! The hardest thing is deciding what exactly to eat! Everything we had was amazing! The Adult macaroni and cheese comes in several varieties and was a big hit at our table.
Cute place and has specials every day. Went here on a Friday night and there was live music. Highly recommend the Gyro and side salad was very fresh. My boyfriend said the wings were pretty good and recommends the drunken chicken sauce!
Stopped here for lunch on our road trip passing through Helena! Got the fish tacos and filibuster fries and was so full from appetizers I could only finish one taco! Food was delicious
Cool place and general area of Helana. Rather loud but family friendly with good food and great drink selection. Also good draft options.
40 minute wait, not handicapped accessible as we have a 4yr old in a wheelchair, good thing we can pick him up. Place is really cool and food was excellent as it shows by the wait in line. They ran out of fish so we tried the Havana to Helena a Cuban which was really good, the wife tried the Gyro which was really good as well. We dont drink so we didnt try any beer. Sports bar type setting kids are welcome.
We ordered the spicy burger (forgot its actual nameand the pork bbq mac and cheese. The service was fantastic- didn’t take too long or anything- and the server was super friendly. -1 star as they charged too much for the side salad, but the food itself was five star.
I wanted to try everything on the menu! We had the enchilada bites. Mmm! 10/10 highly recommend! The roasted salsa was so good we could drink it. We liked it so much we came back later and got the Friday fish and chips special! Mmm! AGAIN! Im kinda glad I dont live here. I would eat here way too often. Thanks for the great food and atmosphere!
Before I get to the negative stuff, the bartenders were very courtesy and hard working, great job.The food can be summed up as "stadium" quality. The menu described the chips and queso as "house-made chips" with "our signature cheese sauce." The chips were something that could be bought in a bag from Safeway, and the cheese looked like it had been oozed out of a luke-warm sack from a 7-Eleven gas station. The chicken fingers were of the same quality.Very loud music inside, and they dont serve food to anyone sitting on the outdoor patio (you have to place a to-go order for some reason).
Had the Mac & Cheese burger and the Mac & Cheese bites. Everything tasted great. On my quest to eat a burger from every State this one definitely made the list. If I ever find myself back in Helena I will definitely be stopping by again.
This place has hands down been my go to since Ive landed in Helena. The atmosphere great! The food, great! And to top it all off the drink are nothing short of top notch. Below I have the extra dirty girl and the BBQ Brisket Beer Cheese Nachos.
We were able to seat ourselves rather quickly. Our waitress arrived with menus and took our drink order. Drinks arrived and placed out order. My salad arrived ask the gal that brought the salad for silverware; my wife asked her if they had sweet and low. She did not know but would ask. She never came back. Finally our waitress showed up. Got silverware, sweet and low. Food arrived from same gal as previous. Ask her if our daughter could get a refill. She said yes, but never returned. Waitress arrived and got refill.Recommendation is to have support staff take ownership or work with wait staff to address customer issues or assistance.Besides that the food was great. I had the Mac n cheese burger, my wife had the BLT and my daughter had the original Mac and cheese. She said it was very good. My burger was still hot after I ate my salad. I thought I may have waited too long. We also ordered the funnel fries. Nice sweet and tasty desert.
