Winay Wayna - Tourist attraction in Abancay, Peru
Our guide said it was the most beautiful site on the Incan trail, besides Machu Pichu. I 100% agree.
You can only get here by doing the 4 day 3 night hike with alpaca expeditions
The best Inca site on the Inca trail, apart from Machu Picchu. It has one big advantage - you practically have it to yourself.
Easy to find with Anacondor Tours
The point on the Inca 2 day hike were we knew we were gonna make it!!!😳
Surreal location. You can genuinely feel the energy here.
I did the last 12 kilometers of the Inca Trail... Well worth it. Walked through Wiña Wayna and then the sun gate to get an amazing view of Machu Picchu!
We hiked from KM 104 to Winay Wayna. It may been seen from the Inka Trail far side, looking close, but so far...Trail drops in altitude before one sees a nice waterfall. The stairs to the top of Winay Wayna take one’s breath away, but the site is outstanding. Worth the hike. Shorter hike to the Sun Gate follows....
Honestly, I enjoyed it more than Machu Picchu. Its fairly impressive and we practically had the place to ourselves.
Probably my favorite over Machu Picchu.
Mini macchu picchu so nice without the crazy tourist crowds!
Awesome experience visiting here, highly recommend a guide to get the full experience
What a beautiful, but almost impossible location for a settlement! A beautiful location because you look out over the narrow, winding valley of the Urubamba which flows some 500 meters lower. An impossible location because the Incas apparently once thought it a good idea to build a number of houses on a very steep slope and to construct dozens of narrow agricultural terraces somewhere in the vast green sea of the rainforest. Altogether the ideal formula for a small wonder.
First stop on our 2 day in a trail - pretty incredible architecture and views
Wonderful place, only visitable on foot. The stairs going up will kill your breath for a bit, but after that you are in for more breathtaking sights. This was one of the high points of our one day Inka trail, both because it is actually high up but also because its so breathtakingly beautiful here.According to our guide, approximately 10 families lived and worked there. I can only be in awe of people working there, as I could barely walk there, let alone walk...
An incredible inca settlement. You can get here by doing the inca trail.
Breathtaking! In your final steps towards Machu Picchu on the Inca Trail you will find this amazing city of Winay Wayna. It is surrounded by mountains and forest and seems like a place lost in time and space. Its terraces are impressive and very well-conserved and the local guides will explain the stories of the ruin. Youll indeed feel "Forever Young" and grateful that such beauty exists!
This is just before Sun Gate on the Inker trail and is the first real Inker site you see. Our guide gave us loads of information about the Inkers before but when you first see this is still is amazing and is good preparation for even betters sites like Sun Gate.
Absolutely worth the effort to get there! Provides a beautiful view of the valley!
Almost as good as Machu Picchu
Very intact genuine Incan site with little reconstruction, mostly preserved. The hike here through the rainforest was the best part though.
Stunning place. Arrived here from the Inca Trail.
Went here as part of our 4 day 3 night Inca trail trek and it is absolutely breathtaking. Its quite a large site and amazing to explore.
Really great place to see. Even better if you have a guide who knows the history of this place. Tough-ish to climb :)
Fantastic site very impressive. Also much quieter than Machu Pichu. Had it to ourselves.
Trekking the Inca Trail, this spectacular archeological site is a great preview of what awaits at Machu Pichu.
An absolutely incredible place along the 1 day Inka trek route. Almost empty and stunning location.
One of our favorite sites on the Inca trail
A wonderful place to explore & take great photos. Not as many people as Machu Picchu. Smaller, but less crowded which was very nice.
A hard walk......but worth it 👍
Fantastic place. Definitely worth a detour
One should definitely visit this place, if you are to visit Machu Picchu. This comes on the trail to Machu Picchu. A beautiful place filled with so much of mystery.
Worth the wslk.
Hiked the Inca Trail to Winay Wayna, and it was breathtaking.
Part of the one day trek to Machu Pichu.Very few tourists compared to Machu Pichu. You cant go there by car or bus. Hiking only.
Beautiful Inca site. Smaller than Machu Picchu, but more beautiful. Quiet and intact. Very worth to visit and stay
Stunning Inca city, little visited despite being around the corner from a campsite.
Worth it. A little scary but the view and adrenaline are worth it!
Like Machu Piccu but without the crowds. Mesmerising!
Make sure you take the stairs to the very bottom. Its looks very different looking up at it.
Winay wayna is on the trail to Machu Picchu if you start the hike at km 104.The hike is like climbing all the way to the top of the Empire State Building by stairs only. But when you arrive at winay wayna it’s all worth it. There are very few tourist at this site due to the difficulty getting there. There is a beautiful waterfall in the background and the irrigation system is still working . 4.13.2018
This was one of the most beautiful Inca structured we have seen during our (traditionalInca trail. It is build in a very beautiful way and it doesnt get very busy.
So beautiful and theres so many llamas up there too
Ill second the previous reviews saying that this place might be more enjoyable and spectacular than Machu Picchu. This is a beautifully terraced structure in the steep mountainside, surrounded by lush covered mountains. Its a beautiful place to sit and contemplate life as you look over the Andes. You get here and spend the night here before your final push to Machu Picchu.
This was an awesome inca site and can only be reached if you hike the inca trail so it is MUCH less crowded than Machu Picchu. However it is not as massive as Machu Picchu.
Beautiful place!
One of my favourites Inca ruins! If you take Inca trail to get here youll enjoy the quiet and beauty of this place.
Incredible place. I’d go as far as saying this is more spectacular than Machu Picchu. Less people, more free roaming and one of the best views I’ve ever seen, over the jungle:You get to this on the night of the 3rd day. Amazing place to sit and reflect over the last days of walking.
Wiñay Wayna is my favorite archaeological site along the Inca Trail, located next to the Wiñay Wayna campground. Many Inca Trail trekkers have no idea it even exists because their guides dont take them/tell them the site is literally attached to the campground.Machu Picchu will be packed full of tourists on your next days trek, so take advantage of how quiet this site is. Do the typical archaeological site exploration, but also take time to just sit and enjoy it. Reflect on your journey to date - how far youve come and what youre about to complete. Simply amazing!!!Two spots at Wiñay Wayna that made me fall in love with the site was one of the upper terraces and the small meditation platform at the bottom (outside of lowest house). Being able to sit in these two spots to simply enjoy my surrounds was like no other, which I highly recommend anyone that is able to take advantage of.
Wiñay Wayna is the archeological site neighbor to Machu Picchu that you reach on the Inca trail the day before you arrive at Machu Picchu. The name Wiñay Wayna was given to the ruin by the eminent Peruvian archaeologist, Dr. Julio C. Tello, which means "Forever young."The archeological site consist of upper and lower house clusters, interconnected by a long, precipitous staircase with accompanying fountain structures, often referred to as "baths."A large area of agricultural terraces lies just north of the house-staircase complex. The site is not unusual for those in this region: compact formations of architecture that conform to, and often take advantage of the local topography.
