Willow Waterhole in Channelview
Description
Privilege
Nice place, either running or walking I truly enjoy this place.
A Very Good Place to Be The Band was Outstanding . Cant Wait until April
Really enjoyed the festival its such a wonderful family environment
Enjoyed the Music Festival.
Love the location, the length of the park and the scenery. Great place to take a stroll but wish it had a section for a dog park.
MoreGreat park and walkways for families, couples, dogwalking etc. About 20ish parking spots with covered and uncovered picnic tables. Labeled trees and other plants as well intention of ensuring indengious plant and tree planting. A water foundation is available for both passersby and for dogs which we love.
MoreVery pretty not too busy.
I recently discovered this place! I love how peaceful it is!!! Careful because theres gators! But the walk has amazing views you wont believe how close you are to the freeway! Plus they have some beautiful wooden artwork to take nice pictures! The only reason I give 4 stars is because it doesnt have a playground for kids.
MoreDidnt even know a place like this existed inside the city limits
Wished I took pictures to match the review. Awesome random find. I didnt walk the complete gravel trail only enough to cross over two bridges. Really calming park. I have a 20lb Maltese mix dog and wouldnt let him off the leash because of the knee grass by the waters. Ill say 🚫 to any 🐍 and 🐊. Im not saying theyre there but me & my skinny leg dog werent going to find out.
MorePeaceful and Nice views...Great to run or walk with your pet or loved ones☺️❤️💯
MoreThis place is spread over a large area and has some really nice places to watch the sunset. Be careful when walking your dog because pets need to be on leash. The park is pretty large and pets can easily get lost. The water body has tortoise and fish, there are multiple bike trails as well as picnic tables and park benches.
MoreGreat place to help find my peace and serenity esp at sunrise and sunset
Great place to walk and meditate.
Needs more shade, but otherwise a very nice park.
Terrific place to walk a dog!!
Great place to go for a walk. Lots of wild flowers.
One of the largest parks in Houston. Offers relaxing scenery right outside of the 610 Loop. There is a local bird watching group that convenes here regularly. Developed infrastructure includes wide concrete paths intermixed with crushed granite paths, bridges, gazebos, picnic tables, park benches, and drinking fountains.
MoreIndeed a hidden gem in SW Houston. Beautiful blue bonnets and many birds.
Much better now that they have paved the parking lot. Would be 4 stars if they had paved more of it though.
MoreWow! We are so lucky to have these beautiful nature areas complete with hills, valleys, and lakes and all wonderfully landscaped with native trees and grasses. Whenever I visit I can feel my body and mind relaxing. Thank you so much to all the people who had a part in bringing this incredible park here.
MoreGreat park! Perfect for a walk with the family, dog walk, light jog or a even a longer trail run. Ive ran here for quite some time now. They recently paved the entrance and the parking lot so it is much nicer than the rough terrain we had before. Theres an inner and outer trail you can follow. Both have inclines and declines which is nice. Outer trail is approximately 2 miles long with good views. Benches are spread throughout the paved track. Shaded areas are limited to the gazebo and benches close to the entrance. Only downside is the park isnt lit at night.
MoreLovely and peaceful for relaxing, walking, or running. Fishing is allowed except in storm water treatment areas. However, I couldnt find anywhere not designated as a storm water treatment area.
MoreGreat place to walk your dog and to hike. The park is cleaned with marked trails, benches and water fountains. The gazebo is the only shaded place there. A short while ago they paved the road finally so it doesnt feel like a roller coaster driving there. On the weekends they hold music festivals from time to time. Also theres a relatively new sculpture garden there. Its really nice. Like a piece of nature in the middle of the city.
MoreMy daughter and I love going to this Park we enjoy a long walk you can take your dogs with you they have benches and picnic tables. They just fix the street and parking area. We love to go there a lot.
MoreNICE PARK, UNFORTUNATE NAMEDon’t let the name scare you off! This clean, medium-sized community park looks nothing like one would envision a “waterhole.” The grounds, border by a beautiful pond, included plenty of green grass and a covered gazebo.[NOTE: I visited this park during a festival, so I can’t comment on everyday appearance.]This park is near an apartment complex. I talked with a couple tenants who say they enjoy walking in the park every day.TIP FOR POGO PLAYERS: There is one stop and one gym within the park.I was there during a Music Festival. Middle School and High School ensembles opened the day with their latest Jazz numbers and professional players followed. The opening to the park comfortable held the 3 food trucks that were there. Several local organizations had informational booths along the border of the park. The best booth, of course, was Face Painting!
MoreThis is a very welcome Urban Green space. Were always in search of good running trails in Houston that are more than a few miles long. When you add together the interconnected basins you can string together over 5 mi pretty easily, maybe more, without going in circles. It is a great way to reclaim that land, provide storm water control, and a place for recreation inside of the Beltway. I am especially excited to see the development of the Levitt Pavilion at the east end near Post Oak Boulevard. That will bring great music to the community, in much the same way that the Miller Outdoor Theater functions now. Cant have too much of a good thing.
MoreVery challenging!!! The view is to die for ** figure of speech** once you find your pace challenge yourself and climb a hill attached to the track. 🏃💪🏾AWESOME FEELING
MoreWonderful walking trails around the water. Lots of benches to stop for breaks
A green green space surrounded by an urban landscape. Its primary function is to serve as an overflow flood plain for massive amount of water which usually happens during hurricanes so nearby neighborhoods do not flood, but along with that purpose there is a nice green space, walkways paths and several benches to sit and take in the green space. The trees are new and growing and in other a five years or so the trees will have large canopies to help turn this space into a great place for bringing back a bit of green and local nature and wildlife back.
MoreLove this chain of parks , great spot for bird watching each smaller section has various degrees of walking difficulties. One section has a walking path that is entirely paved with cement Another has a gravel pathway and the 3rd has no direct path just natural terrain, best for those with no mobility issues.
MoreGreat place to walk and watch the birds . Bring the family!
Its a nice clean walk and hike... nestled next to the highway, its a grassland oasis
MoreQuiet beautiful respite in the middle of Houston. I love taking my dog on walks around the ponds. A little nervous about the alligators though.
MoreThis is a great place to be a part of nature with all of the convenience of smooth walking trails and shade. Learn about Houstons flood control system and watch the birds. Dont forget to pick up your trash!!
MoreI have been exploring different walking trails in Houston during the last 3 weeks. This location has been my favorite so far. The view is gorgeous. There was also a natural breeze as I was walking, but still a very good work out because I was sweating at the end of the walk. Please check it out when you can!👍
MoreA lovely bit of nature, plenty of birds, dragonflies. Plesant walk and its not all flat so that really adds a nice dimension. If you like birdwatching this would be a nice location to visit.
MoreFun place to walk with the kids, you can park in the street across Saint Catherine’s. Lots of birds to watch.
MoreIf you have never been and want to get your first look, and want to understand the trail system around this 6 retention pond nature venue, then I very much recommend the free 2 1/2 mile guided tour. The Metro 7 stops here, and there is some parking. However, be prepared for the fact that, currently, there is only 1 porta potty...out by the Gazebo. The trails are paved, dirt and gravel.Overall, a great place to walk and explore.
MoreWhat a great place tucked away in plain sight, great for a walk or run of 1/3 to 5 miles. Many people like to bring their dogs too, but please pick up after your pooch! And its only getting bigger and better as time goes on...
MoreGreat place to walk or run, very serenely peaceful!
Had catfish they were small only catch and release beautiful spot tho had a blast
MoreBeautiful spot for bird watching, running, walking or just enjoying nature in the city.
MoreI dont get it. As far a mud pits go its one of a kind. I parked on the south side but found no trails. Plenty of trash that was close enough to the bin that made it easy to collect and deposit. Where is the ampitheatre? Is it virtual or just a suggestion?
MoreReally like this spot. Great for a short walk with my dog. Its not the most scenic park as it has some industry neighbors and some sort of recycling/landfill thing close by. Nothing that smells bad, just an eyesore. I still like this place a lot. Just wish the surroundings were nicer.
MoreGreat trail. My dog and I go often to run. And once very year they have a two day free festival.
MoreVery silent place .I do TM in here and hear light music.Very cute and soothing place
MoreWillow Waterhole is a series of greenspaces firstly used as water drainage, to prevent flooding of the nearby neighborhoods. Secondly it serves as animal habitat and recreational space for the Westbury community- offering paved/dirt trails, picnic pavilions and nice views. There is ample parking for visitors. The trails are wheelchair accessible. Several geocaches are also hidden among the trees. Vibrant signage informs visitors of the history, foliage and animals that call this place home. I give it 5 stars b/c it is very accessible, well maintained and enjoyable to visit. You can easily walk, run or bike on the trails. There is also a variety of flat and elevated routes to choose from.My favorite part is the island. Around sunset, the yellow, orange and red colors on the water envelope you as you traverse the bridges and footpath. Also, there are very tall yellow sun flowers growing near the path, which blow in the wind and capture your eye with vibrant contrasting colors. My least favorite part about the greenspace is that you can see a concrete landfill if you look to the Southeast. It kinda sullies the overall natural beauty of the landscape.
MoreNear our house. We walk here occasionally. Its quiet and foot traffic is minimal. I like it for these reasons. But the water is murky and lots of bugs. I know its on water and mostly a swamp. But mosquitoes are awful out here. Bring bug spray!! And wear sunscreen if waking during sunlight. Not much shade.
MoreThis area is becoming a very welcoming place to visit. Its usually kept free of trash, etc. Nice layout for park areas. Lots of room to enjoy natural scenaries. I would like to see more parking areas. There are a few areas close by that seem not to be safe so i stay aware of activities around me when visiting.
