Whitireia Park - Park and Garden in Upper Hutt, New Zealand
Great for a flat walk from the boat sheds to the car park and back or loop back over the hill. Reasonably sheltered from a southerly but a bit exposed to northerlies
Very good walking track, especially when the weather is good
Stunning views
Drive to and from is quite the challenge with the narrow windy road but apart from that super place.
Its an amazing place and the view is spectacular
Another excellent easy assess dog walking park in the Wellington region. Dogs must be on a lead due to blue penguin and other protected species. Tracks are excellent and well marked out.
Best sunset views and fantastic place to explore with family. My dogs favourite place but most coastal parts are now on lead only due to wildlife. The higher points are best for off lead. Awesome views from the top of the hill over Titahi Bay and Porirua harbour.
Be aware the automatic gates close at 6pm- 6am.There is a very narrow one lane road that is steep in places but taken carefully is adequate to get up over to the other north side where the swimming beach is.This is a vast area of windswept coast & rolling grassland hills. There are walking tracks. Onepoto loop is one & half to two hours, most along the flat coast.Theres a toilet block way over at the beach. You can swim at one part of the beach, the rest is very rocky to get in and out of.There is one very tall repeater radio mast. The views are superb 360 degrees in many places. Looking down to Mt Kaukau, Colonial Knob, & Tawa & Porirua. Also across to the South Island, the Malbourough Sounds, Mana Island, Stephens Island. Up to Kapiti Island, Kapiti coast, Plimmerton and the Porirua suburbs.
Great place to take friends and family out for a picnic, time on the beach or play by the rocks and acouple tracks thatll take your breathe away
Great views but takes on the brunt of the prevailing westerly wind. Take something warm to wear regardless of what the weather looks like- it can be very brisk up there
Great spot shame council cant provide people with bins to put their rubbish in tho. Fed up of clearing litter away every time I visit
Excellent 1hr 40min. loop walk from Onepoto Rd along the inlet along the coastline which takes you to Whitireia Park then up 10mins over a hill before following the side of the golf course back round to the Onepoto boat club start point again. Really beautiful walk especially when the NW wind isn’t blowing too strong.
Lovely loop walk.
If your gonna change the hours change them online aswell
One of Wellingtons best kept secrets.
Great park! Loved it for a fishing spot!
Beautiful place for families. Great walking tracks as well.
Fantastic views. Highly recommend. Just be wary of the drive up, the roads are very thin and hard to navigate...
Whitireia Park is a headland offering stunning views of Mana Island and Porirua Harbour. You can drive all the way to the top to enjoy the views. Enjoy beautiful sunsets as well. There are roads and walkways taking you close to the water. From the Public Car Park on the top of the park, one can take the Onepoto Road to drive down to the very sheltered and swim friendly "Te Onepoto Bay"This is a gated park and I think is open from 6am till 7pm until midsummer
Best spot to watch the sunset!
Great views here and great place to fly your drone
Beautiful views and a nice slow drive round the park. Nice walking areas.
Great views. On a windy day, its quite something. In the late evening, the sun setting over the South Island is incredible
Lovely place for a walk, either along the shore, or along one the tracks.
One of my fave local spots
Always a joy to visit. Wild and woolly one day and calm the next. Love it!!
Lovely, flat, easy walk for the whole family. Pet friendly.
Nice park, easy trail for beginner. Perfect view in the nice weather especially summer
Whether you come here to walk, swim, go adventure in rock pools or just sit in the car to admire the view, it is GLORIOUS!
Great views and a nice coastal walk
Amazing place, lots to explore! Could easily spend a few hours here
Descent an hour walk good for wind surfing
Great place to just relax
Beautiful day today climbing with a group from Paraparaumu College
A great place to fly dtones. Its outside controlled airspace and the ranger is happy to give permission.
Love walking the dogs out here. Kept them on lead round the coast due to Little Blue Penguins heading in to nest, but free to frollick on the farmland in the interior of the park. Just watch out for the gorse!
Lovely hairy drive to a beautiful beach. Great outlook over harbour for visitors.
Beautiful natural scenery, can get quite windy on some days. Narrow roads to go down to the beach. Clean beaches, toilets available. Car parks available. Walking tracks available.
A beautiful easy walk
Great park. Road through the park is very narrow, please drive slowly. Beautiful at sunset and when theres a southerly storm rolling in!
Such a beautiful place to go for a run, or even a picnic. Its like being so far from civilisation, yet it is just a few minutes away from the city! Just what what makes NZ a beauty.
A gem of a place. Relatively unspoilt, good walking tracks, some lovely quiet beaches.
Love the open space and windswept hills. Great for contemplation, for walking dogs and photography. Wonderful to have this space in the middle of an urban area.
If youre visiting Porirua in the summer time then you cant leave without spending a day here. Its the most beautiful place to spend with the family and the more you walk around past the furthest place you can drive the better. Its definately worth the hike. Take your pillows, books, beach chairs and some shade and it will be the best place to picnic, we wouldnt have left if the gates didnt close lolol
Lovely walks, clean beaches and pretty views.
Bit of a hidden gem, even though it’s a big park. I regularly fly my drone here as it’s a designated free fly zone. The track along the coast is great for walking for biking with family
One of my favourite places in the world. My backyard and preferred place to fly my drone.
Excellent views and walking areas
Great little spot for fishing, diving, snorkelling or swimming. All these activities within 1km of beach front. Well serviced toilet block if you get stuck. Just watch the entrance road, definitely one car width at times, so go slow and get yours and your passengers heads on swivels at the corners. Cant wait to go back.
A really beautiful slice of Aotearoa.
