Old-fashioned tavern serving a lineup of burgers, salads & comfort food, with some creative twists.
White Horse Restaurant in San Francisco
Description
Great staff, good drinks & food. Came in after a 12 hour flight & feel like a regular already.
MoreI enjoyed my stay at the hotel even though the fire alarm went off at 530 ,the waitstaff was very nice only stayed in bar for food I was travelling with my two girls found barman very uncomfortable I sat at bar only one night for 2 drinks hoping to speak to locals the waitstaff had to say put hatch down I was sitting behind it he never apologized I left
MoreReview is of the restaurant, never stayed at the hotel. Attentive staff and the lowest price to quality steak in the city. Brick pressed chicken is also excellent 👌
MoreGreat bartenders, delicious food and free popcorn. The atmosphere is one of an old English pub and I loved it.
MoreWe stopped in, just looking for a quick bite and some beers. The decor was very nice, and the place is larger than it appears. Jeremiah was a good server, and the food was good. If in the area again, I would go back.
MoreVery cosy place fish n chips us$11.. fish n shrimp plate us$14.. beer abit pricey us$9 .. but like the ambiance
MoreThis restaurant is part of the hotel adjacent to it. The entrance to the pub is from a half wooden door which adds kind of old world charm to the place. In the bustling union square area this pub is surely a blessing for the people who want to sit relax and drink. The place does not have drink menu and staff is really helpful in making the recommendations based on what kind of drink you like. I had light lager beer and it was good. The food menu is good but a slightly pricey. Quantity of the food is good.
MoreGood experience here in the White Horse Restaurant in San Francisco. Cheap food, good beers and nice pub style inside, like the original pub from Irish. Good service...fast and kindness with many nice tips. Recommended for a dinner with friends or even only for some drinks 👍
MoreCheap beers. The food is not great. The fries tasted like fish. Probably the same old oil for the last 15 years. But this place has free shuffle board which is amazing!
MoreFree popcorn, free shuffleboard, and great old time decor. White Horse is time machine, iconic and the burgers are great.
MoreVery kind staff, spacious place, and for once you dont need to spend your biweekly salary to get some drinks or food!
MoreGood affordable food. Good affordable drinks. Cozy old school fashioned bar in an area that would otherwise be unaffordable. Some days they sell out of food items but they are good on service and solid when they have the full menu.
MoreVery cute..great service, great for a bite and or libation. Connected to a hotel so you will have tourist yet still get a local vibe feel!Prices right on the money..along with the music in the back ground. I will definitely come back!
MoreGreat food at great price!Nice friendly staff....everything one is looking for for a relaxing and enjoyable dinner and drink!
MoreFood is good, not great. Price is excellent; dinner, couple of drinks and tip for about 30 bucks. Atmosphere and people are great. One of my favorites, keep going back.
MoreCaesar salad was scrumptious, waiter was very kind to our spontaneous large group when we asked for separate checks. Delicious mixed drink, at a reasonable price.
MoreGreat atmosphere, great garlic French fries, great service!
My favortie bar in San Francisco as a visitor here for a week--excellent atmosphere, reasonably priced drinks, perfect service and a neighborhood feel. Free salty snacks like popcorn are icing on the cake.
MoreSome of the best prices in SF, friendly staff, and fantastic atmosphere. Their food is outstanding as well!
MoreGood place to go if youre looking for a cozy place with little frills. Small beer selection, but really good food especially on a chilly night. Also, excellent price point.
MoreAwesome. Great and cheap American food.
Poor selection of beers, terrible fish and chips. Not sure what the redeeming factor of this place is other than its quiet and servers are fairly nice.
MoreGreat spot to grab a drink if you are seeing a show with the kids - they are allowed in the back restaurant section. You might also catch some industry folks if your timing is good.
MoreReally inexpensive. The food is great, portions are generous. Friendly staff. Attracts old timers. A bar with a character.
MoreWe really liked the burger. Fair prices and a nice atmosphere. If in the area, stop in.
MoreReally good burger, free popcorn, great service and super reasonable prices. Only drawback was that it was eerily quiet on a Sunday evening in there.
MoreNice friendly pub with delicious food. The steak was great. Staff lovely.
Good prices. Amazing bartenders and waitstaff. Its a pretty relaxed place, so relaxed you could even read a book here.
MoreGreat little bar and restaurant inside a hotel close to Union Square. Great burgers, and reasonably priced beers on tap. Killer Old Fashioned too.
MoreGood food, good price
What a golden nugget this is. Such an unsuspecting place. Looks like an old fashioned pub, but it packs a punch when it comes to the food. The steak is perfection and the wings were overwhelming. Dont over think it....just go in and try it. You wont be disappointed.
MoreStayed at the beresford hotel which has a door into the white horse. Really good beer and food all reasonably priced and not for to go if you have to much to drink.
MorePerfetto! Good food, low prices and beautiful location!Try their codd salad and fish&chips!#1!!!!
MoreAwesome locals place, bartender down the street recommended it. Service was a little slow but just appreciated being in a nice non-crowded place that felt like I couldve been sitting in a local Irish or English pub.
MoreGreat little pub, excellent service, great food selection, we recommend the steak ... reasonable prices ... Will definitely be back
MoreI really enjoyed the meatloaf. It was very rich and flavorful, cooked to perfection with distinctive herbs, spices, and pine nuts rounding out the dish. Coincidentally, these are the same characteristics I could use to describe the crippling diarrhea it gave me the next afternoon. Still, I would recommend the White Horse for charming 19th century pub atmosphere and friendly service-- just not the loaf.
MoreMy buddy and I are from Seattle and we enjoyed the California burger and country pie. Kate really made us feel right at home. Make sure you sit it her section.
MoreGreat place, good food, friendly staff and tasty drinks. Highly recommend.
The first couple of times Ive gone, I thoroughly enjoyed myself. So let me tell you why Im only giving White Horse 1 star now. The guy bartender, when left alone, is sexist, looks down on women, and only views customers as dollar signs. Every time my fiance and I have gone, there have always been 2 bartenders, a woman and a man. The service had always been pleasant from them and the atmosphere of the bar has always been awesome. Last night only the guy bartender was working, and he cared more about his friends then the customers. Its not that the problem was that he was paying more attention to his friends. The problem is that he was acting entitled as if everyone owed him something. He only cared about making money and putting on a show for his friends, instead of taking care of the customers needs first. When he asked for my fiances I.D. he was very snobby and sassy about it, which he had never been before. When we left we forgot to tip and he said "arent you going to tip? Or are do you not want to tip because I carded you?" Again, he said this in a sassy smug way, with his friends seated at the bar enjoying the show. My fiance apologized because she legitimately forgot, and explained to him she was having a rough day. As my fiance was tipping him, he said: "You dont have to tip if you dont want to." Then proceeded to stare her down and didnt say thank you. We will not be returning unless the female bartender is working. She must be able to whip him into shape because when its just him, he looks at the customer as a dollar sign and is extremely rude to women. He has done this with our friends on separate occasions which we didnt know about till we told them what happened. If we do return, he will never get a tip from us.
MoreStylish pub in English style with friendly staff, good beers and tasty quality food.
MoreStaff is friendly, food is great and the drinks are affordable. What more could you want?
MoreHappy hour makes this place decent. The waitress we had seemed was in a sour mood. She was short and came off rude to everyone. The wings everyone said were just okay. The salad I had was pretty good. The place was dark and pretty quiet when we were there with not many patrons.
MoreDaily happy hour (not just weekdays!is until 6:30 and gets you a beer and wings for only 8 bucks! Throw in sweet potato fries with garlic and you have a tasty $14 dollar meal + drink in the middle of San Francisco. Amazing.
MoreWhat a great place to have dinner! The food was delicious and the choice of drinks was great! Nice service!
MoreThis place is everything a pub should be. Great food, wonderful service and spectacular beer. Im sad that Ive just found this place tonight as Id happily come back tomorrow if I wasnt leaving SF. The best part? I only saw one TV - and it wasnt switched on.
MoreLove the White Horse. Warm, inviting with an old world feel. Beer prices are the best Ive seen and tasty selection. A great place to find!
MoreThe service was terrible! We ordered our burgers well done, but my sisters was medium. That wouldnt have been a huge deal if our waiter had come over and asked us if everything was okay. He never came to our table to ask if we needed anything, refill our water or give us a check. After waiting 30 minutes after finishing our dinner for the check, I had to go up to the bartender to ask for it. She went outside to try to find our waiter, but this time he was inside siting at a table visiting with people. When she finally found him, she told him we wanted our checks. It was still another 10 minutes before we got our checks. I had even put in a to go order for my husband, which got cold during the 40 minutes we had to wait for him to bring us the check. Even that would have been understandable if the place had been busy. There werent that many people in the place, and the worst part about it all was that the waiter went outside to smoke a cigar, came back inside to have a drink at the bar, sat down to visit with people at a table and went back outside for another smoke and repeated the cycle all over again instead of providing any service whatsoever! I am very disappointed.
MoreThe White Horse is a fantastic pub that never gets too crowded. The bartenders are always nice and theres a good selection of whiskies on top of the draft beer they have. To top it all off, theres fresh popcorn and snacks and if you get there before it gets too late, free hot dogs as well.
MoreThis place is reminiscent of an old English pub: small, dark, odd decor...but such a delightful experience of sitting with friends and grabbing drinks and free popcorn for less than $8 per glass. The service is basic; experience, priceless.
MoreLocated in the Beresford Hotel, it’s a great place for a pre/post show cocktail with a great selection of single malt scotches and beer. Free hot dogs and friendly bartenders.
