White Dog Cafe in Philadelphia
Description
Privilege
Thos is a very unique place. It is different than any place I have ever visited. The service at the bar was fabulous. The ambiance is terrific.
MoreGreat little brunch spot! Everything was tasty and the service was good. We had the açaí bowl, a couple of omelettes, and the churro waffles. We shared everything and it was a great idea to have a little taste of a few different things.
MoreBeautifully decorated - everywhere you look there are dogs and interesting odds and ends. The layout of the restaurant is a series of rooms all connected and packed tight with tables so its very cozy. Our waiter was great, didnt forget about us, and checked in regularly. I knew about the prices going in, but honestly feel a bit disappointed and ripped off for the cost of what I was served. The food wasnt bad, but it wasnt amazing - I had the French toast, biscuit with sausage gravy, and a mimosa. I covered myself and two of my friends - $150+. Dont get me wrong, its a fun place and visually stimulating, just a little overpriced.
MoreWonderful ambience, friendly staff, and good eats. They go hard with the dog theme, so if youre an unabashed fanatic for four-legged friends, this will feel like home.
MoreFood was yummy, cannot wait to go back. Blueberry waffles are some of the best I’ve ever tasted. Service also 10/10.
MoreFirst the decor is amazing. The food was more than delicious. The variety quality and plating was fantastic. We loved each dish we had. And having the mimosa bucket is the cutest idea. My grandson birthday cake !!!.you are a 10 out of a 10. And your staff is friendly knowledgeable of the menu and quick yet spot on.
MoreOne of my favorite places for brunch, never fails to give the best food from their amazing selection. Great staff and beyond amazing food. Highly recommend the whipped ricotta with honey for an app and the almond blueberry cake for dessert!! Also one of the best old fashioned drinks Ive had in a while!
MoreTo die for. Love. From decor, to service, to energy, to taste - everything about it is amazing. I’d 100% recommend eating here during any time of the day. Staff is so efficient and kind/accommodating. It is a bit pricey but in my opinion, it has some of the best tastes in Philly. Unique dishes and style (in all aspects), I recommend coming here!!!!
MoreCame for drinks and snacks during happy hour. FYI HH can only be ordered at bar or patio. Honey Mule was good but wish it had more lime juice. Goat cheese whipped ricotta was light and the bread to whipped ricotta ratio was excellent. Truffle Parmesan Fries were crispy, not overwhelmingly truffley and the spicy mayo was a great dipping sauce. Fried Pickles also came with spicy mayo sauce. They never disappoint! Will be back.
MoreThe White Dog has become reliable again--my last several meals here have been very good. I was not at all happy with my sangria (it was watered down with grapefruit juice and soda), but they replaced it cheerfully with an Old Fashioned, which was just right. The food looks enticing and frankly tastes as good as it looks. Nothing on the menu Id recommend avoiding. Excellent service, too.
MoreThe decorations throughout the restaurant are truly unique. Everywhere you look there is some design element incorporating dogs. The food was good and service was prompt for a busy lunch crowd. The deep fried pickle spears were interesting as most places do them as pickle chips. It was a pleasant surprise that the batter stuck to the pickle. The staff handled issues with a meal order in the most professional customer focused manner. This is a convenient location with transit and multiple parking options.
MoreWent there second time. Burger and pork belly is really good. The non alcoholic cocktail has raspberry juice in it quite good. Remember to reserve a outdoor seat on a good weather.
MoreUniversity City …. Clean and fresh is the best way to describe White Dog Cafe. Great service as well.
MoreI went to White Dog Cafe to get some food while my mother was in the ICU at Penn. I didn’t have the capacity to sit for a meal so I ordered it to go. The staff was very kind and helpful, maybe they knew I wasn’t having a good day or maybe they’re always super caring, but I felt taken care of and nurtured in the short 30ish minutes I waited for my meal. I had the veg burger and fries and it was absolutely everything I needed after the day I had. Thank you White Dog staff for your kindness and support during a much needed break in the day.
MoreStopped here for brunch with some friends. I got an omelette with mushrooms, onion, and cheese. It was great! Came with a side of home fries which were a bit chunky for my taste.I also ordered a side of the apple chicken sausage which was fantastic. Added a lot to the omlette. Everyone else at my table enjoyed their food as well. Service was quick and good. Decor was super fun with all the dog paintings and funky design. Highly recommend!
MoreA wonderful place for brunch! Tuesday morning the place was empty so take advantage of that as the weekends bring a few dozen folks with the cant idea! As for the menu, the French toast was excellent along with eggs and potatoes! The interior is also very quaint and fits perfectly in University City.
MoreVery beautiful restaurant. Huge space and each room has different dog themes! Super adorable. Make reservation first to avoid the wait. Kennett square mushroom soup was wonderful. Pork belly Benedict was good too. Comes with two chucks of tender pork belly. And two Benedict eggs. With some potatoes. Lovely place for brunch!
MoreThey just changed their happy our menu so have it in mind. Truffle fries were amazing 10/10, tartare was just okey because avocado part was bigger than tuna and tuna was soaked with soya sauce, not my likening so just 6/10 (maybe it’s because we ordered it from happy hour menu 🤷🏼♀️burger was not bad at all 9/10. Watermelon martini is a must to try! I am not a fan of watermelon but this cocktail will be my summer hit 🍸
MoreI came here as a visitor of UPenn. And I personally don’t think the food was that delicious: pale, soulless, but of good portions. Please expect the typical American food that you can find anywhere else. However, their soft drinks were quite decent. And the atmosphere was nice.
MoreIt was delicious. Thats churro waffle. the waiter was a bit over the top with the "my pleasures." but he was indeed attentive. he got me what i asked for, I PAID A LOT FOR IT, the prices are a bit much, but if im getting what i asked for, and IT TASTES GOOD, ill abide. its not a place id venture to often, because the price is way more than i feel i should have spent for what i got. i did eat off of it before i took the pic. but despite that, the presentation was still nice. it was crunchy and light, everything id expect a waffle to be. had a few other items with this. everything was deliciously prepared, and after going so many places overcharging me for subpar food AND subpar customer service this was a pleasant change.
MoreFried Pickles are so good! They blend chopped dill into bread coat, so fresh and flavorful!!!
MoreOne of my favorite happy hour and brunch places. Ive never been disappointed. Most recently, I got the Nashville Hot Chicken and French toast and let me say, its one of the BEST meals Ive EVER had.Decor is amazing. Dogs. Everywhere. Literally.
MoreGreat brunch place! The service was friendly and fast, and the food was fresh and tasty, with lots of vegetarian options. The hummus was a large portion and great for sharing as well. The overall atmosphere was relaxing (great music!and unique, with several dog themed rooms throughout. I went on a weekday when there wasn’t very many people, and it felt like we had our own private room.
MoreThis place is a cozy fun spot to have Brunch!! Also not far from the University Penn museum. It is Dog theme which is a fun theme everything in the restaurant has dog decorations. Also each room has a dog theme room. Our room was downs stairs it was a portrait room with dogs painted as royalty or generals. There are several rooms I think I counted 5 but I could be wrong. The menu was very unique but delicious. We had the peanut butter jelly French toast and pork belly meal. Both were fantastic!! Then the kids had a French toast and side of sausage. Yes they do have a kids meal. This place is kid friendly!!! There is also a nice size Drink menu. There food menus do change per season as they buy and make food from local markets and farms with food in season!! They also are allergy friendly and indicate on the menus if something is nut or gluten or Dairy free. The staff were friendly and the service was fairly quick. They do take reservations but walk ins are welcome !! They are on the more pricey side $15-$18 for a meal during Brunch but totally worth it. Check this place out they have 4 locations total and are a small locally owned businesses!! Support local businesses!!
MoreFantastic cuisine. Pricey, but what do you expect from Philadelphia Center City and the Penn campus? The food is both tasty and somewhat imaginative. Atmosphere is great and the service is also excellent.
MoreWe came for brunch and I was underwhelmed. The aesthetic was nice with plenty of seating. But the number of brunch menu items was very limited with few vegetarian/vegan options which were not well labeled (I’ve come to expect vegetarian labeling in most Philly restaurants). Coffee quality and service were both above average.
MoreCame for brunch while in town from NYC. Really enjoyed the pork belly Benny but was honestly expecting thinner slices of pork belly rather than bigger chunks. It was still delicious, esp that maple hollandaise. We also shared the churro waffles for the table - don’t miss these!! 🙂Unfortunately, our waitress had really long fake nails… thought this was a violation and really turned us off. She was kind though.
MoreThe burger was phenomenal with the bacon Mayo, but so was the pulled pork sandwich. The atmosphere was great, and the building is very neat.
MoreMy mouth is watering as I am writing this review. I have NEVER had a bad meal here. Everything is phenomenal. My favorite is the churros french toast which is out of this world. The staff is always incredibly friendly and attentive. The restaurant itself is beautiful and so tasteful with its decor and subtle hints of canine friends (whats not to love about this...). I always make a reservation beforehand because they are always very popular (and for good reason)!
MoreEnjoyed lunch here. Attentive service, great decor, lovely ambience. Drinks were made very well, and the food was delicious. Vegetarian options are limited, but enough for us to warrant another visit!
MoreToday was our first time and it was greatly good! We went at 1:45 and we were able to make same day reservations. Drinks were really good. Meals came out at differed times and manger took off the late meal. The Nashville hot chicken French toast was amazing and French fries tasty! Can’t want to go back!
MoreReally cool place, great dining rooms, great bar. All locally sourced food and drinks. The hummus and fried pickles were really good. The burger is fantastic ($22). But, the menu is pretty limited and it’s expensive. Excellent cocktail selection. It’s on a cool strip with a great BBQ place and Irish bar, worth a stop just to see it.
MoreWas a very nice and cute place. Each room has a dog/garden theme. When it is warm you can take your dog here, they have outdoor seating. Food was pretty good, we really enjoyed the soup.Great for date night. Can also come for a small bite and some drinks. Would definitely go back.
MoreLast night was my favorite time back at white dog after 3 years. We had a great experience here. The cheese board appetizer is always great, and it was my first time having dinner here, the burger and truffle fries were delicious. Our waitress was great and I love the atmosphere of the restaurant. I forgot how good this place was! Definitely would recommend to anyone interested.
MoreWe wen to this place to celebrate my husbands birthday and we loved it. EVERYTHING from beginning to end was wonderful. The service was top notch and was worth every penny! The decoration is beautiful and we will definitely be back. We’ll be going back soon!
MoreThe atmosphere was really nice and it felt cozy; I loved all the dog decor. We started off with the cheese board which looked good and tasted better. The combination of their jam with cheese and craisins was my favorite. I got the beef short rib and it was so tender inside; the sauce that it was served with had a lot of flavor. I definitely want to come back here for breakfast next time.
MoreWaiter was very polite and attentive, food was extremely fresh! Very tasteful! Cute atmosphere, enjoyed our 1st visit
MoreYou have to check out @whitedogphilly I had such an amazing time. Wonderful food and beautiful dining areas. The rooms are just gorgeous. The roasted Brussel sprouts are amazing. The Parmesan cheese chips on the salad were such a wonderful touch! Can’t to come back for brunch ❤️
MoreWhite Dog is a classic- their Philly location is huge and beautiful. The food is delicious, fancy but not that pricey. Their staff is beyond nice and friendly. Their outdoor seating is also lovely since Sansom St is still closed off for restaurants.
MoreThe food was delicious and our server Kevin was great. I wasn’t crazy about the reduction of the salmon and the portion sizes were small but, other than that, everything was fantastic. Great spot for brunch with friends and a warm environment overall.
MoreThis is a modern sustainable restaurant with much charm. There are different themed rooms throughout the establishment and all ingredients are locally and seasonally sourced. We were seated in a library-like room with colorful art adorning the walls. Regarding food, we ordered the Kennett Square Mushroom Soup and two burgers. The Hot Catfish Burger and the mushroom soup were both exceptional. Ive never tasted such depth of flavor in a mushroom soup before. The burger was lovely and light, not feeling greasy at all. Even the bun was good enough for me to notice a difference. Overall, the ambience, friendly service, and absolutely delicious food made this meal a warm spot in our memories.
MoreI have been here two times and The White Dog Cafe is by far one of the most wonderfully strange restaurant I have ever been to. First off the entire atmosphere is dog themed in a way that is elegant and tasteful. I really like the different dog themed rooms especially the wine cellar with doggie portraits that look like generals. The service is always amazing. So courteous and professional. The food is also very well cooked and I really like the seasonality of the menu to leverage in season foods. The White Dog Cafe is always a treat and I cant wait to return.
MoreGreat food !!! We loved coming here. The environment was amazing and all the paintings. They do have a bar , no more bottomless mimosas though ! The food was really amazing the Devil Eggs and Vegan was life. The service was good but we felt it could improve but overall was a great experience. Shout out to The Manager GABBY for making sure we were satisfied with leadership and understanding. We will definitely come back !
MoreMy boyfriend and I went here for the first time on Monday a week ago for a class assignment about farm to table restaurants, and the food was great, I loved the decor too. All around we enjoyed ourselves, and would highly recommend!!
MoreEverything about White Dog is exceptional — their service, the atmosphere, and especially the food.Every time we come here we usually already know what to get, because it’s always been such a great experience. You can see from the photo how much we like the pretzel bread. 10/10 would recommend White Dog to anyone in the area… All I’ll say is, visitors and locals: go for a meal here!
MoreGreat flavored food. Very unique theme as each room is different. Proper COVID precautions were in place.
MoreGreat brunch spot! Bottomless mimosas were decently priced and very good, food was delicious and atmosphere was very upscale classy. Service was ok, definitely a nice place for a fancy brunch event. Havent been for dinner but Id expect a similar vibe!
MoreSpectacular food!! Fantastic service. Lovely indoor atmosphere. Outdoor seating with no street traffic. We grabbed a few items from their mid day menu. Truffle fries were super yummy. Bangin mac and cheese. The Goat Cheese with Whipped Ricotta, Strawberries and Sourdough Toasts was delectable!
MoreDelicious food and what a great atmosphere, especially if youre a dog lover! The sausage gravy/biscuit was some of the best Ive ever had! The server/bartender was incredibly nice and worked hard to make sure we were always happy and had everything we needed.
MoreI would like to give White Dog Cafe 5 stars based on the food and decor, however, I had to give 3 stars due to the staff and reservation set up. I made a reservation for an outdoor table for 2. We showed up at the time of our reservation and was told that there were no outdoor tables available, and that we would need to wait ~1 hour. The hostess was incredibly rude, insisting that I should have realized outdoor seating is first come, first served, even if you make a reservation. I did not see this anywhere on both the website and where I made the reservation. We were then forced to basically eat inside or leave, so we chose to eat inside. The hostess then tried to seat us at a very small table, in between two four tops, and the tables most certainly weren’t 6 feet apart. Luckily, another worker there overheard our concerns and found a table in a much less packed room. During this time of trying to figure everything out, we had a few encounters with other staff members and they were ALL rude! I couldn’t believe it. When we finally sat down, we were greeted by a very pleasant bartender/waiter, and he turned our whole experience around. The food was delicious, bottomless mimosas and extremely cute decor. Hostess and some other staff members need to work on their attitude, and anyone planning to eat outdoors at this restaurant, keep in mind that a reservation means nothing.
