Whale Watching with Hermanus Whale Watchers - Tourist attraction in Hermanus, South Africa
We had an amazing time watching southern right whales. Some very close to the boat. We took our 4month old and we were very well looked after by the helpful and friendly crew.
Guide and crew super good, thank you!
We went on a tour in the afternoon and were lucky. We saw a group whales mating and the boat was able to get pretty close. I did get sick at the end but I think it was because I was looking through my camera the whole time. Crew were very friendly and caring. Would definitely recommend!
Fake news
Beautiful drive from strand. Loved speed boating and whale watching
Didnt get a chance to see them will come back when its season
Knowledgeable guide worth every cent. Awesome experience highly recommend it
Really nice charter if you want to see whales. We also saw dolphins and seals.
Whale endangerment at its finest! Hermanus Whale Watchers do not adhere to the conditions of their permits and don’t take the well-being of the whales into account. These boats approach too close to the whales, including whales with very young babies despite the condition of their permit that this is forbidden, and they approach with speed which often distresses the mothers. They make rapid changes in speed and direction which also visibly disturbs the whales. Tourists to the area are distressed to see the whales being ‘chased’ by boats. The Cape Whale coast owes its global tourism reputation to the Southern Right Whale, with Hermanus as the proclaimed Whale Capital of the world. Tourism is the largest contributor to the local economy. The behaviour of this three boat operator is bound to degrade the habitat of the Southern Whales in Walker Bay – and as a result the future of the area as a famous international tourism area.It is also important to note that whale boats may approach to within 50m of the whales and should not move off for fear of injury if the whales (naturally curious mammalsapproach the boat. They may not come between a mother and calf and if the whales move off they may not follow them. They may not come closer than 1 nautical mile (1,8km to the coastline. Why allowing the Hermanus Whale Watchers doing this to these mammals?
Knowledgeable guide worth every cent. Awesome experience highly recommend it
Whale watcher guides clearly love whales and shared so much interesting inormation.
Friendly and warm crew and staff 😊
Great guid ,Got to see many whales .
Saw two whales pretty close. The boat ride was rough on the stomach. Expensive according to the fact you can see the from the cliff path in hermanus.
What an awesome vibe, werent any whales when I was there but the experience was bomb
Wow! This was incredible! Totally recommending this trip for anyone in SA. 🐳🤙
Best in September at the peak of whale watching season.
Way way too expensive!!!!I would do it if I would know what it is in advance. You hardly see anything and pay way too much.
Our guides were lovely and so friendly the whale watching was excellent was a really amazing experience. I would highly recommend.
Great guides and captains. Good sightings as well.
Breathtaking scenery. Fantastic whale-watching when in season.
Awesome experience should be called whale encounter you can almost touch them!
This tour was terribly disappointing. It should have been canceled due to poor weather conditions, as other companies in the area had done, but it seems they wanted the profits more than they wanted to be sure their guests had a good experience. The waters were so rough that there were only two whales visible from a distance (whales dont like rough waters). Additionally, what truly made the experience terrible was that the very rough waters caused half the guests to get sick (including myselfand many were vomiting and laying down the entire time, unable to even enjoy a boat ride. While its totally understandable that in regular conditions the chances of seeing animals varies, it was clear that the professionals at this company knew that conditions were going to be poor and decided to continue with the tour anyway to make a profit. This is so frustrating! It feels like we were taken advantage of for the money. I would recommend checking with various companies about the conditions and ensure that others are going out as well, as we were the only boat out on a normally busy harbor, and it was clear that other companies respected their guests time and money more than this one did.
Great place, great view, very enjoyable and peaceful . Good staff
Loved it we saw whales but they were way to far we couldnt take clear picture of them.Lovely expirience.
The whale watching season was exceptional. It was very crowded. However, the whales delivered. They came out in their numbers and put on a great display. If, you ever near Hermanus during whale watching season. Pop in, it is worth the time to watch these beautiful creatures in their natural environment. Just remember to get a good parking and find yourself a good place by the sea. There is also various activities for kids. And various food stalls.
Very nice team and a boat where everyone could see the whales very good. Really great!
Reliable company, small enough boats that you arent all cramped
Tourist had a fantastic time saw quite a few whales, it was worth going out on the boat
Nice boat, nice staff and a very nice experience
Great day. Staff were so friendly and knowledgeable - and took us as close as you could imagine to the whales! Fantastic trip. Highly recommended.
Awesome tour. We saw loads of whales and received loads of information from our guides. Its a good size boat and I felt safe.
We came in last minute, but they manage to get us on the last boat of the day. What a sighting. Gorgeous. And the guide was super cool.
Saw a lot of whales! The operator is really knowledgeable and friendly. Told a lot of stories about his adventures and about whales. It felt like a family outing rather than a random tour. Will recommend it even though the fees are on the higher side.
While our tour was unfortunately cancelled due to severe winds, Im only too happy to give 5 stars for the excellent service we received from Hermanus Whale Watchers. We were unable to reschedule as we needed to get home. Hermanus Whale Watchers fully refunded us within days without any of the usual prompting from our side. We will definitely be back for a tour soon ( hopefully the weather plays along this time :D)
Our whale watching tour on the Unathi (the boatwas fantastic! The crew and guides were super friendly and made sure that we could enjoy spectacular sightings of southern right whales. The give you a lot of information to learn about these precious animals and you are provided with free drinks and chips. We had a really great time and I would definitely recommend this company!
Amazing experience with these knowledgeable people. The boat was perfect for the watching, and they dont allow too many people on, in order for the guests to be able to move freely around. The crew is amazing: the spotters know how and where to find the whales, and the crew can tell so many facts about literally everything regarding whales. They are kind and easy to talk to.Overall we were lucky to see so many whales and seals, and thank these people for that.
This was amazing! Whales all around us. It really is a must see!
It was unforgetable expirience of whale watching with responsible team. Highly recomend!
There are many whale watchers you can go to, but these are pretty good actually. A decent ship (catamaranwith a good crew. From our ship we have seen other boats where people were packed. Not here. And worth mentioning... the crew were very respectful for the whales we saw and kept their distance. Do not forget to walk to the edge of the harbour and see the seal colony.
Tour cancelled due to technical problems. We were not informed and waited for more then half an hour.
Nice and friendly crew, saw the whales from really close by.
Was amazing.will return soon.
Very helpful staff, Even when some of us become see sick.
Cheap if you bargain. Good guide. We enjoyed a lot
Knowledgable crew and whalewatcher crews await. Because whale populations have become shy, its important that all visit this quaint harbour to catch sight of these intelligent giant mammals of the ocean.
The most beautiful area in the world for whale watching
Excellent very nollidgeable and tourest friendly
We saw some whales! They were just sort of floating around...
They had an engine fail, not even a kilometer away from the harbour and refused to give us a full refund, I found this very unprofessional
