Western Undercliff Beach - Public Baths in Broadstairs, United Kingdom
Excellent pictures brings back old memories thanks to all those who posted
My childhood playground, ravaged by time and development, sad really
Love this beach itβs my favourite one much better than Ramsgate main Beach. You can walk for miles at low tide right out to Pegwell Bay nature reserve.Thereβs an old tidal pool too which the dogs love, and the beach is surrounded by chalk cliffs so you can generally see the gulls flying onto the cliffs and if you time it right there are some cliff caves which have been around for many years. So if you want a nice long walk with or without the dog then I highly recommend this beach.Parking is nearly always possible but does get busy in the summer. But it is sometimes easier to park up top and walk down the steps to the beach if itβs really busy.Toilets are available at the old boating pool that is situated above the beach.
Absolutely beautiful beach. Spent fond memories of remembering my parents.
I love it here for the rockpools when the tide is out. In the summer its not the most crowded and this is rather out-of-the-way. Its more suited to the pastimes of the locals than the Main Sands Id say :)
Deserves to be a 5 star beach and probably once was but neglect and underinvestment has brought eventual decline. No facilities other than on street parking. Slipway for kayaking. Sandy beach with rocky outliers. Avoid swimming after heavy rainfall, tunnel road drains into the bay π’ top of beach nearest port often stays dry at high tide, nearer slipway high tide reaches sea wall.
Was nice but could be maintained better. Had a really nice time on the sand beaches.
Great beach.....great community feel ..
Beautiful views. Lovely area.Perfect for family days out
Gets busy during good weather. Parking limited. Get there early.
I love this sandy beach and try to come back every year.
Fantastic little beach. Small rock pool with crabs when the tide is out. And a bit of beach left at high tide. Cafe and toilets at the top of the cliff.
Wonderful place to be for a warm sunny day
Beautiful beach and great for swimming, water comes high during spring tides so space is minimal but rarely gets busy.
sandy beach, Parking close to beach. Ramp to sands. Not to crowded.
Access for swimming limited .popular with fishermen. Man made sandy beach .free limited parking .good views .plans to update the whole area .
Lovely quiet beach. Shame theres no toilets!
Not the prettiest of beaches but a locals favourite as tourists tend to stay away from it. We stayed for a couple of hours soaking up some sun followed by a dip in the water.
Beautiful walk. Good for dog walkers too
Does not get as crowded as the main beach, also possibly safer to swim.
Known locally as The Artificial Beach, this used to have beach huts and other facilities back in the days before they built the new road to the port. The sand, I believe originally dredged from the English Channel, is gradually being washed away, exposing chalk rock pools at low tide. Theres still plenty for castle building and comfortable lazing in the sun between some of the deteriorating groynes. It does, however remain a haven for locals, escaping the bustle of Ramsgate Main Sands and is often calmer for swimming, being closer to the shelter of Pegwell Bay.There are no facilities here any more, but you can negotiate the sloped paths or steps up to the top of the cliff, where youll find public toilets and a cafΓ©.Finally, its a popular spot for fishing at high tide, with many anglers taking advantage of the (currentlyfree parking.
One beautiful beach , theres few irresponsible dog owners and litter vandals who think its somebody elses job to clear up after them !
Gorgeous beach.... Only accessible at low tide
Quiet sandy beach away from the town but no toilets. Cafe up on the clifftop
Nice sandy beach. Shallow water some small rocks make it a little hard underfoot at low tide.
Really nice beach. Shame about the fast road running along side it
Lovely and quiet, away from the main beach so no loos or refreshments
Nice for walks. Not much sandy more like muddy near water
Nice beach. Quieter than main sands. Unfortunately no toilet nearby tho.
Lovely place for dinners and walking lots of things to do
Beautiful beach only thing letting it down is too many teenagers dumping their rubbish and leaving
Great beach area very quiet but theres not much shade Im the summer so it would be great for sunbathing quietly but I recommend bringing a beach umbrella if you dont want to tan or at least some sun screenβ¨
Great place to take my dog, she just loves the beach and theres never any other dogs about as my dog doesnt like other dogs sadly, she was attacked as a puppy so has put her off other dogs
Great beach doesnt get to crowded.
Love the quietness but you can only get in the sea on one part due to rocks
Amazing place for a dog walk. Nice big open areas
Western Undercliff, what a brilliant quiet area. Lovely clean beach with wave breakers to shelter from the wind. The sand is sloping so nice to sunbath on. The water gets deep quick so good for swimming. On the down side no lifeguards so be careful and make sure you have a phone. Enjoy.
Beautiful walk for the dogs.
Nice beach, drunks arent a fun sight at the height of summer, in addition to groups of idiots. Variable atmosphere if you fancy bringing little kids down.
Nice beach where Dogs are welcome all year round π
Quite place for dog walking. Good to see sunset and sunrise. π π ππππ
A great stretch of artificial beach from the old ferry terminal to the tunnel. Sadly there are no longer the cafe or toilets or any other amenities unless you walk up slopes to govt acre. There is a group of locals raising cash to buy the disused cafe from TDC and get it up and running :)
Love this beach its home
Lovely man made beach. No facilities though. Toilets are by the Wetherspoons 10 min walk.Free parking though
This is a charming beach area known to locals and quite sheltered. Sadly there are no toilets and the cafe has closed down. It is not supported by Life guards which could be a drawback for families. Mostly a pretty clean sea.
I used to always come to this beach when my son was young. We sat between the barriers for shelter and to make it like a little patch of your own. Much like people do now with their windbreaks. There were chalets and a shop and we could walk along the bottom of the pool playing happily. Now the shop is mostly closed as are the chalets. The pool is full of rubbish so you dare not go around it let alone in it. The beach has become far more pebbly and the noise from the big ships louder. All that is left the same are the wave barriers. Such a shame.
Great place to have a walk with the beach and the boating pool and in the summer its a pickup point for the open top bus for the coastal tour
Lovely peaceful winter walk. Beautiful sunsets. Have even seen seals swimming close to shore.
A lovely, usually quiet, place to go for a walk or a day on the beach. Accessed via the Ramsgate tunnel.
Very quiet in the mornings, great to relax if you want to avoid other busier beaches in the area.Shame the local council dont put some money into improving this beach as it would be so much nicer with facilities.
