Western Reserve Historical Society in East Cleveland
Description
Such a great place.
Beautiful place to host your wedding. Garden areas are beautiful. Guests thoroughly enjoyed it. However, one major area needing improvement is with wedding coordinators. We began the planning process with one person and then about a month before the wedding we were assigned another person. This new person was clueless. When your big day is dependent on the wedding coordinators taking charge and facilitating how the day/night will go they had better be well trained. And when they tell you they will be there early on your wedding day to handle everything, but they show up an hour before the ceremony instead, well that is unacceptable. It created a lot more work for us, which is disappointing.
MoreAnyone looking at this as an option for a wedding venue: I would not recommend. I am giving 2 stars purely on the uniqueness of the location and beauty of the garden space- Customer service doesnt even deserve 1 star. During the whole planning process, staff kept changing- by the date of the wedding we were on our third wedding coordinator Brianna who was completely clueless and 0 help. The second coordinator did not pass on any of the edits to the caterer she was supposed to and said they are willing to put out centerpieces. The handoff off of notes were insufficient which left us scrambling the week of the wedding. All the sudden they said they would not do center pieces and the information we were told prior had to all be verified. The coordinators (specifically Briannacould not be reached by phone, could not be found in person for questions, and did not follow through on any action items or things she said she would do. Due to the lack of communication and not being able to find help, we were told incorrect information which caused more work for all parties involved. Brianna also had a very passive aggressive attitude and sassy demeanor- oh and she didnt even show up until 30 mins before the ceremony meaning all set up and issues had to be dealt with by the bridal party and family. Honestly we should have just paid for space and the venue could have saved money on not paying their employees- Im not sure why "wedding coordinators" were even involved with the very little work they did.
MoreGreat.
Great fun riding the carousel. The museum is a wealth of Cleveland information. The Crawford museum also has so many cars, trucks, planes, boats, motorcycles to look over. The Hays house very interesting.
MoreA plethora of Cleveland born ideas and innovative products. Very well laid out and appealing. Proud to be from CLE!
MoreThe transportation piece was nice, but almost all of the rest of the museum was so narrowly focused on one perspective of Cleveland history that my family and I did not find it enjoyable.
MoreClevelands University Circle neighborhood hosts a host of first class museums and the Western Reserve Historical Society is one of them. The museum houses an eclectic collection of objects about, made in or sometimes just owned by prominent Clevelanders of yore. The museum assembles exhibits that change not infrequently. When I visited, the Women in Politics display was featured as well as Amanda Wicker-Black Fashion Design in Cleveland. This summer they are featuring jazz performances in Thursday evenings, in the central garden court if the weather permits. Evelyn Wright put on a well attended performance on 10 June 2021.The model Terminal Tower is a beautifully crafted piece of furniture. They have a two story tall illuminated Cleveland Indian batting in the entrance hall. There is a grand statue of Commodore Perry that is sure to inspire patriotic pride in the victor of the Battle of Lake Erie. The gondola from the Goodyear blimp.
MoreLove going there!
A little gem in Cleveland that displays certain aspects of history. It is the new home of the Euclid Beach carousel, but more interesting to me is the large collection of classic cars including several stainless steel varieties!!
MoreInteresting automobile section and a tour of the May-Kinney Mansion. The house is well preserved and full of interesting exhibits.
MoreWell run, great displays...history of Cleveland is so interesting!
So fun and had really cool stuff to see but The one lady at the gift-shop was really rude and complaining about how people were taking wedding pictures on the carousel!!
MoreThe recording of culture is history;but our culture is more than that. Its the world of human action, and the myths we make of the fact.--David SmithWhite
MoreEasily the best museum to visit while visiting Cleveland. The Western Reserve Historical Society (WRHSmuseum houses the famous Crawford Auto and Aviation Collection and the Cleveland History Center. There is also a small Library in case you want to look up historical documents of from the Western Reserve era. With your museum entrance ticket, you get access to all the exhibits along with two ride tickets for the Euclid Beach Carousel that will be sure to be a hit with the young ones (or those that are young at heart). Although there are other museums in the museum area, the WRHS is uniquely Cleveland, and cant be found anywhere else in the world. Thus, the highest recommendation from us.
MoreThis is a well maintained and family friendly museum with plenty of stuff for kids. The working carousel is a fun piece of interactive history. The auto and aviation section has some great pieces. Depending on your interest, this museum is engaging for a few hours, but for cutting edge innovation try one of the other museums around the block.
MoreOne of the best places to go in Cleveland with young kids. Very fun play area, tons of cars, and a CAROUSEL! We parked at the Natural History Museum and just crossed the street to go in. So fun!
MoreExcelente guía.
Wonderful, modern museum with lots of great history on the city of Cleveland, old cars and the old Euclid Beach Park Grand Carousel that you can ride twice with a paid admission. The mansion tour is nicely done and full of interesting artifacts from different time periods.
MoreGreat history lessons here. Learn about some real american history.
Great museum for local history. Lots of cars. Also has the Euclid beach carousel and able to ride on it. Also attached is a early 1900s house to tour.
MoreHad our company Christmas party here ... cool place with lots to see and do.
What an unknown gem of a museum! The fact it is made from two historic houses and has an indoor carousel sets it apart from any other museums across the country. They have interesting features for children up to older adults. The working carousel is handicap accessible and the day we were there a group of people boarded on their wheelchairs to enjoy multiple rides. It warmed our hearts. We will bring our tour groups back for a visit.
MoreGreat staff and clean environment. I will be back.
History buffs for Clevelands mansion-era including Hay-McKinney mansion (attached to the museum). Also includes the Crawford car collection and the historical restored Euclid Beach Carousel. They should have a separate entrance if you just want to ride the carousel, though.
MoreExtremely professional staff, good visit overall
Had a blast last night with two teens in tow. Great to experience the history of Cleveland. Beautiful mansion. The staff was very thorough and kind.
MoreGreat place to go to on the weekend
I have never been to this museum. ...and sadly I never will. I was just informed of the way they handled a breast feeding mother. They explained that this is illegal and stealing the innocence from childern. Wow...weather its God or mother nature this is the way humans and all mammals are programmed to feed our childeren. Its the most precious thing a mother can share. Its unfortunate that people and places like this are now allowed to take our rights and ruin our society. I know there will be plenty of responses to this review met with ignorance. ..just a shame where this great nation is right now...makes me sad
MoreNeat little museum, but a bit overpriced. Keep an eye out for days when they offer free admission. Usually associated with festivals happening at Wade Oval.
MoreLove it😄😄. Im a history buff!!! I love the old Cleveland, Ohio and the Suburbs archives...
MoreVery helpful staff.
