West End Hotel in Kirkwall
Description
The West End Hotel (or Guest Househas got nice rooms with all amenities - except, unfortunately, a staffed reception. It takes a long time, too, to get someone on the emergency phone; when we finally got through to them, they went out of their way to help us, but it would just be better to have someone there at least during daytime.
MoreMy room in this very old building had an awkward but quaint slope running towards the door with all furniture at an angle 😁.The lady at breakfast was polite, attentive and effective. The owner / manager who was around often during the day was most polite and helpful and had a wealth of local knowledge. The location was great for a wander around the centre and the private car park was a great touch.Excellent value and breakfast.
MoreGood Rooms and Friendly staff
Ideal for town & Cathedral lovely breakfast warm rooms lovely big TV on wall plenty of sachets of coffee & milk etc various coffee in machine in morning plenty of fruit cereals jams etc will return
MoreGood breakfast different teas & coffees on offer bananas apples oranges lovely warm room large TV on wall will be back
MoreA higgeldy piggeldy layout with no lift. Once in our room, well, it was clean and functional and served our purpose. It was warm and we had a decent night sleep.
MoreVery friendly staff room compact and clean
Friendly staff, clean and spacious rooms with an excellent breakfast. Highly recommended!
MoreFantastic service and lovely food, Will definitely be back.....
Excellent and very professional service.Amazing food. Cant wait to go back again and again.
MoreVisited tonight for dinner on the last night of our Orkney holiday. The staff we very pleasant and gave great service. The hotel has adapted its restaurant well to allow social distancing and a one way system. The food was excellent and if Im ever back in beautiful Orkney Ill certainly make a point of visiting this restaurant again.
MoreAmazing food. Friendly welcome from staff.
A decent hotel, well located. We used it as a hub to drive out on a daily basis. Social distancing measures are in place. Good English breakfast. The rooms have very thin walls, we could hear the next door guest snoring.
MoreI had the chicken supreme tonight and my friend had the satay curry, absolutely spot on. The menu was full of interesting ideas, the food was very well cooked, the chicken was full of flavour, and the creme brulee pudding was fab. Service was pleasant, relaxed and quick, a good atmosphere too. Will be back.
MoreComfortable traditional hotel, really nice food and great value
This is a quirky little hotel in an ideal location for exploring Kirkwall by foot. The bedrooms are fairly basic, but clean and have the essentials. Its the restaurant and bar that make the West End Hotel a destination in itself. These are decorated simply but its the food and drinks that grab your attention. The menu is adventurous without being too pretentious, or expensive. We really enjoyed eating there. The staff know there stuff behind the bar too. They have an excellent mixologist who has crafted a very fine drinks menu. Local gins and whiskies are front and centre of course but there is careful consideration put into what is on offer. If driving, do keep in mind that the hotel is on a short one way street and it has a small carpark to the rear which is accessed from Manse Lane.
MoreThe rooms are ok, service is 5 star. Two thumbs up
Lovely meal, nice atmosphere and friendly staff. Very accomodating for children. I had the pulled chicken burger and it was tasty but not mind-blowing. Makes a change to the usual Orkney bar menu though.
MoreWe had a family dinner here last night and the food and service were excellent. Best veggie burger Ive had in ages!
MoreGreat place. Lots of character. Really nice staff. Great food and excellent beds. Highly recommended
MoreQuiet good food friendly staff away from the busy crowds
Fantastic service, brilliant food. Very impressed.
Fantastic cocktails, great food, awesome beer garden
A family friendly place nicely decorated with excellent service. The staff were very attentive and well mannered. Our meal was excellent, cooked perfectly and very good value for money especially if you went in early to take advantage of the early bird special. I would not hesitate to recommend this place to eat.
MoreWe have stayed at West End for the last five days and it has been absolutely fabulous extra special mention to Em who was a stand out ,nothing too mich hassle . She made great cocktails and is super efficient . I hope management are appreciative of this great staff member. Will recommend this hotel for its food, location and cute boutiqueness
MoreLovely meal here for my birthday. Its clean and bright with neutral decor and fresh flowers on the table. The staff were friendly and welcoming and efficient. There is an early evening menu which is great value but a bit limited in choice for us. We chose from the full menu. Lots of choice and priced fairly. The food itself was excellent. A nice touch was a bottle of tap water on the table ideal for us as we are teetotal and dont drink much soft drinks. There is an extensive drinks menu too. We would definitely go back. Book a table in advance it got very busy.
MoreVery nice. Hotel gradually being done up by new owner. Room comfortable, though shower pressure poor. Nice well stocked bar & no complaints about the food. Would certainly use again
MoreNice hotel and friendly lady on reception. See also arrange a taxi for me to the airport for the next early morning
MoreReally lovely Sunday lunch. Roast with all the trimmings followed by the best hot chocolate brownie Ive ever had. Service was very good and the restaurant is small and cosy.
MoreGreat place for a meal or a drink in the lounge area and very friendly staff. The steaks were excellent.
MoreDelicious Food, best cocktails in Orkney. Staff were very attentive and friendly.
MorePlace was warm and cosy, inviting atmosphere, staff were not only prompt and polite but also very informative. The food was served on time and all of us were very happy with all 3 courses. The food was lovely and would definitely recommend the west end to anyone heading out for a meal.
MoreDelicious Sunday Roast, friendly staffs .Suggest to built more window coz very limited sunlight although I went there in early of October.
MoreVery good food here, I have just had dinner here so I dont know how it is to stay here.
MoreThey have a great little restaurant with really good food. Its small and they book up fast, so its best to make reservations in advance if you can.
MoreGreat food, great service, affordable and AMAZING selection of cocktails.
The food was excellent and the service was very good
Loved the 3 course roast on a Sunday, amazing value too!
Family dinner lovely food good service nice atmosphere .
Lovely food keenly priced would definitely recommend.
We had a great stay here, with an excellent dinner and huge breakfast. The staff were friendly and really helpful, going out of their way to find additional information for us.
MoreOlder hotel, dated in places but with character. Food was good, staff friendly and no complaints on the bed or quiet. All then depends on price ;)
MoreLovely Sunday roast with friends. Nicely done inside. Good meal.
Really nice staff and excellent food and a nice pint too!
Was good when Robert and Giffie owned it. The new owners/management are appalling. Treat their staff and customers like filth, and even ban them from the premises. The decor is so cold and uninviting now, and severely lacking in atmosphere, and I dread to think what the food might be like. They have ripped out everything that made The West End warm and cosy, including the little tidbits memorialising the history of the building. Will never buy anything from there.
MoreGreat food and friendly staff, they also serve a good selection of local beers
Warm welcome, good service, great food and reasonable prices. What more could you want?
MorePopped in for a quite meal before getting on the ferry for the Shetlands. Had a delicious steak that was prepared as requested and some yummy dessert and french press coffee in the lounge.Delightful service and reasonably priced. Would definitely recommend.
MoreThis is the best place you are going to find anywhere! I had a wonderful relaxing FUN stay! Cant wait to go back!
MoreFirst stayed there in 2012 with my sister had such a lovely time great food and Robert and Giffy are ideal hosts .booked again this year love the place a home from home.
