Werdenberg Castle in Appenzell

Lovely place to visit!Well preserved medieval streets leading to the castle.We havent visited the castle as we deemed the price quite high (CHF 12 pp), but it might as well be worth it.

Very beautiful castle. There is a cafe at the entrance with a castle beer and different coffee options. Excellent. There castle inside is very beautiful with lots of historical artifacts. It is worth it for the history lover, art lover or interested in old decor. Must see when visiting the area.

Beautiful natural place and peaceful mind recreation.

MUST VISIT if you are in the city of BUCHS. A small walk from the town leads you to this beautiful place which still maintains its medieval era. The moment you enter the route to the castle, you eyes will catch glimpse of these very old but beautiful houses and the streets. There are multiple photo spots, one on the way up and one on the top, from where you can admire Swiss Alps all around you with small Swiss villages in the valleys. A small shop is present at the top where you can have coffee or snacks as you refresh yourself with the view. There is a small lake there, which provides a stunning view of the castle and the beautiful medieval houses.

Charming city around the castle.

Its a nice place to visit while someone is in Buchs. Walking around the lake, feeding a birds and walking up the castel is a nice way to spend time there. I enjoyed being there, although it was closed.Absolutely recommended! Walk around, have a lunch in the restaurant up the castel, visit the old ages houses, get an ice cream by the lake! Enjoy the sun, the view of the mountains around.

Amazing small castle village

A wonderful castle with a lovely lake. It has a beautiful medieval town around.The castle offers a great exhibition of the history of this region, and its rulers. It has a few originally preserved rooms, and hosts cultural festivals, exhibitions, and camps. On the top floor you can see a 3D map of the region and the lookout tower offers a great view. I would definiatelly recommend visiting.

Nice castle above the lake

This was super interesting place. If you like old stuff, you need to visit this place. This Castle is 900 years old approximately. Interesting construction, and family living arrangements. Very strong and you can see whole town from top of it.

I had nothing to do on Saturday so I searched on tourism for something near to visit and I found this castle , its very close to the main city of buchs , very easy to find ,I went on the street leading to the castle, you will feel like you went back in time because that part of the village is maintained to look like its straight from medieval times , its gorgeous the lake view with those houses is absolutely gorgeous ,you have multiple ways to get to the Castle on situated on the end of the village (stairsthe other one is a walk up to the main entrance , both with potential for great photos.When you reach the top you will see a small shop with drinks , snaks and coffee, the castle is open to the public , if free entrance! I saw everything inside it , there are zones where you can listen to the castlehistory and many other atractions in both English and German (its a great+!You will see how it did work, the rooms ,functions ,practically everything.My visit was super pleasant and inrecpmend to anyone that likes monuments to visit SOFORT the castle !

Werdenberg, the tiniest town has its own castle atop the hill. It serves as a museum now and is open for general public

A wonderful place to be. The buildings are so beautiful and the little village has just a peaceful vibe. The Castel self is with a visit with a lovely bistro outside. Outdoor and indoor seats for sunny and rainy days perfect. Kids love it too. A place to go!

Several nice multimedia experiences, and everything is very well put together. Overall an extremely good value and a good time. So much history that I wasnt even aware of from any other sources.

Jens loves his photo & drone shoots in the eraly morning. Of course only if he didn‘t go out till late the night before. Nice castle and view from top if you are in the area. I wouldnt come here if I am not very close to it.There is a parking at the base, you have to pay during the working days only (free sunday).
