Asamstraße 32, 93309 Kelheim, Germany, Nuernberg
Monastery founded in the 600s, with one of the world's first monastic breweries & a restaurant.
Beautiful place on the Danube. you can easily reach it by boat from Kelheim.Church to visit as well as the brewery where you will find an excellent beer... the oldest brewery in the world... good and affordable food. The walk from the cliff across the river gives you a great view of the abbey.
Definitely worth a visit! One of the most spectacular churches I have seen. Also, a fun atmosphere at the pub where you can have a beer from the worlds oldest monastery brewery.
This place is so beautiful. Not at all what I expected but stunning
Interesting old abbey on a beautiful and remote section of the Danube. I wish them good luck continuing the tradition.
On my "To Do Again" list. Was loving the dunkle picked up from a local store not knowing that our sons future mother-in-law had booked a river cruse- lunch at the Abbey. Everyone was happy with the food and, of course, I was loving the dunkle.
Beautiful place with lots of history. Tour was a great mix of facts and interesting things.
Beautiful place to visit. Good foodprocessor, good beer, but also beautiful church to see. The trip with the boat from Kelheim is a must!
Beautiful monastery, unfortunatly it misses some onsite information for historical interested visitors.
Stunning!! Also definitely worth getting one of the small boats up the danube to the narrows. Church was amazing. Well worth a visit
Beautiful place, great beer and food, and Gin made in Silence!
My favorite light hiking spot in the area. Starts in Kehlheim and gives you the most picturesque views along Danube river. The Kloster itself has a typical beer garden for that rest stop in between. A small boat takes you over the river from the hiking track for around 2€, have coins ready.
Lovely spot. Very busy when we visited in June. Nice beer. Large eating area. Lovely boat trip down the river.
Must see/do, if you are in the Region Kelheim/Regensburg:have a Beer and a pair of white sausages with Pretzel at the famous Monastery 👍🤩
I definitely recommend to visit. There is a great view from the top of the cliff.
A beautiful way to spend a day. Great food and delicious beer at the Biergarten.
Last time I was here was 20years ago definitely alot more people come here now then back then. I dont recommend the big boat its crowded and not nearly as nice as hiking through the forest trails you encounter very few ppl and the hike is beautiful as the forest is old and has little bits of history within to discover. There is a small boat called Zille that will take us across the river for alot less $$ this same boat will also take you half way down the river on the way back to access a different trail. Weltenburg itself is a beautiful monastery beer is great food is good to but its def become a tourist place its not as good as it used to be. Church is still very beautiful.
Lovely place to spend time with family and eat some dinner with beer.
Exceptionally beautiful abbey with lively beer garden. Well worth a visit!
A great place to eat, friendly staff, good food. Recommended
Good place to visit. Rich history and the ride with the ship was good with beautiful scenery
Very nice big place, delicious and seasonal food with their own brewery! Definitely worth a visit!
Its a beautiful place and the holds great stories. Loved it because of that but it is a highly commercialized spot. Some people may enjoy the onsite beergarden, others may not
The boat trip to Weltenburg was fun. 40 min to get there and 20 min to return to Kelheim. Around 13 euros 2 way trip per person. Boats available every 1 hour. We went on Monday (May 23, 2022). I wish they accept credit cards in the boat. Only cash :(. Beer was delicious. The tour was fun 🤩
Very nice beer garden with heritage.
Situated on the banks of the Danube, this Benedictine monastery brings with it the history of religion and the history of the oldest brewery. You will be pleasantly impressed by the landscape, architecture, history, gastronomy. From a few meters you can take a boat that will take you on a short cruise on the Danube. In the courtyard of the monastery is the terrace of the restaurant where you can have a feast or cool off with a local beer. Outside the church there is a museum, an old brewery and if you walk along the tourist route you will be able to visit a Roman archeological site, a wonderful church on the hill and other beauties that you will discover for yourself. Enjoy!
Nice place to visit and try frankonian cuisine and bier
Beautiful church, the wall and ceiling paintings are breathtaking. I was speechless. There was a lady introducing the architecture and history of the church in German (yeah, unfortunatelybut all in all, its worthy to visit
A wonderful monastery! Start in Kelheim via ship and it will be even more impressive, especially in October when the leaves are changing. There is a restaurant in the monastery which is pretty but very(!Tourist focused - so dont expect too much. Better just have a drink (Weltenburg is the oldest monastery brewery in the worldand eat somewhere else.
Weltenburg AbbeyVisited on 23/9/2019Our coach is parked at the foothill, and our group is transferred to smaller buses to the Abbey.Weltenburg is the oldest monastery in Bavari, situated near the entrance to the scenic Danube gorge. The church, dedicated to St George, within the compound is of baroque style. In fact, the guest house run by the Abbey is called the St George Guesthouse. The aroma of the cakes baking the in oven is too irresistible, and attract us to check out cafe. The abbey brewery is the oldest abbey brewery still in operation in the world, and the products are on sale. My friend buys a 5 litre Keg of Weltenburger Kloster Anno 1050 beer intends to be drunk when we depart Germany in a few days time.We then take a stroll along the river bank at the far end of the compound.
Wonderful place great food and tasty beer 🍺
Wonderful place, it seems to be in a fairy tale... The boats, the river Donau and the cliffs, the impressive monastery, the brewery, the wide valley... sit down near the river and admire the unique 1st Bayern National Park.
I must say this Kloster had been an amazing trip for me. Not far from Munich, one hour drive and you will reach there. Frome there you can hike up hill or you can take a boat ride to different cities. No to forget one of the great dark beer they offer. We drank beer on a boat ride which was great. Cold dark beer from Kloster with some of the amazing view from Danube and Gorges, what else do you need. When you reach Kloster you have a free parking place but you need be there but early if you are traveling on the weekends. Inside Kloster there is a beautiful church to visit.
Nice quiet place. Added that its on the Donau, makes it more special
Amazing place near Danube, too pitty an excellent restaurant inside was closed. Hope it will be available soon.
Weltenburg Abbey is a beautiful place at a distance of about one hour from Munich, Germany. A river passing through it, adds to its beauty. It has lot of viewing spots on the hills in near vicinity. It is good place for tourists for spending complete day.
Really pretty, everything’s closed for corona but it was still cool to see. I’m sure in the summer it’s very nice. It was also very flooded during our visit. Otherwise very clean and well kept.
Beautiful setting. Walk here over the hills or take a boat through the gorge and be sure to try the excellent dark beer.
Very pacefull location, food good, bier fantastic!!!
Absolutely fun filled boat trip to and from Kelheim. The beautiful Danube river and nature will put a clam n smiling feeling.
Amazing historical Monastery Church and Brewery. Beautiful cruise on the Danube to get there. Highly recommend it.
Totally awesome MUCH see in person. Not only is the location spectacular, but Church inside is simply AMAZING. Truly one if the best in Germany. Then top it off with one of the dark beers in the world. (Doubt me?ask the World Beer Council.
A beautiful monastery located in a gorge by the Danube. Great Biergarten and amazing surroundings as well
Beautiful history paired with world class beer and food! The food is often served fast within a couple of minutes
Very interesting interior with stained glass and the wall paintings. Our guide pointed out many of the details. Went to a pub near by and the dark beer was the best. River was pretty low so you could walk quite a bit on the river bed.
This is a MUST see if your in this part of Germany - just walking down the road towards the abbey is exciting, when you arrive your wont be disappointed. The history behind this abbey & church is what make it all the more enticing. There is a church within the abbey grounds where you look at the front face and its plain but you want to go in - when you do your mouth will drop open - this church with workmanship within is just stunning & awe inspiring. I remember being told only 5 kilos of gold gild was used within but it seems so much more - the frescos on the side walls & the ceiling stunning - my attached pictures wont do it justice - see it with your own eyes - it wont disappoint. Oh its right on the Danube River so it again makes it more beautiful.
Excellent location, beautiful setting, a perfect day out from any of the cities around Bayern. The beer is very good and the service is excellent, but the food is okay.
Good food and beer. Family, friends and group visit would be good fun
Awesome location. Great views. Amazing beers and food. Be sure to try the Anno 1050 at least once every 400 years.
A lovely place to spend time with friends or family. Good beer, food and beautiful nature. Very historical too.
Beautiful abbey! Great traditional Bavarian food. We took the boat from Kelheim, its €10.- for a return ticket. Recommended if you can find the time to visit the oldest cloister brewery in the world and are willing to taste the amazing beer.
