Family-friendly attraction featuring vintage-era, electric tram rides through parks & beaches.
A Kapiti Coast institution! A must see/must ride attraction that turns back time. A cool way to get to the beach and reduce your carbon footprint: park the car, grab your gear & tram your way to the beach! ๐ค๐งโโ๏ธ๐จโ๐ฉโ๐งโ๐ฆ๐ฆโฑ๏ธ๐

Great place to visit if youre at all interested in the history of trams in New Zealand.Beautifully restored trams run a 10 minute journey to the nearby coastal walk. And you can ride the trams as much as youd like (rather scenic I might add).Good fun for the kids if they enjoy trains/trams.Also a neat little museum at the site.
Great place to visit looking at all the saved history of trams. Tram ride was enjoyable traveling out to beach
Great little space, you may need to come earlier because the tram operation hour is not punctual.
Very interesting to see what trams looked like many years ago. If is fun to go for a ride to the beach with the friendly and Informative volunteers.
Totally a wonderful experience. Trams from times past in Wellington city. Museum to spend time in. Lovely to see the heritage of our capital city being preserved here for the future generations.
Awesome facility maintained by volunteers.
Kids loved this place! Ride the rail out to the beach and back, learn about trams at the museum, and have an ice cream in the park. A perfect day out!
Thought there would be more stops
Awesome
Great place to learn and experience NZ tram history.
Great amature run museum with a ride on old tramcar to the beach and a workshop displaying a good deal of historical info on Wellingtons teams and cable car as well as lots of tram memorabilia. Please visit & support the work done by this group of tram enthusiasts.
This is an amazing spot. I had a nice chat with the conductor, he had great knowledge about the trams and was helpful. We took a oneway trip down after riding horses. and the surrounding areas was s pictures.
Enjoyed the tram ride, Driver Steve was very informative. They do great work in restoring the old trams
A fantastic destination for an interesting day out. Take a ride on the 100 year old trams that have been beautifully restored after being left for scrap. Visit the tram museum, a shed full of memories of Wellington in the 1900s. Talk to the engineers and hear their enthusiasm and enjoy their stories. Bring a picnic and explore the beach! Our familys happy place!
Hidden gem, great guys running the place and amaing machines well cared for. Worth a visit.
Low key little museum, run by lovely volunteers who are passionate about the trams and their history. Gorgeous, well-restored trams, and a nice little ride down to the beach and back.
Guys who run this are great, its well worth a visit to take the tram to the beach and have a picnic.
Entry by donation. Very interesting and fantastic view. Didnt have time to ride the tram but it looked like fun
Fun ride
Brilliantly presented, and organised .
Take the tram for a ride on Sundays, its only $2 and such a cool experience.
The trams are from the 1920s and 1930s and were used in Wellington. Now they restored and cared for by volunteer members of the Wellington Tramway Museum. As its a not-for-profit incorporated society there are donation box if you wish to contribute. The museum includes more trams, old trams that need restoring, history of the trams and lots more to look around. They have a video running that explores the history which also includes black and white video footage. Open on Saturdays and Sundays, its worth the time to visit. They have trams that run from the museum down to the beach and back - what a great idea.
An important slice of history
Good history on the trams used in new zealand
You can take a ride with the tram in Queen Elizabeth park. The kids loved it. It is not so expensive. The tram driver was so kind and patient. I asked him lots of questions about how the tram works and the use of the different handles, meters and gadgets. He even had a wealth of knowlege about the history of trams. I was amazed that the tram was built in New Zealand. I had the worng assumption it was built in UK as they invented trains. The museum is small but filled with lots of old trams.Highly recommended. Good family time ;)
Nice place to stop by. Good history of the tram ways and a good place to look at the old trams.
Amazing history.
Great place to stop for a picnic and a break on a long journey. Team was great and the staff are knowledgeable and friendly!
Fun ride on the trams
I only wanted to buy a cold drink from the shop/office on my trip past on my mountain bike. But obviously due to staffing issues the shop/office is operated by the tram driver so only open when they are there. Pretty bad as quite a few people went over too wanting to go inside.
