Charming coffee house with breakfast bites & New American lunch items, plus a backyard beer garden.
It took them 20 minutes to come out with a regular burger and Costco chips. And they charged $9 for the plate. The service is terrible and inefficient. The place might look nice but there is no substance to it.
Nice spacious indoor area and pretty back patio. I enjoy stopping by to "work from home" when able for a couple hours. Tasty food and I like how you get a choice of coffee, tea, or wine :)
Got a scone and a mocha on a whim. Everything was excellent, and the staff were so friendly too. I’m very happy I found this place
Great environment inside and out - 5 starsCoffee is fine - 3 starsFree sample made me a cold brew fan - 5 starsScones! - 6 starsStaff: slowish, low-key (kinda friendly, kinda not- 3 starsYummy veggie bfast sandwich - 5 stars
The Way Station Brew is a definite "go-to" for folks in the Berkeley area. Start your morning with a house made scone and a rich cup of coffee. If you want a full breakfast they can cover that too. Many tasty menu choices. The Egg sandwich Warrens Way was a favorite of ours along with the Grilled Cheese filled with freshly caramelized onions. Add some bacon and you have the perfect sandwich. Music on Friday night added nice ambiance to the place. Great place to stop in for some music and burgers on a Friday night. Microbrews, wine and of course, all kinds of coffee.
Really cute. Nice mellow cafe music. There is a cute outdoor area. I sat with no wait. It is clean and the service and fast and friendly. I will be back!
The restaurant is attractive, both outside and inside. It also features a very enticing rear patio. The service is quite friendly and the food delicious. Adding the 🍄 medley to the 🥑 toast transforms the dish into a fragrant and full flavor breakfast. The olive oil drizzle on top of the avocado also adds a balancing note to the whole dish.
One of my favorite places to get coffee. It’s easy to accumulate rewards here for a mimosa (8 days straight for me).The staff remember your name, and welcome you back like we’re friends. I haven’t had the food here but the Kyoto coffee drip is highly recommended. The espresso drinks here were also excellent! My only gripe is they froth the milk in my cortado instead of just warming it up :)
I love this place - its an amazing space with great food. Its been closed for several months now, and I really miss it. I hope everything is okay with the staff and management.
I only got a coffee here and it was delicious. I came in at the end of the day and the staff were definitely exhausted. Extra tip, and extra patient. The patio in the back was delightful and quiet. Would return.
Fantastic coffee. Since the coffee seems to change regularly, I find it tastier some days than other. HOWEVER, the variety is actually an added bonus since it helps me explore new coffees.
Way Station is one of the best cafe/restaurants in the Bay Area; great food, good coffee, nice people, amazing atmosphere. Ive always felt welcome here, and will continue to come back as often as possible :)
The place is very lovely, food is fresh, tasty and not expensive and the service ist great!I was there with a group of 25 to have a get together and the owner of the restaurant was very helpful and organized everything in the way we wanted it! Therefore I can also recommend the place for larger parties! But even if you just want a cup of coffee and study or catch up with friends - perfect!I would give 10 stars, if i could!
Way Station Brew has the best coffee and best service in Berkeley, hands down. Its got a cool bistro vibe and a fantastic, sunny patio in the back. The beer selection is great or - if you prefer - a mimosa or glass of wine. Im really glad this place has survived the pandemic (so far)! The owner is a very friendly and kind person who cares deeply about his customers and staff - a rare thing these days. Support this place! You will not be disappointed.
Way Station Brew rocks!Great coffee, food, beers and baked goods. The yogurt is epic and the service and vibe are top notch. My favorite is their chicken thigh sandwich.I love this place and you will too!
My favorite place in Berkeley to enjoy a cup of coffee or beer and people watch. I really appreciate the how the Way Station has adapted during this crazy COVID time. Kudos to the owners and staff for remaining a resource and refuge for locals and visitors alike.
Way station is so great! Fantastic atmosphere, a caring staff, great food and drink (i love the beer selectionplus they check for vaccines which is a very responsible business practice in this day and age and most appreciated. Love this place! Have been coming since it opened and will continue too.
My favorite coffee spot in the entire Bay Area! Owner and staff are so down to earth, the coffee is DELICIOUS, the chicken sandwich and the cranberry scone are my go-to, and I love that they uphold safety re COVID. <3 !Nino
Great cafe with excellent coffee, food, and staff. Been coming here since 2017 and this place has only gotten better with time, and thats saying a lot considering they are a very small operation that managed to survive a pandemic and recession. Excellent beer options, great outdoor patio, and they frequently host local pop ups in the evening that serve great food. This place is a local staple that has been serving the local community for years, and I appreciate this cafe taking public safety seriously and following the mandates placed by the city of Berkeley. For those who dont like it - take it up with the city and stop trying to ruin the reputation of a small business because of your own personal agenda.
Fantastic neighborhood joint with a great breakfast sandwich and strong coffee. Recently theyve been doing pop-up dinners which are really good too. And they have outdoor seating on the patio in the back.
Way Station is awesome! Great coffee, pastry and food selection! They even roast their own coffee! Perfect place to study, grab a drink or have breakfast, lunch or dinner!! A lot of their food and pastries are made in house as well! Do yourself a favor and go to Way Station Brew!
Been going to Way Station regularly for the past three years, even through shelter in place, because they have a great outdoor patio. Food remains delicious and staff are really helpful and friendly. Highly recommend!Love Way Station! It has the best coffee, and even better scones - a little bit crunchy on the outside and moist and tender on the inside. Their full fat yogurt is house made and breakfast sandwich is full of flavor. They have a great ambience, with comfortable seating, great service, and fun back patio.
I happened upon Way Station in search of caffeine one morning. Super friendly staff and one of the best almond milk dirty chais I’ve had! I am now a regular Its not just brew - caffeine options earlier in the day too!! Also love their outdoor space.
Beware those 1 star reviews which are an anti vaxer attack. Remove them and this place rates a 4.9. I’m a regular. It has the best coffee in a effete coffee town. Excellent local brews and the #2 breakfast sandwich is sooooo yummy. Try the smash burger with the works. Yes, include the bacon.
Anyone who knows me has heard me say this a million times: Way Station is the Love of my Life!!! And as a Capricorn, I do not say this lightly. I am a long-time proud patron of these folks because not only is the food, drink and atmosphere here utterly divine, but Way Station is Family. As a Vin Diesel says, "Anything for Family."For years Way Station has warmed my soul with their kind and caring staff; their fragrant lattes & beers; rich, juicy sammies & burgers; and they even have hearty vegetarian options and popping brunch delights. (Blood orange mimosa whooo!?)Their outdoor patio is a slice of Berkeley heaven. Its a great place to grab a beer and meet some cuties (and by cuties, Im talking about the best pups in town !Theyve got dope pop-up chefs coming thru to elevate your weeknight cravings and live events to bring the community together. These folks go above and beyond to keep the community safe. And, if you stay long enough, youll always leave with a belly full of joy.
My wife and I held our wedding welcome event/rehearsal dinner here earlier this month, and choosing Way Station Brew as our venue was probably the best wedding-related decision I made after proposing!Warren and the Way Station staff went above and beyond our expectations:- the staff were so warm and inviting, and the service absolutely impeccable;- the food was incredible (by Sfizio, @sfiziopasta, at Way Station on Wednesday and Thursday nights);- Warren curated an impressive selection of wine and beers from a variety of local breweries;- Warren brought in a UC Berkeley jazz quartet to serenade our guests;- and all the thoughtful little touches, from the gift bags of freshly roasted coffee for our guests to the fresh bouquet of flowers at the bar, were the icing on the cake that showed us how much Way Station wanted to help make our special weekend something to remember!Thank you Warren and Way Station Brew for a memorable evening! Looking forward to making even more memories next time were in town!
Really good coffee and unparalleled baked stuffs. The scones are SO good - I don’t normally even like scones - these are moist yet very firm. Beer selection is also very well curated. Do make sure to have proof of vaccination, as with all dine-in places nowadays.
This is my go to spot when visiting Berkley ! Not only is it super conveniently located, everything from the food/drink, atmosphere, staff, and music are always on point, warm, welcoming, and delicious. Not exaggerating, they have the BEST scones I’ve ever had. Not to mention whatever kind of bacon they use omg. There’s also an amazing, spacious back patio which is great for those still feeling unsafe eating indoors ! They also check vaccine cards at the door which made me feel extra safe dining there !It’s just a perfect place whether you’re a student looking for a new study spot or just looking for a good cup of coffee and a snack :•)
Way Station is the best place in Berkeley with the delicious food, drinks, and kind staffs. They are loved by locals. All the espresso drinks are great, and they have a wide selection of beers, so its fun to decide which one to try every time I go. My favorite is Chicken sandwich and Brisket sandwich, and they also have Vegan sandwich. Its absolutely delicious. I can always have a nice relaxing time here.
This oasis in the heart of downtown Berkeley is easily my favorite cafe in town. The food is always delicious, the portions are more than generous, and the coffee and scones are second to none. The wonderful crew working behind the counter complete a wonderful dining experience. Very, very highly recommended
My new favorite spot in Berkeley. Love the vibe. Cool music inside and great patio in the back. Coffee is delicious. A group of us had lunch there and everything was great. Yummy BLT and Chicken sandwiches. Staff is super friendly. Well be back!
Love Way Station! Neighborhood gem for sure. Great place to hang out with friends or just chill and read in the back, which has been like an oasis over the last year and a half. They make great coffee and have a really nice selection of wine, craft beers, and cider to chose from. The food is yummy homemade fare. Especially love that you can get breakfast anytime. Their keto breakfast is the bomb. Two fresh eggs, amazing gluten free toast, perfectly ripe avocado and some apple slices. My new favorite breakfast out. I also love that you can get a nice juicy impossible burger. The folks who work here are super nice. If I lived in the neighborhood, Id be there every day. It is worth the drive from El Cerrito. Two enthusiastic thumbs up.
My favorite coffee shop in Berkeley! The coffee is amazing and every item from the menu I’ve tried I have loved. I really recommend the way burger, it’s unlike any burger I’ve ever had before. Great outdoor seating area and the sfizio pop ups every wednesday/thursday nights are amazing!
GREAT coffee, delicious scones with a lot of variety (Blueberry, Strawberry, cinnamon and more). Also had a grilled cheese which was pretty goodHas a really cool vice to just sit and work or study either inside with great music or just outside in the sun. They have standup comedy night every 1st Thursday of the month!Great prices for the coffee and scones.
Cute & quaint cafe in Berkeley! Constant flow of people on their morning coffee runs, so you know its a trusted local hotspot. The girl at the cash register was super nice and down to earth, which is always a bonus.Their avocado toast looked simple but was delicious and had a good balance of flavors, especially with its small side of arugula salad. The grilled cheese sandwich was super cheesy and yummy as well. Though they had run out of scones by the time I ordered, Im not too sad about it because I know Ill be returning to try them out for sure!
*Fantastic* gluten-free granola with fruit and yogurt. They also make their own gluten-free bread, but didnt have any when I visited. The coffee is just okay.
Had their Cappuccino. Absolutely out of this World. Even had a design on top compliments of the Barista! Thank you will return soon!
Great food and drinks. Had the breakfast sandwich #2, super quality ingredients and thoughtfully crafted. Flat white with sage syrup, very nice and subtle. And the scone was solid. Really cute back patio with a good amount of seating.
Wonderful food ( we had the chicken sandwich and the Way burgerFriendly staff and great local IPA beer selection. Although the patio was full we enjoyed the very tasty lunch at a small table in front. Their Sunday fish feast menu looked awesome and plan to go back for that next.
I used to live a block away from Way Station Brew for many years until this summer, and even after I moved away from the neighborhood, I keep coming back to Way Station Brew. I come back its coffee which is also lovely and warm and fragrant. I like it so much I have bought their pound of beans and grind it at home as well. Lately, I have been coming for its burger (it is REALLY good, especially for a cafeand beer (which they have really expanded since COVID started). The outdoor dining area is like a secret garden, one of the best open-air private spaces in Berkeley and the larger East Bay. Warren is the owner, and he is such a caring, capable captain of this ship. When my friends and I need a place to still meet safely, the top choice is Way Station Brew 8 out of 10 times. Make it yours place to meet and have a merry time.
AMAZING espresso, the best flavored syrups, stunning mimosas, and over the moon scones. A place not to miss!! They have a cute back patio that has 5-6 spots and is open during COVID! Also, super delicious breakfast and lunch items! Toasts, sandwiches, burgers, and great vegetarian options too! Truly fabulous
We love this place!! Great fare, beautiful patio, down to earth people. Coffee roasted in house, homemade scones, an unrivaled breakfast sandwich. Lattes made with sage and rosemary grown in their garden. Nice beer selection and they even serve smash burgers a few nights a week.
Avocado toast was really good. However, it was pretty plain with just Olive oil, salt and pepper. Im used to going places where they have a large variety of toppings like salmon, etc. BUT still delicious!I really liked the fact that they roast fresh coffee right there in the cafe. #impressed
Really nice hipster cafe w gourmet nom noms.Coffee had a nice dark roast and w offered a nice filling station to add my own cream, cinnamon, etc...my grilled cheese could have come out one of SFs finest hipster cafes if I didnt know better with its perfect crusted sour dough and microgreen salad on the side... Sexy presentationNice lighting and luckily enough table space for me to tuck away into a corner and ooze over my food and coffeeBathroom was a bit sketchy, is that standard in downtown Berkeley? Should I just be happy they had a bathroom at all?
Updating my review. Started coming back here because of the outdoor seating and the service is much improved from 3-4 months ago the baked good and pretty good Cold brew here is okay. Free WiFi and a very nice back outdoors seating area.
Pretty standard Berkeley coffee shop with some excellent food. I’m not a huge avocado toast person, but my friend ordered it and my general impression was that it wasn’t anything special. The sourdough is good, but still pretty basic.I loved the whipped ricotta toast, though— a really good combination of sweet/savory and it kept me satisfied.
Great coffee, good food and a little bit of Brooklyn in Berkeley. Attitude included! We went over for brunch and sat on the patio, its a beautiful brick building with tons of sun.
I think this is my favorite breakfast spot in Berkeley.Food is exceptional quality, the scones are wonderful (as is the bread). Coffee is top notch for a small cafe. The ingredients are not skimped on at all, they even make their own yogurt! On top of that, it is not over priced at all.The only con is that the counter service can create a small bottleneck, so please come prepared to be a bit patient! But once you are seated, it never takes too long for the food to come. At which point your taste buds, and stomach, will be immensely pleased!Well worth every penny!
This place is the bomb. So clean, tasty, and friendly. Always playing awesome music. Counter staff is always sweet and helpful. DELICIOUS food, seriously this place is nailing it. Its so small and you might not expect it to have such a good menu, but it definitely delivers. I love their arugula salad and homemade soup. Also the scones and lattes are awesome.Yum!Thanks Way Station!
Love this place!I love the staff, the patio, the $4 mimosas all day on weekends... The veggie sandwich. This place is a gem.
