Waterman's Hotel - Bar in Hobart, Australia
We loved it here. Great communication with owners and location was perfect to see beautiful Hobart. Recommend for any couple. No parking onsite, but the hotel made it easy to know where to go.
Great selection of cocktails, and tasty well sized meals.Great oysters Kilpatrick.
$28.50 for 30ml of a 500ml bottle that costs $44 dollars.
The best pub in Salamanca with great service and inside dining as wall as alfresco. They have a great beer garden for functions with its own bar and an amazing gents toilet. It is something that has to be seen to be appreciated and understood. The food is sensational and the staff are delightful and funny particularly the tall guy named Justin. He will make your day or totally ruin it. Just go there so you can say you have had the Watermans experience. 👍🤣👍🤣
Very nice and comfy Place. Very clean too
Stayed in Hobart for work and stayed upstairs in the apartments but had the most fantastic afternoon at the bar. Barman recommended some Tasmanian wine and orders their prawn skewers, Salami and flat bread. All delicious. Staff were excellent and not to over the top as I have found before when i dine on my own.Overall will definitely be coming back next time I am in Hobart.
Beautiful place to stay! Friendly and attentive service!
Thought their $10 pizza was excellent value. Big feed for one, good snack for two. My $5 bubbly was nice too. Nice atmosphere and location. Has a large cocktail list too.
Fantastic venue. Great staff especially the Licensee. Excellent food options. A must visit.
Stayed in the hotel with my partner for 4 nights. The good:The location is great, there are heaps of bars and restaurants within walking distance, the stone walls and exposed ceiling beams are really cool and unique, the bed is comfortable, linen and towels were good, we couldnt hear any noise from the pub while in the room. The bad:TV is outdated and small, no smart TV in a "4 star" hotel in 2022 doesnt seem right to me. Lighting is a little dim in certain areas of the room, water pressure of the shower was bad, only 1 roll of toilet paper provided for 2 people on a 4 night stay. The soundproofing between floors of the apartment isnt good, constantly sounded like people were stomping around upstairs.Overall it was a decent stay, but I dont think its worth the asking price in its current state to be honest.
Great pub. Outdoor seating at the front. Plenty of indoor seating. Pleasant staff. Picture 3 is of the mens urinal....one way glass😂😂😂
Had a great pizza and beer. Not too busy, but yummy.
We dropped into here for cocktails after dinner. Excellent and friendly service. A great find. Liam was an excellent host and great fun. Thanks for topping off a great evening.
The photos on the website looked beautiful and I suspect at one stage this was indeed a beautiful hotel. It is in a great location and the limestone is beautiful. However, it has fallen into a state of disrepair and for what seems to be classed as a 4 star hotel was devastatingly disappointing for our honeymoon. The carpet had deteriorated in many areas and the sideboard/TV cabinet (against which the bed was pushed up on one side, meaning to get off i had to crawl to the endwas so deteriorated you could see the screwheads poking through (see photos). The high rafters were beautiful but covered in dust or cobwebs- i was sneezing so much we got a PCR test! The one light in the bathroom bright enough to do my makeup had to be turned off every 5 minutes as it started to flicker. The furniture was old, faded and in disrepair- none of the beautiful leather in some photos. And we had the ugliest view- but i recognize thats just luck of the draw in any hotel. We have never felt so deceived by clever marketing and were so close to forfeiting our money to stay somewhere else but decided to simply minimize our time in the room.We were so glad to leave and check in to the beautiful Tasman Hotel!
We enjoyed a three night stay at Watermans last month. In advance, received thorough details about our stay (things to do, location, parking etc). Check in was contactless and seamless and as we arrived early, the management held our bags. The room was clean, comfortable and spacious. The only negatives were - as its located in the heart of Salamanca it gets quite noisy on the weekend and parking for us was a bit of an issue. Otherwise a wonderful stay.
Delicious meal and wine. Great service. And value for money.
$5 great northern all day and Frank Sinatra on stereo what more do you want
As we entered the building we were greeted by a friendly bar man who made our group feel very welcome. The food and drinks were great, good price and the service was fast and efficient but what stood out to me the most was the amount of people that stopped by the bar as they were leaving to thank the crew ( in particular Liam for an amazing afternoon and good service!Good old fashioned class service is lacking in so many places so it was a pleasure to see it and we had a wonderful time at waterman’s hotel. All the staff were friendly but Liam and Sarah exceeded my expectations and made our weekend trip to Tassie a little more special. We will definitely return!
Brillant location on Salamanca square. We had a room on the first floor, really hot in there (March). Could not have windows open due to street noise and no air con (desk fan provided thankfully). Bathroom small with no fan for when showering. Small kitchen looked good with fridge, stove top etc but we did not use. Clean and comfortable otherwise.
We have had a fantastic experience here on several occasions over the past week. Food has been great and staff amazing. Look forward to coming back on our next holiday in Hobart
Lovely place. Super friendly staff. $10 pizza, very tasty. $5 drinks in the arvo. Worth a visit.
Avoid the gnocchi! It’s served in a weird soup of vinegar and gravy, it’s hard to imagine anyone with functioning taste buds could enjoy it. Apart from that, the flatbread was good and the lamb ragout was ok. Drinks are way overpriced, unless you like Great Northern - expect to pay $12 for a schooner and ~$15 for a small glass of wine.
My partner’s ragu was really tasty but the pork gnocchi tasted overwhelmingly of vinegar.
Great service and location. Stayed here with my partner late Jan, absolutely beautiful accommodation, excellent Covid procedures you dont need to see anyone to check in, we did go down to the bar but you could see as many or as few people as you were comfortable with. Food was great we took up to our room one night for an easy night in. Would highly recommend and stay again.
This was one of the best pasta and tiramisu i had in hobart. This place needs to get busy! They have pretty amazing cocktails too. And hey!!! They still haven’t run out of café patron!!!!
We stayed in a room with no view...in fact there was a dead bird outside our window! The room was nice and the stone walls were unique. Bath was superb. The whole place needs a bit of love including the carpet, light fixtures and cleaning the windows. The location though is tops. You cant get any closer to Salamanca if you tried. Great eateries on your door step and as a quick weekend jaunt in Hobart we couldnt complain. Beds comfy.
Located in a really lovely historical building on Salamanca Place. I found it very central to restaurants, shops and places of interest. Managers are polite and very helpful. My room was spacious with a view outside of the window onto the leafy street below. The bathtub was lifesaving after spending 10 days travelling in a campervan. The bed and pillows were very comfortable. I enjoyed my 2 night stay.
Went on a Tuesday at 5pm. Cozy seating and relaxed atmosphere. The $10 pumpkin pizza was perfectly cooked and tasty. Asked for extra mushroom on top which they did for no extra charge. The gent who served us was lovely too. Overall great experience
WARNING - STEER CLEAR! Absolutely terrible place to visit - the building is poorly maintained, the place is filthy and the customer service is the worst in Australia. The owners are completely unprofessional and go missing, do not respond or block you when you request a refund - what company does that? They think your money is their money! Do yourself a favour and spend your hard earned money somewhere else where the vendor will provide you with value for money with a smile on their face. Absolute disgrace.
Great surroundings and great staff. Contemporary Italian so we jumped into a bowl of olives and some Prosecco...then onto the main event of gnocchi, ragu and Tasmanian gin....the things dreams are made of! Highly recommended
Oh my goodness what a delightful find! Superb drinks, excellent service from super lovely staff. We stumbled across this place and were so well looked after - gorgeous venue 😍
Beautifully renovated heritage accommodation in the middle of Salamanca, walking distance to Hobart and the waterfront. Quick and easy communication. Would definitely stay again!
I have had to cancel a booking for a work trip booked back for 9th August 2021 due to Melbourne & Tassie were both under lockdown. I have been chasing for a refund since 10th August. They dont reply to emails or nor do they answer their phone. This what you call a first class of terrible customer customer service! Ever book here.
Recently had our engagement party at The Watermans , The Hosts and staff are very friendly and accommodating, great food and drinks. The accommodation is amazing. Highly recommended
Don’t go here for breakfast, we watched several tables around us looking disappointed and hungry. One family next to us had two separate breakfast deliveries and one meal that just didn’t arrive before they had to leave. After 40 mins of waiting we still had a 10 minute eta.......we had to leave hungry.
Directly leading to the Salamanca markets and convieniently located!Sarah the owner was incredibly friendly to both my partner and myself and we loved our time there and will happily stay again if we are ever in Hobart
Called in to check menu, and we were welcomed with smiles and helpful suggestions. Host was super friendly as was waitress. We loved the food and drinks, both reasonable prices and the hotel was very warm and comforting. Make sure you visit and sit awhile.
I ordered the bruschetta and it was served on a wooden board instead of a plate. The cheese rolled off the table onto the floor. Luckily, nobody saw this so i put it back on the bread. Very tasty.
Avoid this place like the plague unless you want to be ripped off. They dont honour their advertised deals, which are the only reason youd stay there in the first place. The room I stayed in had evidence of carpet beetle activity, there was filth beside the bed, the bath was unable to be filled except from the shower, the blind needs replacing and the television cord was broken. The lighting was terribly dim in the bathroom. The room was really noisy from people just walking around upstairs (no insulation). There isnt anywhere to keep bags for the day if you want to pick them up before heading to a later flight. Responses to queries are very late. The towels and bed linen were the only positives (clean and fresh).EDIT - Id love to know what parts of my review the owner believes are lies. I definitely only had one conversation with them about the main issue, not "many many". Even then, the partial refund that was promised to me for just one of the deals that they wouldnt honour never turned up in my account.
I was walking around in Hobart trying to find a chilled spot for a good feed, and came across the Watermans Hotel. As soon as i walked through the door the Manager was welcoming and said to take a seat and he would be right with me. I found a comfortable spot and over he came.I ordered some Oysters to begin with, which were top notch, very fresh and tasty! I then went with some grilled fish with salad, also very tasty, smaller portion, but it was filling and went down with one of the many beers they have on tap.The environment was very relaxed, quiet, some chill music in the background and comfortable seating throughout, including booths for your groups to sit back and have a few drinks, or more.Overall it was a great place for a chill bite to eat, which was delish, and the manager made all the difference with attentive service, and attention to detail. Thanks for the feed! Will be back again in the future!
We had the most amazing lunch (was my brothers birthdaytoday. The pork belly with pear and fennel was absolutely mouthwatering. The gnocchi with beef cheeks was seriously unbelievable compliments to the Chef. My brother had the rabbit pie and said he is having it again. The atmosphere is warm, relaxed perfect. Service absolutely 10/10. Thankyou we had a wonderful time.
The restaurant experience was phenomenal.Andrea, our host, was friendly, informative and thoughtful regarding our dietary issues. She generously offered to speak to the master chef.To our surprise, the chef, Daniel, came to our table and offered to accommodate our specific dietary requests.Daniel and staff are extremely aware of the many allergies, intolerances, celiac and other issues that many people suffer.I appreciate the authentic awareness the chef and staff have towards a great dining experience for even the more “challenging” patrons.Highly recommend this gem of a restaurant.Bon appetit!
Walked into a fabulous restaurant tonight. Our host Andrea was just a breath of fresh air. With dietary requirements the chef, Daniel Smith came out to see me and prepared a perfect meal for my needs. His understanding and knowledge made the whole process extremely easy and the meal was tasty and very satisfying. Would rate this one of the best restaurants I have been in for quite awhile. Highly recommended 😀👍
Great place to stay. !!!!!Great rooms- old sandstone mixed with ultra modern excellent facilities. Washer/dryer, fridge, wonderful bathroom. All right on Salamanca place next to Constitution dock. Bar below had great beer, wine and food. Really lovely staff when we arrived. Will be coming back!!!!
Odd check in service with no explanation on how to check out (check out rules - minimal may I add - were in the hotel information file so very easy to miss). Noisy from the bar downstairs. Good location for the Salamanca Markets on Saturday’s. Otherwise would not stay again - had high expectations but was let down. Very expensive. We could hear the room above us walk around constantly (they must’ve been wearing high heelswhich was very annoying. Many beautiful places to stay in Hobart that I would rather stay at.
Loved this place so much that we went back a second time. A wide choice of ale and the food prices are very competitive. Friendly staff.
Good selection of beer and food. Well priced, always tables to sit. Great place to meet friends and catch up.
I was nervous about staying here but chose to because the rooms looked so nice and they were. I could live in that place. The sandstone walls and see through shower. The huge bed was so comfortable. Great view. Awesome food in the same area. Delicious breakfast at a great discount the next morning. Yes, its a little noisy. But, theyve done the best they can to stop it. I didnt think it was to bad. Probably would be worse on a weekend. I would recommend and stay there again. Loads more character than a regular hotel room. Thank you for a pleasant stay.
We only had dessert here as we had already had the misfortune of eating elsewhere. The service was extremely slow and we had a different person ask us the same questions multiple times before we were actually able to place our order which we had been certain of right from the start. The menu was misleading and when our dessert arrived we were disappointed. We did see many mains being served while we were there that looked delicious and we overheard a couple of people comment on their meals as being good. The hot chocolate that accompanied our dessert was delicious and so we would be willing to try it again for dinner.
Beautifully fitted out rooms: preserving the raw sandstone walls, but with all the shiny new ultra modern comforts, like the rain shower... We were a bit concerned about the noise when booking, due to the location above a bar, however our room was very quiet. Very good location too, near all the markets and tour operators ... we loved it.
