2 Maha Chai Rd, Wat Bowon Niwet, Phra Nakhon, Bangkok 10200, Thailand, Bangkok
Buddhist temple complex, home to a Loha Prasat, known as the "metal castle" for its 37 iron spires.
Netty. Was. Here. So beautiful at night.
This is a grand temple if you have been there.
A wonderful place. A rare find. Not crowed. The temple looks so beautiful and clean.
Only metal stupa found in Thailand. Its a very beautiful Buddhist temple.
Every Monday and Friday at 5 pm to 7 pm you can hear beautiful songs of mantras
There are 37 spires, one each for the 37 virtues to reach enlightenment. The three-tiered design has a wooden spiral staircase in its centre, so you can ascend to the top, but also step outside to take in the view at each level. Quite a captivating, and very photogenic wat.
Great to view the gold mountain temple from the top here!
Chill and very calm temple especially in the morning time. And the cafe inside, stuff working there were really nice and kind. Definitely going back to get the toast and coffee there
Beautiful temples. Sadly empty of tourists these days, but makes for even better photos and gives more spaceGood time to visit
Incredible beautiful structure temple since very longtime in BKK
This Royal Pavilion is open for public with very impressive structures and details of the building. It isnt far from democracy monument. Better bring an umbrella and water coz the place is really Instagram worthy.
Very nice Lord Budha temple. Big statue of Lord Budha inside the temple. Place is very calm and quite. Location is easy accessible.
An absolutely stunning temple. Unfortunately a lot of tourists do not visit here but the architecture, the peace inside is sootheningYou will find tuk tuk rickshaws waiting to get a customer. Here is what we got: Lucky Buddha, Big Buddha, Three Gem shops (they get commission from here if you buy). The final drop to MBK Centre for a total if 60 Baht for two peope.
Totally Fabulous. The highlight is the wonderful "Loha Prasat", this structure just blew me away. It is now the only remaining building in the World of this design with the Original one in India and the second in Sri Lanka destroyed. Its construction dates back to King Rama III, 1846. I love its symmetry and the internal design of crisscross corridors and open passage ways between each tier. Do be sure to take the central spiral teak stairs all the way to the top where you get great views of the whole Temple site and modern Bangkok skyline. The rest of the Temple buildings are good, but the Loha Prasat is truly exceptional and a joy to visit. I had the place almost to myself when I visited.
Great temple that gets overshadowed by it’s more famous neighborhoods. I had a great meditation on the ground floor. Very quiet and not busy when I visited. They allowed full access to the temple. I climbed to the 4th floor the energy on the floor made the hair on my arms stand up it was amazing. The view from the top is great as well. This was one of my favorite temples in Bangkok
One of the most interesting temples in Bangkok. Loha Prasat is not far from Khao San road, so is very easy to get there just walking 5 minutes.
There is a market of buddha immage and Hindu god statue here. The medal castle is a signature of this temple, the top of medal castle contained Buddhas relics
In busy Bangkok, one of the hidden gems. Most people go the the Golden Mount and pass this one by. I just love the shaded archways and the quiet pace.
World’s last metal castle…Good place for meditation and let go from everything. You can find peace of mind & soul here. Top of castle contain Buddha’s relic inside.
Very beautiful place. Quiet and calm. Light up in the night is wonderful.
Good place,The place is so clean. Before entering the temple please put your shoes in the provided box.
Good spot to sit back and start meditation. A place provides not only a splendid architecture but also a good spot for meditation by sitting or walking in different zone or even a museum space. Each floor has a different activities. The shade and shadow with gold reflection is mesmerizing. On the top floor is represented the enlightment with an open view of stretching old town.
The temple has unique feature; it’s made of steels!! People in Thailand calls this temple ‘Metal castle’. The corridor is quite small upstairs so I would prefer to visit this place when there’s less tourists (during pandemic for example)
Not what I had anticipated.. beautiful.. serene.. historic and some very interesting perspectives and views. Six floors to explore.. with several views that took my breath away..For the spiritual visitor.. this shrine offers a prayer station on the very top of the Chedi at the reliquary mount.Loha Prasat feels new..despite the grounds being older and more time-worn.Worth a visit .. expect to spend about an hour ..A 20 Thai baht donation is requested at the entrance for maintenance and upkeep.Closest MRT is SAM YOT... about a 15 minute walk from that station to Loha Prasat.
The Loha Prasat is a magnificent example of Sri Lankan influences on Thai Theravada Buddhism.Commissioned by King Rama III in 1846, the Loha Prasat is modeled after two earlier temples, one in India and the other in Sri Lanka. Of the three, the Loha Prasat is the only remaining, and is extremely well preserved. The 37 spires are perfectly placed on what is also known as "The Metal Castle" to represent the 37 steps required to attain enlightenment.Id highly recommend this temple; it is magnificent and shimmers in the light but also affords a lovely 360-degree panoramic view from the top of the 36- meter high lookout point.
I visited this place in 2015 and the temple was quite spectacular. I actually wanted to visit another temple but the tuk-tuk driver cheated me stating that this was the temple and I couldnt verify because everything over there was written in Thai language. This temple as such is beautiful.I happened to capture few photos before some of the pillars were painted in gold as you see them now.
I visited the place this weekend and it was beautiful, clean, and well made, there is no entrance fee except a small voluntary donation of THB 20/- for the maintenance of the place. I researched and found that Loha Prasat or "Metal Castle" is located in the grounds of Wat Ratchanaddaram, constructed in 1846 by King Nangklao (Rama III), it is 36-metres high, supporting 37 metal spires, representing 37 virtues towards enlightenment. The original inspiration seems to have been from similar temples in India and Sri Lanka, with multiple concentric square levels built on geometrically aligned pillars, with the Buddha relic at the highest level. One can sit at various places and pray or meditate as one likes. It is under UNESCO consideration as a world heritage site listing.
Very unique and stunning temple. Easy to access close to the Main Street surrounded with many museums. Inside the temple was very clean and peaceful for the meditation. On the top, the visitors can see the view in 360 degree
Free admission to this spectacular Thai religious arts that has been totally restored to the glorious past. It was built during 7 reigns of the Chakri Dynasty of Thailand. It is the third and only existing in the world. The other 2, one in India and one in Sri Lanka disintregrated due to time. The mmnane Loha Prasart meand that it had metal roof of multistoey structure built of the dwelling and religious rite of the buddhist monks.
One of the temples which I have seen both day and night. The size of it is just right not to be overwhelmed. Lovely architecture and design which can be seen from a nearby park situated in front of it. Some cats roam the area which are gentle guardians of the temple. Worth a visit. Just went here to enjoy the view of the temple both outside and inside.
This building is really awesome!! You can see a bunch of Budda statues in the building!! It’s gorgeous and magnificent!! You need to make a donation when you get in. And you have to respect their religious policy. No short pants and sleeveless shirts. It’s very calm and you can take stairs up to the top!! Every floor and direction you can see illuminative statues lines. It is really worth to see. You can take pics but do not make big noises. Some Buddhists are visiting and making worships. Really nice place so enjoy with respect!!
Good place to go to if you need inspiration to practice mindfulness. English text on signs makes it useful for non-Thai.
Located in a temple. Good View point of Bangkok up here. You can see the golden mountain and royal route. The architecture itself is quite unique from others around this area. The entrance fee is reasonable for Thais and foreigners.
Beautifully maintained temple and site hosting at the peak the Buddha relic. Quite nice view.
Beautiful! 20 B for foreigners, but SO so worth it. Absolutley loved it. If you make it to the top, theres a beautiful view of Bangkok.
Takes you to another dimension of beauty and Buddhism.. You get to climb the tower which is fantastic because each floor has been cordoned off for a different purpose of Buddhism.
Must visit place in bangkok.free entry. But 20 baht for maintenance. east to find grab or taxi over here.
Amusing temple. Great design. One of the most beautiful temples in Thailand.
A must see temple if you are in the area for only 20 baht entrance fee. It was not crowded when we were there so it was very peaceful. There are many different floors so you can walk around for a while and get a great view of the city from the top
Quiet and calm atmosphere, not many tourists here. I think better than golden mountain temple which is just the other side of the main road
This Wat has multiple levels, each dedicated to a different aspect of the teachings of Buddhism, such as 1 level about sitting meditation with chairs about, one level about precepts with plaques explaining them, one for walking meditation with corridors to walk, and the top has descriptions of the phases on the way to the very top level, nirvana. Its construction is beautiful and the view from above shows the whole city. Its also called Loha Prasat on some maps and not far from the corner where monk bowls are being made.
One of the most impressive temples in Bangkok. Its 36 meters high and the 37 spires represent the 37 virtues on the way to enlightenment. If you are in good condition take the spiral staircase all the way to the top for a magnificent panorama on Bangkok. Below the top spire youll find a small Stupa containing some of the ashes of Lord Buddha. (see photo).
Loha Prasart is near Ratchanatda Temple. Recently it has been renovated. It’s also not far from Golden Mount and Democracy Monument. It has 7 floors. Each floor is decided for each purpose. From the history of Loha Prasart and its model, siting meditation, walking meditation, reading floor, and the last floor had the Buddha’ relics. You also can enjoy the view around Ratchadamnern area.
I have to say this temple is my second favorite in Bangkok, its a one of a kind in the world. Just beautiful. Unfortunately they are renovation underway so we were not able to go inside. I definitely want to see it when they complete the renovations. The area around the temple was very nice to explore.
Come in the early morning for less heat and walk up stair to the top floor to check out nice view of surrounding. The temple itself when look from the outside is also marvelously beautiful.
Visit! This place is magnificent and not in the normal list of temples to visit, but should be. The meditation activities takes you up levels within the building to an incredible view of the city; take time to walk each floor.
Very beautiful place to visit especially the top level. The detail and traditional Thai roof architecture can be seen up close which is a rare opportunity. It has a great view of Bangkok old town
A gem hiding in plain sight. Stumbled upon this temple by accident, but it turned out to be a wonderful discovery. Very quiet and peaceful with terrific views and some nice breezes blowing through the walk ways. Buddha relics at the very top of the temple.
I love to stroll through this temple, it is always very quiet and there is some draft in the corridors. spectacular views. You can see the golden mountain. In the surroundings there are two markets of Buddhist figures and replicas at very low prices
Religious or non, this metal temple welcomes everyone. The history of its making is amazing and all the information you need is written in English and Thai. Spires surrounding it represents the virtues leading to Nirvana. Worth spending some time.
