Wat Mahathat Worawihan in Samut Songkhram
Description
Privilege
beautiful place
The temple is worth a visit, my only critisism would be that areas are a little run down and need some TLC 🙏
MoreImpressive, need to visit
Need mire cleaning.
Nice temple in the Bkk wat Arun temple style. Very peaceful and quiet in the center of the town
MoreThe temple has a lot of donation boxes without reason....
Beautiful architecture and peaceful place. We were very lucky that it is only two of us at the temple that allowed us to meditate.
MoreThis site is dominated by the impressive large white stone stuppa. You can get into the inner area of this stuppa by looking for one of the open access doors from the surrounding corridors. The Temple Assembly Hall is also open with Buddha Statues placed so that people can "make merit" adding thin gold leaf strips to the Statues. The inner four sides corridor surrounding the Stuppa is lined with Gold Buddha statues behind glass cases. However the glass cases are very mucky and really need to be cleaned.
MoreVery beautiful!
Beautiful place. Parking Lot Available. Recommended.
🙏
We dont know what exactly founding date of this temple. But from excavations suggest the first structure were built in Dvaravati or Sukhothai period (around AD 11th - 12th ).The Phra Prang was built in Khmer style and restructure at beginning of Ayutthaya era (around AD 15ht - 16ththerefore, we can see the mixed style.
MoreOld temple in the middle of city center, the big pagoda is temporary closed.
Wat Mahathat is a must to visit when you go to Phetchaburi the old town. There are many unique features such as the Prang Pagoda with five tips, and one of the most beautiful mural paintings in the country, and much more to see.
MoreNice place and local people respect this temple too much
The size of the pagoda is impressive when compared to the surrounding buildings. Also take time to appreciate the beauty of Buddha images and stucco.
MorePhetburi white clay, lovely and interesting.
Very old pagoda with a long history of the temple. You can walk around pagoda and see many old style art here
MorePeaceful and well-kept temple
Arrived late afternoon so very few people. The prang is impressive and the main hall has a variety of buddha statues, standard fare but good for temple lovers!
MoreCrowd of people here, the famous temple. I love stucco architecture absolutely attractive things. Not much car park lot. Locate in the center of city.
MoreBulit by Khmer people during Sukhothai peroid. Unfortunstely, you cannot get close enough to check out its design as it is not opened to public.
MoreAmazing temple with a hundred plus golden Budhas ..even had an ice cream cart!!. Sadly no English commentary or legend on the information posts so we were not sure what we were seeing. Worth half an hour nevertheless.
MoreOne of the well know temple @ Phetchanburi
Beautiful temple in ayuthaya. One of the top temples.. they have prepped the market so that it is easy for visitors to walk by to go to the temple...
MoreBeautiful murals inside!!
Buddha would be happier if at least one of them shared their own things with the poors. Rather than building huge towers. 😂😂
MoreAyuthaya era wat. Dont miss the murals inside the main hall.
Good
The old temple since Ayuthaya era and this place is respected by Thai people, there has old Jedi for worship and make you good luck.

MoreImpressive stupa-like wat. Pity its surrounded by buildings obscuring view.
Good place for donation
Great temple with Five pole Jedee
Historical architecture with religious. This place is worth for your time visiting Phetchaburi. You can take a walk around te city and then you will see top of pagoda. I like the minor temple beside the main one because it looks more antique and they can preserve all items. It not look to buddhist business that much.
