Wasabi Japanese Steakhouse & Sushi Bar - Japanese steakhouse in Lynchburg, United States
Our chef was great and the food was also great. Our server and her manager were the complete opposite. Around 30 minutes to run 4 credit cards is unacceptable. The managers said it was acceptable because the server had other tables. Meanwhile the server from the other side of the table had been taking care of us to the point I asked if we could have her as a server. While our sever ran our cards the other server completed the same task in a 10th of the time for a larger party split on more cards. Our food orders were messed up, luckily the chef was able to correct them.Based off the managers response and tone, which I was happy to match I would not recommend this restaurant if youre on any type of time schedule. Again, food was great.
Came here for my birthday and maybe it was just a bad night. I’ve been in the restaurant industry for almost 10 years so I know it happens. We had 5 in our party, they sat us and deliberately told us we had the 2 seats at the end and 3 on the side. The 2 people in our group who were on the end went to the bathroom and next thing we know there’s a couple sitting down in our people’s seat. I said to them that I think there was a mix up because there’s 2 already sitting there and they shrugged their shoulders and said well this is where she told us to sit and they sat down.. I went up to the host stand to tell them there’s been a mistake and they just gave our seats away and she came back and said yeah well is it ok if they just sit over there? (Pointing to the 2 seats at the other end of the tableI shrugged my shoulders and said I guess… this made our whole group on the same side and it made it much more difficult for us to be able to all face each other to speak. I feel like the way it was handled was a little too unprofessional. No apology for the mix up and could’ve asked the other people to move since the seats were taken to begin with.. Clearly there needs to be more organization at the host stand. The drink service was pretty much non existent, I’ll assume the server was overwhelmed since he came to the table only once for drink refills that were never actually fulfilled. The ONLY good thing about tonight was the chef, Dede. He turned a (not so greatexperience to a much better one, simply because of his amazing personality. Thank you Dede for putting smiles on our faces. He’s why this place gets 4 stars instead of 1.
Terrible experience, our waiter was extremely rude. Hibachi chef had no regard for non meat eaters at the table. He cleaned the grill off to make fresh noodles that didnt touch the spatula that had meat on it. Took meat off of of of our group members plates to reheat it .. and touched the fresh noodles with it. I asked for a side of teriyaki after the meal was over. The hibachi cart was not even to to kitchen , and he told me they had thrown it all away. 😑
Had a great time all round and the food was delicious. Had left overs for lunch the next day superb!!!
Had dinner with my family of 8. They were kind enough to give us our own table. Very friendly staff, nice decor, but mediocre food and presentation. They also charged for items that they initially indicated were included in dinner such as fried rice. The portions are very large as well.
This place is great we had no reservations walked right in got a table quickly. Food was good chef was funny even for kids.
I would love to love this restaurant, but every time I go there is a problem with the bill. I mean nobody wants a high bill, but in this type of restaurant you kind of expect it so you cant really get upset when you get it. My problem is that the server never seems to get the order right! I ordered a Steak, Chicken and Shrimp combo Then I saw you could share for $8 more. Cool I thought, cant go wrong - add two drinks! I figured would nibble on my wifes plate cause I wasnt able to eat (I have medical problems). Suddenly I have a bill for $125.00! Wow, they charged us for two combo platters. So we told the server and he did nothing to help. We spoke to the manager "quietly" and he offered no relief. It was a hard position to be in because the food was excellent and for the most part so was the service. How can you possibly complain? Well this has happened every time I have went there and Im tired of accepting responsibility and thinking I must have done something wrong. This time I didnt order for the other couples that let me know they paid too much.....ALL THE WAY HOME! I didnt break a sweat paying for the food, but petty complaints just make it not worth going to a restaurant. Even McDonalds cant be pleasant if they get your order right!
oh man. dont forget to order the best calamari ive ever had! and miranda (the serverkindness was overwhelming when visiting for our anniversary after covid. perfect experience....came back to celebrate our youngest sons birthday, with server lexi. she was just as sweet & food was fantastic again. another perfect experience. thank you so much for making these times for us special.visited again for sushi & again server miranda was amazing & sushi is fantastic! love the edamame, montrose roll & alaskan summer roll the best!good hibachi, excellent sushi. another pleasant experience!
The very best hibachi around!! Never had a bad experience! I highly recommend try them!
I was disappointed I just didn’t want teriyaki on my chicken and steak and they had to cook my food in the back, they didn’t understand me and didn’t put teriyaki on my vegetables my chicken and steak was over cooked then I went to the restroom it was so dirty tissue all on the floor and camodes were dirty as well yes DeDe was great as usual but I’m not a happy camper all because Mayah can’t listen to understand and Peter is trying to be stern on her not listening
The service was great. The food was plentiful and delicious. The only problem was the fact that one is rushed. Once all of our food was fully prepared and placed on our plates, our waiter returned with to go boxes and our checks and stood there until we made our payment. We really had no time to eat our food.
We had a lunch meeting here and I upon arrival, I noticed a lot of cobwebs and the place didn’t seem that clean. The koi pond and fountain in the lobby was cool… maybe that’s to distract you from the cleanliness issues 🤷🏻♂️ We were seated and I ordered the shrimp teriyaki. The presentation seemed good, but the shrimp were not cleaned well and they were over cooked and rubbery. Everything was just not good! Ended up not feeling well later that evening. Will not be returning.
I really enjoyed this place.I took my friend there for dinner. Ive been there several times and, this was his second time thereIt was his birthday he was happy with the experience and the food was good. The only thing that I would complain about is...I didnt like the having to scan the menu in with your phone. We asked for a paper menu and, it seemed like it was kind of difficult just to get someone to give us paper menus. It was so dark in there the phones couldnt pick up the scan code so we had to ask for paper menus and they seem confused because of that.I would rather look at a menu instead of scanning that QR code.Others at our table felt the same way.I didnt like that experience with the menus.
Amazing food and portions. The chef we had was great at preparing the food, seasoning and cooking the food perfectly. I only wish he would have interacted or had a little more flare as it was my kids first time, but they still enjoyed it.
The food is average. The rice tasted like it was fresh out of the microwave and box. I was disappointed. They give a lot of food but granted the price should match the amount. The staff were incredibly friendly though.
Let’s start off by saying I love Wasabi but my last two experience were not what I expected out of them. Aug 24th I went and I ordered a triple combination and a steak and chicken combination. Both with the steak medium (got it over well doneshrimp was over cooked and also my 2 salads were missing. I called after a hour of trying to get through they basically said come back and pick it up (no consideration to gas costI sent a email and when I the manager calls me the next day I explained the situation and basically she said oh well. I feel if you’re spending this kind of money you should get what you’re paying for and if a mistake happen they should try to make you feel better as a paying customer. They failed me!!!
Our chefs name was Oozie(dont quote me on the spelling lol). He was AMAZING! We frequent all of the locations around CLE and this experience was the best! The tricks and comedy was new and the food was seasoned in a way that we have never seen and it came out so good that everybody at our table forgot to use their yum yum sauce! We all joked about it as we packed our to-go boxes. We will be back and we will be asking for Oozie!
Its been a while somce I have been there but I know the waitress should have asked if we wanted an appetizer or dessert. And for the people who whined about sitting next to someone , Buck up, you were at a hibachi spot. Whaaaaaaahhhh
Great Hibachi dinner. Huge portions! The chefs do a great cooking presentation.Complete Hibachi dinners range from about $24-$38. They also include a soup and a salad. You get the meat (steak, chicken, filet...cooked vegetables (zucchini, carrots, and, onions), white or fried rice, lo mein noodles, and 3 shrimp for an appetizer. The portions very large and the photos a posted are after we were done eating about twice as much as we should have. 🙂 I dont know why they offer dessert because you will have no room for it after eating the huge meal.
We were there for an employee dinner but the place was full and it was extremely loud and there were several families with little children who were misbehaving and just being loud it was also very warm inside we did not stay there were 16 of us we left to go some more palatable. We ended up at Lockkeepers and it was wonderful it was not loud it was not hot and the food was exceptionally good, and there were no bad children running around the place. I do not recommend Wasabi for anything side note the floors are also very greasy and slippery seems like a setup for many lawsuits.
Food was good they did special order of no salt - chefs at other grills were entertaining- our chef was a dud. Met new people and had good conversations.
Their sushi is really good and very fresh!! The rolls are pretty big too, it is pricy tho but worth it. The hibachi is pretty good also, they give you alot of food for the hibachi and it’s fun to watch them cook it in front of you, very entertaining! This place gets crowded around evening time tho. I highly recommend this place if your looking for great sushi and hibachi!
We were in USA for 4 weeks and my son, who lives here, chose Wasabi for our last night together. Our chef, besides being a great entertainer, was awesome. Definitely worth a visit
Brown sushi. When I asked them to remake it because it was the worst tuna Ive ever seen the hostess argued with me about it and told me the chefs say its normal. Any other sushi Ive ever ordered has some kind of color to it. This looked rotten. Any other time Ive been there the service was so long and the hibachi was just ok. Just go to any other typical hibachi or sushi place there is nothing special here.
Best sushi around for sure. And the rest of the food is amazing every time. Though I have had the scallops over cooked a few times unfortunately. They always do seafood last in case there are any allergies. We love eating here!
The food is good and the little "show" they put on is entertaining. They do need to dust the bottles along the wall and get what seems to be rags off the rafters. But other than that it was an enjoyable evening.
Food portions were great, cooked throughout but used a LOT of garlic. Could use more seasoning. Table was full with 4 parties (10 people totalduring pandemic should have spaced a little other than that it was a good time
Always nice to go to Wasabi! Ive never even tried their hibachi yet, but every time I go for sushi we get to sit right down and food usually comes quickly! The ambiance is always nice- its quieter on the sushi side but you still get a lot of the noise from the Hibachi side. Its not too bothersome. The servers usually seem overwhelmed though, which is sad, but it is hard to find staffing now.
So disappointed. I asked to swap an item for another - asked if there would be an upcharge..the waitress said no...great. We chatted about how up charges were basically unnecessary. She then asked if we wanted white rice or fried. One of us opted for fried. And she never mentioned that it was an extra $3! Even after our conversation. To make it worst it was just rice with soy sauce. No vegetables, pork or egg to be found. Complete ripoff. Who serves fried rice that way? Shrimp tempura and veggies were really greasy. The salmon teriyaki and miso soup were the only 2 bright spots of lunch. The entranceway could really use a clean-up. Gave a bad first impression of not being a clean place. Windows and handles need to be washed. I know this is NE Ohio and our weather is ridiculous, but you can get rid of the bag of salt. It is July 1st, and there is a bag sitting on the window ledge. There was also a completely ripped-up bench for guests to wait. Spend the $150 and buy a new one. The plexiglass divider on the hostess stand was dirty, with multiple signs taped to it. I think a hostess stand should be more presentable and not a cluttered mess. The appearance, the blah food, and the so-called fried rice.. Sad to see this, as I used to like it, but Im done.
HORRIBLE HOSTESS AND MANAGER!!!! Made reservation for 10 on a Sunday for my sons graduation dinner and they claimed I never made a reservation. I had requested the private room and although it wasnt being utilized, they said it was for reservations only. I said I had a reservation and said well if its not occupied and nobody has reserved it ( although I hadcan we use it. They said no because they had to clean it and it just wasnt going to happen. Ive been in that room plenty of times, the only thing to clean in the grill, same as they would had to if we sat at the regular tables. The manager Poa has a nasty attitude, no people skills. Didnt try to accommodate our party and said she doesnt know how I made my reservation online, I must have made it up. Although I had the confirmation email.People this place is overpriced, HOSTESS are nasty and dont try to say youre calling corporate, because they claim to be family owned. GO down the street to Hibachi steakhouse, much better food, cheaper, and definitely friendlier staff and feels like a "family " owned business.
Ill never go back! It was a party of over 10 ppl. We all were definitely going to tip... and Im sure 10 bucks or better each. So to have a bill of over 120 and then be forced to tip $21 is not cool. The chicken wasnt even cooked good and the service wasnt good either. NEVER AGAIN!
Grilled squid was 10/10, hard to do because it quickly becomes rubber. Lightly seasoned, which is perfect because it often comes too salty for my taste. The crab roll, although simple, was my 2nd favorite above the other rolls (Alaskan and Montrose). It was very busy when I arrived, glad I did take out! Would come again definitely for take out.
We always come here and get the same chef and never leave dissatisfied. Absolutely amazing food and service. Weve been coming here for almost 12 years and dont plan on stopping.
Excellent food and customer service every time that Ive been here. The chefs are extremely charismatic and funny, and seem to really love their job. The waitresses are really attentive and super helpful. My only complaint I would even consider having would be to have more flavor with the fried rice, but it is just how they cook it. Other than that, the food is absolutely delicious. Ive had the hibachi each time, and every time the scallops, shrimp, and chicken are delicious and cooked just right. Not too dry or too juicy, just perfect.
Since the pandemic the quality of everything has really taken a hit, and this is no different. The atmosphere, showmanship of the cook and food quality and quantity has definitely taken a hit. I expected better for a $100+ plus meal for 2ppl. I wont say I wont be back, but it will definitely be a while.
Fun evening, delicious food and festive atmosphere!
No complaints. Luckily we sat with some good folks for dinner. The cook was fabulous the food was good.
Was out first time going out to wasabi since they originally shut down for covid last year.Overall, was still a fantastic experience. Given the nature of hibachi style, seems they are challenged at distancing unlike parties at the tables. We were fortunate that the other party seated at our table was opposite side of the grill so adequate distance was possible.Food was exceptional as it has been on every visit. I got the chicken hibachi meal, with shrimp spring roll appetizer. That, combined with the soup, salad, and shrimp appetizer as part of the meal, I was full before the main dish was even ready.Portion sizing is huge and its the only hibachi restaurant I have been to that I always have to get a box to take food home with.
Food was good, but you cant set the temperature to 68 degrees when were sitting in front of a hundred degree grill… You cant enjoy your food, while sweating. Also this place was pretty dirty, the server didnt clean our table before we sat down and you can literally wipe the grease off with your finger.
Ive never tried there hibachi before but I did try one of the bento boxes and it is well worth the money and it was delicious and I highly recommended. There sushi is very good too. Nice cozy atmosphere. My food was so good I forgot to even take a picture... I just wanted to eat it lol
Cant explain how great the food service was here at Wasabi. I’ve been to plenty of steakhouses and most have been great but not enough to write a review. If you want a delicious and flavorful meal..cooked by enthusiastic chefs that not only provide quality service but execute it extremely fast (for how busy it was)..then look no further.
Very high quality sushi. The interior is nicely designed as well. The prices might be a bit high compared to other places but in return the quality is fantastic. We really enjoyed the “chefs choice for 2”. Our server was great and kept our drinks filled. This is definitely a place that is worth trying.
Stopped in this afternoon for sushi lunch. I got the three roll lunch and the others at the table ordered various sushi rolls. Lunch was great. Good flavor. Make sure to bring a mask or they will kick you out on the curb, even if you have asthma and are exempt from the mandate.
Absolutely delicious!!! Never a bad experience. The drinks and food are on point. You get so much food you have leftovers for later the same night n lunch the next day. I highly recommend for sure!!!
Food was lackluster, but nice presentation. The bathrooms and the glance I got at the kitchen were nasty. There was a coat of dust and dirt on everything. Literally stuff hanging off the ceiling. Cant recommend a dirty place.
Had a great experience here. Our waiter was a pro, a great dude. The food was excellent. We didn’t do hibachi but had tofu and other appetizers that were grade A excellence. The place has a really nice vibe. The lighting and atmosphere is great. Super chill. makes you feel like you are some where fancy. We actually can’t wait to return.
It was no where a good experience for my family and I first of all we had to be split up in two different sections, ok that was kind understandable. Are cook was very dry the cook next to him was on point. He was put on a good show for the guests he was serving not us he came said hi told us his name and cooked and left. The food was mediocre. No were near Benihanas, the garlic butter was just that diced garlic in one pan and butter in another was expected some more flavorful. The services from the waiter was ok. I had the Hibachi triple combo with the up charge for the filet mignon with was very small it can with noodles with I didnt mind but I want to Substitute the noodles for more fried rice that was not a option have to pay for more rice SMH. I will not go back at all benihana this is where its at. Do not forget about the yumyum sauce not that good.
Food was excellent. I had chicken teriyaki and my wife had a spider roll. All excellent. My miso was warm not hot? Salad, good. Our gyoza was excellent. We went before 6pm so there was no wait. Got busy right after we got there. Our server was great, efficient, friendly, unobtrusive. My dessert was so good I had half gone before I remembered to take a picture. Well be back.
This place was surprisingly delicious. Everything from the soup to the service was expertly done and I couldnt have asked for more. I ended up doing "traditional dining", not knowing that this means you cant order hibachi. They had no problems remedying this. I enjoyed my chicken and shrimp hibachi with no obstacles. The zombie is one of the best cocktails Ive had at a restaurant. I recommend it. And the loaded lemonade(with strawberryis a good follow up. I also had leftovers. Didnt even order an appetizer so Im glad. Would revisit if Im in the area. This IS a 30 dollar meal without even trying but Im okay with that. Thanks Bangone(the woman who served mefor being awesome.
We had a great time. Our chef was amazing. The place was crowded and very busy. The tables were well placed and cozy. Our friend had a birthday with free dessert and quite a show.
