Consistently well-prepared food with generous portions in a downtown location that really slaps. Edamame beans were surprisingly delicious.

Pretty nice decor. Pleasant hostess. Ordered miso soup and it was warm, but I like it hot. Sushi did not taste fresh. Booth seats were ripped up. Cant recommend

Here for Dinner during business trip through Montgomery. Service was simply outstanding and very attentive. We had sushi roll dinner special for $22 each. Large size rolls were very good, I had Crunchy Roll and Salmon Lover. Both rolls were very tasty and well made. Everyone has different tastes in sushi but I would recommend this place to anyone. I will certainly return on my next trip.

Food was great! They were able to accommodate our large family. Small off the street and quiet. Whenever Im back in Montgomery Id visit again.

The Shrimp Curry is great. You cant beat their $8.25 lunch special. The ambiance is antique! Beautiful Alley location :)

Update: Worst sushi weve ever had. It was warm despite not ordering tempura, the fresh fish was mashed inside the roll instead of whole, the water tasted like rusty pipes, and the "Japanese spicy mayo" tasted like warm white mayo. However, the service was outstanding this time.Great food, fun location, but slow on the service. Even with a slow night, had to get the staff several times to order our food, remind them of drinks and appetizers, get all the main dishes at once, and ask for the bill. Well go again because of the great food, but hoping for better service next time.

This place was amazing. Their miso soup was delicious. After going back for more soup an hour later, my assistant told them I wasnt feeling well and also ordered and was charged for a small portion of hibachi rice. We recieved a large order of chicken hibachi rice (which was very good), and the yound lady at the front who took my order added a cup of hot water, chrysant tea, jasmine tea, and puerh tea as well as a cup of longan jujube/dates. She even went out of her way to walk to my hotel across the street after she did not see my assistant in the lobby and left a kind note saying "Google the tea. Choose what you like. Hope you feel better. ♥️ Wasabi"

For the amount of food you get with the price that is truly a DEAL. But they should have more tea options than green tea. Serving time could be better. Need more servers.

This is quaint little restaurant. They have great sushi and one of the best soft shell crab appetizers Ive ever had! The service is really nice as well. And if youre ever in the mood for sake, this is a great place to go!

Ive been to Wasabi twice now and both times the service and food has been spectacular. Make sure you bring enough money to pay for everything but order whatever your heart desires and you will not be disappointed.

Friendly service, delicious sushi and miso soup and hibachi. Wouldnt recommend a cocktail unless you order something very specific. The cuisine, atmosphere, and service made for a good experience.

I asked a server at the Aviator if this place was any good. She said it was excellent so I decided to give it a try. Not too bad, but not great either. The sushi rolls are small for the price, but pretty good. The sushi (2 piece per orderare tiny for the price. Overall, food quality is good, though. The service is akin to a Chinese buffet. I was asked what I wanted to drink even before I sat down and as soon as I sat down I was asked if I needed a couple minutes to look at the menu. So overall it’s not bad, but not good enough to come back.

I only give it 3 stars because Im very picky about sushi. Presentation and atmosphere were 5 stars!

Portion sizes were small even for a Japanese style Restaurant. Appetizer might as well arrived with the meal and any sort of breading or sauce was subpar

I went during lunch. Got the chicken and shrimp combination hibachi combo. It tastes really good but I paid $15.30 for maybe a cup of food. Kobe in Eastchase gives you 3 times more food. I will never go again to Wasabi! What a rip-off

The sushi was very good - Spicy Tuna Roll and Salmon Lovers roll. Miso soup was delicious and about as authentic Ive had since my time in Japan. The chicken yakisoba was good,. Overall, good place - I will visit again.

I visit Wasabi often to get lunch with my mom who also works downtown. The staff is always friendly. We get relatively fast service too.

Im leaving a review based on the food,location,environment and hours.First the food I ordered tasted fresh and homemade, the flavor was enough it was not overpowering but did have flavor. It wasnt too greasy,salty or artificially flavored. It tasted real and not out the box.I ordered the miso soup, grean tea, crunchy tuna roll and veggie yakisoba. It was all yummy and not too heavy. Their ginger is strong but good btw, Oh and the way they serve the miso soup is Chic, its in a chilled bowl BUT hot on the inside. Love it.The restaurant is nice and clean,smells clean as well. It has a nice vibe too it. Cool for dates or just to get a bite.Not to forget to mention, its nice they keep their restaurant open until 11pm, some people like to go eat after 8pm on weekends...plus they dont make you feel rushed to get out. Im sorry but most restaurants in Montgomery do that....its rude. They side eye you if you walk an hour before closing,lol. Like really??? But this restaurant was verynice and professional.We will be going back. Thank you

A colleague and I visited this location today for lunch. It’s in a great up and coming area, just 2 from the office. We weren’t greeted due to the busy staff. The decor was nice but the seat cushions were dirty with stains. although there were people dining in, we went against our better judgement and decided to order anyway.We ordered the chicken and shrimp combo plates to go. people... I kid you not, our food was missing half of its normal portion. When we inquired the host became agitated speaking loudly stating that if we came there regularly we’d know that their lunch portions are “kiddie “ portions. Then he yelled “ do you wanna see?!” And opened another customer’s take out box to show us their portion size.. this was simply unsanitary and unprofessional. To top it off, when we returned to office to eat.... The food was not seasoned and the rice tasted old.I’m giving 1 star for the poor customer service , menu misrepresentation ( why call it a combination plate when it lacks the proper portions?, and for the stale food. Ill never return to this establishment. Save your money

I always go for lunch and order sushi food is always great. Sometimes they decide to close early though. So call first if its a drive for you. The service isnt always the best there is always new staff.

My husband and I have been there several times. The food is always delicious. The price is good. Like always the service is fast and friendly.

I had a few decent experiences here. My visit a couple weeks ago will be my last.Waitstaff was incredibly rude, pulling away food before we were finished with it. Slammed our check down on the table in the middle of eating. Extremely dissatisfied.

Staff was amazing and the food was great, really hard to come up with anything bad. I even loved the steamed gyoza, I usually get it fried but forgot to ask for it that way and the steamed ones were amazing. We will definitely be back.

Had a great lunch with our family here while on vacation. Staff was extremely friendly and the food was delicious. My kids devoured their rolls and were enthralled with the special way they set up the chopsticks for children so they could actually use them! At 10 and 3 years old they were happy, fed, and occupied the entire time- any parent knows thats a huge win!

This is one of my favorite places to eat in montgomery. It is right in the middle of downtown montgomery near the buscuits stadium. I always order the hibatchi filet and it is the best ive had. Its always cooked to perfection, the sweet tea is great and all of thhe employees are fantastic. Ive eaten here multiple times and will continue to. I have not had one bad experience here. I love it!

Exceptional meal with an awesome variety of spices that titilated my palette. I devoured my meal without so much as speaking a word to my other meal companions. I had the hibachi lunch special combination with scallops and steak. I will be returning and hope u read this and have the same great experience I did.

I ordered food Togo and it was absolutely deliciousand still piping hot when I arrived home. The amount of food they give is enough to spread over 2-3 meals. The prices are reasonable and the service is laid back as well as attentive.

Today was my first and last time visiting this poorly ran restaurant. For quick lunch stop, my experience today lacked so much- McDonalds wouldve provided better service and seasoning. A coworker and I stopped in for a bite and this is what we summarized:ConsShort staffed- no greeting, waiters running back and forth without acknowledging customers walking inDirty seating area- the seat cushion had these funky stains with dirt in the creasesDisgusting food- no flavor, the soup tasted like hot water and oil YUCK! The rice was hard and the chicken was okProsAmbiance- awesome decorLocation- a few mins from local downtown shopsIf they retrained their staff to greet customers, provide customer service, implement proper seating/incoming traffic management, and GET A NEW CHEF.... then they would be a great choice for the downtown area. Otherwise, NOPE!

A decent place downtown to grab some Japanese food. Habachi is ok, the lunch boxes only differ by one piece of tempura. Nice atmosphere and pretty quiet.

Ordered from The waiter app The hibachi chicken dinner .. the food was Okay but soon after finishing it i felt completely sick , my stomach was in knots and i had to use the bathroom continuously HOURS after eating it .. i was in so much pain from when i finished eating at 8:40pm to 4am the next morning. Worse experience ever. Idk if the food wasn’t cooked right or what but i wont be eating from here again . Maybe it just didn’t sit right with me .

Great experience!Our host was kind, funny and easy to approach.Food didnt take too long to come out from time of order and was reasonably priced.The taste wasnt phenomenal but it was palatable and certainly better than my cooking. Also less saltier than other Hibachi dishes around that Ive tasted.The ambience was chill, nicely lit and comfortably cool.Overall had a good time hanging out with friends and certainly will be back.

Service good! I had an empire roll and it was tasty but not worth the price $10.95 it came with 5 pieces(I took the pic after I ate a piece I also had the combination tempura and it was worth the cost.

The food from the grill was really good and the sushi was also good; however the service was really lacking. The waiter we had was very distracted and cleaning other tables while taking our order and even though he did write down what we ordered but because he was so distracted he forgot something that we ordered. He did bring it very quickly after we reminded him of the forgotten order but I believe that it could have been avoided if he simply focused on our table while ordering then cleaning afterwards. Then, when the sushi was delivered, it was just placed on the table and we werent told which sushi was what (which they have done at all of the other sushi places that we have been to). Also, none of the staff actually seemed happy to be there. Overall, the food was good, the restaurant was clean, and I enjoyed my time here but I just wish the staff was a little more organized and friendly. Not horrible, but not the best.

This is actually a decent sushi place for being in the heart of Alabama. Don’t be turned away by a smell of fish as soon as you walk in the door. It can be a bit off-putting, but it just depends when you go. There are bathrooms but they’re outside the restaurant in the covered alley. Of the sushi, I recommend the salmon and tuna and the seaweed salad is quite good

Menu seems limited compared to similar sushi restaurants in local area. No high chairs, booster seats or kids menu. Tempura portions are oversized. Yaki-gyoza only comes in shrimp variety. Quality of sushi on par with the other sushi restaurants, although smaller portions.

I enjoyed the Peace & Justice concert last night, thought I was about to enjoy a nice meal as well. WROST place I’ve ever eaten. Under staffed customer was terrible, that includes the manager. Seaweed wrap was dry so was the wasabi. I wouldn’t send my enemies here.

Service is quick enough to eat here on my lunch break at noon. Their Hibachi plates are great, with plenty of food and the vegetables are well-cooked and variable. They also offer soup or salad with the plates, and "yum-yum" sauce is included, which goes well with the fried rice.

Sushi was decent given the price. However, the hibachi was average at best; the steak was rubbery, the vegetables were overcooked and the rice was bland. The general consensus at the table (6 totalwas that the food was mediocre and bland across multiple different dishes. On a positive note the waiter was great, very entertaining and quick.

I eat here about once a year while on the area for a business conference. They are kocated in the "Alley." The food selection is great and has always been good. They do serve mixed drinks and have a limited selection of beers.Service is good. I ate there on a Wednesday night with a group of ten people. The business was not crowed, in fact, there was only one other person in the establishment.I will eat there again next year and try a new selection from the menu. I had the War Eagle roll, miso soup and a ginger salad. It was delicious.

Not prepared for a rush hour. Ten minutes at the door. Orders taken out of order of who sat when. Long wait time for food. Employees appear in panic. They are clearly understaffed by at least 5 people. Salad was a small bowl of iceberg lettuce.and thats it... dressing was good though. Couple next to me ordered before me and got salad 5 minutes after. Lady next to me sat down 5 minutes after me and got food before me. 30 minutes in and no food. Has potential. Just poorly managed.

I work in the DT area so this is a VERY convenient restaurant for me, not to mention I LOVE japanese. They are the worst though, big disappointment. Not only did they score an 89 on their health score but their service is awful. If they get even the tad bit busy, they will not answer their phone to take call in/to-go orders, might I add their restaurant is relatively small so it seems hard for them to be "too busy". What type of business purposely avoid phone calls/business? I stood at the counter for 30 minutes and no-one acknowledged the fact I was there and would come to the counter to use the register and completely ignore me. When I finally spoke up and asked if I could place an order they refused insinuating they were too busy and I needed to wait longer but sat people who were walking in the door after me. If this was a one time incident I would understand but this place has been like this since they have opened, its just ridiculous.

The sushi was not good and when I tried to get something else they told me I had to pay for the sushi because I had ate one off of the plate. How am I going to know its good if I dont taste it? Nonetheless I will never visit here again.

Sushi is subpar compared to other sushi places in Montgomery,it also doesnt help that it was more expensive. I will give them that they do a very good job off trying to name the sushi look "pretty".Me and my wife came at 7pm on a Friday. They were understaffed and the quality of service was not enjoyable. Will not be coming back.

Dont get me wrong, I absolutely LOVE this restaurant and I dine here for lunch at least once a week or every other week JUST FOR THE FOOD AND NOTHING ELSE. But when I dine, I usually dine alone to enjoy my lunch hour in peace. However, Ive also dined here 3 times with other people and was treated WONDERFULLY, so Im beginning to notice a pattern and a difference in the service I receive alone vs. the service I receive while dining w/others. Being that I used to be a server, I know how most servers used to talk, think or act about serving diners who come in alone. They THINK that they dont have to frequent the table much because one person surely cant need that much, they THINK that they dont have to go out of their way to be energetic or friendly because they arent that thrilled to serve a table with only one person anyways, and they also THINK that they wont get much of a tip because its only one person dining....So, he/she usually comes to the table in a very nonchalant manner. There has also been a few times in which the servers walked back and forth past me (without acknowledging meas I stood by the host/hostess stand waiting to be seated.This is the type of vibe I get from the servers every time I dine here. LITTLE DO THEY KNOW that Im a huge fan of TIPPING (being that Ive been a server before), but I do believe in a NONCHALANT serving experience deserves a NONCHALANT tip. If I were a secret shopper, this restaurant would receive an A + for the food, but an F for service. SERVERS: No matter the # of diners, race, gender, or appearance of a guest, you should always give each person EXCEPTIONAL SERVICE....ALWAYS! ALTHOUGH THE FOOD IS AWESOME, IM ONLY GIVING 2 STARS BECAUSE SERVICE IS ALSO A VERY IMPORTANT COMPONENT TO A WONDERFUL DINING EXPERIENCE...THAT IS ALL!

Wonderful experience! Waiter was very nice and helpful. Sushi was out of this world!!! A bit pricey [paid around $70 for 2 adults + 1 child...however, I may have splurged a little...] but the food quality reflected the price. I would highly recommend this restaurant to anyone. They have a great, big menu and it will leave you wanting to visit again!! A+

This wasnt a planned stop, we tried eating at the Central. It was closed for lunch on the afternoon we were in town, that was a blessing in disguise. This place was amazing! The sushi was fresh and delicious, the hibachi steak was tender and perfectly cooked, and the service was excellent! Great atmosphere, great food and great service. We will be back.
