Very clean park, great bathrooms, not crowded. Plenty of parking. It is a little strange that theres no trash cans and the dog area for all of the dog bags though, you would see them scattered around in the sand because nobody had anywhere to put them

Very quiet and peaceful place. Spent time at the park to unwind after work and found it to be a great stop. Hiking the dunes is a great experience, but with moderately deep sand it can be strenuous so plan accordingly. Next to no waves the day I was there, just a beautiful sunset fading behind the calm waters of Lake Michigan. Definitely worth the trip!

Very fine sand on the beach, and an excellent sandbar 25 yards offshore for swimming. The water was cool but pleasant on an early September weekend with warm air temps. Separate dog beach area, and kayaks and paddle boards for rent.

We had the best time at Warren Dunes state park . Lake Michigan is absolutely beautiful! It was 81゚ on a September day. We were so lucky! The dunes are so cool I only wish we had more energy and could have kept walking to the top. They had a food truck and an ice cream truck on site.

The beach is clean and well maintained and patrolled. Bathrooms are accessible, there are food trucks, and it was not too populated for a Friday evening in August.

Excellent campground and park. Loved the huge dog beach. The trails we hiked were mainly sand, scenic, but tough. This would be 5 stars except at night you can hear road noise from I94 traffic. We camped in August and the cicadas did a decent job of drowning out the road noise.

AMAZING! The best beach for dogs I have been to! The water was so nice and clear, and there were great bathrooms there. We spent the whole day just lounging by the beach and meandering through the trails. It’s beautiful!

Love this place we paid $10 to get in if you are not from Michigan. Nice beach and swimming area along with public restrooms. Lots of trails to go hiking on if you don’t want to get in the water. They also have a food truck available.

Just a nice place to hang out. Especially Sunday through Thursday when its not so crowded. If you are new to the area, be warned. Lake Michigan water doesnt typically warm up until July or August. If you go sooner, expect some chilly water temperatures.

This place is amazing! I went camping here for two nights, and I scaled Mt. Randall. That gave me a great workout, and I was winded. Then I kept going along the dunes until I got to the beach. While the water was too cold (53°Fto swim in, it was still fun playing in the sand. Also fun fact, there are a couple of decommissioned sirens owned by the nuclear power plant just up the road

The sand dunes are beautiful but there is so much trash! My dad cleaned up a little while we walked around. There are lots of trash cans so maybe the trash blows out but it was excessive. It is $10 to enter for out of state residents. Worth the $10!

a very beautiful place🏖, the sand is very clean and its water is calm with a couple of waves but very soft, it is a place to go with the family and there are several stores nearby where you can do your shopping, it also has the possibility of uploading the dunes walking around 20 min, and the best thing is that it has changing rooms and bathrooms! if you have Michigan license plate you dont pay entrance!

They need a walking path that’s not scorching hot for the dog beach. The dogs are burning their feet walking from the parking lot to the beach. I brought socks for mine but saw a lot of others with owners who didn’t even think about it. Either misters or some sort of path that doesn’t heat up in the sun is definitely needed for them! The dog beach was nice but got very crowded on the weekend so get there kind of early to get your spot.

Dune Hike is outstanding. It is 4 miles, most of it in moderate to deep sand. So start early when it is still cool. Hike takes you to the top of Mt. Randall and then over the lakeside dunes to the lake. The hike incorporates a long walk on the beach (~1 mi?before taking you back into the dunes, finishing in a mature dune forest. The described route is counterclockwise on the loop which is recommended. Going counterclockwise allows you to do the most challenging climb first (up to the top of what I assume to be Mt. Randall, including a final summit climb of about 100-120 feet elevation in steep and deep sand...take your time!and then finish on packed sand in the woods. It is listed as "moderate" and I have no big beef with that description but there are some parts that are difficult so just prepare yourself. It is worth it because it is a beautiful hike in a beautiful park. Not trying to discourage but just keeping it real. It took us about 2 hours and 15 minutes to complete but we did frequently stop to enjoy the views and take some photos. If you were hustling you could probably get it done in an hour and a half. Not sure why you would want to hustle through that hike though because it is remarkably beautiful.

This place is awesome!! $10 a vehicle to get in. Lake Michigan water was beautiful and the sand was so soft! We covered ourselves with clay from head to toe after following the river stream through the woods. You need to get to the top of the huge sand dune at least once so you can run down!!! A blast!

Fantastic sand dunes and beaches. They have bathrooms, clean beaches, fun and huge sand dunes, and a food stand (pizza, nachos, fries, ice cream, etc). Highly recommend! Way better than the Indiana sand dunes.

The camping area and beach are well kept. The entrance is a problem, though, as there is only one entrance to the park whether you’re already registered for a pass or not. If it’s crowded, you have to wait in traffic with everyone else who has yet to register. Bad system.

This is an affordable fun adventure state park! There are plenty of dunes to explore to keep you entertained for hours up until the sand gets super hot when the sun comes out. But when that does inevitably happen, you can head down to the beach and chill for the rest of the day provided that you’re prepared with food, chairs and a football.

What a wonderful place to spend the day, all facilities to make it an easy at the beach time. Bring your umbrella or tent, bring your food and thats pretty much it, youre set. Bring a good pair of shoes to hike up the dunes, or simple walk along the shores. Get some piece in the quiet up there.

Our family has a fun hours at Warren dunes. We probably could have spent more time here, but we are meeting up with a friend later that day. First we climbed the sand dunes, which, I should let you know, the sand is super hot when the sun is shining on it all day, so don’t make the mistake we made a hike the dunes without shoes. After exploring the dunes, we went over to the beach across the parking lot. The water felt great, and the kids had fun playing in the sand. There is also a couple of ice cream trucks and a taco truck if you are looking for food. We opted for ice cream, and it was perfect for the hot day. They do have restrooms there, which are clean and a water bottle filling station if you bring your own water. I highly recommend stopping here or making a day trip out to here!

This is an awesome place to camp, hike, and enjoy the beach. The park and the dunes are spectacle of nature. There is tons of wildlife and many opportunities for children to learn. The park is kept clean and is very easy to navigate. Highly recommend for families in the Midwest looking for something to do near lake Michigan. Definitely will make this a spot that we visit annually.

We came here for the first time for a family reunion. The sites are all varied from small and private to larger and sunnier. The beach has plenty of parking, and there’s even a dog beach. There is a small store on site which has all camping needs. The surrounding town has a lot of places to eat as well. For those who make the trip to the top, the dunes offer a great view. Check with the site hosts for things to do - communal bonfires and such. The rangers do keep a close eye on those wandering the beach after it closes. The beaches were clean and sandy; there was a small ribbon of rocks/shells/algae, but nothing that was of concern. The campsites were clean, the bathrooms had plenty of stalls, running water, unisex, private shower rooms, and were stocked when were there. There was a whole crew out cleaning the bathrooms as we were leaving.

Its a nice campground. Good loops for kids to bike. Picnic table and fire pit at every site. Close to the beach, really nice camp store. Very busy, not a lot of privacy, but lots to do.Unfortunately, too many little things to give it 4 stars.Theres a LOT of poison ivy. I get that theyre not controlling it because it helps keep the dunes in place, but a 2x yearly clean out of the edges of the sites doesnt seem outrageous (theres plenty of staff, they made constant circles checking for alcohol and other rule breaking). The road noise from the highway is really obvious. It definitely overtakes the sounds of nature at night. The wood at the camp store is obscenely expensive. $6 a bundle for *maybe* 8-10 small pieces of wood.Fire pits are very tall. Good for safety, terrible for keeping warm. It was pretty cool when we were there and the pit comes up past your knees when sitting jb a camp chair.

Walking the dunes is a fun workout. The campsites are pretty spacious, not packed in like other state parks. The beach is huge and relaxing to the sound of Lake Michigan waves. I dont give this a 5 star rating because the sounds from the expressway are LOUD all night long. My bad, didnt really think about how close to I-94 the park is. So if youre choosing this park for quiet nature sounds, forget it.

Really loved this beach! Took a day trip from Chicago (took about 1.5 hour without tollsto enjoy the nice weather. Its chillier and windier on the beach than in the park, so Id recommend being prepared for that. However, the beach was clean and surprisingly long with plenty of spots to hang out. The sand was soft on the beach and dunes, and the parking lots were equally large, providing generous parking capacity. Restrooms were clean and right between the beach and the parking lot. Admission to park for me (non-residentwas $10 and theres re-entry the same day. I can see this place really being a great getaway from the city during the summer, and if it were warmer, going in the lake would be quite refreshing. Highly recommend!

This was the first State Park where there was an honor system self pay box. Please make sure you put your payment in the slotted square post behind the envelope holder, not back into the envelope holder. It was a little confusing at first but we got it figured out. The park pass is only $10 so make sure you have change, money order or a check. The receipt and window display can be detached from the envelope and kept.Visiting Warren Dunes was totally worth the perplexity.Parking was a breeze. Beach access is appx 100 yards down from the parking lot. Camping is permitted. There are plenty of new restroom facilities and a gift shop along the Dunes.Last but not least, Warren Dunes is absolutely beautiful!!

Made a plan of hiking here Saturday morning of a trip to get the day started. I was sorely mistaken on how easy I thought this hike was gong to be. We choose to do the rectangle loop beginning at Nature Trailhead and walking down to the beach and back around. The dunes were awesome to hike! We got a tad lost trying to get back to our car because there aren’t many signs near the beach area. We thought it would be a five mile trail walk and ended up taking 2 hours and burned 800 calories. Overall, 10/10. Bring water and wear sunscreen! Saw a few people other and about, but it wasn’t super packed for a nice day.

Such a great gem only 1.5 hours away from Chicago. As a resident of the Midwest, you don’t find too many hilly areas within a commutable distance. The Warren dunes is Great though! The beach is impeccable and the sand dunes are so much fun to explore! Highly recommend this area!

Let me say that the beach is the main attraction here. But also let me suggest that the campground trails provide a great alternative experience to the beach. All in all a great park to visit any time of the year.

Easy access to the beach. Never come on a holiday weekend. Otherwise it is pretty chill on a weekday or early on a weekend. Food on site in food trucks and Concession. Dog beach begins at the farthest parking lot. If you dont want to be around dogs, access beach from first three lots or in fourth lot make sure to stay to the left .Kayak and canoe rentals daily from 12 to 6 during the week and 11 to 6 weekends. Stand up paddle boards available also! They take cash or cards and are available in most lot beaches. If you cant find them, check another lot on the beach. This is probably seasonal.Great place. Awesome hiking. 2.5 miles of beach to get away from others. Awesome views of sunset and the park is open late enough to see that. Sandy beach that leads into rocks. A perfect blend for both rock hunters and sand lovers. Make sure to watch for black flies on those days with no wind. Stay close to the parking lots on those days with black flies and avoid walking down the beach on the dog park if flies are bad.

Beach was very overcrowded and people drive too fast in the parking lots. There are food trucks in all parking lots which was cool. I stayed at the campground and was able to walk to a more private beach from the campground.

Ok. Before taking the family here I checked the website to verify it was pet friendly. Get to the beach and signs all over "no pets allowed in swimming area". This was a kick in the gut as we had driven to Michigan to pick up a puppy and had her with us. Come to find out from the Warden there is a dog beach further north up the shore line from the popular swimming areas. There were no signs to indicate this. The only signs posted along the drive was indicating non-4x4 vehicles had to stay on the paved drive.Despite this, the beach was great. Really over crowed for a weekend day. Had to walk thru other peoples belongings to get to the water. Highly suggest going during the week. Daughter went on a Monday and only a few people were there. The store charges $5 to inflate any floats purchased there. Really overpriced but you pay for convenience. The sites are amazing, sand was great and the water was a beautiful blue.
