Cultural complex honoring the history & artwork of First Nations people, with exhibits & events.
Gorgeous trials, galleries, and fantastic restaurant. The free kids playground is exceptionally great for all ages of kids. But while I love the trials and galleries, they’re sadly too expensive to take the kids to more than once.
A wonderful place to discover and learn about the Indigenous First Nation peoples and also enjoy amazing beautiful scenery along the trails and the wildlife, including Bison, that reside in Wanuskewin. Most definitely recommend a visit with the fall colours.
Beautiful place to see. Lots of history about Aboriginal culture
This place is amazing. I hardly have the words to describe my experience. There is so much to see and so much absorb that a tour guide makes the experience so much better. This is a UNESCO world site. They are still expanding and developing. But if you have the chance to go you should.
I was very moved by the obvious love that went into this place. I arrived shortly after opening, to the wonderful scent of smudge. The architecture of the building really feels like a celebration of this ancient place. The stunning sculpture out front gives you a sense of the hunts that happened uncounted times here, all those years ago. I had a moving and humbling conversation with the young woman in the gift shop; the heart of our indigenous people beats strongly in this place. This really is a must-see if youre in the area.
Wanuskewin is an essential visit for the Saskatoon tourist, and a wonderful place to visit regularly for the Saskatoon resident. The conference center is gorgeous. One can learn about Indigenous culture in the exhibits and at special events. The trails are full of whimsical nooks, and offer opportunities to become familiar with Indigenous and environmental history, as well as prairie ecology. And now there are bison! Which is pretty cool, and a big win for rebuilding Indigenous sovereignty.
Brought me to tears, so much history and stories to be told
this was amazing! great exhibit and restaurant, the food was amazing! no wait to get in, little wait in the restaurant. there were tours available however i did not end up doing this. the entire thing was also wheelchair accessible. the paths were gravel, so if your chair has any troubles with that just be cautious, however you do not need to go on the trails to enjoy the experience.
very good place to learning some local history. easy trails with fun. playground doing great.
Staff were fantastic. The displays are informative, beautiful and upsetting all at once. The setting is stunning, unlike anything else in this world. As a local I love taking ANY visitors here and it gives me another opportunity to experience it.
Decent walks and great on site cafe.
Massive open space, well organized and a good museum to visit. The large park offers a number of walks, all good and doable. Staff friendly. Cafe: its a must!
The guide was fantastic! The dancer was awesome! The trails were great. The food was very good. I highly recommend visiting Wanuskewin! A very good place to be educated and informed on the history of our Indigenous people and how bison were integral to their existence.
Nice museum with both indoor and outdoor activities to see.And there is a wonderful playground for kids too.
Excellent, we learnt so much in the heritage center. Walks/hikes around land very interesting. On our visit the restaurant was closed for upgrades to kitchen equipment. We had seen so many reviews on how good it was. Will definitely return and allow more time. Wouldnt recommend going during hot summer days as there is no shade.

Its a very well done museum. We saw a live performance of a hoop dancer which was impressive and informative. The presentation are in the early afternoon, do check the website. The trails through the valley are also worth checking out. There is an amazing playground for kids as well.
The environment is absolutely stunning. Amazing view of the valley, creek, and river. Lots of life and history in the land. Really cool exhibits as well. Very important and fascinating work is being done here. If you are ever in Saskatoon, a visit to Wanuskewin is a must!
This heritage museum was fascinating. The grounds were beautiful. Our guide was very knowledgeable. The exhibits were very well done and interesting. We learned a lot about life of the Indigenous people and how they survived the harsh conditions and the weather of the Prairies. Only thing that I objected to was a $5 parking fee. That fee somehow should have been incorporated into the admission fee.
Beautiful and a special experience. You leave knowing so much about our Indigenous culture and history of the site. Well set up with stunning exhibits, walking paths and a cool play area.
Beautiful place to learn, honor & reconnect. Was so disappointed that the Cafe was closed as the menu looked phenomenal.
Excelent views and a very interesting museum, I recomend a lot to investigate some of its history before coming<3
Great place to learn about the history of the Buffalo. I was disappointed to learn there wasnt a discount for indigenous people and it was pay parking.
What a wonderful world!Had a great feeling as soon as we stepped out of the car.
Love the new playground and inside is very nice to walk through with tons to learn. The only downside is that there is very little shade around the playground so if its a hot day its not a great place to sit while the kids are playing.
A great exhibition in this beautiful building and a chance to learn about the indigenous peoples and community and how they lived. We enjoyed viewing the bison herd (24at a distance from a viewing area and discovering how the herd is growing. The trails offer some good walking so it’s best to wear shoes rather than sandals. We saw some colourful yellow and black birds (finches?and were surprised to find so few people walking about. It seemed like we had the place to ourselves. The display of Hoop dancing was terrific- the man ( cannot recall his nametold us the history and how he came to do the dancing and it’s significance. The dancing doesn’t take place everyday so we were lucky.Lunch in the cafe was ok but the service was slow.Good to know such an interesting place is close to the city of Saskatoon. There’s a fun play area for children too.
Words cannot describe the experience of visiting this heritage site. Truly educational and highly recommend this place for all, so much to see. Ive included many pictures that I took with phone, if you have a good camera bring it with you, the flora and fauna is abundant without to see.
A must see stop for all Canadians. This centre provides vital education on indigenous history that is not taught in schools. Wonderful culture interpretations and demonstrations. We walked the land, watched a hoop dancer and saw a tipi constructed. Big playground for the kids and a wonderful cafe.
Was delighted to be a returning visitor after about 20 years. The centre is still as powerfully moving and culturally significant. So glad to see it still brings visitors there. The gift store is half the a ze and lost a lot of great inventory yet offers some nice products. Had a good tatanka (bisonburger and hot homemade fries before our tour. All federal heritage sites in Sask need far better signage long before the road turn off. Very hard to find these wonderful places without some highway back tracking (due to next to zero signs until you nearly pass the entrance!)
This is a great place to spend the day. There is a lookout to see the bison grazing (short walk, slight incline). Walking trails. A playground. A restaurant. And a wonderful indoor centre with interactive displays as well as art showcases. I would return with walking shoes prepared to spend the afternoon exploring!
they say there are 18 bison in the park. I have seen a few, they are beautiful. there is an interesting gift shop inside. And on the territory there is a super playground
What a beautiful place to spend the day! A great mixture of museum-like artifacts and outdoor walking trails highlighting the flora and fauna of the area. We loved seeing the new baby bison, and learning so much about Saskatchewans history and culture.
Excellent visitor experience!(This is a winter review, but spring and summer offer a whole new range of trails, birds, flowers, plants and other things to explore.)There are lots of snowshoes, free to borrow, for a fun adventure. But the trails are well packed and easy to walk in normal footwear.Even on a windy day, the lower trails in the valley are sheltered and pleasant, and the high lookouts provide gorgeous river views. Today even offered an eagle flying by, on January 2!And I havent even begun to mention the rich First Nations history, culture, and archaeology of this place, or the amazing restaurant or gift shop.
Always a beautiful, peaceful place to visit.
Nice biking trails. Saw a herd of buffalo here. This park wasnt open when I got there at 7AM. Am I supposed to jump over the fence to get in?
Finally went to this place. Its a great place just outside Saskatoon to spend few hours. You can experience the history with the museum, movie inside. They have few hikes (not very longthat can be completed within 2 hours. We saw few Deers as well. It has separate play area for kids and a restaurant to enjoy some food.I believe there should be a separate or less expensive pass for someone who just wants to hike and not access the inside area. I felt the fees to be expensive based on what we have to experience !Or atleast, parking should have been free if you are charging the entrance fees.Good place to go with your kids and family !!
Great place for some history and walks with great views.
Visited the museum and park back in September 2021. Its amazing the amount of effort and funding thats been given to keep this place up and running. Theres so much more that needs to be done to preserve such a historic area but one needs to acknowledge whats already in place. Ask the ticket office about the yours and shows. You can of course walk on your own but being part of a your allows the people who are working there -researchers mainly- to share their own experience and insights of the place. I hope I can visit again someday and by then I hope Ill be able to learn more about the rich history thats been long hidden.
This place has great walking trails with information and site about indigenous people. There is paid parking and an area where you get a chance to see the bison grazing from afar. Great place to take the kids to learn about indigenous history. There is a small museum with paintings and artifacts and also a gift shop. Overall and excellent place to take walks with family.
Beautiful day to honor National Truth and Reconciliation Day by walking the trails at Wanuskewin Heritage Park. Thank you.
Nice place to visit with museum, trails and playground. Very beautiful in the fall.
Nice trails to walk. The valley is nearby Saskatchewan River. It is very unique in flat area of Saskatoon. Unfortunately, I didnt see the bison in my trip, so I dont rate the 5 star for this measum. You may update the reviews for this site.
Was a very cool tour. Live bison and just a beautiful walk. Good time of year to go. Cool kids playing apparatus. Have to pay to park though.
It’s tricky to review this place. On some levels it’s 5 stars. On others, less so. As a place to wander in gentle prairie hikes it’s an oasis. Sitting a few meters from bison and watching them graze was a delightful experience. The art gallery though lacks enough information to appreciate the interesting art in display. Before visiting I hadn’t realized there was a performance, so I missed what looked like an interesting and informative presentation. Before going, I’d suggest to check the schedule and plan your trip accordingly. The gift shop in downtown Saskatoon was more complete than at this site, and a visit there should definitely be part of your experience of this venue.
Had a great time here, arrived with a group of 6 visiting from Ontario. Started off with 2pm dance, Ive forgotten the dancers name but he was amazing and great with kids. The tour with Bailey was excellent, shes very knowledgeable and engaging, the museum is fascinating and beautiful inside. The restaurant at Wanuskewin was sooo goood, I ordered the Falafel burger with fries. Big portions and decently priced Im already planning my next trip back.
This was a nice experience. The daily programming (walks and danceadded to the experience. It was fairly small though. There is a very nice children’s park outside as well and plenty of trails when the weather is good.
Amazing beautiful place. I was here 4 years ago and enjoyed the hike and the peacefulness. This year there are so many beautiful renovations to the buildings and the addition of a Buffalo herd. A must see in my eyes
Lovely area! We saw some breathtaking views on the hiking trail... my group came around opening time when the sun had just come up. There were dozens of mule deer, beautiful hoarfrost on all the trees and bush, and fog all along the river. We spent most time outdoors but the museum part is well done and neat to explore as well.
Located just a few minutes north of Saskatoon is the perfect place to learn about the people who lived (and continue to livein balance with what the land had to offer. Literally meaning "to be at peace with oneself", Wanuskewin is home to archeological discoveries from more than 6000 years ago. The museum is beautiful and very interactive. And if youre more of an outdoors individual, then you can go hiking around the valley and explore (with snow shoes for rent included with the admission price).
Great and extremely important initiative that falls short by telling very little, so sorry to say. The exhibition about history and artifacts was minimal, a few show cases. The film was even thinner and missed the opportunity to tell and show so much more substance, not merely the concept of holistic worldview of the First Nations. Please fill this amazing building with much more “body”.
