Meridian Building, 33 Customhouse Quay, Wellington, 6011, New Zealand, Wellington
Asian-inspired & Japanese chain restaurant where dishes are whisked to long communal tables.
Been here a few times and food and service is always good. This time squid, prawns, baked fish and chicken washed down with warm saki. Highly recommended
Great location with views over the harbour. Food was what I expected. Maybe priced a little bit more but I put that down to location. Zane served us and I gotta say best service in a long time. Friendly, prompt and he just seemed to love his job. Will come again. Zane you the man dude!
Not bad....little bit disappointed with the food. Chicken overcooked, but fantastic favours in the soup itself. Beers was tasty...nothing on draught tho. Worth checking out. The view of the harbour is outstanding. The photo posted is not quite the same view...but gives you a flavour of what you may be able to see...particularly if you sit near the windows during sunset. Hope that helps.
Their juices are amazing!! Depends what you order on the menu, I have had a range of things, some better than others. Service is good and helpful and friendly and it is very efficient. Decent prices for what it is.
In every city where wagamama has to be visited I ask for the same request .. My restaurant number one
This is an Asian fusion restaurant and not Japanese as stated. Ive been multiple times and the consistency of the food was incredibly disappointing, for how expensive the meals are.The noodles were under cooked, with a very mediocre tasting broth. It has a good view, you will always get a seat, but the quality of the food is below standard for how much they charge.
Always a good menu and great fast service. Bit pricey but thats the Wellington waterfront for you. Ordered the sake. Not the right temperature or volume promised. Busy for a Tuesday too.
Food was ok, not brilliant, but ok. Entrees are poor value for money, small portions for the price. Mains come in large bowls but the portions are modest. It was a busy time, but service could still have been better. Staff were on auto pilot but inefficiently so. Requests had to be made more than once, while the standard risk-management question "is everything ok" was asked many times when we didnt need them. Front of house person have far too much attention to a group she liked, before she finally acknowledged us, who had walked in and were waiting to be "checked in" at the desk for about 5 mins. Structured, systemized Japanese themed food with a modern ambience, like an upmarket McDonalds.
Great service. Place was PACKED but the staff were still swift and met our every need.Food was served quickly and was delicious.Portion size was perfect, enough to fill you up but not enough to make you need to double your run time the next day.
Took a chance on a busy school holiday Sunday night without a booking, they managed to seat us (4after a few minute wait. An extremely very popular place, large communal tables & bench seating. A loud space, but ok. Not somewhere for an intimate romantic date, but great for large parties, though book ahead to ensure you get a table. Food is Japanese and other Asian styles fused together, rather delicious. Vegan friendly with many options. The food comes out as prepared to ensure its hot and the flavours & spices are optimum at serving. We enjoyed the Bang Bang Cauliflower, it wasnt deepfried (like some places serve), sweet & spicy. I had a Yasai Itame, a noodle, tofu & vegetable green lemongrass coconut curry. It was labelled as spicy, but I got no spice, that was ok though, I added the sauce from the Bang Bang Cauli to it, cause thats what I do! My family ate meat dishes, they looked good. A great place to keep vegans & meat eaters happy. Staff were very friendly and helpful for us first time Wagamama diners. Highly recommend. Priced affordably and large portions. Our family of four, with 2 teens, 3 entrees, 3 mains, 4 drinks & a side of rice ~NZD117.00.
The setting is excellent and service is good. Perhaps this rating was influenced by the fact that I am not the biggest fan of Asian cuisine. Anyways, while presentation was amazing portion sizes were fairly small. Not one of the cheapest restaurants either.
The food was great. Shame that the first time we went it took nearly 20mins for us and others to be shown to a table when it was half empty.. Food was good and so were cocktails.. Came back next day for more cocktails only to be told they didnt have ingredients :( was a shame.. The lady was very apologetic.
Great fusion food, friendly and helpful staff. Wagamama is vegan friendly and the staff can recommend a selection of really delicious vegan dishes well. The place is great to catch up with friends, share a couple of starters and enjoy the harbour view. The huge windows are made for creating some superb memories. I also enjoyed the desserts. The banana katsu is to die for.
Food was tasty. However the restaurant was so unorganized. First we had to wait about 15 minutes for a table, when there were plenty of empty tables available, and which remained empty during our meal. Then we were told of around 10 items on the menu which were not available. After waiting about 20 minutes for our food, some of our party had to wait an extra 15 minutes for theirs, after other people had already finished.
Very excellent dining experience with my two kiddies. The young FOH crew were super nice and could not have been more welcoming. The food was dope, the kids cleaned their plates and mama had a delicious elderflower cocktail. 10 out of 10, will be back. Kia ora!
Had booked, and even though half-full had to wait 10 minutes to be seated. Japanese beer, sake, and orange juice all sold out!! Not a single Japanese staff member, food not authentic, bland, and overpriced for what it was. Trying to attract a waiter was like pulling teeth, hence they missed out on selling many more beers. I think the kitchen was more focused on pumping out Uber Eats than they were the customers. Will not be returning, despite idyllic location.
Couldnt book, got told to turn up then had a longish wait for a table. Food good though and service reasonable.
Absolutely delicious food and fantastic staff. Can get very busy on a Friday or Saturday night but food always comes out piping hot! Decent sized portions as well as a beautiful view of the waterfront and hills. A great place for a catch up, date or family dinner :)
Carreraisu was nice (strong smokey flavor). Chicken/Prawn Yaki Udon didnt have a lot of that in it. Hated the upselling the servers tried to do multiple times. Also they want you to spend 5$ for water, the tap water is just fine. Will not go back, theres so many better places to eat.
Good food but not as good as the price would like to suggest. Average to good service, efficient but not friendly. We went at the tail end of a busy lunch so they were fully staffed. Been there before and they were a bit lite on staff. Its a solid 3 star, you expect service and food quality at this level from Wagamama. You probably wont be dissapointed, but not wowed like you might be from a smaller boutique.
Food was fantastic, however it took ages to get served. Once the order was placed, the food came reasonably quick. Would not recommend there cocktails as they were not mixed at all and didnt taste good.
I loved this place, Ive seen bad reviews but my experience was just perfect.
Nice location but the food is a little bland (flavours absent/removedand the service is very disorganised. The management of this franchise need to support their staff properly and resolve the problems they clearly have with delivering good service. We arrived early for dinner so there were around 5 staff available to help us. We were initially seated in the empty restaurant but then asked to move to another location for an unknown reason. Our waiter was very nice and dealt with our large table (including childrenreally well. Unfortunately, once orders were taken we had to wait quite a long time, even for drinks. I could see our wine sitting in the service area for around 10 minutes, meanwhile a huddle of 3 staff stood chatting to each other at the front of the restaurant.I asked if we could hang our coats up somewhere out of the way but the staff member said although they could take them, the coats would be put behind the counter but on the floor! On the way to the toilets, I saw large boxes of supplies just left in the corridor. The windows facing the sea view were dirty on the inside and had not been cleaned. Our food slowly began to appear but 4 out of 5 adults had finished their food by the time the 5th "main" dish appeared. The kids has dessert but again 3 ice creams arrived leaving one poor soul with nothing for 5-10 minutes which isnt great for children. We paid for our meal but there was an extra drink outstanding. I went to pay for this but despite our waiters guidance, the shift manager tried to charge us twice for some of the food.
Great place for dinner but I think the staff were too busy and kept on forgetting what we ordered on the table. I took my 5 year old daughter she was never given kids menu to choose from. We booked our table in 2 weeks in advance but when we arrived on that day half of our table was given to someone else so we had to wait and squash on a table to fit and sit around.
We came in around 8pm and they were closing 9:30 this night, they said they weren’t taking orders because they closed the kitchen but let us in if we ordered quick. The waiter was lovely but the food was terrible. It was so rushed and the noodles weren’t cooked properly. Our meals had no flavour to them. They all just wanted to close as fast as they could. I’m pretty sure they are supposed to be cooking Japanese food? Unsure though
Tasty, fast Japanese meals served in a warm modern setting. Restaurant has concrete floors and long wooden tables, with open kitchen. Classy cafeteria vibes.Staff are attentive and wait times are reasonable despite being always busy.Food quality is consistently high. Maybe a tad on the expensive side, for what you are getting, but you won’t feel disappointed. Extremely good value if you have a voucher. Good drinks range.Excellent for groups. Beautiful waterfront location.
I mean its okay I guess? A little overpriced for the taste you get from the dishes but its a nice vibe and the restaurant looks awesome. Good service and the food came pretty fast. Was okay, nothing that really amazed me for the asking price
Its fine for as a decent place to feed a group. Good for kids, theres always something on the menu that theyll eat. Havent had anything thats wowed me at all, but it is always acceptable. Picnic table style long bench seating.
Incredibly well located with great view from the harbor. Kids menu well served and presentable. My donburi was tasteful but need more attention on the visual presentation. This helps the customer to open the apetite. Almost got 5 stars.
Food was good. Ambience was great. The order came quickly
Not mind blowing, but good assortment of Asian cuisines done in Kiwi way against a delicious waterfront view. Add the tea stained egg to whatever you get...
We are regulars at wagamama in Auckland and decided to try Wellington. Ordered the same dish and the portion size in welly was much smaller. Firecracker chicken. Good service. Restaurant was really busy to. That maybe the reason. Pictures from both restaurants attached. Would still go back.
Amazing view of the harbor. We were seated outside at around 5:30pm so maybe 4 other tables seated. Heaps of staff on service. After taking orders they failed to bring us cutlery and top up water, they were friendly just not polished. Windows disgustingly dirty clearly from more than one night. Larger portions than usual!
Ordered food to go from here, the staff were really friendly and quick to help/serve. The place is incredibly clean, it looks brand new and there was a nice place to sit and wait for my food. The menu isnt cheap but not overly expensive, you get very large portions and the food taste incredible, so I think you get what you pay for. The food presentation is still very food - even for take-out. I definitely recommend.
Our meal was good being Katsu curry chicken, however the kids soup was watery and tasteless, like flavoured water.Service and backdrop were good.
Food was tasty and filling. The food is traditional ramen-type restaurant food and as a bonus the menu has nice little explanations what the dish is like. The place looks very clean and orderly. You can see the cooks in action. The service was quick, welcoming and friendly. The location is by the beautiful Wellington quayside and the place has a good view to the ocean.I definitely recommend Wagamama.
A very good restaurant at Wellington facing Wellington water front. Great food and good ambiance. Service quality is very good. The food is tasty and they serve right quantity. The pricing is moderate to high but worth it. The restaurant is generally crowded. It is better to reserve before visiting. Good for groups.High chairs available and the rest rooms are maintained well.
Very friendly staff and great food, highly recommend.
The good - great location, great view. The bad - service was awful. I was seated and told the waitress would be with me in about 5 mins. Took 35 minutes and a flag down to get waitress attention. People who came in after me ate and left before me. Seems really poorly run. Food was fine, albeit a bit oily. I certainly wont be back.
First time diner at Wagamama - was given a menu by the friendly waitress and I noticed that, although all of the dishes looked divine, there was nothing listed as Gluten Free. I asked the waitress if they catered to those on gluten free diets and much to my surprise she pulled out a dedicated gluten free menu! I couldnt believe it - a decent amount of dishes to choose from too, rather than the usual limited options you tend to get at restaurants. After much deliberation I decided on Edamame as a starter, followed by the Chicken Teriyaki Raisu as a main. The portions were HUGE (another plus!). Great dining atmosphere, friendly service (shout out to the awesome Scottish waitressand a menu that caters to those on special diets. The best dining experience Ive had in a long while...thank you so much Wagamama.
.(07/2017)Upscale Japanese food restaurant beautifully located next to the shore providing awesome sea view.Lovely ambiance and comfy music plays in the background on low volume.Helpful and friendly staff, responsive and amicable service.Visited for a quick lunch and didnt realize how much time we spent once we started enjoying the food. And in case you lose the track of the food you are enjoying, it may turn into an expensive affair!Good for groups, kids and celebrations.#thewagamamaway
This is a good Wagamamas and I have visited here a few times. The restaurant is normally busy and the servers are very friendly. The food is mostly good but are sometimes a little inconsistent. In my last visit, the my girlfriend and I noticed my portion was smaller than normal> I also thought the vegetables didnt taste as fresh as previous times - no snap to them. Perhaps this was a one-off, I generally like this place.
Although service was a bit slow at times (understandable due to how busy it was), the food I had here was really enjoyable! Their ramen bowls are massive, and theres a wide selection of drinks, both alcoholic and nonalcoholic, to start off or wash down the meal. Ill definitely be back here!
I recently dined here with my finance and we really enjoyed our meal. We had three entree dishes to share and a main each. The food was bought out really quick and hot and had a heap of flavour. It was really busy though which meant the service was a bit slow at times. Overall though we will definitely be back.
Restaurant was nice, staff were efficient but friendly. Food was average. Not bad, but average. Id probably go back and try something different in case my Pad Thai was just an outlier. The steamed pork and apple bun was excellent.
Great Location, Nice food and fast service
This gem is always bustling and for good reason, fast service and tasty food. The dumplings were plump and juicy with a nice crispy base. Ramen was excellent, pork still juicy and a nicely soft boiled egg. Reasonably priced and decent sized meals. Recommend if looking for a quick, tasty meal in a buzzing atmosphere.
Really good food. A little expensive but totally worth it. Most dishes can feed 2 peckish people or 1 really really hungry one
The good - nice spot along the waterfront - tasty food, interesting selection of Japanese cuisine. The meh - tables for two were rather small, and the place is noisy so not great for a quiet conversation. Prices are upper-mid range.Overall - the staff were friendly and service was attentive and I cant fault the food, so Id go back again.
Outstanding.Generous portions of delicious food. The staff were really welcoming. I thoroughly recommend the Firecracker Chicken. When a staff member under training made an error with our meal, they apologised put it right immediately, and didnt charge us. Their customer service was excellent and will definitely see us come back.
