WA-SHU 和酒 - Cocktail bar in Taipei, Taiwan
WA-SHU 和酒 in Taipei
Description
Privilege
Taiwan’s best cocktail bar. Must visit.
The cocktail here is so delicate and delicious. Minimal design with lots well balance flavors. I love they don’t do crazy decoration or fancy presentation. Its slick and pure. Small portion, almost feel like drinking really good high mountain tea. Love their mocktails too, it made me feel like I am drinking good cocktails. Awesome place.
MoreThe place is a tiny hall, with a row of tables along the bar (every table is next to the actual bar). You can hear everyones conversation, the table in front, the one behind, EVERYTHING. I could feel people were trying to keep the conversation to themselves but it was impossible in this place. The most annoying part, they are turning on and off a blender like for every drink they make, and it was way too loud. So you went from hearing everyones business, to only hearing the annoying blender, so you had to wait for the blender to be turned off, so you could start talking again, VERY AWKWARD. Needless to say, my friend and I left after 15 mins of trying to talk. The drinks are good but the atmosphere was is very off-putting.

MoreBest drinks you can get!!! Open for take-outs during Covid-19 too
One of the nicest sake bar to try out in Taipei. Make sure you get your reservation.Staffs are so friendly and they help you to understand the types of Sake and they make cocktail out of it. Also, you can find some Japanese liquor and whiskeys.Owner is Japanese and Some of the staffs can speak in English.. if you haven’t tasted some good Japanese sake/liquor in Taipei, just check out this place😊
MoreIf you want to try cocktail with special flavor, wa-shu is one of the best place in Taipei. They have tea flavor, dessert flavor even edamame flavor well mixed with different kinds of alcohol. Bartender Sakai san is super nice and friendly!
MoreGreat cocktails with unique flavors that you couldn’t even think of. Definitely worth a try!
Moredrinks are relatively small but pretty good, staffs are nice.
What a great experience!Great tasty cocktails, and splendid service. It was packed on Thu night. Its the culture that matters.
MoreCoolest bar in Taipei. They make drinks using flavors you prefer. Very unique and special. One-of-a-kind experience. Every time I go it’s a memorable night and really enjoyable.
MoreThere is no soul in the cocktail. If I want a stander one, I’ll go 7-11 or Family Mart.A good experience for a good cocktail starts from client walked in, communicate with bartender, express client’s feeling and the amazing bartender can CREATE a suitable drink for that guest. Not a simple answer: because our boss want to keep the stander. Then u are NOT bartender, u are just a machine.I had 4 cocktails, each glass are good, but no soul. Like amazing Taiwanese instant noodles.Good, no mistakes, no soul.
MoreFriendly and attentive service. Tried out two of their special flavor cocktails: Taiwan basil and lemongrass. both had a soju base and were refreshing and true to their flavor. Then tried two classic cocktails: old fashioned and sake Martini. They were made very well and tasted smooth. Mosquitoes inside.
MoreReally chill and high class place.Food is limited but goodCocktail list is super creative and good. The bar tender tell us there are also hidden menuNT 350 for a cocktail.Gotta come here again
MoreI thought this was one of the more unique experiences that I have ever had.The bar has an extensive menu with drinks based around flavors. Instead of sour or sweet you’ll find flavors like Thai Basil or Taiwanese Pear. This would be one of those places that I would have to come back several times to taste all the drinks that I thought I would enjoy. The bar itself is tiny and dark — maybe 15 spots along the bar. The night we were there had two bartenders behind the bar who were both fantastic. They were happy to explain the bars philosophy and even give us a preview of a drink that they had been working on.I think this bar is great for a couple or small group — the space is quiet and easy to have a conversation in. I think the menu appeals to both the cocktail fanatic (with a long list of interesting ingredientsand the cocktail amateur (who might want to pick a drink based solely on a single taste).I will definitely revisit next time in Taipei, especially to see what new ingredients they have incorporated on the menu. Expect a friendly staff that speaks English well.
MoreI’m coming back here to elaborate more after I revisited the place again this week, after my first visit last year.To me, their signature cocktails list is sophisticated by only showing the “ flavours” w/o details. You won’t have any ideas what’s that 100 cocktails about. Therefore, you need waiters/bartenders to provide you more insights or give some suggestion which cocktails suit you. My suggestion is, give it a go, it will surprise you.If you were subtle like me, a whisky lover, get it started with a highball with Yamasaki/Hibiki/Hakushu. The homemade bubbles won’t let you down. And then, it’s time for a whisky, Taiwanese is all on shelf, small Japanese collections. Last but not least, some interesting old bottles behind the scene. (Talk to the bartenders 😉)Unlike a modern cocktail bars, Wa Shu does not serve fancy cocktails. But I’m sure you can have a taste of their uniqueness.
MoreQuaint bar. Frequented by locals who know their cocktails. Perfectly concocted drinks. Great for 2 to 4, might be a challenge for bigger groups. Barman was great help. Look at the first 2 pages of the menu, pick a flavour you like and let the barman surprise you. Not as expensive as the other cocktail bars around the area. Worth the visit.
MoreA Japanese themed bar but set for faster service. There were like 4 bartenders/servers behind the bar where in Japan only 2 would be behind it.Their menu offers global classics, Japanese classics and flavor focused drinks like fruits and soy milk.Service and drinks here were great. One of the bartenders was great at reading people. After seeing I enjoyed my Bamboo, the bartender asked if I wanted some rare whisky. He proceeded to bring out this single malt that really doesnt get bottled often.Theyre a bit unsure of funky rum like most of Taipei as Ive come to learn. They were hesitant to make the Helios Daiquiri but they made it damn well.
MoreThis place used to be tops, unfortunately now it basically sucks. Really, I used to love this place, been many times, but the quality of the the drinks, from the taste to the presentation, it’s gone from a 9 to a 3. Honestly, I don’t know why serious drinkers would go to this place, the Japanese owner is often absentee and even if there doesn’t monitor staff tightly, and local staff seems to change every month or so. Give this place a pass.
MoreNeat bar with great ambiance and staff. Will be back for the peanut whiskey!
Very friendly bar tender who also recommended other bars for me to visit during this trip
MoreThey got the best infuse whisky and sake in town! I was amazed all the different flavors of whisky and sake they got! Nice vibe, great drinks! The Japanese bartender is very friendly and professional, if you are not sure about what to drink, he will give suggestions according to personal preferences
MoreEnjoyed the best cocktails Ive had since being at Gen Yamamoto in Tokyo. This bar captures intense flavours of single ingredients into delicious cocktails. We started with guava and yuzu style cocktails, both of which were balanced and refreshing. Following this, we trusted the bar tender whom recommended the peanut butter whiskey and edamame cocktail. The peanut butter whiskey was INCREDIBLE. I was nervous at first but the flavour was perfect and creativity on point. Following that, the edamame cocktail was also amazing. It was delicate and creamy, really highlighting the flavour of edamame but in a pleasant cocktail.A combination of great service and beautiful cocktails will have me recommending this place to anyone who visits Taipei.
MoreFantastic experience, staff extremely nice and professional as they are really familiar with their recipes. The decorations of the bar is Japanese authentic, illuminating are a little bit dim yet really flavoring the atmosphere, volume of music is adequate and not too big.
MoreMost excellent bar with very interesting cocktails (theyd serve drinks neat too). Peanut butter whiskey (shows up as Peanut on their menuis OUT. OF. THIS. WORLD. Mandarin whiskeys my husbands choice. Some others are a tad sweet for us, but we are habitual whiskey drinkers, so theyd probably be lovely for anyone who just wants to hang out at the bar and ogle at some cute bartenders. (We had mint, plum, lemongrass and whiskey neat too). 10/10 making a return trip at earliest opportunity
MoreThis was my first mixology cocktail place Ive ever been to. Its typically really crowded inside and hard to get a seat. 3 out of the 5 times Ive been there, I either got lucky (since someone leftor went to a bar near by and returned back. The drinks are so unique and they taste really good! My favorite is the edamame cocktail and the peanut butter whiskey. The edamame cocktail has the best balance between sweet and salty. The peanut butter whiskey was perfect because there was a finish taste of peanut butter in my mouth every time.Ive also tried the banana whiskey which was great and the yuzu drink. Every drink is actually pretty good and all the bartenders are really nice. The price is reasonable since mixing drinks take a while but after the second or third drink, it gets quite expensive.I would definitely recommend it for the unique experience!
MoreVery small bar. Recommended to be here before 9. They have a lot of different infusions of flavors and alcohol.
MoreAwesome place to try different types of cocktail. This place was highly reccomended by another bar in the taiwan and a must go to for drinks and a little bit of adventure. I would highly reccomend the banana whiskey and edamame cocktail.Atmosphere was fitting, and the bartenders were most helpful for first time patrons.
MoreThis is the special menu for the night! I order the first one. It was fresh and well balanced. I have been in this place three times, every time I have great experience. Good for small group or couple dating. Interesting selection and self made whisky ;oh, I love chocolate flavor, good for the last drink( very rich flavor). And all I need to do is describe your preference and they will recommend a good one for u!
MoreNice little place to try some whisky and sake when its quiet on a weekday night. But orders get missed and mixed up when the place is busy, which is a bit frustrating. Cocktails are OK. Staff are helpful with recommendations...so long as you can understand the language AND the accent!
MoreIntimate environment with Japanese barsmanship in the heart of Taipei that brings you cocktails which will enlighten your testbuds. A Candy shop for liver-loving adults
MoreA nice little place with very many variation to their list of alcohol. They infuse and also distill alcohol further to get a purer result. While the menu is both in Japanese and Chinese, their bartenders are more than happy to help you with your drink choice. While this bar is small with free sittings, it still offers a good ambience.
MoreAwesome drinks at reasonable prices. They infuse liquor with a wide range of fruits, spices, vegetables, etc. One of the staff members Mike was awesome. Extremely friendly and gave us tips on places to visit in Taipei. Visited Wa Shu twice on our 3 day Taiwan trip. Would definitely visit again!
MoreIn such a small and packed bar the staff manage to deliver the best service. Very special diffuesss whiskey, tons of great quality choices of cocktail and liquor. Awesome place to take foreigner friends or simply friends who enjoy some drink and chill
MoreIm obsessed with this bar - its a pretty small bar that serves craft cocktails featured infused shochu and whiskey from Japan. There are a variety of flavors that range from standard to surprising - grapefruit, peaty cedar, to peanut butter whiskey. The head bartender says they infuse each whiskey with a variety of techniques - and a lot of them take like two weeks to creat just one bottle. When you select the flavor of infusion that you like, they make a custom cocktail to highlight that particular flavor - I got a yuzu ginger shochu, and they added egg white powder and whipped it up to create this spicy, citrusy foam. My boyfriend got the honey whiskey and they smoked it with Sakura wood chips. I think some infusions are more successful than others, but overall, phenomenal concept and great execution. The service is also really great - the bartenders are all really friendly and very polite. They checked in on us a number of times. We didnt get a chance to try the food, but there are some bar snacks available. Also, I really liked that it wasnt too crowded - there seemed to be a healthy mix of Taiwanese and foreigners, and seemingly a lot of people on dates. 10/10 would recommend!
MoreAwesome pub with a great selection of drinks ranging from beer, sake, shochu, cocktail to whiskey, gin, infused liquor. Must try the peanut butter whiskey!
MoreWe found this place when looking for another bar that was closed. Good job, because it was much nicer. Very cool, quiet and sophisticated. We were the first ones in when the place was empty at 8:15. We didnt know what to expect but the cocktails were simple and tasty. They only use Japanese alcohol, shochu in the classic cocktails and you choose your main flavour. I asked for something a little sweet and sour and the server suggested kiwi which was very nice and perfectly balanced. I rate 5* because the place feels very exclusive. We did overhear the manager giving our server some trouble for not giving us enough information or something, but we thought he was fine (maybe he was in training to meet high standards). A great spot.
MoreFantastic cocktails and very knowledgable staff, but we left feeling unwelcome. Out of respect for the bar, we asked the waitress if we could celebrate a friends birthday with a small cake (as in 4 incheswe had brought. She said it was fine as long as we didnt make a noise, but moments after we lit the candles the owner came over and told us we couldnt eat the cake. This incident really soured the evening. I can understand that they dont want outside food, but a little understanding into the customer would go a long way.
MoreThey serve mostly Japanese whiskey and have awesome cocktails with Japanese base alcohol.
MoreThey got really cool cocktails that you get to choose one flavor (wasabi, macha, tofu... just to name a fewand theyll get you one with that flavor cocktail and it tastes good. I have mine with a kind of indigenous pepper and its nice. Recommend to people who want to try different cocktails. Come earlier though as its a small bar and a lot of people get into lines after 9.
MoreAlways nice to come for a drink here, they also organise some unique events for whisky and bartending. Tomo san is the best.
MoreGreat ambience, clean, and super friendly service. All the liquor comes from Japan 🇯🇵. We tried some cocktails, whiskeys and beer, and everything was GREAT! We also had smoked cheddar and veggies with smoked mayo. Delicious!
MoreGreat staff and service, quality cocktails by the space is a bit dull. I get that the focus is on the drinks but it wouldnt hurt to have a slightly better decor. Will definitely go back though as the crowd and the drinks are worth it
MoreA very different bar, with an eclectic approach for cocktails and mix drinks. They have specialty whisky where they infuse fruit flavors. Cocktails are unique. They have rare whiskies but are expensive. Atmosphere is nice, owned by Japanese and service is generally good, but they are busy and at times orders take a while.
MoreSmall and cosy, very clean. Great atmosphere for small groups. Friendly staff and creative drinks. Most staff speak English and Mandarin. If youre wanting to meet non-locals, this is the place to be. Very good environment to meet new people.Drinks are NTD$300 for Soju and NTD$350 for Whisky blends.Try their pizzas, they are awesome. I tried getting the bacon one (which is meant to be awesome), but it was already sold out.Edit: Location. The doorway is super small and easy to miss. Be careful when exiting at night, the glass door is not easily visible.
MoreVery innovative bar, cocktails made with a variety of interesting taste...I find the house made distillation a bit harsh when used neat, I would prefer them used in smaller quantity as flavouring mixed with a commercial spirit..ps gd bar snacks, try for yourself
MoreAmazing cocktails with a variety of interesting flavor Whiskey and Shoju. Had a really good time with friends on first visit. Bartenders and waiters are pretty nice.
MoreCozy place to chill and offering good drinks. A bit pricy but they have many kinds of sake, sochu, whisky, and cocktails.
MoreI cant say enough about this place. The bartenders are masters and really know their art. They distill and infuse in house. They blend amazing drinks that capture each flavor profile subtly but accurately. Its so good. We were served by Nori and he was a great person to talk to and he made great suggestions.
