Thank you soo much to Keith for an amazing tour of the HMAS Ovens. So much very interesting information from someone that served on her. We could have spent a lot more time listening to the stories and information you gave us. The museum is great as well, including finding a relative of mine on the Migrant Wall, and a message linked to my Great Aunts entry from my Grandmothers childhood best friend, my Gran was with us from the UK on our visit.

So much to see, some truely amazing feats of seamanship on show, a personal favourite would have to be some of the suspended displays showing the shear scale of the ocean in full force!

This museum has great maritime artifacts and exhibits, many interactive and with lots of maritime history on display. We especially enjoyed the Americas Cup winner Australia ll and the O Class submarine HMAS Ovens displays. The cafe and gift shop are also worth a visit. Its well laid out and also well located near Freo railway station and overlooking the Fremantle port and with plenty of nearby parking. Lots for kids to enjoy and do. The staff is very friendly and helpful. Highly recommended. Definitely worth visiting.

Spent a couple of hours scouring the ground level alone, great expense of knowledge spanning fishing, surfing, sailing, and all things to do with the sea, or not. Theres also a mask exhibition going on now.Food at the cafe can be better, the fish and chips seems overcooked and chips slightly burnt. Avocado chicken wrap was better. Decent coffee and service was prompt. Will be looking to explore more of the museum next time!

My daughter & I with a toddler in tow had a lovely morning at the MaritimeMuseum. The displays are really well curated & Australia 2 is so cleverly positioned to be viewed from all 3 levels. The attendant who chatted to me about Australia 2 was very interesting & had a wealth of knowledge. Well worth a visit.

Nice to visit during school holidays. Paying for membership is worth it as its the same fee as a single entry fee. Staff are friendly, lots to see, if you have to time consider going into the submarine.

Good but to do all the things just adds more and more cost, $15 more for the sub, $15 more for the 360 degree movie, I didn’t see a package ticket with a deal?

Amazing museum with lots of displays to see and read from. Theres boats, a real body of a Megamouth shark, submarine and plenty more others.Very interesting and informative. This is one place where you should certainly take your own time & pace to fully read and enjoy its history here.Theres also guided tours here especially for the submarine for those who are eager and curious to explore inside a submarine.Besides that, they have a mini cinema here in a dome shape room that plays documentary films.Over all fascinating.

Impressed by megamouth shark and sea cucumber’s aphrodisiac effects for men (seriously?). Sophisticated boats, ships, submarine models, fragile pieces. At least 2 hours allowed.

Its a good place to pass a couple of hours in Freemantle. They offer a tour of an Oberon-class submarine and there are temporary exhibits too. Two hours is sufficient time. Make sure you bring an interest in WA maritime history. It covers Indigenous and colonial periods, as well as modern history around immigration and a couple of big competitive events. There is also a section on Defence - submarines and special forces.

The Maritime Museum is about a ten minute walk from Fremantle station, come out and turn right. Then its sign posted across the railway line then turn left. Its a modern structure partially extended into the river with the submarine Ovens laying to one side (odd name for a warship). The building is just sized to accommodate the American Cup winner yacht Australia 2. The museum donates a lot of space to whaling and various survey vessels and equipment. I found the explanatury text on the light side, and the extra charge for the dome cinema inside a cheeky add on. The volunteer staff are great guys and I had a very informative chat. The in-house cafe is neat and tidy overlooking the main harbour.

Amazing number of ships contained in a relatively small area. Artifacts, info and interactive points too help put you into the shoes of the people in our maritime history. 3D Dome theatre movie was very jbteresting too. Short term changing exhibitions keep things fresh.Cafe was basic but tasty. Parking prices were a pain, but it is Fremantle, so expected.Covid requirements were well handled.

Truly superb museum. Accessible by public transport or $9 all day car parking. The curators here think carefully about their exhibits and they’re world class! I’ve been to the Vikings, Antartica, Sharks and most recently, Lego Brickmasters. Affordable entry and excellent kids activities during school holidays. The permanent exhibits are both interesting and interactive. The building itself is beautiful and the views are stunning. Take time to be outside too, the names of the migrants who passed through are all recorded - you may find your relatives!

Maritime history of Fremantle and Western Australia. Its not a big museum and it may take hour and half maybe to tour, but worth a visit if youre in Freo. Also the Submarine tour is a must. Really interesting to see the inside of an actual submarine (Torpedo, control, accommodation, engine, ...., Etc rooms).

A good experience on a Friday afternoon. Set on two levels. You wouldnt spend more than an hour and a half. There are a certain interactive areas as well. But every extra thing you want to do is an extra 15$. The submarine tour (you need to book a slot which is available every half hour and lasts for an hour and 15 mins-not advisable for people who dont like claustrophobic spaces), even the Lego shipwreck section 🤔 We did like it but loved the shipwreck museum so much more and the entry was free.

I really enjoyed my visit to the museum. It is more than just military vessels, covering pearling, sport and recreation, immigration and global circumnavigation. I was lucky enough to catch the movie Whale Superhighway at the ‘under the dome’ experience. It was great. Not only visually spectacular, you’ll also hear about how scientists use drones to capture whale snot samples for their research and other interesting facts.

Fantastic museum in Fremantle. So much history is preserved in a very well designed building. Staff are more than helpful with any questions you may have. The original America’s cup winning yacht is here also. The gift shop has unique and beautiful gifts. We were here when they also had an Ancien Rome Exhibition with gladiator uniforms and weapons. Well worth a visit. It won’t disappoint.

I really enjoyed the WA Maritime Museum, and would happily add it to a lost of Must do things for Perth/Fremantle.Its a very reasonable entry price and the range and layout of the exhibits is very well done. The building itself is also architecturally impressive and adds to the experience.*disclaimer - my visit was actually a while ago before Covid. The submarine tour may be closed due to Covid so check in advance*HMAS Ovens is an Oberon Class submarine of the Royal Australian Navy next to the WA Maritime Museum and you access it by booking a tour, which is an additional cost to the museum entry fee. The tour last about 90mins and Id advise you were comfortable, warm clothing and footwear. Its not suitable for people with less than minor mobility restrictions, or for large framed people, as youll be climbing up and down steep ladders and squeezing through narrow entry points and doorways.I really enjoyed the tour, as the guide was a former Navy serviceman and was extremely knowledgeable and ready with answers to any questions.

A lot of larger-than-life displays and hands on exhibits about the history of people and the sea. You could hop in the submarine that was actually used in Cold War era. There are interactive displays that keep kids entertained too. We enjoyed the special exhibition about a whale shark in Ningaloo Reef at a dome shaped theater.

Nice place to visit in freemantle. Easily accessible, can take free red cat bus to visit this museum. Ticket price is aud 15. There were 2 options; on to visit the submarine or this maritime museum, with the same price of ticket. Overall recommended if you have 1 day at freemantle, kids will love this place.

This maritime museum is definitely worth a visit. It has the Australian Yatch that won the Americas Cup. It has a replica of the Cup Australia won. It has many different boats to see and tells the history of each ones voyage to Fremantle. If you enjoy anything to do with ships and boats then you will enjoy your visit here. There is a nice gift shop and a cafe to enjoy a drink. I recommend you visit here. You will enjoy it. Then take a stroll outside to see the entrance to the Port of Fremantle where the ships come into dock. I hope you enjoy your visit here!

Huge Maritime museum with currently an extra exhibition running about sharks, the staff was extremely friendly, the only negative point is that there are some objects with little relevance that do not contribute much to a museum.

A must see when in Fremantle, the Oberon Submarine tour was excellent. Highly recommended for the young and old, though some access areas may be difficult if you have physical impairment due to the requirement to climb ladders. The tour guide was excellent being a previous naval serviceman and the facts and information was entertaining and insightful. Best of all, its only $15 for a tour!

A thoroughly interesting museum with varied exhibits on all things maritime. Exploration, adventure, fishing industry, sporting, naval defence and even underwater wildlife.Staff were very friendly and there was also someone from the navy who showed us some morse code. They also have a preserved megamouth shark in a tank, Id never heard of this deepwater shark before and it was fascinating to see it up close and learn a little about them.We stopped by the cafe and got a takeaway coffee on the way out and somehow resisted the delicious looking cakes. We visited today as it was a rainy day, unfortunately this meant that the submarine tours were not running. You must also visit the shipwreck museum just down the road while youre in the area!

Fantastic museum with an even more impressive location and architectural design which i believe was meant to represent a sail boat. My favourite part of the museum is taking the submarine tour. This dry docked submarine is massive and located right beside the museum and the tours are well worth taking. Kids love it, however, it isnt ideal for people how have challenges with heights or narrow spaces. But all in all its was a great afternoon spent.

The submarine tour is very educational and interesting. Details with the function of each parts inside the submarine and some history of submarine and navy. This tour is different than the entrance fee for the WA Maritime Mesuem. U can just going for the submarine tour without purchase the ticket to the Mesuem. Please make sure to make reservation at least a day before, limited slot available and each slot is limit to 10 persons.

Much better than expected and the kids find out more engaging than the national maritime museum in Greenwich, UK which reflects the thought and high standard of the exhibits. The horrible history pirates exhibition was not quite as good however that might be as we took the kids around the main museum first and the energy levels were dropping by this point. We will definately be going to the museum again.
