Замковый остров, 1, Vyborg, Leningrad Oblast, Russia, 188800, Lappeenranta
Medieval Swedish stronghold set on an island, with landmark rectangular tower & history exhibits.
Magnificent! Loved it
Good family day out ( if your Russian)
Some wings are still under construction till end of October 2021
Not like in Europe. Grey custle...
Most attractive place in the Vyborg
I have visited only St. Olavi tower. The view from the tower is wonderful. But the stairs are even grater. The 3 stars only for the stuff of the museum because : I wasnt informed about the certain hours for visiting the tower, therefore I had to wait for my turn. Second, the stuff doesnt wear masks neither they ask visitors use facemasks.
Make sure you check in the local Museum. It has a exceptional and unique spirit of pure hand made exhibitions.Of course, climbing up the tower is an absolute must, but be aware that theyll lock you in until the next excursion time is up
So ancient history is set here
Middle ages atmosphere. Wonderful view from the top of the tower.
Amazing castle. Due to CV limited entrance to the tower.
Beautiful place. Must see while staying in Vyborg. Museum are not very big but I like it. When buying ticked, take tower ticket too. Stunning view from the tower. All Vyborg in front of you :and you get a guide in a tower with interesting story. Recommended!
Still under the restavration, but every year they have smth new. Nice place to visit with children.
just great historical place, fairly in good condition under renovation though
Expensive prices for foreign tourists, but a cool piece of history
One of the few real medieval castles European type in Russia.
Feel lot of rebuilt object and the admission is too expensive
Most famous attraction point in Vyborg, still have this medieval spirit
Beautiful historically important castle dates to the Middle Ages. Located in the nice town of Vyborg.
Museum quite interesting, especially in the part before the year 1940. The exhibition is about the war in the years 1941 and 1943 is quite rich. Small souvenir stores are available. Only russian explanation is available. Air conditioner is not available, and it is very stuffy inside with fans.
Went with glazami ingenera group - allows access into all towers of the city. Impressive.
For years still under reconstruction. But some interesting tourist sites open.
Vyborg Castle is a Swedish-built medieval fortress around which the town of Vyborg (today in Russiaevolved. The first record of the castle dates back to 1293. Currently it serves as a museum. In the 16th century, much was renovated and additions were made. In the 17th century, the castle was allowed to decay, as Russian danger was lessened and the border was further eastwards.Viborg was taken by the Russians in 1710, but passed back to Finnish hands in 1812 when all of Old Finland was attached to the autonomous Grand Duchy of Finland. The castle owes its present appearance to extensive restorations undertaken in the 1890s. The military of the Russian Empire used the castle until 1918 for housing administration.Viipuri belonged to the newly independent Republic of Finland between 1917–40 and again 1941–44. As a result of border changes in World War II it was annexed by the Soviet Union in 1944.
Nice historic castle. Under renovation right now and crowdy on the weekends.
Museum is great, but it is all old expositions from, I think, Soviet times. Worth a visit though.
Wonderful place! Thank a lot for the dresses and costumes for our beautiful photos!)
Probably the landmark of Vyborg. Not that fascinating compared to Helsinki or St.Petersburg.
Its a bit hard to reach the museum in winter. The roads are slippery or covered with snow or both. But the photo collection is worth the effort.
Nice place to visit in Vyborg. No English speaking people for foreigners. But here people will try to make u comfortable
The museum itself was nice with old findings and Fnnish section was intetesting.Additionally, the most special thing for me was how nice behaving the wardrobe personel was for me .I give them huge thanks through this web page due to their actions with my mobile phone:I got lost my phone and could not find it, so I closed the connection. However, the wardrobe personel found it when I was already 1 kilometre away from the museum. The personel opened the phone and sent a whats up message about lost phone to my wife in Finland (whatup was already open becauce I was just used it with my wife). After that my wife called to my another phone and told that my lost phone had been found. Then I went back to museum and the personnel gave me my lost phone. Thank them very much!Thats Vyborg!
Its perfect museum
Fantastic museum with several very different exhibitions, amongst them one being about the civic history of the Finnish period of Wyborg and the ecological make up of the region. Small and sweet and I would highly recommend!
Worth enough to visit ! The museum tell us a lot about the history of Vyborg. Most of discriptions are written in Russian but unexpectedly there are some English, also!+At the end of October, some parts of the castle were under construction so I couldnt see the wholeTips: They offer a special discount for Russian student card holders! And Im not sure about international student ID card but at least we can try it :)
The main attraction is the fluffy orange cat that "works" there.
A great place to visit and learn about history, nature and customs of Vyborg. If you are lucky enough, you might attend a special event. They are held here regularly.
Not enough open places for visiting but in general very interesting
Not one museum but pack of small 2-3 roon museums
The tower was closed for reconstruction when I was there (June, 2018). You can walk around the premises for free but if you want to see the museum and other exhibitions, youll have to buy a ticket.
Here we had visited a library and got an interesting excursion about history of dogs in Vyborg. There are new exhibitions often in the library
Closed on New Year and under construction now 1/1/2018
Its a cool fortress thats really old and has impressively thick walls but the constructions been going on for a very long time and you cant visit most of the insides of the castle. Still worth seeing in my opinion.
Great historic castle. Must see on trip to Vyborg. Tower is under renovation (summer 2017and access to top is prohibited on that period
The birds eye view on the town. Can be pretty romantic =a tiny medieval torture museum can be found on the lower level. I think its employees play black metal there at nights. =)
Historical place, nice 3-floor museum, amazing panorama from castle
Good view to the city, great historical place, couple of small shops
Not much to see in the museum itself, but the knights hall lets you play with good quality replicas of armor, weapons and everything else medieval.Be sure to check the view from Olafs tower as well.
The place with atmosphere and history, nice view to the city!
Красиво, но очень неудобно подниматься на верх башни.Very exciting view from the tower, but very hard to get on the too of it.
Great view on the town. Free to visit castle court. Good temporary exhibitions.
Had a nice experience going to the museum and on top of the tower.
Nice place for visitors, go up the tower, good view.
