Congo - Kinshasa, Beni
Founded in 1925, Africa’s oldest national park & home to a quarter of the world's mountain gorillas.
very very beutiful and safe place for tourists, feeling is good during visit.
Its a place full of hills and big trees
I loved it, though its too thick if dont got the balls you cant traverse it .. besides there is political instability there, still rebels there and the DRC legislations abit treaky
Awesome
It was very fantastic there! Nature of Gikeri swamp
The real place for wildlife conservation. I enjoyed looking at birds of their first kind in nature..
Because of the Congolese war condition, this place is dangerous and cant be an advisable area for an adventure.....
Plus ancien Parc d’Afrique et le plus diversifié que notre agence Artemis Africa propose de vous faire découvrir sous toutes ses coutures !The Park guide will give you a short introduction before starting the forest hike. He will cover the history, geography and some facts about the Gorilla family you will be visiting. The guide will also provide you with advice on how to behave when with the gorillas while in the jungle.Following the briefing you begin your journey along narrow jungle paths to meet the gorillas. Masks are worn to prevent gorillas from catching human disease. The length of this hike depends on the location of the gorillas. Some days they can be a 20-40 minute walk from the road into the Forest, other days it can take over an hour of walking to reach the gorillas as they are always on the move in search of food. When you enter the territory of the gorillas you will be welcomed by the enormous male silverback, making sure you are not a threat. After he accepts your presence a magical time observing the gorillas will begin, which is truly a once in a lifetime experience and you will have 1 hour in the forest with the gorillas.Gorillas are the largest of the apes and probably the most impressive, they are peaceful and shy animals. They are also our closest cousins after chimpanzees and bonobos (endemic to the Democratic Republic of Congo). They play a crucial role in local biodiversity. By moving across large territories, they help, for example, to disseminate the seeds of the fruits they consume, and thus to the regeneration of forests.Today, gorillas are at risk from game hunting, habitat loss, animal trade and infectious diseases.
The true sense of nature. A very touching place.
Amazing experience, definitely worth it if you can get a residence rate.
The birthplace of the world, under a constant danger. We need to do better to protect the Virunga!
Amazing Park! Virunga park does extremely important work to fight for this unique park. The habitate is untouched and we should all support Virunga Park in keeping it that way for generations to come.
We recently visited both Tchegera Island and Kibumba Tented Lodge in Virunga National Park with the whole trip coordinated by the Virung National park team. The quality of service and hospitality was excellent. From being picked up at Kigali Airport to our return, every stage was well managed and an authentic experience that showcased what makes the DRC so unique. #virunganationalpark #thebestofcongo #glamping #gorillas
Did volcano 🌋 hike, definitely must do. A bit challenging to do but absolutely worth the efforts
World class. Once in a lifetime experience. Unique. Unforgettable. A bucket list moment.
Quite an exciting game reserve and scenery though abit insecure especially for the foreigners
It a place to visit.. Very nice jungle
Beautiful national park with a splendid diversity in wildlife and landscapes. Also very interesting endemic species, like mountain gorillas, okapis etc...
Travelled here with my family in August the place is amazing, but my advice to any travellers is learn a bit of French, read some gorilla books and also at least one on DRC to get more out of it. The advantage of Virunga over other gorilla viewing experiences is that you can be sure of very small groups. In our case it was just the 4 of us plus the rangers. The park is stunning, gorilla experience magical but equally worth a visit is the village next to the park, make sure you walk down to the village and bring some biscuits for the kids. We brought footballs and pens at advice of Virunga - but they dont have the money for paper....So biscuits, clothes etc. would have probably been better. While its easy to come here and think and see only gorillas, without helping the people who live next to the park the likely hood is there will be no park, these people need the land that that is home to the gorillas as much as the gorillas do.
One of the most amazing places I have been to.
If you are still wondering whether Virunga in the DRC is the best place to see the mountain gorillas - stop. It is THE place to first meet them. It is THE place where you can meet people who are risking their lifes everyday to make this world a better place, not only for the animals, but also for the local population. Virunga staff has the security under 100% control. Mikeno lodge is first class, Senkwekwe orphanage is now open for visitors again. I would definitely come back.
The place is nice, inspite of instability in congo 🇨🇩
Peaceful stretch of land with antelopes , baboons and colorful birds
A unique place on the planet
I visited Virunga DRC in August 2019, and it was a life-changing experience. First, Virunga DRCs Southern Sector features Mount Mikeno, Mount Nyurigongo, and Tchegera Island, all within miles from one another. Each of these destinations delivers experiences unlike any other Ive had in my life. Mount Mikeno (of Ernie Hudson, 1995 "Congo" famedelivers a safe but adventurous hike to visit some of the rarest, most compelling gorillas on the planet. For fans of the movie, no, there are not laser cannons and grey gorillas. Mount Nyurigongo is the hardest hike Ive completed in my life, but its absolutely worth it when you get to the top (see Google images). Tchegera Island is a serene island great for unwinding after your Mikeno and Nyurigongo experience. Our hosts, Benjamin and Alice, really made the experience special. Second, Virunga DRC felt completely safe the entire time that I was there. The Virunga rangers are legendary for their professionalism and commitment to protecting the park and its guests. When you drive with them in Goma, youll get a sense that they are very well respected and that nothing will happen as long as you travel with them. Third, Virunga does a fantastic job of making an adventure comfortable at the right times. They feed you very well, the tents are downright luxurious at times (we had warm water for our full stay), and they even drop heaters in your cot at Kibumba Lodge on cool nights. Thank you Virunga for everything. Id like to end with a special shout-out for our guide Tresure, you really made the experience one-of-a-kind.
Absolutely Stunning! The lodge with the tent camp is First Class. The food was 5 star!! Sat around the fireplace and watched the monkeys in the trees. We hiked and were so close to the Gorillas. Visited the family with 44 members and were able to see 25... once in a lifetime experience! Highly recommend.
Visiting the mountain gorillas is a once in a lifetime must do experience
What an overwhelming experience - Virunga is a piece of heaven on earth! This park is rich in natural resources, the people are so warm and friendly. I feel very attached and hopeful about returning soon. It exceeded all my expectations.
What an experience! We stayed at the Kibumba lodge and it was epic. A lodge with a great view at the Nyiragongo. Seeing the gorillas in their natural habitat is the most amazing thing Ive experienced so far. The hike in the forest can be challenging, but it is certainly worth it.
Its so cool place to have fun with your partner
Incredible and beautiful place! Despite all the travel warnings I felt very safe during my visit. The park definitely takes the security of visitors very seriously.
This is a beautiful park located in eastern DRC. For the information of travellers, the park isn’t open due to security concerns. There had been cases of kidnapping for foreign nationals previously in the park. Moreover , you will find only MONUSCO and rangers in the park . Though , wildlife in the park in amazing. We pray that government of DRC take measures to open this park soon for the wildlife lovers.ICCN(rangersfacilitate movement in the park. So one needs to create good contacts with rangers. There is another possibility if you are working UN because UN has military compound in Rwindi from where complète savannah if park is seen. The prominent animals which can be seen here are antelopes , baboons and some birds. If you are lucky you can also see elephants and some predators . For more information , you can directly message me .
amazing gorilla trekking, Im so close to those gorillas and be able to enjoy every move they have done
One of the most beautiful places on earth. The people, the landscape and the views will cling to you eyes and heart drawing you back time and again. The trek up Nyiragongo is tough but worth every grueling step. The gorillas plentiful, wild and heart stompingly close and real. And then there is the Kibumba Eco Lodge where the staff, accommodations, views and food will please even the most sophisticated adventurer. Don’t miss this place. Just don’t.
Absolutely amazing. The entire package organised by the park was seamless and safe. Loved loved loved
Animals are in a hide out.Mountain Golilas are manyThe place is distant
Thats a great stay at Virunga national park in DRC .blessed Naturally . Great weather conditions and sceneric views everywhere.
An experience of a life time not for the faint hearted need to be reasonably fit loved it cant stop thinking about this.
One of the best yours places to visit having one of the biggest river (semlik)
We went to visit the gorillas from the post in Bukima village. We went there with the official Virunga travel organization, who picked us up at our hotel in Goma. It was very well organized, safe and meeting the gorillas was very special! People also very friendly. Road from Goma to Bikuma is a very rough dirt road; quite the adventure...
One of the best days of my life. Really amazing. Had to walk through the woods and cut away plants to get up the hills. The ranger spotted the gorillas already. We were looking for the animals when the last person in the group felt a hand and a gorilla pushed her away. He walked passed us and I had to jump in the bushes to let him pass. The hour flew by and then with all the adrenaline I flew down the mountain. So amazing.
Difficult to get here, but the park is amazing. Definitely see the gorillas and the lava lake at Nyiragongo.
What a beautiful, well run, comfortable and diverse park. The staff was amazing and the facilities exceeded all expectations. A perfect and adventurous holiday.
Awesome place to see herds of antelope moving freely close to mankind. Also home to a variety of wild animals
Very nice place but very endangered by people.
The most amazing place I have ever been to. Meeting the gorillas is exiting. The conection to nature is strong. The people who host us where very nice.
I born in Burundi. For 23 years between Burundi.. Zaire... Rwanda... Uganda I live my life. Virunga is one from the beautiful place. Is in my hard. I love Africa stop the world.
They are heroes. Its good to know that they are still peoples to fight for a right cause and stand in front of carbage companies like SOCO.
A natural beauty against all odds. Very sad that greedy, morally corrupt and totally lost generations can seek to destroy one of the most beautiful parks i have ever seen.
My trip had it all: babies, a charging gorilla, wrestling youth, a mother fresh off a fight missing a thumb, and a huuuuge silverback jumping out of a tree not too far from us. With a professional guide/ranger (Jean), we felt safe and informed. The hike is no joke; I went with a friend that did a gorilla trek in Rwanda a few months back, and she said it was much more dense. There were a few steep (more than 45 degreeclimbs. Make sure you have trousers on, lots of water and a great camera.
